OTA Update re-enable? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've rooted my s3 some time ago and it's still running 4.1.2. update was coming out and there was no root available so i deleted fota.client.apk and fwupgrade to disable OTA notifications since Telus was pushing the update.
I want to upgrade to 4.2 now but files are no longer present. Would i simply go with factory reset and then push the update or there's another simpler way?
Thanks in advance.

4.2 is yet to release /
If you deleted the files from the phone factory reset and remove root for OTA .
Or use KIES when update is released .
Or XDA stock post when released .
jje

My bad, i'm running 4.0.4 on I747M and trying to get 4.1.2.
So if i restore to factory it won't restore the OTA updates?

I want to flash stock rom and do a OTA update

Hi guys...
I had a rooted phone (with CF root) and I followed this guide: http://www.totallydubbed.net/2012/06/20/how-un-root-flash-stock-rom-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9300/
Now I have a unrooted phone with stock firmware. I'd really like to do a OTA update on the phone, but for some reason, it tells me that there's no available updates.
I have build IMM76D.I9300XXALE8, which is from may, so there should be some updates in the cloud.
I have wiped and cleared from CWM and did a factory reset, but no update...
What am I doing wrong?
Regards,
Hjalte

A guess is that there is no update for YOUR phone if their is an update OTA tells you .
Use CHECKFUS to download any update and flash via Odin .

Well...
I've recieved at least 3 updates since may month... So I guess they would come again... And, here on the forum, there's also a I9300XXBLH1_I9300NEEBLH1_NEE firmware available, from juli 31.
Doesn't that mean that there's available updates OTA?

First step you will have to take is to flash the LH1 firmware using Odin if you are not already on it..
Here is the link
Then, put the update file on you sdcard, use vol up+power+home to boot into stock recovery and then install from sdcard the update file which you had moved..
You are done, by the way always backup before you start flashing anything..

If you use just Odin..your warranty will not be void..also if you are on stock and not rooted you will get the OTA but then you must be on the ICS firmware to get the OTA..once you have flashed this update you will have JB and them you might not get the official update..
By the way you are on XDA - DEVELOPERS forum, have you realized it??

Well this is i think XDA Developers forum .
Possibly you mistake it for another forum ???
We don't do official updates that's not why the forum exists .
Hope you realize OTA updates arrive anytime after release not on the day of release . You may wait weeks .
Two choices One stick with Samsung and the updates .
Join XDA Developers forum and flash what you want when you want .
We will have official update one hour after release .

[Q] T-Mobile (EE) S3

I am sorry if this question has already been asked....
I have a UK T-mobile S3 - currently on Stock ICS (not rooted) and want to install Jelly Bean firmware on my phone as t-mobile will take another year before they release their version.
Can anyone tell me which 4.1 firmware i can load on my phone which will be safe without having to root etc? if you can direct me to the right place plz..
Will i still get OTA updates from t-mob or will i have to revert back to ICS to get the update...?
Many thanks
Any firmware can be used and you lose OTA and Kies updates .
Use UK JB makes most sense .

[Q] Kies doesn't recognise curent firmware version.

Hi to all.
I seem to have a problem with samsung kies. I have a GT-I9100 international with android 4.0.4 and i read that an update to jelly bean might be available. Connected my phone via usb and it connected with all the features working accept the showing of the firmware option and option to check for updates. Note that i have already updated the phone using kies once. Can anyone help me with my problem here.
Thanks

I think we've been thru this already, but well:
JB update is not rolling yet.
I think I get your problem, but I just don't get your question.
Tried update/reinstall kies?

I updated/reinstalled it but still doesn't work. In fact this happened to me when i was on android 2.3.6 but somehow it went off by itself.
I get many of those problems with kies.
Thanks for the reply

np.
Now, you gotta clean your device's drivers from your pc. All you need is a clean uninstall right from the root and all should be fine.
Re-Download Kies from the samsung's site and let it update, reboot your pc and plug your device.
Might also wanna check another usb's socket/cable.
Hi,
I check here for the official updates for Samsung, and when I check it here, it still says there no official update yet released for SII.
Samsung has released Jelly Bean update for SIII only.

Hereticnine.

hey buddy if you read everything thn you missed this
Note that, This firmware is on test-mode and being tested by Samsung, its build number is I9100XXLSJ, but is seemingly stable and not far from the final version that Samsung will be rolling out soon
