[Q] How to avoid 4G / 3G connection? - AT&T LG Optimus G

Since i got my OG, i always have used 3G / 4G connection
but sometimes i want save some battery and use EDGE or GPRS connection as many people here in Brazil does, but i dunno how!
how to do that?
thanks!

-settings
--wireless and networks
---mobile network
----network mode
-----GSM only

that's it
didn't have this "Network mode" in my phone...
some alternative way to do that?

*#*#4636#*#* in dialer, phone info, set to GSM Only.
Sent from my LG-E970

To get the network mode menu you can edit build.prop if you're rooted.
A tool like "Android Tuner Free" makes it easy to backup your build.prop and change it, if you don't already have a favored method.
The entry to change is "ro.radio.networkmode" and it is probably set to "disable". Set it to "enable", reboot your phone, and you will have the network mode menu available. But, I'm pretty sure changes made in this menu revert upon rebooting (maybe that is what the next setting in there, "ro.radio.topreviousmode" is for - I didn't touch it).

Force 1X without going to EPST and reset?

As a battery saving technique I have been in the habit of forcing the radio to radio 1X only (no EV-DO) whenever I know I don't need heavy data usage. This method still allows my exchange server to sync by push, but internet browsing is way slow. So if I am going to need browsing, I switch back to EV-DO.
But to to this, as far as I know, requires going into EPST and changing the Modem Setting Preferred Mode to "CDMA Only".
Unfortunately this method requires a soft reset to make it work which is fine if you don't need EV-DO speed downloads for a few hours/days. But if you want to switch between 1X and EV-DO quickly its not a workable solution.
Does anyone know a method of changing from "1X only" to "EV-DO" and back without going into EPST and without a soft reset?

do you have a 'mode of operation' page under phone settings?
if not, it will show for all carriers on next release...
i can look up the reg to unhide the setting for you when i get home.
Thanks dcd. I was a bit worried about that "Mode of Operation" setting because my phone doesn't have it available. A search through the forums mentioned that setting but because my phone didn't have it I assumed that the titan/WM6.1 didn't support it.
Now that I know it is a reg hack to make it viewable I will have a look in the registry. If I can't find where to change the setting myself I will await your answer.
just search your registry for HiddenModeOperationPage
OK found it.
If anyone else is interested in using "1X only" to save battery power AND the "Mode of Operation" item is missing from Start-->Settings-->Phone-->Services tab then you need to edit the registry using PHM Registry Editor (or similar).
Go to HKLM>Software>OEM>PhoneSetting and then change the the Reg_Dword called HiddenModeOperationPage from value 1 to value 0.
Then you will have the ability to switch between 1X, EV-DO and Hybrid in the phone settings page. There is a warning in the registry that says that if you select EV-DO you will lose the ability to make voice calls (presumably because EV-DO only supports data not voice and data like 1X). Therefore I would assume the options you should choose are really between 1X and Hybrid.
Thanks dcd for the help. Hope it assists anyone else looking to save battery power.

[Q] Changing preferred network operators?

I was wondering if there is a way to permanently select a operator?
My network operator (Play) allows free roaming on other carriers inside the country (Orange, Plus, T-Mobile)
I get horrible signal in my work and at home with my "home" carrier and I always roam on one of the others. But I have to manually select that network and every so often I get a "refreshing SIM" message and it switches back to my home carrier (Play) which then gives me 0 bars. I then have to go into settings and select a roaming partner all over again (and this happens at least 2x/day)
Is there a way (either by editing a file/deleting a file or some app) that I can force my phone to only and always roam and not connect to my home network?
pssss.... there is top secret solution... when you will be in the roaming range, go to mysterious hidden menu, called: Settings.
Then, in the section called Network, go to the Mobile networks sub section.
When you'll be there, you possibly would find the most hidden secret feature: Network operators selection mode.
when you will enter this one, you can choose between manual and automatic operator selection.
Please do not populate this advice, is for highly advanced users only, and because of that it is hidden so deeply... in the secret document called: Owner Manual.
haha funny. But if you read my post you'll see I do manually select the network, but it still kicks it over to the home network every day.
if you unticked auto mode, it should not switch back...

I did but it clicks back when there is some "refreshing sim data"
I looked more about the operator and it seems others have this issue with their android phones. It seems the operator forces a network update (I guess to cut down on their fees they pay to the other providers)
So my option would be somehow removing the home operator from the list of operators that the phone can connect to (if there is such a list) or some app that forces to only go on certain networks that I pre select. Nothing is set in the network providers as auto, everything is on manual.
Or of course change providers (but I'll have to see what the canx policy is)

A fix for network issues

Hi guys,
I was having a lot of issues with my Verizon Note 2 for a while. No matter which ROM I flashed, the best connection was a less than decent 3G connection. After a lot of fooling around and looking for a fix though, I finally figured it out and now I want to share in case other people are having the same problem.
If you already checked to see that your SIM card works in another 4g phone and vice versa and that didn't tell you anything, try this:
-Go to your dialer
-press *#*#4636#*#*
-in the menu that it brings up, select phone information
-change the preferred network type to the one that applies to you (for me, it is LTE/CDMA auto (PRL) )
-make sure all the options under that network type selector are enabled (it will say turn off radio, turn off IMS, etc on the button)
-toggle the DNS check so it says "allowed"
After you did all this, you should have no connection at all. No bars. Nothing. Reboot your phone at this point and you should have your 4G!!

[Q] Setting network selection to manual as default

Hi,
I am wondering if there is a possibility (some tweak/registry change) to set the option (found at Settings-All-Personal-Phone-Network) Network selection to Manual instead of Automatic. Every time I restart the device, the option is set to Automatic. This causes a problem due I live near the boarder and every time I loose domestic signal, the phone connects into the roaming which I did not want.
Thanks in advance.
Would of thought that would be tricky as radio takes time to initialize on boot plus the manual option require manual selection of operator !
Can you not control this by 'Set Networks' settings for networks chosen & unticking ones don't want connect to, I had similar issue with a roaming sim I wanted on specific network & it worked for me.
Thank you for answering, but
1. I can not find a option "Set networks" in (in Settings-Phone-Network) which can be unticked,
2. I need sometimes (by going abroad) also this operator, so I do not want to cut him off complete.
I thought there must be a tweak possibility to start the device with manual network selection. A lot of phones remember the last choice Automatic/Manual after restart...
well it in phone settings > network & right by side of the drop down to select auto or manual network selection 'Set Networks' .
Don't think you will get it to work as smoothly as you would like but worth having a play with this setting if you find it, any network operators unchecked can be rechecked when needed.
You could also try another radio version such as one in my signature ...

Cannot force 4g only option.

After getting into engineering mode by dialing *#*#4636#*#* And changing the preferred network to LTE only. It stays in 4g for a minute and changes itself back to 3g. Is there any way to force the LTE mode.
I guess it must be one of the ****ty work done by Oppo in the name of enhancing network experience.
There is a solution for you
1.Atfirst clear all your recent apps
2.Open the settings and mobile networks then tap on prefer network type.tapping on that it will show you the network types.keep that page and tap the home button
3.go to dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* and select lte only..
Some conditions works here... engineering mode doesn't work if the settings app not running in background....after selecting the lte only in engineering mode then go to settings in that page of network mode, you can see all the three options will be unselected..It is not so easy as you think...many t&c applied here
Its works like charm
I wanna tell you one thing.
Man you are a fcking legend.
Just got my Realme 5 pro and *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work even if the settings is running in the background. I just want to lock it on lte or lock the frequency band to lowest frequency available here in the Philippines so I can play without lag even inside our house (more like a cave). I was able to do it on my previous phones so I'm kinda starting to get disappointed with this phone.
