[Q] soft brick after 4.2 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I'm stuck at a boot loop.
History:
Installed the omega rom with the new 4.2 android.
but I forgotton to do a titanium backup.. no worries I had my nandroid.
I was trying to restore but CWM couldn't find my backup.. it said it couldn't open the directory.. soo I plugged the phone into my computer, transferred the whole backup tp the external sd.. Same thing.. CWM couldn't open the directory..
So I flashed my old Team HD 9.1 rom.. And now here I am ?? stuck at the samsung logo..
Any good advices? I flashed around a 50 roms, and all the same way..
I cant open recovery or download mode.. as soon as I insert the battery it starts right at the samsung logo
Thank you
P.s Please let me now if it's all nonsense, english isn't my major lagnguage

So you can't even reach recovery? I mean first you said you couldn't find backup in CWM and after that you can't enter download or recovery mode?
Anyways while you're stuck on boot screen try holding vol down + home + power buttons until it restarts and see if that's gonna work...

After not finding my backup, I flashed Team HD 9.1 (which is 4.1) everything here went fine at first sight.
But it didnt..
I cannot reach recovery or download mode, no matter what. cant find the phone in ADB or odin

succes!
Finally
I was almost feeding my phone to my cat..
After I tried Vol up + home 200 times, and vol down 200 times, I came into Download
I downloadet this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953&highlight=cwm+odin
Very nice recovery.
And it has 1 major option.. custom restore, and then restore from 4.2 patch.
I didn't know that 4.2 changes anything in the directorys.. but it must be that havenn't done my homework!
I'm up and running now!
thank you

By flashing via Odin with a stock rom, you'll loose CWM. You have to flash CWM again to get it back. But as you described it, you can't even get into Recovery mode (blue Samsung recovery screen with HOME+Power button combo)?
^^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If u can't get to recovery mod then flash a new firmware from sammobile via Odin
I had this problem also.
I reloaded a new stock rom from sam and loaded it with odin, after the install I turned the phone on with the power button + the home button and did a factory reset and wipe catch.
And that worked.
u need to hold the power button + home button till you get in the menu.
I came from cm7.1 and went to stock rom 2.3.5.
Hope get it. Otherwise post your steps from which rom you came.
when phone is off, hold power button and home button in the same time.
when the phone is showing samsung, you can release the power button, but keep hold the home button until recovery menu showed
I didn't get it. You are not able to boot into recovery? If so then you haven't flashed CMW properly. Try again and get into recovery by volume up + center button + power button.
Titanium Backup-can't start phone
So I thought I had a working version of S voice on my ported VK Rom. I tried to use it after not using it all for a couple of weeks and it just kept saying "Say Hi Galaxy" but wouldn't respond.
I was looking to uninstall the apk along with all the other 80 mb worth of stuff in the .zip file, I found that using Titanium Backup one could uninstall system apps. All I did was use Titanium Backup to remove S voice...NOTHING ELSE WAS TOUCHED. At which point it tried to reboot but only to the boot screen then it would time out. I can't even enter into recovery using voume up/down and power.
I don't think it is bricked cuz it still turns on and lights up just not past the boot screen (I'm running the newest Siyiah kernel but can't even get to that boot image.)
Only thing worth mentioning would be that I did change the boot screen image using an app I found within a .zip file for SGS3 but I rebooted three or four times before trying to uninstall s voice using titanium backup, which is where the problems started.
I did find other Android users with different phones who experienced similar problems and it seems the only solution, at least for their problems, was to re-install stock firmware.
You should still be able to boot into CWM. Pull the battery and hold vol up+down and press power. If it works just reflash your rom or nandroid restore. If you really can't get back into CWM recovery, can you get into download mode (vol down+power)? If so, use Odin to flash back. READ CAREFULLY if you have never used Odin before.
To be honest, it sounds like you inadvertently uninstalled the wrong app. Always be careful when using TiBu to uninstall system apps. Hope things work out.
did you try entering download mode and using Odin?
i'm having this same problem except i tried to uninstall the google play store with titanium backup and i let it reboot and like your phone it booted to the boot screen then powered off c.c i've tried booting it into recovery mode but the screen only boots to the boot screen once then turns off again, and i can't even get it to go into download mode because it literally does nothing x.x i've also tried pulling the battery while it was off and putting it back in but that also doesn't work so are there anymore solutions i can try?
Try pulling the battery. Hold Vol down + power then plug usb. You can insert the battery once it boots.
that didn't work but after i put the battery back in and tried to enter download mode it showed the battery charging icon thingy but it was frozen, then it powered off again x.x i don't think usb debugging was on before my phone messed up so that also may have caused problems c.c
USB debugging has no bearing in download or recovery modes
HELP - Xperia S stuck in boot logo
My Xperia S is just a week old with locked bootloader.
I rooted it and backed it up thru CWM.
I applied a sound mod thru CWM which i did not like so tried to flash back my backup.
Before flashing i wiped everything possible, cache, data, system, dalvik cache, battey stats.
When i tried to flash my backup the recovery says there is ' MD5 Mismatch '
So now my Xperia S is stuck at boot logo, does not go into recovery, does not go into flash mode so i'm not able to flash thru flashtool or seus.
I tried holding Power and Vol Up button , but it only restarts the mobile and again stuck at boot logo.
Pls help i'm losing hopes.
Thanks in advance.
Have you tried turning the phone off, hold vol up and connecting USB and see if you can get it into fastboot mode?
Sent from my Xperia S using Tapatalk 2
ok dont panic, hold POWER + VOLUME UP and when it vibrates release the buttons. Boot the phone. If its still stuck than hold POWER + VOLUME UP for 20 seconds and repair the phone with seus since its with locked bootloader. If that doesnt work, download firmware around this forum and flash the phone
Anyways, Got my Xperia S back . The service center people just had to charge for a day and flash the back the stock rom . I still dont get it how did they get the device into flash mode.
Another thing i learnt is that from sept 16 all sony ericsson service centers will be shut down and the customers have to go to sony showrooms for repairs or replacements here in india.
Thanks Everyone , topic closed for me.
Bad Recovery
I'm thinking I completely ****ed up my phone, but someone please prove me wrong.
I flashed the ROM but it got stuck on the bootloading screen. So I rebooted into CWM and did a SYSTEM restore.
Problem is, I restored the system to when it did not have CWM flashed yet.
So now, it boots into the custom bootloading image and stays there. When I hold power+volume to reboot into CWM, it loads the original bootloading image (as expected) and gets stuck there because (I'm guessing?) I did not do a full restore.
If you have locked bootloader, repair it via SUS or PC Companion. If you an unlocked bootloader flash the rom (ftf) via flashtool.
Charge your phone. You have to press and hold the volume up and power button simultaneously until the phone vibrates 3 times and turns off completely. Then try to connect the phone in flashmode.
[Q] S3 not booting and not going to recovery after flashing stock rom
Hello Everyone,
I had Jelly bombed rom v 7.0 (samsung gs3 sprint). I didn't wipe out data/ factory reset , so after flashing stock rom (factory one and then updated ones). Now it stuck on samsung logo flashing a in the background. So it seems like it trying find files or something. But not booting and turning on. I tried to put in recovery mode by vol up+home+power, but it don't work. I downloaded the jelly bombed from internet but it's a zip file so can't flash it with Odin. Help me Please!!!!
Thanks,
Dev
If you have a Sprint you are in the wrong forum
If you use odin, just run the stock rom over. I presume vol down and power takes you to download mode?
Yes, Thanks for replying. But It's now working. I was keep holding vol down + home + power util about 10 seconds but it never took me to the recovery. But the actual method is hold vol down + home + power and after 2-3 seconds leave the power button n keep holding other two. So I finally got to the recovery mode, deleted caches and wiped all data. After this restarted but the same problem. Finally re flashing solved the problem and it's working now!!
