Hey dude,
Jump on to the Xposed modules site and download the one called AppSettings_0.4.apk located here
Set this in Xposed to make it function. Open the app. Then go back to Xposed Privacy if you have it and enable this settings app to have full control. Then go back to the AppSettings apk and this should then allow you to search and should display all of your apks. This is your permissions controlller app now (not necessarily security like Xprivacy but more so the gateway for your Xposed framework. Think of it like a new toll road that has just been opened, it will allow a better route for traffic to flow to its destination, but there at the moment the toll booth is un-manned and the gates are shut so no one can use the toll road until you put a man in the booth to control the boomgates
Find Jkay app and check allow for all of its functions and bam everything working 100%
Really once you get used to this, this framework can allow for Jkay + more. Jkay should be porting his app to Xposed modules rather than trying to update every freakin framework release there is, especially considering that most of the functionality doesn't change between releases all that much. With Xposed he should publish for the top level of functionality and people who don't have a framework that is equiped with that functionality just won't get it, none of their apps will force close, nothing will screw up if they flash the incorrect version etc.
But....thinking about it, my feeling is that Jkay is more about the money than anything? If he was to do this he wouldn't make any money off people buying his app so I guess that will never work for him.

thanks anyway , i have ready solve this problem :good:

No problems man. I usually come back and answer my own questions on the forum so that when others search that they can know answers too. So I will leave my post up.
It wasn't just me was it? The information required to solve the problem WAS NOT easily located in the sea of information within the framework thread?

[Q] There are Apps in the background

Dear Friends!
Glad to be here today (after 2 days! )
My dear Streaker is here!!
As the norm is, I have been busy tinkering with the stock material for couple o days, and I will continue to do so for some more time!
___________________________________________________________
Query: There are too many apps running (background) all the time!! I kill them, they resurrect!, How to do away with that?
Solution applied: Used Advanced task killer (but, apps resurrect!)
Another Solution tried: In Settings>Account & Sync settings> Unchecked Background data and Auto sync options. (Now, they dont connect to the net, but, they still restart!!)
Another Solution: Force close (from Manage apps) .. (Still same issue!)
Now, How can I tell the apps to come up only when I call them!?
(And some other apps I want to schedule them to come up every hour or so.. like my Gmail/FB)
____________________________________________________________
And, So far has been amazing experience!!
The screen is football field sized!! (Monster! yikes Scooby!)
Digging up all old posts to read some problems faced by new users..
Current hobby: Market and apps.
Future hobby: Roms and Flash!
Thank you all for your help!
care,
Sony.
Welcome to the cool kids club! I'm in a somewhat similar situation, I got my streak just before the massive snowstorm hit. Some of those apps need to be running... if you close some of them you may not get updates/notifications, or you can shut down your phone/data connection, or lose the use of multitouch.

from what i understand, froyo is really good with resource management and there is no need to constantly kill processes or apps, its best to just leave them unless your streak is slow like a snail

How?
@rptw
So, It wouldnt really matter if there are apps running in the BG, and they start by themselves too!?
care,
Sony.
well in terms of the laws of nature (in most cases) stuff doesnt happen spontaneously so i think its safe to assume that your app that "started by themselves" were probably opened somehow either by you directly or indirectly by something else. if, however, you have a large number of apps that have started that you dont recall opening, maybe something is wrong with your software and you shouldnt try to cover the problem with a task killer.
So, what next!?

So, Now, can you or other guys here please suggest how to go to the "root" of this problem!?
Ok.
Look, these apps are open right now!
Voice Search
Email
Messaging
Maps
Astro
Assistant free
I use the Adv Task Killer free.
(It says 7 apps killed and 180 MB free)
I open Adv task killer after 5 seconds.
and these apps are running!
Email
astro
Voice Search
Assistant Free
and I am sure, If I wait for some more time, the other apps will join in too!
(Now it says, 3 Apps killed, 171 MB free!!)
care,
Sony.
have you tried using the stock app manager and killing the apps there? i just checked my phone and i have the same apps under the running tab using the stock manager, i think email and messaging are always running since you have push features on them, in terms of the others im not sure. whats so bad about email and messaging running anyways? im sure you use them often enough to not want to have to open and close them right?
Hey, you posted the same question over at Pocketables forum.
As stated earlier, 2.2 is really good at managing back ground tasks.
I can tell you if you use a task killer and you have a problem with an APP, which currently you do not, the programmer for the app probably will not help you till you remove the APP killer program.
What you might try to do is run though your menus and see what you have selected to run, such as locations and sync services and disable what you can. Also if you do not want some thing running, you may want to just uninstall it. I do understand that you want some programs but you only want them to run when you ask, not sure how to tell you to handle that.
But, are you seeing any difference when you have the background tasks disabled. Try to find the APK for the programs and rename them just to see if you have any issues.

a new challenge for our Streak

I found wandering around on google this video where you see the full application transparency. As you can see, you see the "desktop" of the phone with a lot of screen savers. for those who want to accept this challenge
(chrisrotolo looks a little !!!! even if this is done with an animated background )
I really dont like this look. and Imagine how any apps you have... some may be just a .png, but most Im guessing will have to be .xml edits ( first you have to find them) and then rebuilt. Wont be done by me, I can help you and give you some tips.
What Im more interested in is having a custom icon, to open the app, we know you can do it with custom launcher, by choosing another picture, but not in app drawer, thats where they have to be done manually. Not all that tough really.
I can do a settings.apk when I have time.
What Chris is getting at is that the transparency has to be done on an app by app basis. I have a lot of this working on #mystreak already. I'll look for links later. Gmail, email, phone, market, Google voice, twitter, Facebook, themed transparent.
Keep in mind that modifying non system apps (ie stuff downloaded and not in /system/apps) usually means you have to resign the app, and resigning the app means that you cant automatically update as it will complain about signature mismatches.
For system apps this doesnt matter at all since they cant be normally updated.
For apps that dont update often this might be acceptable
for apps that update often this might be a huge hassle to keep updated, at least as pre-modified apks

You basically get stuck with whatever app version you themed transparent. The important thing to take away though is that these transparent or inverted apps are almost never rom or streak specific. So if you just browse XDA android apps and themes section, you can find that someone has already done the hard work.

Prevent Data Access for an App

This seems simple enough and I though a quick search would set me straight, but I can't seem to find the answer to this.
Is there a way to prevent data access for individual apps? (both WiFi and 3/4G)
Essentially, I'm trying to block internet access for certain apps while the rest on the device is connected.
I'm running CM10.2 on a GS3.
Thanks in advance.

You'll need to install the Xposed framework from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=24267797
After you have it installed, reboot so that the framework applies.
Then grab Xprivacy from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320783
Install Xprivacy then go back to the framework, it is installed as an app, select modules, enable Xprivacy, reboot the phone.
After your phone is done rebooting, open Xprivacy from the app drawer, it may ask for root, allow it, Find your app, Disable it's data connectivity, Annnnnnd profit? Cheers!

I was really hoping there'd be a setting somewhere I'm just not aware of. Didn't wanna have to mess with frameworks and such
Thanks for the help.
Just grab a firewall app. This way you can prevent what ever app you want from getting access. Xposed can cause issues depending on your set up.

[MOD][XPOSED] Prevent Running

I have a forked update, Brevent, which doesn't require Xposed, nor root, nor unlock bootloader.
You can find it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/introduce-brevent-black-prevent-root-t3559151
Prevent Running was transfered to "Shanghai Falcon Network Co., Ltd." since 2.3.3.
This module was written for my GF, and accept donations.
Address: http://repo.xposed.info/module/me.piebridge.forcestopgb
How prevent running works?
After go deep in the android source, i find it uses flag when sending broadcast, so I hijack the IntentFilter's match.
And for other action, like force stop, launch activity, exit activity, I hijack them too.
So if any package is force stopped, it won't accept any intent filter...
However, i let input method, app widget, and laucher go.
- app widget, otherwise reboot is needed to show a widget in the widget chooser.
- configuration changed, otherwise cannot change lanugage
- account, otherwise sync and account won;t work
When the activity is launched, it can receive broadcast again..
When the activity exits by back key, it won't receive intent again, this function is added to android's feature.
So if you want to keep it running, please use home key instead.
And all the feature works for system package too, but the system package must have launcher.
Otherwise, if you still force stop it, it will cause FC (I suggest you use pm disable to do so).

so by activing this module, after i click Force stop, in GB, will be the same like Hibernating with greenify ?

For GB user, there is no greenify, and there is no change to back-port.
1). greenify depends system's launch control (http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-3.1.html#launchcontrols), which introduces in 3.1
2). greenify is not opensource, also the author and i live in the same country, even in the same city, however, he doesn't open source it.

Can somebody review this app? Is there any shortfall of this app in comparison with Greenify (as user, don't understand technicality )
I tried this yesterday on google play services app and it worked fine. I can't see it in running services, so i can say (but not sure for other apps) its working :good: Hatsoff @liudongmiao your GF must be very proud of u if she's a geek :silly: One question: If we stop for example hangouts app, will we receive messages as usual??

It shouldn't receive any broadcast, and never running, so you coun't recive messages.
Can you add a UI when you can choose apps to hibernate (like Greenify) and force stop them one by one?
BTW, this mod is superb...

No, nothing is wrong.
When you use back key to exit the application, the application won't receive any broadcast, however, the application will be cached, so the next time you open it, it will be opened very quickly. But before you open it again, it won't receive any broadcast.
However, if you want to the process be stopped, you can force stop it.

I observed this behaviour only with play services. For other apps, its working fine. So basically there's no much diffrnce between freezing and this except for application caching right? If we stop mms, do we still receive sms? A UI would be useful to look which apps are stopped and which are not. Great work man :good: BTW xposed for gb isn't updated yet. Any reason?

I don't know what's freeze, it doesn't seem to be a android's function.
As i said in the description, it doesn't force stop any application, but prevent sending broadcast to force stopped application.
For caching, it's a feature added to android's design.
For android's native design, when you start the application, it will be removed from the stop list until you force stop again.
But for me, i think its too complex to stop it, so i catch the finish, and if it's exited by finish, it will be added to the stop list.
// but it's in the cache processing list. so if you want to force stop it. this little design is useful for me to open a application temporary.
So if you stop the mms, i don't know whether you will receive or not.
The mms should be the core services of the android, i don't think you can force stop the services...
And i didn't forbidden the open the activity from the service, otherwise, it will cause FC of the application.
As i'm very busy, and an UI will take me some time. So there is no ui currently.
However, for the list, you can open the /data/data/me.piebridge.forcestopgb/conf/forcestop.list
For the xposed and other back-ported's module, it's not updated just because i'm too busy, and sometime too lazy .
You can read the description here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/me.piebridge.forcestopgb
And if you want to know more about the tech, you can read google's documetation: http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-3.1.html#launchcontrols

when i prevent Viber from running, when i start Viber, it starts but when you tao on some conversation it gives me force close. is this know bug?
Can we remove this setting simply by editing in config list (changing to false)?
Edit: I changed gms app to false and then opened the app to check which worked fine (i can see many running process in ram) and then i checked the list and it showed only that app in list. Is it alright?

true or false has special meaning.
true indicates this app is in the stopped list, and no broadcast would be send to the application.
false indicates this app has been marked in the stopped list, and when use back-key to exit, it would be in the stopped list.
I will write a simple ui, after the back-porting of xposed installer (completed), xprivacy (completed), and app settings (in to do).
im following this thread closely, and i want to test somethings, but before i do so,i have some questions.
the most important one its regarding about using this module along with greenify, what settings do i have to set in order to achieve the best of both apps, and then have a better experience.
Thanks.

As I have no ics+ devices, so i cannot say much things.
And if you want to try, you can wait for some days, I would write a simple configuation ui this weekend.
In short, if greenify works on your device, then just use greenify. But if you find greenify doesn't work at all, then try this one.
From design, greenify depends on http://developer.android.com/about/versions/android-3.1.html#launchcontrols introduces in android 3.1, this app hacks some api to emulate the launch controls. This works on gingerbread devices, and the devices that launch controls don't work at all.

I've rooted my Kindle! Now what?

Hey everyone!
With the help of the excellent guides on this forum, I was able to root my Fire HD 6 and install GAPPs. However, I'm relatively new to the Amazon ecosystem, and rooting in general, and I was wondering if I could get some help on a few tasks that would make my experience way better.
First, I need to be able to allow notification access to a few apps I use, but since I'm still using the restricted Amazon settings menu, I can't see how to do it. How do I access the vanilla Android settings menu?
Second, I would love to use a lockscreen like Echo, but when I swipe in, it just shows the Amazon Special Offers lockscreen. How do I disable the Amazon one?

LOL. Welcome to our world, where all roads lead to Amazon settings. Seriously, there's no such thing as a vanilla Android settings menu. I haven't tested latest OS, but on last version Push notifications tended not to work or to be very late--Hangouts didn't work at all. Other kinds of notifications (from Gmail, xda a few others) were pretty good. I'm doubtful anything's changed with this release, but you can try one of the Xposed modules that offer per-app notification settings. Might be something at the Play Store.

You can disable the ads and get Amazon's stock lockscreen wallpaper. See here. I've tried a few lockscreen apps and Xposed modules, but they either didn't work or made the lockscreen look wrong or behave badly. Maybe you can get something to work after disabling ads.
