What phone would you take? N4 or HTC1? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

I currently have the Nexus 4 and am really considering switching to the HTC one. Everything from the build quality and the specs seem to be better than the NExus 4. I love the original OS of the Nexus 4 and how it will get the first updates. My only thing is with the HTC one is that will I be able to root the HTC one? And if so, will i be able to have the same controls as the Nexus 4? Such as a Navigation ring, or the pie control.
Will the HTC one be as customizable as N4?
What would you guys be getting if you had choice between the two and why?
Thanks

I think the Nexus 4 is more customizable since its pure stock android.. You don't have to deal with HTC stuff..
i had my Nexus 4 and i sold it for the S4.. it got boring to me and i never used it besides to stream music.. my Note 2 and iPhone was always my primary devices.. if someone gave me a choice i would pick the HTC One.. even with the updates being late
You really only had 3 roms to choose from (PA, AOKP, CM) because the rest was just kangs and didn't change a thing.. besides different tweaks

Would I be able to root the HTC one? Because I've heard you can't unless you get the developer version of it.

i have the N4 love it but i love my htc phones and im a sense fan
PA on the nexus 4 is by far the best rom for the nexus add in faux kernel .. dream come true

Read the other threads and you'll see that the HTC One from AT&T has already been rooted and unlocked its bootloader. There's no guarantee it will stay that way, but at the moment it is. Also, if you're looking for an AOSP type ROM, it will come, but there is no time table. The questions you're asking are all yet TBD. Also, if you were to buy the HTC One, you'll have no problem selling it to buy the N4.

I had the Nexus 4 for a little bit. The only thing it has over the One is wireless charging and the latest Android version.
On the One, the camera is a ton better, screen is much better, build quality is much better, has LTE, and has front facing speakers for watching YouTube videos or music if you like. That's just to name a few.

Inspire user here... Is the Note worth it?

I'm an inspire user who's been debating switching to the Note for awhile, but decided to see what the Galaxy S3 would look like... Now that the specs have been released, it doesn't seem all the impressive.
So what about the Note? Is it worth it? It seems to be a very popular phone according to its users... What of the "lag," that I've read about... Do custom ROMS basically fix that? (I know I felt the Inspire was a tad laggy until I started using custom roms/kernels).
Also, what is the situation as far as custom ROMS.... are you satisfied with what's available?
Thanks for letting me know about your phone.... I'm extremely interested (especially with the recent price drop).
There are plenty of roms to choose from. For me, team objections new ROM plus dagr8 tablet mode is perfect. It makes me love the note even more. The.combination of these have no lag. Most custom roms don't, and incest they release kernel source for ics it'll get even better. Personally I think it's one of the best (definitely the most beautiful) phones on the market.

This is my second Note. ....I had an international Note first, and it works very well.My wife even likes it and wants it when I am "through with it" as she puts it....lol. I told her that there will have to be a Note 2 before that happens......
Later......
Vs
I came from the inspire.
There is no comparison between the two devices. The note has a faster processor, better screen, more ram for programs and more storage. The S-pen is a great addition. The Camera is better + it has a front facing camera.
As far as lag, I have not experienced any lag worse than on the inspire. When I sold my inspire it was running the latest CM7. Running the note on ICS beta's are faster than the Inspire was OC'ed.
The BIGGEST thing you have to think about is physical size, I love it, some do not. As far as performance goes you can't make a valid comparison.

Thanks guys... Might have to pick this up in the next week or two. The size is definitely not an issue for me, as I'm a pretty big guy, and I love the idea of a large cell phone screen.
I came from the Inspire as well.
After running ICS on the Inspire, GB & TW is a let down.
Once we (Note users) get our own version of ICS, it'll be even better. Which will be pretty impressive, considering ICE on DHD & Inspire ran really well.

G.note can easily be my Primary phone as soon as they fix the radio to work 99% with AWS 1700
currently the radio is at like 90%, it's usable, just not reliable enough as the only phone
other than that, the G.note is the perfect device for everything.
the natural writing is what i like the most about the G.note, which also eliminates all the problems i have with my oily fingers, using the Stylus instead of my fingers keeps my screen smudge clean for longer periods of time
Too many people cry or bit** about touchwiz. There are plenty of good launchers on the the playstore. If you dont like it, root it and flash a rom. Samsung has already made their point about keeping tw on their devices. Only the Nexus will have pure google os. Also Note that HTC Sense is just as bad but LG is worse.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

The Inspire was the best Android phone I had... until I got my Note. Sure, there are more ROM choices for the Inspire, but as far as performance and capability, the Note wins hands down. I don't regret it one bit. Not even now that the One X is out and the SGS3 on the way. I don't know if I could ever use a smaller screen again.
HTC Sense
I came from a Inspire 4g loved the phone but always wished the display was bigger especially for texting. Now the the NOTE is better in every way except for one thing the UI. Touchwiz is OK it gets the job done but it's nothing like HTC Sense doesn't look as good or have as many options Sense had. Now Sense did slow down the Inspire anlong with the bloatware form AT&T but the custom ROMs made for it fixed all that so you would get beauty and speed from Sense there are roms for the Note that speed up touchwiz but the UI is not near as good as HTC Sense

They are based off of a leak, so they have some minor issues. Some people complain more than others. /shrug
Personally, I have been running The Unofficial 1.1A2 from the day I bought my note, with zero issues. I am waiting for the official release of ICS and source, before flashing again.

Which one to buy???

Hi ....Please help me in deciding which one to buy ... HTC One X+ or Iphone 5 or LG google nexus 4 ...I have never used any high- end phones like these... but I want to experience one .. Please give me some suggestions... I had decided to buy HOX+ but after reading WIFI issues and other issues, I want to think twice . I am not a heavy user .My main main requirements are :
1. Perfect sound quality ( without any distortion)
2.Perfect Camera
and 3. Ease of use
You can suggest me other phones also . But shold be flagship phones and the phone should have good resell value
If you can get it I'd say the Nexus 4, but it's been out of stock online. I love my Xperia Ion,not sure I'd change it for anything other than the Nexus 4. My wife has a Galaxy S III and loves it. If I could get a Nexus 4 tho I'd jump on it in a heartbeat. I must say that I'd give the HTC 8X Windows Phone 8 a look for easy of use, good size screen, easy to setup, there isn't alot of customization available for it,but the camera is really good and it has Beats Audio built in for good music. There are more apps for Android, but there are still a bunch for it and more coming up everyday. Go by a local store and give the Windows 8 Phone a look and the Galaxy S III and maybe the iPhone 5, but the screen size on the iPhone isn't anywhere near as big as either HTC or Samsung phone.

Thank u very much for your suggestion ... Actually , I dont like windows phones that much because 1. Bluetooth sharing problem , that is.. windows to windows only 2. Same boring live tiles and no change in background and like that ... Now, the only pne left is Nexus 4 ... Right now , I am in between Nexus 4 and HTC One X+ ....I have read that , the camera and sound quality of HOX+ is better in comparisn to N4 ( May be that would depend on user ), JB 4.1 + htc sence + is better that stock android (again depends on user ), battery life better on HOX+ .
I am ready to buy HOX+ , but the wifi problem and other issues threatens me a lot.

I wasn't even aware of any Wi-Fi or other issues. Aren't you referring to the one x Wi-Fi issue? That's not a problem on the one x+ anymore. I've been using a one x+ since it came out and haven't experienced any troubles with it so far, so I don't think you should be afraid of any issues... If anything, you should be afraid of the hardware quality of the n4 I guess. The reputation of LG isn't that great, while HTC is known for its hardware quality.
Hello!
In shorts.
I have HOX+, I had some fun with nexus 4 and i have little experience with IPhone 5
Nexus 4 is best in terms of value for money.
HOX+ is great(i will not use word best, but for me it's best for my need) in terms camera and music* (it depends what type of music you listen and quality of format).
IPhone5 is simpler and safer to use* (controversial, but accorind to my experience people easier learn iOS)
WiFi issue? eee i don't have any and i tried on home wifi ,wifi in train and works smoothly. I will worry more about battery to be honest as bettery is enough for minor use as mobile will struggle badly in intence use (but battery pack connected via usb solved this problem in my case)
I chosen HTC one x+ because as it better my purpose (music, music, music,do picture of bizzare things, all in one tool, android development )
btw. i am not expert.i just told my experience.

Well... The WIFI problem seems to an indivisual problem.
So, I am 95% convinced to buy the HOX+... Now, the Price matters a lot. I mean in India HOX+ costs Rs 40k where as Nexus 4 costs 34k.I was thinking about the resell value of the phone. After 6 -8 months , SGS 4 with a 3 Ghz processor is going to hit the market. This samsung beast is going to reduce the resell value for sure. At that time, I will have to sell my HOX+ for say 25k or N4 for 25k .... If I buy HOX+ , I will going to have a loss of 5 k or may be more ....
BTW : Thank u very much

To the OP, I'd suggest the iPhone 5 for what you're looking for. Nexus 4 is out cus this is 2013, a device with less than 16gb of memory, sad. Also making the mistake of the iPhone 4, would never again get a device with a glass case, lol! You also want a great camera which the new iPhone provides and the hox+ sucks in low light pics. Only good during the day for pics. Also u want perfect sound quality, well if u use Bluetooth to talk than again the hox+ is out of the question. If u don't rely on Bluetooth talking then the hox+ has amazing sound quality everywhere else imo! Even louder and better speaker quality than my wifes iPhone 5.
Now if u can wait at least 3 months for an upgrade I would hold out! New line of smartphones is where it's out. Grf is suppose to come out with the M7 whatever that will be and the galaxy IIII. Should both be out by March, for sure first sister 2013. Hopefully the new HTC flagship device will come correct with quality Bluetooth and fixed camera issues.
@ OP, I agree with deeznuts (LMAO), iphone 5 sounds like a good choice for you. It has FANTASTIC sound quality, both speakers and headphones, its easy to use and its powerful. Plus the design is amazing, personally I'm not a fan of IOS but since you never really experienced any high end smart phones, the iphone 5 is a great start. After that you can upgrade to android ( its not a shot at apple just the truth).
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2
Same here go for the iPhone 5, your new to smartphones so go with that and you will never run into any issues . That being said, ios is slightly dull and boring.
The Nexus 4 isn't as bad of a choice as a lot of other people think, it's respectable in every aspect except for 4G connectivity. And tbh you can't go wrong with any of them. So just have a go at them in the shop and see how it goes.
Sent from my HTC One X+
I agree with iPhone 5 being the best choice for OP. It has incredible easy of use and arguably the best camera / sound quality combo. For me HTC One X+ is the best choice for me, but mine is rooted and has a custom ROM. That's probably more than a 1st time smart phone buy want to gets into.

Personally I would recommend the HTC one x+. The only issue I have with the phone is Bluetooth audio quality in phone calls, which should be resolved in an update. Camera is very good, some low light pictures are grainy.
There is no perfect smart phone all have some thing wrong. New iPhone 5 has camera issues with a purple hue due to the lens cover. Aluminium case scratches very easily. Exchange mail/calendar bugs (May have been fixed)
As far as ease of use I had an iPhone for 3 years and find most things easier to do on android since ics+. IPhone does some things better but at a price of loss of control over your phone. If I want a program to be a default app I can do that on android not on ios. ITunes is a nightmare.
Either way they are both high end smart phones and would be happy with either. If you can try the HTC and return it if you don't like it. Here in the USA I get 2 weeks to try a phone before I have to commit to the purchase.
Good luck

Only thing is in 6 months there is already rumoured to be an iPhone 6 coming out according to BGR. The one thing I don't like about the Apple Mac stuff is with iTunes your stuck if you've bought songs, unless your hallways knowledgable about it, it's a pain to pull your music from your ldevice. It's "cool" and "hip" and all, but I think imho I'd stick with WinMo 8 or Android.

Has anyone gone from Nexus 4 to HTC One yet?

I put this thread in general because it was getting more views and needed some advice.
I currently have the Nexus 4 and am loving it. But the HTC One looks amazing and I've heard that the only it doesn't have over the Nexus 4 is 4.2.2. Now I don't do bluetooth or wireless charging so thats not an issue for me. Also I've had a HTC phone and heard they have ridiculously slow updates and I know that Key Lime Pie is right around the corner. But I feel like since the HTC One is such a premium phone, that they might actually try to bring the KLP quicker than normal? I don't know, it might just be my wishes, but I want to hear from the people that switched from the Nexus 4 to the HTC One.
1) Do you have any regrets in buying the HTC One and want to go back to the Nexus 4?
2) If you like the HTC One over the Nexus 4, what are some reasons you prefer it over the N4?
Thanks guys
No regrets at all. Best phone I've used to date by far.
Best thing about the one compared to n4 is my damn WiFi works now.

Seriously dude, even when we get KLP, you won't even be able to tell. Ask anyone with a GS3 what their phone looked like before and after it got JB, it's pretty much identical.
With all the features my phone has running 4.1.2, I don't possibly see what I am missing even from 4.2.2....it's just a version number and a couple of features devs will hack into every Sense rom.....Just ask the Viper team.
The One is so far superior to the Nexus....the only claim to fame it has is a version number.

no regrets at all giving up my nexus4
1) No regrets. I can basically sell my Nexus 4 for what I bought it for.
2) Where to start...
I love holding the phone. It looks so much better than the Nexus 4.
I love the way Sense 5 looks compared to stock (Sense 5 seems cleaner)
The camera is incredible (not only are the pictures better, but it takes them so much faster) and the front facing camera is amazing
The screen basically kicks my Nexus 4's in the nuts
I now enjoy listening to music from my speakers
Sense 5. I know I said I liked the looks of it, but I do think it is better than stock in some ways on a functional level.
MUSIC. This is a huge part of a phone to me. If I'm not talking to someone I'm listening to music. I'm planning on specializing in Music Business Management (majoring in Economics) and the HTC One has the best sound quality I've heard from a phone so far. Note: I've installed the PureXAudio mod to further enhance the music, but I was using music enhancers on the Nexus 4 as well. None of them compared to the HTC One because the hardware just wasn't there.
Lots of people's HTC one's are failing , or falling apart.
However I feel that if that was fixed. I could easily switch from my nexus to the one !

THANKS EVERYONE! I am definitely going to switch to the HTC One. Seems like there really is no difference between 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. Also because of one feature... LTE.
If you guys want to keep posting your reasons you guys can, cuz itll make me feel even more sure about my decision. LOL.
Really appreciate the quick feedbacks.
I had the Nexus for 3 weeks and that was more than enough time for me to realize it was time to move on. I sold it to my friend for 300. I've always been an htc fan but for the past year I became a phone whoe and try out different phones
Quite honestly the Nexus 4 is a boring phone to me. Plain vanilla Android is just that plain.
Sure the Nexus get the latest updates but you know what? Who cares. Some of those update are just not significant

And you think that someone will make that decision for you? Read technical parameters of those phones, ask yourself "what do I need from it" and decide!
I know there specs.... Just wanted to know what people suggest to buy after using one x plus.... What's the problem in asking suggestions.!

I have a One X+ & my wife has the SGS3. Both are excellent phones with similar battery life but my personal preference is for Sense over Touchwizz. Others will no doubt disagree. What I can tell you is whichever phone you choose you will not be disappointed.
You'll probably get a better deal from your network on an X+ though just because of the Samsung hype.

I'm one that likes Touchwiz over Sense but still bought the X+ cause of the tegra cpu, wanted to play thd games, lol, also i have no ideea why but I used a S3 for a kinda long time and can't really say i like the way it is built cause i feel like it could slip from my hand in any moment, and it also feels too fragile and in my opinion the borders are kinda big, but if I'd be to recommend one of them for software i would say S3 cause we have no s-off on the X+ and also not many non-sense roms, and some of them are outdated also, also an other + for s3 is that as much as i would play with it it won't heat like the X+ does, but also the battery drains faster in games than on the X+, so yah for the op, it's more of a preferance thing, cause at the hardware part they are preety close......but they do behave different.....also what i forgot to say is i feel like in 3d games the X+ has much much better colors.....but for someone not useing it for games that is useless....
I love the One X + and would prefer to keep that.
I would suggest to have a look at Nexus 4 which could be of the same price levels or even better wait for a month and look at the new Nexus 4 which might be available by may.
On an the other context of a modern hardware, it is preferable to choose the latest generation hardware. The processor in One X+ and SGS 3 are definitely outdated on date
I bought the One X+ because of the 64 GB of storage. It also has no problems with .mkv files over 4 GB unlike most other phones.
I had the same doubt chose the HTC, just because i liked it more overall, also much better looking.
I had the same choice back in November. FWIW I'm on AT&T here in the US. I ended up with the HOX+ over the SGIII mostly based on just the feel in my hands. I prefer the more solid build of the HOX+ to the flimsier plastic on the SGIII. I'd still probably stick with that reasoning over the SG4 which just came out.
As for the Nexus 4, I chose the HOX+ mostly for storage and LTE. Although, looking back, I may have sprung for the Nexus 4 if I could do it again. The decrease in storage I'd deal with for the opportunity to run some AOSP, PA, and other original ROMs instead of just Sense based ones. In general, I'd probably go back and pick a phone with more developer activity than the HOX+. We have some excellent devs, like Lloir and solomon working on AOSP for the HOX+, but they are running into some roadblocks with the LTE radio. So in general, if dev support on XDA is important to you, and you'd like more than just Sense-based ROMS, i'd stay away from the HOX+.
If they release an updated Nexus 4 with LTE and 32GB storage, I'll probably sell my HOX+ and buy one.

Also, is there a reason you don't want the HTC One? Better screen, can get just as much storage, already getting great dev support, Ultrapixel camera, rave reviews...unless price is an issue there's not much reason to go with an HOX+ at this point.

When I started searching the models, the first thing I did was to check custom roms for Nexus 4, S3 and X+ LOL
Ofcousre for me it matters.
Moreover to be honest I left the thought of Nexus just for its internal space with no sd slot .....seriously sad for such a awesome device
Do you have any news for upcoming Nexus 4 with 32 gb?? I don't think they would ....atleast after the news for Nexus 5
Actually the reason for HTC one is price only  I can't afford that much.....news say it starts at 45k

HTC One Still Worth It?

Was looking since Amazon has the HTC One for .01 today, if it was worth it to purchase, I have a GS4 now, but thinking about selling it since I'm bored with it... the HTC One looked nice, just curious if Dev's and such disappeared or what happened =/
I think it's nice. I have them both. The gs4 and One. You can tinker around with the phone and turn it into a stock Google play edition. I still think the sense ui is the best though.

Thanks Jeff lots of devs around still?
Yes there are lots of devs. Especially if you look in the regular HTC one forums.

Oh so your not stuck with att HTC one builds that's a plus I know how to build so its not a big deal just trying to figure if I want to make the switch to the HTC one or sg4(which I have) on a diff carrier
Yea you can flash from both threads. Only problem I've seen is you need to be soff to flash the newer gpe builds. Which is really easy to do with rumrunner.

I love my HTC One. There are about 30 different Roms you can choose from. I am loving the Android Revolution HD Google Play Edition of Kitkat

Swapped my s4 mf3 for a One. But I'm hooked on CM/ASAP custom kernels etc..

I had to make this choice as well. I ended up trading my ATT Galaxy S4 for my HTC One, and I have no regrets about it. There isn't as much crap bloatware, since HTC really only added a few features to Android. Other than ATT's crap (which is easily gotten rid of) it's a pretty clean OS.
It's got an unlockable bootloader, unlike the ATT S4, so if custom ROMs are your thing, this phone is much better.
As a musician, music quality was important to me. The speaker literally made my jaw drop the first time I heard them. they aren't as good as a set of quality headphones, obviously, and I didn't expect that much. What I really didn't expect was the quality of the speakers and just how good they were. They sound better than those cheap 5 or 10 dollar headphones you can buy anywhere.
Sense UI, as I mentioned, is simple and easy. I personally have really enjoyed Blinkfeed. Zoe is great for pictures.
However, the camera on the S4 is superior in most aspects. I mean, it's 13 MP vs 4 MP (Ultrapixel). The HTC One's isnt BAD, but it isn't great either. It does very well in low light, though. I've taken several pictures of church services (we use a lot of lights and stuff like that) and they come out better on my HTC One than they did on my S4.
The Galaxy is also better in the battery life area. The 2600 mah battery on the S4 beats out the 2300 mah on the HTC One. This can be dealth with though, as I simply put my HTC One in power saver mode, which lowers the clock speed, dims the screen a bit, and tweaks a couple other things, and with regular use(probably 5 or 6 phone calls, texting all day, some gaming, and 2 or 3 hours on the internet) I still go to bed with about 30-40% battery every night.
So, if you want a simpler phone, and one that can be more easily customized and is better for multimedia consumption, I'd say the HTC One is your phone. If you're looking for a phone with features upon features (with a freaking 9GB system file partition) then stay with your S4.
Personally, I definitely love my HTC One way more than I ever did my S4
Running Omni 4.4 Kit Kat on HTC One and I would definitely recommend it and say it is worth it.
I agree with what everyone else has said. It is definitely worth it, and there is a lot of active development.
Do it.
I have only owned HTC phones since day one, my girlfriend has always had to have the Samsung S Whatever. I have played with both and can tell you that you will never regret buying the ONE. It's superior and looks like a man's phone. The S4 is good but the UI is full of smiley faces and bubbles. If you get a S4 you must change the Rom or get a purse to keep it in.

I got my HTC One 6 months ago (Black) and love this phone. The performance is blazing fast and keeps surprising me everyday, guess that's why i am not bored with it. Go for it, get a great rom and you will have fun.

Had this phone since it came out and by this time I would be craving for a newer phone, however none of the newer phones have sparked my interest over the One

Not worth it now because the HTC M8 is coming out/being announced in a matter of a month or two.

It is for me since my SGS II died a week ago and I need a replacement now. I just ordered the black one from Amazon today. For $30 +tax, it's a good deal. I just hope I won't be disappointed with the camera. I considered the Moto X, but the unlocking restrictions on AT&T turned me off to it (and the 16GB limit).
