The point of this thread is to put together a list of optimizations that can be done on the stock rom with root access. I figured there would be others like me who can't unlock (or don't want to) but now can root who might be interested and all contributions will be added.
At the end of this the Prime feels much faster. I think most of it can work for the TF300 and TF700 too. Thanks to so many out there who make this possible and I appreciate all feedback in comments.
NOTE: This involves rooting your device and doing dangerousish stuff. I am not responsible if your Prime softbricks or if you have trouble installing updates. If you mess up and it softbricks you might lose all your data on the Prime. My official answer to updates is that every step has backups or checkboxes, so just undo everything after the pre-amble before you update.
If a tweak is done wrong and you can't boot, unbrick via these directions (data will be lost!):
Download latest firmware from Asus site.
Unzip this file once - it contains a zip inside it. Rename this zip to EP201_SDUPDATE.ZIP
Copy the file to the root of a FAT32 formatted MicroSD card
Turn the tablet off via the power button.
Now turn it on holding down the Volume Down button on the tablet
In a minute you will be in the recovery screen. Hit volume up.
Wait for it to get done. It can take a while.
Pre-Amble:
First thing, update to the newest Jellybean Asus has given us and root it using this method (thanks Morlok8k and djrbliss and sorry again Morlok8k).
Install Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper and protect that root:

Now lets optimize:
1. Get Rid of Bloat (Undo this step before installing updates)
Use Titanium or the built in disable function under settings to freeze some of the apps. This gets back a lot of your RAM and cuts down on the boot time. Here is what I have disabled/frozen (don't disable something you use), but note some can only be disabled with Titanium:

2. Install an Ad blocker.
My choice is Adaway:

3. Disable FSYNC
(HUGE PERFORMANCE BOOST BUT SOFTBRICK RISK IF YOU DO IT WRONG)
First of all, before we get started know that disabling FSYNC has some risks. But its the single biggest tweak you can do. Will let you update or install apps and still do something else.
Secondly, please go here and thank eminent1410 for inadvertently fixing our Primes. He did it for his OPTIMUS Z ROM but we benefit!

Steps to install:
Download the zip file named FSYNCFIX.zip attached to this post and extract the files in that zip to your Prime.
Open Root Explorer and go to /system/lib folder. Rename libsqlite.so and libsqlite_jni.so to libsqlite.so.bak and libsqlite_jni.so.bak respectively.
Copy the libsqlite.so and libsqlite_jni.so files that came from the attached zip (using root explorer for example) to the /system/lib folder (Mount that folder as RW if necessary).
Set permissions on the two files to rw-r--r-- (picture of what it looks like attached to post)
Reboot.
If something went wrong your prime will not boot but will be stuck at the booting screen. At that point use the directions at the top of the post.

4. Fix Entropy
This is a big deal to fix lagginess. Confirmed by richardmlea to improve the browser. Also helps with apps that have lists in my experience.
You can get Seeder from the Play Store and support the developer (or search and find the thread on XDA):

Run the app, turn on everything and tell it to start at boot.
5. Replace build.prop (Undo this step before installing updates)
(softbrick risk and might cause problems with upgrading if not undone)
Credit to MR.WOOKIE for the base I used to make the build.prop. It improves all sorts of stuff in little ways- network improvements, UI improvements, JPEG viewing improvements.
To install:
Download the attached correct (US or WW depending on what Prime you have) build.prop.zip files from this post and extract it to your Transformer.
NOTE: Currently the attached build.props are only for the TF201. Will brick other Transformers.
Using Root Explorer or something, go to your /system folder and find build.prop and rename it to build.prop.bak
Then copy the build.prop file from the zip to the /system folder and change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (picture of what it looks like attached to post).
Reboot
6. Install the Pimp My Rom app (Undo this step before installing updates)
NOTE: This step must be done AFTER step 5 if you are going to do step 5. If you don't do step 5 the using Root Explorer or something, go to your /system folder and find build.prop and rename it to build.prop.bak before using Pimp My Rom.

Under Tools:
First I activated "Universal Init.d Support". Then confirm it works
Entropy generator is much like Seeder, but not as good.
Under Tweaks:
Under "Network and Internet" I enabled "Wifi Connect Speed Tweak" and "Faster Media Streaming" at the top part. Under Init.d ans Sysctl Tweaks I enabled "avoid Time-Wait," "Block Redirects," Block Source-Routing," and "IPv4 Tweaks." Now the play store doesn't act up any more saying it can't load.
Under "Android Features" I enabled "Hardware acceleration," Force CPU rendering,"
Under "Miscellaneous Tweaks" I enabled "Optimize sqlite Databases," "Ext4 File-Systems tweaks," Internal SD-Card I/O Tweaks," External SD-Card I/O Tweaks," and "Zipalign all APKS at each boot." These changes make a huge difference in the performance of almost everything.
7. OOM and SD cache
This will help responsiveness and RAM management. As per nhshah7
Download Kernel tuner:
Go to OOM and set it to 1000 aggressive.
Go to Misc and set the SD cache to 4096
8. Wipe the Dalvik Cache
Thanks to pooblej for this one.

Select the "Wipe Dalvik-Cache" option.
It will then reboot with a pretty long boot time.
9. Trim
Do this last.

Personally I think this eats a lot of RAM and is not needed when you do all the other tweaks, but it is FAST! Hard to resist probably.
11. Install and use PieControls
These are all the rage now. Getting this feature is as easy as installing this apk to use the LMT Launcher:

2. Volume boost that works with Jellybean (Don't try anything Beats it won't work)
3. V6 SuperCharger - Can cause more problems than solutions unless done right and I need to research more. Kernel tuner goes a long way.

I will let you know what I discover. So far the biggest boosts are browser2ram and freezing all the Asus bloat. It already feels like a different tablet now.
Set performance mode to performance. Enables it to clock at 1.4 ghz (wish we could go higher with stock kernel!)
download Kernel tuner, go to OOM, presets and set it to 1000 aggressive. Also in kernel tuner, set SD cache to 4096.
I didn't find seeder to actually help. Also download Rebooter from the play store and "Hot boot" if you slow down. It essentially kills all non-system apps.
Haven't tried the other apps you linked to the play store. My prime FLIES now
Edit: also have not tried build prop tweaks. Don't see a need just yet, might affect future OTA upgrading as well.
EDIT: Talking about performance, for browsers, I use dolphin with dolphin's jet pack. Doesn't have flash, but sunspider shows this to consistently be the fastest between any other browser on the market. Stock and Chrome come in slightly behind (in that order).
Maybe it is just the euphoria of getting root but seeder works great for me. first thing i installed after rooting. The stockbrowser and xda homepage (showing all devices) would crash the browser every time (stop responding, and require restarting) with seeder it is fine. I even uninstalled seeder to test if imagined the effect but didn't. For me seeder makes the stock browser fully usable. I dont think the browser has stopped responding since i installed seeder.
I will have a go at some of the other tweeks now.

One from me that you have already mentioned, to increase the volume get Volume+ from the play store. There is a free version and a paid version that claims to increaseit more. Maybe someone can suggest something better for the same job and completly free.
Also there was/is an app or tweek to improve the touchscreen persission and sensativity. Anyone know what thats called?

Quick question, i have disabled loads of the bloat apps using settings/apps/all selecting the app and selecting disable, but is there any advantage using titanium backup to freeze or remove the bloat app's?

Don't remover, just freeze it. If you need to OTA, it checks to make sure all the Asus apps are still there.
Also interesting tidbit on seeder. I'll try it again.
As far as changing governors, I could never get it to stick on anything other than interactive...?

Looking into it volume plus no longer works in jellybean. So something else is needed.
I have updated OP with new findings.
Just PMed a mod to move this to General. I'll try Pimp My Rom when I get some time this week and report back if it works or not!

Kind of slow at work tonight so I know what I'll be doing. :good:. Any benchmark numbers before and after doing all this?
I used to use Volume + but is seemed to quit working on JB. I am now using Music Volume EQ. It may not boost your volume as much as Volume + but it works well and I like the EQ, virtualizer and Bass boost functions. I just wish they would optimize their interface for tablets, it's kind of small for a 10 inch screen.

One thing I've noticed with Music Volume EQ is sometime you have to open the app (or press the widget) for it to turn on. I haven't tested it if this is just after a reboot or it happens randomly.
EDIT - At this point all I can is WOW. This stuff really works. Pimp My Rom is the bomb. I've done everything in the list but install Seeder. With Pimp I don't think it's necessary but I may try it later. Also I can't get the CPU manager to boot into Performance mode with Pimp. Not really a big deal since ever since I've had my Prime and rebooted the first thing I do is to switch to Performance mode. It's like second nature to me now. I'll keep messing with it, it's probably something I'm doing.

A lot of these improvements show up in feel, not in benchmarks. But I might add some to the OP. Glad it it helped.

If you are going through the list now please don't install Seeder ( I found something better I think) and hold off on Pimp My Rom or you will have to redo it.

I found a libsqlite.so that was compatible. I promise as soon as I make sure it is safe today I will post how to do everything.

I think it is safe enough given that. The ROMing community here has bought into it 100% and so if it was a big deal it wouldn't be used. I never would make my life depend on my Prime.
And I almost can't explain how much faster it is with FSYNC off. Like everything else in the guide put together doesn't do as much. It is amazing.

Hey all,
I've recently rooted and I'm loving it. Quick background, I've recently rooted using the erisuser1 tutorial at android forums (VERY VERY helpful thank you!). I demo'd a few different ROMs, and decided I really wanted to keep some SenseUI feel, so ended up with xtrSense 4.2. It's worked really well for me, but I may be trying more in the near future (recommendations are welcome!). After the load, I've also utilized SetCPU for OC'ing, which was the main impetus for rooting. Has that ever made a difference! However, the question remains, what next? First, there are a couple things I know I want to do...
1. Remove stock apps: xtrSense did a nice job of removing a lot of bloatware from the OS, but some still remain, i.e. Amazon MP3 and teeter. It seems the xtrSense ROM included scripts for use in GScript to remove these, but I have yet to get them to work when following the steps outlined in the xtrSense post here at XDA. Has anyone had success using this method? If not, shouldn't the mere fact that I have root give me access to removing these programs via another method? What other apps/processes are used to remove stock apps once root is achieved? Any help would be awesome.
2. A2SD, C2SD & C2C: Does anyone use these processes? If so, how has it been achieved? Again, it seems the xtrSense 4.2 ROM included scripts for use in GScript to added this functionality, but I have never seen an increase in internal memory after using the scripts. I have undertaken the prereq that is partitioning my SD card, and have yet to see any success. Have others been successful using this or another process to achieve A2SD, C2SD or C2C? If so, how? 3. What have YOU done post-root? I'm very very happy with what root, ROM and OC has done for the speed and battery life of my phone. Make the rom your own! mess with the theme, install bootanimations, make your own boot.
Change the splash screen (skateboard screen) don't be afraid to mess with the system just make sure you do nandroid backups. Try to figure how to add the features by yourself, struggle with it a little, that's always fun. Follow a few tutorials, like when I was starting there wasn't much documentation on how to enable a2sd by changing the boot.img so I had fun figuring that out.
Hope this gives you a few ideas ;p
Edit: if you going to be messing with phone I would suggest adding a linux partition to your computer if you are a windows person. Makes your life easier no need to worry about drivers etc

Agree, wholeheartedly! I've been rooted since July, and have learned a lot using this forum. It's great to be able to change the boot logo screen, boot animations, etc. You can also improve battery life, increase speed, etc. After root, it's like having a new phone, and you have a greater sense of control over your device each time you learn something new. Have fun!

I don't know what to tell you, as removing stock applications with zach.xtr's Gscript process has always worked flawlessly for me. You may want to upgrade to the new xtrSENSE4.6 Beta that is out (you can find it by browser the more recent posts at the end of the xtrSENSE thread--Zach posted a link).
All I can say is that, when using Gscripts, make sure that you have "Needs SU?" checked. Aside from that, you just need to load Zach's scripts into Gscripts. After you load the scripts, have you pressed them? Just because you've loaded them into Gscripts doesn't mean they've run. You actually need to press on them to run them.

I've used all of them at various points in time--I used to use A2SD and C2SD, but ever since C2C was developed I've had no need. In xtrSENSE4.2, I'm pretty sure C2C is enabled by default. So, you don't need to worry about it UNLESS you're running low on disk space. If you're running low, how many apps do you have installed (you should be able to store ~100 with C2C)?

My recommendation would be NOT to use SetCPU. I've found that running both of Zach's Gscripts for Max and Min CPU Speed has worked better--you won't need to wait for SetCPU to load up, be granted Superuser Permission, and then adjust your clock settings on boot. Plus, you'll have one less process running at all times, increasing performance.
Additionally, you may want to take a look at the xtrSENSE4.6 Beta that I mentioned previously. New, in that version, is the first ever inclusion of Collins_ph's Battery Tweak. Previously, it could only be used with Froyo ROMs. Enabling and configuring the utility will increase battery life because it gradually turns down the speed on your processor proportionally as your battery drains.
In terms of making the ROM "your own," I'd take a look in the Theme's thread. I can't provide you a list of everything that will work on xtrSENSE, but I can confirm that both the Minimal Matte Grey and Touch of Legend MetaMorph Themes do work for xtrSENSE. Also, you may want to check out LauncherPro (Plus), if you haven't already (www.launcherpro.com)... I absolutely love LauncherPro Plus, but I'm not "actively" using it. I'm really waiting on Fede to develop acceptable Photo and Music widgets to replace HTC's Sense Widgets (if anyone has suggestions on existing replacements, please let me know...). Having said that, I run a secondary "experimental" ROM on weekend--I run xtrROM with LauncherPro Plus. If you do decide to use LauncherPro, then I'd really recommend taking a look at xtrROM verses xtrSENSE.
Also, if you're a Sense fan, you might want to check out the newest version of KaosLegendary, V18. This is a port of a Tiawanese leaked version of HTC's forecoming Wildfire Sense UI. This is an Alpha Build at the moment and there are a few nagging issues, but it's neat just to use for half a day on the weekend to see how Froyo Sense will eventually pan out.
Finally, take a look at some of the Froyo ROMs that are built around CyanogenMod 6.0 (e.g. CELB Froyo; KaosFroyo; Tazz Froyo; and I think ShadowROM). Maybe you'll find that you like CyanogenMod better than Sense and stick with that?

P.S. In the future, you're probably better off posting something like this in the Q&A section.
I highly reccommend downloading Titanium and running a batch back up of all your apps and data. When you flash a new rom you can download Titanium again and restore your apps and settings (saves a lot of time if you become a flashaholic). Also grab Root Explorer. It's an app that allows you to access your sd card and your rom system. Wana change your boot animation? Save the file to your sd, open Root Explorer, copy it from the sd to data/local and reboot. Same goes for stock apps. Locate them and delete. Another valuable app is a terminal emulator. Open it up, type SU to obtain superuser permission, then a2sd check. This will tell you if a2sd is functioning correctly. Type a2sd help for a list of commands to use if it's not working.
Always Nand back up and you can flash any rom you want, play with it, screw it up, who cares....nand restore and you're back to point A. I highly reccommend trying a few Froyo roms. You'll need to partition your sd back to all fat32 or it wont recognize it. Froyo is faster than 2.1 and has a stock (somewhat different) a2sd. KaosLegendary is the only current Froyo rom with sense but it's fun to play with. WARNING - many users have bricked their phones using Clockwork. Some people love it but I'm afraid of it.
If you haven't already, try ADW or Launcher Pro. Once you decide you hate one and love the other (this will happen), you wont even miss sense.
Also download Metamorph and Busybox. You'll need these to theme your rom of choice (unless you find a flashable theme).
Now, put your phone down, get back to work, and for God's sake tell your wife you love her. You haven't even talked to her in weeks!!

Great post! +1 on Titantium Backup and Root Explorer--I use both.
Just a note: With Titanium Backup, I recommend scheduling it to backup both Apps + System Data and syncing it with Dropbox. This way, if something should happen, like your SD Card becomes corrupt and you can't Nand Restore, you'll be able to reflash your current ROM and Restore all Apps + System Data, since you're having a scheduled backup taken and stored in your Dropbox folder as well.
Having said that, when flashing a NEW ROM or UPGRADING, remember to Restore "Apps + Data" but NOT to do the "Restore Apps + System Data." This will ensure that if the developer of your ROM has changed any system files, they won't be messed up. Sure, it'll take you 10-15 minutes to get your ROM the way you want (e.g. Home Screens, Systems Sounds, Notifications, etc.) but it's worth it to know that everything will work properly. Since your applications and their set up have nothing to do with the ROM, you can rest easily knowing that at least they'll come back configured as you left them for the most part.

Sure, it'll take you 10-15 minutes to get your ROM the way you want (e.g. Home Screens, Systems Sounds, Notifications, etc.) but it's worth it to know that everything will work properly. Since your applications and their set up have nothing to do with the ROM, you can rest easily knowing that at least they'll come back configured as you left them for the most part.

Perfectly explained, nice job sir. This should be in the rollup!! Too many people make the mistake of restoring sys data from a older rom to newer, have to watch that. Rollup

Yes you're right C2C is default, I guess I'm just not certain if it's working. Apparently, there are two blocks on internal storage being used for apps in 4.2: /data/ and /cache/. I have 56mb free according to internal memory settings (/data/??) and 87.7 of 130mb used in /cache/ according to the report setting gscript Zach made. According to AppBrain I currently have 33 apps installed. 33 apps, ~100mb used already? Average of 3mb per app?? That just didn't seem right to me...maybe I'm just plain wrong. Opinions welcome!!

I may try that, although in full disclosure, my main reason for rooting and OC'ing was for running game console emulators. They run SO much better since OC'ing. I did try Zach's max out of the box (710 max?), but I find that my SetCPU main setting of 768,528 during normal usage makes operation even more smooth and especially works best when emulating. I want to OC even when battery is lowering until it gets to the condition threshold i set in SetCPU (amount or temp). But I still may try his scripts and lose SetCPU, thanks for the idea.

So here's my questions with this: Don't apps like MetaMorph and Launcher run on top of everything that the ROM already has going on, thus adding another cumbersome running process to the already limited hardware? Wouldn't running this be akin to having two GUI's on the phone, or am I looking at this the wrong way? I'm assuming that's why you recommend switching to the more vanilla xtrROM, but maybe I'm off.
I also do badly want to try some additional ROM's once I have the time. The leaked Froyo with Sense ROM does sound intriguing and I may pursue that next.

Just a note: With Titanium Backup, I recommend scheduling it to backup both Apps + System Data and syncing it with Dropbox. This way, if something should happen, like your SD Card becomes corrupt and you can't Nand Restore, you'll be able to reflash your current ROM and Restore all Apps + System Data, since you're having a scheduled backup taken and stored in your Dropbox folder as well.
Having said that, when flashing a NEW ROM or UPGRADING, remember to Restore "Apps + Data" but NOT to do the "Restore Apps + System Data." This will ensure that if the developer of your ROM has changed any system files, they won't be messed up. Sure, it'll take you 10-15 minutes to get your ROM the way you want (e.g. Home Screens, Systems Sounds, Notifications, etc.) but it's worth it to know that everything will work properly. Since your applications and their set up have nothing to do with the ROM, you can rest easily knowing that at least they'll come back configured as you left them for the most part.

Great thank you both! I will take both of these posts into account when using Titanium before I go further down the ROM rabbit hole.
After doing the rounds installing Auto Nooter on several NookColors, I thought I'd make a quick list of apps that are essential to have for any new installation. I'll update this list as needed, but hopefully it will provide new rooted users a good jumping point to get a nicely functioning device.
This list is geared towards the new rooted NookColor user who runs stable builds / auto nooted builds. If you just bought a Nook Color and haven't rooted yet, go see Guide to Nook Color Rooting. Many of these apps below will fix problems with the stock rom.
The list isn't really targeted for the Nookie Froyo bootable SD card, so if you have one, take what you will.
If you're a hip person and run custom roms or the like, you may find these useful, too! (Using ClockWorkRecovery or other roms is currently not documented in the Nook Color rooting guide. Don't attempt unless you're able to fix if things break.)

Home Switcher - Say you accidentally set your home to not Softkeys before you got a launcher? Go grab home switcher and fix it!
ADWLauncher, or other Home screen. You need some place to run everything from. ADW Launcher is a great first step, and you can always change later.
AppBrain - An app market add-on that manages your apps for you. Much more comprehensive than current market.
Fancy Widget - Gets you started with an all-in-one clock widget you can add to your launcher, since ADW doesn't give you one by default. Add Fancy Home from the widgets menu for the comprehensive widget.
SoftLocker - Keeps wifi from bugging during a sleep by forcing sleep mode to only turn off screen. Yes, this will drain more battery, but the NC battery is huge, and not having to forcefully reconnect at every wake is worth it for people dealing with bugs. You may have to relaunch SoftLocker at reboot to get it to work properly, but that's a one-time thing per session.
DolphinBrowser HD, Miren Browser, etc. - There are plenty of better web browsers than the built-in one, mostly supporting multitouch, tabs, and more.
Root Explorer - Costs $4 at the time of this post. If you're going to spend any money on an android app, this should be it. A file management tool that is a million times better than others, since you can do a lot of simple root activities on device quickly without needing adb. It's really a very good and important to have app.
Astro File Manager - Another good file manager, but doesn't support Root. It's really good for simple file system management where you don't want to run the risk of breaking anything. Also, it can somehow install apk packages in the worst of conditions where other installers fail.
Titanium Backup - good for backing up data, or wiping data from a buggy app that keeps crashing
Thumb keyboard - $1.65 at time of posting. possibly the best keyboard for the nook. Beautiful display, customizable key and row height. Make sure to suppress full screen in options. Any keyboard requires some setup process to install via Terminal. See Replacing the Default Keyboard (You can use the terminal app below. Your app location should be /data/app/com.beansoft.keyboardplus.apk . Copy that to /system/app and use NookColor Tools to set the keyboard. This will make the market think the app isn't installed, but it works!)
Disk Usage - shows a visual representation of disk space at a glance. great app for finding where your space went!
GScript - lets you automate scripted commands. good for devs.
Android Terminal - lets you enter commands directly. good for devs.
adbwireless - adb connections over wireless. very convenient.
ROM Manager - An important app if you're using one of the newer experimental builds running from ClockworkModRecovery. If you don't know what this is, forget I even said anything about this app... Or read this link if you're really interested in some cutting edge build stuff, but ignore it if you just want a working device and you've auto nooted.

Great list, here's a few more.
Miren browser - polished 3rd party browser with some awesome features. Slick menus and swipe to go forward and back sold me.
Thumb keyboard - possibly the best keyboard for the nook. I'm currently using the honeycomb skin and it looks fantastic. Customizable key and row height. Perfect for my huge thumbs.
Astro - file manager, compression handler, app installer,image and sound player....all around a badass app essential to any android device.
Also wanted to mention that root explorer is excellent. Forget logging on your computer to modify a file. I changed my nook hardware keys in a minute or so using root explorer. Great app.
Dont forget rom manager and the knowledge of howto make a nandroid with it

If you are on the stock os 1.1 (Eclair 2.1) you may want to look into Advanced Task Killer. If you are on Froyo or higher you shouldn't use this. Android will do a good job taking care of itself.
That said, I reboot my Android devices once every couple of days. I notice that keeps it running pretty well.
I actually have been using advanced task killer on froyo. Will that hurt anything?
I found WiFi Explorer (FREE) or Pro ($1.60) very useful to move files between my computer and NC without a cable.
Besides some of the other great apps people have said I would add 'Pulse' as an RSS reader. It looks so good and a great way to get your news!

Tasker turns a smartphone into a SMART phone.
I thought about getting it to try to enable a numeric lock code, and trying on my DX, it does work with one of the Locale plugins, but it's a bit flaky. I was gonna set the Nook so that if it was within range of my WiFi at home or at work, it would not have the lock code, but everywhere else, it would be enabled.

Yes....You are running froyo...android 2.2 and above optimizes running apps/services...don't mess with it...keep one around if you have to kill a rogue app on the fly, but dont let it run continuously....

I would strongly recommend the following:
Moon+ Reader for reading ebooks
Perfect viewer for comics
Epistle for taking notes (synchronises with dropbox)
I use ATK a lot on my DroidX with Froyo, if not it just keeps on getting slower and the battery drains quickly. What happens is some apps keep transmitting even though you closed them. For example, USA Today app I believe keeps sending fresh news articles even after you close the app as it's still running. So keeping it alive when you may not look at it until a few days later is wasteful of battery life and slows other stuff you want to do. Was it works with 2.1, I don't think so, I believe ATK is just as relavent now than then.
The app you really need to get after Angry Birds is Paper Toss.
File Expert?
I use File Expert for managing my files on my nook. It's free, has an option to run as root, and has a built in network interface that works out of the box. Plus having a back button right on the UI makes it easier than using any of the soft keys hacks... I can't post links, but the package is called "xcxin.filexpert" on the market.

That's why you hear people comment "I tried AKMO but it didn't do anything..."
Most likely it didn't do anything because the apps weren't sitting where they were expected to be.

But if you toggle between Hard To Kill and BulletProof launchers, the memory adjustments aren't affected.
So you can leave your minfrees at stock/default settings and apply the Hard To Kill Launcher and still get the OOM Grouping/Priority fixes.
So if you love your ROMs memory settings, just try the HTK Launcher/OOM Fix... you won't regret it

I don't think this will work with the fascinate "If you have /system/etc/rootfs/init.mapphone_umts.rc"... the fascinate is CDMA. This will only work with AT&T or T-mobile as they are UMTS

Yes it is on verizon's network. I'm guessing that file isn't doing anything on CDMA phones.
I'm not a dev but I do know my networks. I work for Alcatel-Lucent in which we translate & make the cell cabinet,towers, & customer networks communicate. We are the people that brought you verizons 3g & LTE technology. Currently working on AT&T's UMTS & LTE networks. Yes i am the inside inside man. Wow... chill out dude. I saw umts at the end of the file and simply was just saying that these phones are cdma. I already said I'm not a dev. Comments like yours make people not even want to comment. I'm not new to roms, rooting, etc... I started out with the original droid, then D2 and I've had the fascinate ever since it came out. Rooted & started out with superclean when it became available. Yeah I tried this on a friends Fascinate and it dropped dead, wouldnt boot up.
Had to Odin up and restore back to stock.
I noticed my friends swype keyboard would lag even after restore back to stock.
thus the reason to try this script in the first place.The fasciante is decent lil bugger.
Its too bad I sing its praises on Evo thought, it really kicks butt.
im using this right now on my fascinate running miui 1.9.9 and its working flawlessly... three 3g tweak also works great. thanks zeppelinrox
It works with the fascinate, I use it constantly, and it doesn't need to be ported, the author stated it should work on nearly any device/ROM setup. Just get Script Manager app from the market, open app, go to settings, browse as root, then run the V6 script. It will give instructions as it runs.

Just ran the script last night, while it took me a while to fidget with it and figure out what option was best for me I can't believe that cm7 could be any smoother but there is a definite difference after running the script, with no lag, or home screen redraw, my phone is as smooth if not smoother at 1GHz.then it was at 1.5GHz before the script...just want to say it was painless easy and really made a huge difference...thanks a lot!
On a side note the battery calibration that was linked in the op does seem to work but I had to figure out when to pull the battery since the original instructions where on the milestone, either way great job and thanks again, I'll run this script after any rom I go to from here on out!

I ran it last night as well. I cannot really tell a difference. What setting are you running?
Option 8 and then option 12, set to browse root, and run as root in the first config screen...afterwords reboot and run option 1...it will tell you if your home screen was easy to kill or not and gives you a list of minfrees...I had to downgrade my busy box to 1.18.2.to get everything working
Edit: I used script manager to run the script and then put the widget on my home screen to easily access it...if you run option 1 and it says your home screen is bullet proof then it did work...I seem to get much better 3g connectivity and better download speeds.

What's wrong
-White(ish) text on white in a couple menus
-As with many custom roms, this comes with Nova Launcher. Note- it's nice to have a weather and clock widget. I've included Android Weather in the zip, but it gets deleted with updater script in recovery, because it acts like a 'rogue' app and cpu will run full blast until it's deleted. But, it won't do that if you copy/paste it to /system/app manually. Or, if you'd like Sense, that's included too, more on that later.
How to
-Flash the base Rom
-Let boot, reboot into recovery
-Dirty Flash the Bada$$ Rom right over it
-Boot, WAIT for Reader to import books, then open SuperSU, install binary normally.
-Open SManager, grant su, open settings, Advanced, Configuration, Home Directory- /system/bin. Then navigate to /system/etc. Run Zsysctl.sh as su on boot. Navigate to /system/etc/init.d. Run these as su on boot: 08oomtweaks, 92vac, 99buttered, MoreIOTweaks, sqliteDbs, and zzzz. Before running zzzsqliteDbs, make sure you've had an internet connection so that you have a gservices.db. Run it on boot also.
Sense
If you want Sense Launcher, go into Titanium Backup, Backup/Restore, scroll to bottom and restore Htc Sense(app only, restore data later if you want). Then flash Sense zip provided.

-If ya use Android Firewall, media server needs internet for YouTube to work. And when using DroidVpn, the kernel needs internet perm's along with 'all apps running as root'
-If using Sense, whichever apps are put in dock will be on the lockscreen. With Nova launcher, Lockscreen Shortcuts app is used to set them.
-If having tether or 3g problems, go into CrossBreeder app and disable Bypass ISP. If getting network error with YouTube, disable dnsmasq.

And if the friggin notification sounds still won't work, go into es file explorer, long press on the sound in the /sdcard/media/audio folder, sub menu appears, hit 'more', press 'compress'. Delete original sound. Then long press on the zip file that it makes, press 'more' again, press 'extract', hit 'current path', delete the zip, and now the sound will show in sound picker. When flashed to sd, the id3 tags are screwed up for some reason....? This generic method creates them.
Edit, also I rebuilt the kernel wrong, it was only at 1.35GHz max, and no gpu oc, here is the fix- https://db.tt/vITkrXLP

hi all, this is my thread from a long time ago, so if you've subscribed, you're in luck! since the coromavirus hit, and even longer, I've been working on putting together the ultimate package for adblocking, tracker crushing, just, a pure web experience where your device isn't downloading garbage that eats up data, especially useful for 4g/5g connections!
Way back in 2013 I rooted my first device, the Evo 3D. then ensued an almost compulsive urge to use my devices the way I want, from theming (I love dark themed apps) to adblocking. I haven't found an allin-one solution for my adblocking, etc. needs, and so I imagine there's others out there looking for the same. The ultimate one stop shop for android needs. I've found it thru a little app called Adguard. An extremely powerful app, with options to run extensions that further the android experience. Such as video downloaders, which may be considered warez here on XDA. YT dl'ers, vimeo, fb, p*rn, e.g.
Also offered is theming options to websites. One important one you'll find is filterlists.com. I've included filter lists in this package that I've found useful and helpful. I could go on and on about all the features, I'll stick to a select few I'm most excited about. so when you install this, check out how I took a modification, a filter, called DarkFilterLists, n made it better, @ www.filterlists.com/lists Check out reddit n imgur n xda n pinterest n facebook n twitter n YouTube n Google n music streaming sites n video streaming sites and the list goes on. like I said, it's a much cleaner browsing experience! PLEASE! Test my work, n it's not all on me, I've found so much help online plus with tampermonkey's modules this is a kickass mod. but the down side is that it costs. U get 2 weeks free n after that u can pay monthly, yearly, or like $70 last time I checked for a lifetime.

Now for the instructions or directions on how to install this. Adguard is in the Play Store. 2 weeks fully featured, during this period, you'll notice a bulge or wetness in your undies. don't worry, it's common. this is a judgement free zone here. so install, go to settings-
General-Import settings.json I supply here. Then settings- Content Blocking- user rules- import adguard_cb_user_filter...then go into your wifi settings and type in the settings in the pics included with my zip file you download.

I tried the wire unlock method and everything was going good till close to the last restart it just went into a boot looping was never able to get it back as I had other phone already and forgot about it but I want to get it up and running, it was fun taking 3d pictures. Help please

I'll do what I can for ya, I don't understand what happened exactly. You S-off'd n it started bootlooping, is that it? Do you have s-off, if so, flash the eng. H-boot, I never came across a rom it wouldn't boot. Have you tried restoring a backup, I'm familiar with twrp and I can't remember what the touch recovery was called. It's been a long time since I've had this device. I'll check back here, gimme more info on what's going on

It still s-on, I was trying to do a downgrade to do s-off but on the attempt it never booted again, it was gonna restart and flash a file to s-off but something went wrong it got stuck on a boot loop. I am on hboot 1.58.0000 radio 1.09.00.0108 Thanks for helping dude

I used the app Package Disabler Pro+ (Samsung) by policedeveloper available on Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elmklmsamsung.batteryaddon No longer available, and does not even work on my device anymore.
UPDATE 16 JUL 19: Above app is reportedly once again available on Play Store. HOWEVER, those who recently purchased it have to do so AGAIN! Please consider this if you decide to purchase.
For those with better skills and a computer, using adb's 'pm uninstall -k --user 0 <package name>' is an option, too. You can use the 'disable lists' to facilitate this.

IMPORTANT: You won't really know the true effects of your disabling til you restart the tablet! On the other hand, it seems that undisabling (re-enabling?) takes effect immediately.

Figured Out What Caused Slow UI
With further testing I figured out that com.android.providers.telephony DIALER STORAGEis what was causing slowness. Who'd a thunk it?
This is probably my last post in this thread, and present below what I currently have disabled while maintaining, for me, full functionality. In my case 'full funtionality' means no Bixby, Knox, Phone stuff, Telemetry (as far as I can using this method), most Samsung bloat as well as a few other things. I'll continue experimenting, though.

Whiter teeth ? and better sleep ? Actually, for me it's all about not letting someone else dictate what my tablet does, and what information is 'shared' (stolen, is how I view it). For instance, this thing has a telemetry function. I don't care what kind of telemetry it is, I din't want it. Also, this thing is not a phone and I don't use it for phone-like activities, so I don't want it to try to act like a phone, with all the activity in the background. I could go on and on, but...
To answer your question, no noticeable increase in performance. I do, however, enjoy the benefits I mentioned in the first sentence—except for the 'whiter teeth' thing.
I will root this tablet and then have full control—lots and lots of deleting files and folders. I can hardly wait!
I just got this tablet today, my last one was a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 before switching to a Surface Pro.
I missed Android multitasking and the apps which I'm pleased to have back but what's not nice is the amount of clutter that still exists in Samsung's ROMs.
I hope we can get AOSP or Lineage ported to this as One UI sucks.

I agree. This my my first large-screen tablet—8.4" before—and I love it! The app works quite well. It is what allowed me to experiment. When I root, even if I don't install a custom ROM—I have no problem with the OneUI, uh, UI—I'll know what to start with, uninstall-wise.
One thing I don't like is inability to use Substratum—at least for now. If you find a way to theme this tablet please let us know.
I did end up caving and buying that package disabler, used your latest script and re-enabled some apps.
Found that now the icons are missing from the notifications drop down which is fantastic! It was cluttered.
Couple of things to note:
Dolby Atmos has gone, I used this when watching Netflix as it did make a difference.
One UI Home app, also known as com.sec.android.app.launcher, when disabled will give you the stock Android multitasking which is fantastic! I use Evie launcher so I would RECOMMEND you have a different launcher installed before doing this.
I've done a quick search for the Atmos app but no luck so far, if you have any ideas?

I hadn't done anything where the audio was of concern, so I didn't notice. I just installed a few games though, RealRacing 3 being one of them, so now I care! No ideas, so I'll have to do some researching.
Thanks for the OneUI info. I use Nova Prime and frequently try out other ones, 'hyperion' being the latest, even though it force closes on opening—it bugs me that I can't easily get a proper log. Love Evie for my phone.

Atmos is missing from the notification quick toggles and in the Settings under Sound > Advanced Settings. Will have to look through the disabled apps. Have you since uninstalled the apps completely?
Just need to get that working now. Had an issue with Evie when rotating to portrait, it would leave half the screen white for some reason so now I have moved to Nova Launcher which works flawlessly.
My tablet does feel quicker now, I have all the animations turned off in Developer Options. Especially on boot it's not lagging, ready to go sooner. I've even got the 6GB/128GB version.

Just checked, and Atmos is there for me—able to change settings for it, too.
Here's something you could try—do a file compare between what you have disabled, and my '133-ok' list, which is still working fime for me. I've been using DiffTool the File Compare Tool from Play Store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.difftool to compare what I had newly disabled with what I had previously disabled. The interface and usage is a bit clunky (the dev has stated something to the effect of "it's a tool, not a beauty pageant"). HINTS: Use the compare TEXT files, then save the results using the ? icon to be able to use a text editor to see the results.
Please let us know what you find.
[EDIT] I f you find a better way to compare files on Android I'd sure like to know about it.

Thank you for this valuable contribution. For those looking for root, this is the better route. You'll free up CPU and RAM whilst removing applications deemed unnecessary.
Been a while since I've been able to have a look but I've managed to find it using DiffTool
The package is com.sec.android.app.soundalive, now in Settings > Sound > Advanced Sound Settings > Sound Quality and Effects. Then in there you have Atmos. It's now working again!

Am considering about getting a s5e but the demo unit in my local retailers are kinda sluggish. Not sure if that is because of the bloatware or the demo mode.
May I know if this way of disabling bloatware will void my warranty? How much snappier will the device become after the cpu and ram are being freed up?

No issues with warranty. All you are doing is disabling/freezing apps—something that can be done via Android's normal Settings for a lot of apps. What you'll be able to do via these apps or adb is disable/freeze apps that you wouldn't normally be able to.
I'm not really sure if disabling/freezing has improved performance because this tablet's response to everything I've thrown at it is so brisk! Admittedly,I'm not a big-time gamer—e.g. no Fortnite. My guess is that the demo unit was not set up properly/at all and was also subject to a 'demo mode effect', if there is such a thing. ?
In a nutshell, I think this thing is plenty quick! am *extremely happy with it, and I would recommend it. I don't know what sort of return policy you might be dealing with, but once you get it home it ain't goin' nowhere.

It's "Package Disabler Pro+ (Samsung)". Did a search and it came up first on the list. ?

I cannot find any app called "package disabler pro+(Samsung)" ..... so, I think they deleted from playstore....
