Is there a fix or work around to the slow charging issue? If I use the stock charger and cable that came with the DNA I am fine, but my OEM Thunderbolt charger (which looks the same) and my car charger I got from Amazon (which I understand may be a knock off but had worked before on the DNA) or any other charger give me a slow charging notification.
This is a pretty big deal for me since I use my phone a lot for work. If I am in the car my phone is not charging fast enough to keep up with drain from the navigation.
I am rooted, s-off, twrp, and running Viper ROM 1.2.0. I understand HTC implemented this "feature" with the latest update. I couldn't find any info about a fix so are people just dealing with it?

You can flash a kernel like crpalmers or zarboz's kernels with fast charging implemented. But what I recommend is buying a USB charger that wont have that issue.
Take your phone somewhere that they have a Nexus 7 or Asus tablet set up on display with the regular charger hooked up.
They sell the chargers lots of places, the Nexus 7 will be best both spec wise and it comes with a pretty nice micros USB cable but I see the transformer prime charger in more places to walk in and purchase retail brick and mortar.They're solid chargers that will deliver the power your phone will allow. You just have to be careful when using it when charging with fast charging enabled it gets warm because it's running that current through their. The OEM charger only runs about 70% of the rated current through there.
Best Buy has a RocketFish 12volt car charger micro USB with an extra USB slot for a second USB cable and device. I almost never use car chargers but I was actually impressed with the quality of this charger. Also HotTips makes a charger that's rated at 5.0 amps and I believe as long as it's not a cheap crumby USB cable it will work fine. A lot of times it's the cable itself not the charger, so I would try taking your USB cable from home to work and plugging it up to that same USB charging plug and see if you get the same slow charging icon.
Thanks for the thorough response. I tried to do some testing combining different cables and charges and the only one that consistently gives me slow charging is the car charger (which worked fine previously). I have a Transformer Prime charger and Droid Razr charger that both worked fine. My Thunderbolt charger worked when I tried this time but has given me the slow charging notification in the past.
I may have to pick up one of the car chargers you mentioned because that is the most important. My phone is running great otherwise with Viper ROM and the kernel that comes with it so I'd rather not change it.

I believe that forces fast charge when connected to a computer via usb. Some people have said it may fry your usb port but I don't know how true that is.
Android phones in general charge slower when connected via car charger.

I ordered these cables from Amazon, got them today and I'm still getting slow charging from the car charger. These are really high quality and still not working. This is pretty ridiculous, HTC should have at least made this optional.
I posted on this a while back, its the cable that causes the issue. If you open up the cable and short the data wires it works perfect. All you needs is wire strippers, electrical tape and shrink tubing.

Thanks for the suggestion. The cables I bought are very high quality, charging specific cables, and I'm still getting slow charging in the car. If HTC only wants to support official OEM chargers that's fine, but then they need to make an official car charger!!
Also, why does HTC only support using the OEM charger when the DNA supports Qi charging? Doesn't make "Sense"

I tried that with the Rezound awhile back and afterwards it still registered as 'charging USB'(aka slow charging).
P.S. that Motorola charger I mentioned above, I opened one up before and noticed it just had the 2 power cables(black & white) and they were also much thicker then the standard cables w/ all 4 wires.
When I did my cable hacks I cut the cable in half, put a piece of shrink tubing on one end reconnected the power wires, shorted the data wires on both plugs. When you do this you cannot reconnect the data wires. They must be separated. I'll post some pics in a few to show you what I mean.

Basically this is what you want it to look like...connect the positive and negative, you can reconnect the shielding too. Also I highly recommend soldering the wires together. Adds strength.

You can do the cable hack shown in the post above as some non OEM chargers do not have the data wires shorted at the charger itself. You can either hack the cables, or if you need the cable for data, then modify your charger. Please make sure your charger is rated at least 800mA. Any charger rated 800mA or below will charge slow. Computer usb ports are rated 500mA and this is why it charges slow. My car's radio has a usb hook up and it also charges my phone at 500mA which is not enough if I'm calling, navigating, etc. The OEM charger is rated 1A. You can use a 2A charger as well but don't use it everyday. Higher rated chargers do charge the battery quicker, but at the expense of the long term battery life.

In my testing even shorting the chargers data pins on chargers seems to be more of a miss. I've done a few and even after shorting them they still state USB mode. It mainly stems from the data pins being present in the cable itself. Two of the chargers I shorted were for a vehicle and they were rated for 2.0 amps. Also if just charging the phone yes don't use high output chargers. But if charging in the car high output won't hurt if you are using navigation, music etc...it actually needs the higher output to charge hence needing to charge at the AC rate.

I have this issue as well now, I never had it till the update back in Feb. I used other Android phones on my car charger and they charge just fine and it only happens with my DNA. I think there is a firmware issue that is causing this to happen.
This afternoon I hacked a cable as shown above, to use with my car charger. I'm glad to report it worked like a champ and my phone went from slow car charging to very rapid charging.

Hey guys I'm looking for a car charger that will charge the phone while running google navigation. The current one I have cannot keep up. Basically the phone is using more battery than the charger is supplying so eventually even though it's charging it will die. Please help with some suggestions.
The higher the output amps the better, most online don't say.

You need to be careful about using one too high for the phone as well.
The output of the wall charger that comes with the phone is 1A. Find an USB car charger that outputs 1A and you should be fine.
This will run Pandora&Navigation at the same time and still charge,but not by much. But a least it doesn't discharge.

The phones are only meant to charge up so fast. once you attempt to go over that limit, you risk causing damage to your phone. don't look for something with so much power it charges it in 20 minutes. it will kill the phone and battery.

I doubt the phone will charge any faster even if you get a 2A charger, but there are many chargers that only charge the phone half as fast as you possibly could. Some chargers only provide 0.5A (500mA, conforming to the PC USB spec) and some 1A chargers will only provide 0.5A because of the pin out on the connector plug... You can tell this is happening if under battery stats in settings it says it's charging from USB instead of AC. You could short some pins on said chargers to fix that but it's usually easier to find a proper one for $3 or whatever.
Even if you have a 1A charger you could manage to discharge faster than it charges if you're streaming music while using navigation for a while and/or you happen to be in a low signal area (which eats battery like crazy since the radio goes wild trying to find a better signal/tower).
I have the one in the link below. It is OEM HTC for the Thunderbolt, and has
2x 1A Ports. It keeps up with
Pandora and GMaps. My old charger would not (it was 500mA.) The cool thing is that both ports are 1A in a small form factor, and it has a white LED that illuminates them. It comes with a coiled cord which is well built.

I get about 0 - 150ma normal with Google Navigation and Power Amp playing flacs

You have no idea what you are talking about. The rating indicates the maximum current the charger is capable of. The phone will decide how much to draw.
Actually, the high rating is not enough. The charger should have a certain circuitry ( a resistor between data pins) to "tell" phone that it can supply higher current. 2.1A iPad charger doesn't have it because it was designed to communicate with iGadgets. It will act like a regular 500mA charger when connected to an Android phone.
A lot of the 1amp chargers that you see will still only charge your phone at 500ma. Unless USB pins 2 and 3 are shorted together (or have less then 200 ohms between pins 2 and 3), the phone will think it's connecting to a computer and only draw 500ma. I modified a few 1amp chargers to actually charge at 1amp instead of 500ma. See this thread:

Are you SURE you're getting the right result with the Current Widget? There's been quite a few threads on this topic and it doesn't seem that the Current Widget correctly supports our phone. Per that widget, I'm getting 400ma current draw normally - without running any active apps. When I use various chargers, that number goes up or down seemingly at random, LOL.
My most powerful charger, which provides 2A on one port and 2.1 A on the other - makes the widget report only 35 mA.
In short - I wish there was an app that correctly measures current draw on our phone, but I haven't found one based on multiple threads on the topic.
I use Battery Monitor Widget. I definitely see the difference between 500mA and 1A chargers. Some current form the charger is consumed by the phone itself, so it is not possible measure the actual draw from the power supply without an external meter.

I have the one from Sprint with the AC adapter in it that pops out and it works well. Granted it was a bit pricey, but, it does the job and the battery does in fact charge while using telenav navigation and listening to music through the stereo as well. Slowly, but, at least it doesn't discharge while being charged....LOL...

I've seen/ heard a LOT of people who have that one and love it! Good choice with that one. I have a Motorola that also has a USB port in it and i little slide cover for the usb port when you're not using it, works great! I love it an highly recommend it. I charge my 3D and 4th Gen iPod Touch with it at the same time.

This is one of the few chargers that would power the Palm Touchstone reliably. There was an extensive thread at Pre Central on car chargers. Just make sure it's the SPN5400A like in the link above. Some other Motorola chargers have a lower output.
On the E3D it shows charging on AC.
I know we've already had threads about this before, but seeing as how no one ever had a solution to this issue i thought i'd check back in again and see.

The RZD is my second HTC phone and I've read mentions of these two different states of charging, but I've never noticed any indicator that I was getting anything other than an "AC" charge. That said, the OEM HTC car chargers supposedly supply a full 1A because the D+ and D- pins are shorted. I have one on the way and when I get it in a few days, I will report on my findings. Assuming that I can tell which mode my phone is charging in when I connect it.

Depending on what you are doing and how it is hooked up.
This is an easy fix and it should work on most chargers that have this problem.
I had this problem with the Griffin PowerJolt Dual Universal Micro that I bought for my TouchPro2. To fix it all you have to do is open up the housing (make sure you don't lose any parts, some are under tension and have the tendency to fly away) and solder together the two middle solder points on the usb connector. I have attached an image of what you should look for.Just make sure you do not accidentally solder to either pin 1 or 4 as they are the +V and -V. Once you solder the middle pins together you should be able to reassemble the charger and you phone should see it as an ac charger and will be able to charge faster. Let me know if this works for you.

i'll have to get another dongle and try that. what i did try was cutting open a micro USB cable and disconnecting the green & white cables(data), putting it back together and trying it out but then it still said "charging USB" and didn't seem to make a difference.

There are a lot of reviews from the above that say it still charges via USB only and not A/C. Seems hit or miss.
It may depend on how much power the charger supplies. Some may not give a full 1A and some dual charger may only give .5A per port.

I'm hoping I can navigate my phone's mp3s using my car stereo. I tried plugging it into the car's usb port that works for my ipod but it didn't read anything when I went to the usb tab on my car's screen.
I've ordered that Belkin charger based on your suggestion in the audio thread but haven't received it yet. Hoping that's what you're talking about and that I'll be able to see my mp3 library on my car's screen. Of course I suppose it depends on the audio system or car. I have a Gen 3 Prius with stock stereo that came with the navigation.

The charger is just for charging. Once you plug your usb cable into it you will not be connected to the stereo.
I use the charger for charging, the BT for the phone to car stereo, and the aux jack for listening to Audible books in the car. The nav I was refering to is the Google Maps for GPS navigation which outputs sound over my aux connection.

Okay, thanks. Doesn't look like I'll be seeing my phone's mp3 library on my car's navi screen.
I forgot to update this thread. I got the HTC CC C300 dual port charger and it does provide the juice for AC charging. Cruising down the road, it was pushing a little under 850mAh into my near-dead battery. The model number is 99H10128-00.

FYI, I bought this on your recommendation and it DOES NOT charge in AC mode with the Galaxy Nexus LTE.
UPDATE. I think I found the problem. There must be a variation in actual vehicle DC outlets. The Belkin and myTouch chargers mentioned in this thread both charge in AC mode in my wife's VW. They do not in my Ford F150. So basically its a crap shoot Good luck.

I am surprised no one has simply pointed out that a power inverter will do the job. They are perpetually at $15-$20 on NewEgg. It will give you an A/C plug, which you can then use to charge your phone at 1A.

Not sure if your post is meant to inform or complain, but his rec was posted in the Rezound accessories forum and that's the phone he confirmed it working on.
I just checked it on my Rezound in my Prius and it DOES charge in AC mode, so thanks Nils!

The AC charger included with the RZD and both of the car chargers that I posted push ~980mAh to my phone. Is a full 1A even possible?
An easier fix is to flash incredikernel and use the usb fast charge option.
Is there anything special about the USB cable and wall charger that came with the Atrix 4g?
The cable isn't long enough and I need to find one that is at least 6'.

Beware of other phone chargers with mini usb though. The atrix is much more greedy than my wife's lg clamshell and it won't charge from that charger. It turns on but never actually charges.

I got a generic one from [a national store] and it charges but locks up the phone while charging.
So apparently there are differences.
I've used the USB cable from an HTC, a Samsung, and a Blackberry. All worked fine. Take apart a cable and see what's inside of it - I think you'll find they're all the same.
Universal Serial Bus is a standard. In Europe that means that all USB wall chargers have to be more or less the same. I use an Amazon Kindle charger with my Atrix just fine. Have also previously used chargers from other Android devices, WP7 devices and Blackberries.
In short, you'll be fine.

Fair point, I did name the wrong connector. In my defense the USB guys do mess with their connector names and types all the time.
A charger with exactly the same plug (from an lg clamshell) failed to charge my atrix but did turn it on.

All proper chargers work fine on mine!
DON'T use cheap 1$ china chargers! They often have badly stabilized voltage and can even destroy your devices!
While on devices with proper stabilisation the voltage should look like the topmost graphic on this image (even under full load), on cheap devices it often looks like the one on the bottom, or something inbetween!
Also, some very cheap chargers allow the device to draw too much current, while grilling some internal components of the device. This could even start a fire!

For cables, you can use the cheapest! I never had a cable break in a way it could destroy anything besides itself, and I always buy cheap cables from www.dealextreme.com!
I can recommend this cable. Very solid build quality, better than most cables for 10€ around here!
Any of the usb wall chargers advertised for iPhones will work. I found an awesome one for my car by looking the in apple section at walmart.
I order nearly all cables from monoprice.com super duper cheap and they always work just fine. You can get a micro usb for less than a dollar.
I just use a chargers off monoprice. Super cheap adapter and cable.
My friend's galaxy charger fits, but does not charge properly. About 10% per hour.

Funny, my front-mounted USB ports (which put out just about 500mA) do a fine job for most devices including my Atrix. However, do not try to charge from dead via USB. For that you really need the full-power AC adapter. I use one from a previous phone at work (Samsung I think) and it charges in no time.
cable any micro USB cable will do. I have been using the cable that came with my kindle since I got the phone. The cable that came with my phone I think is in my car and the some random 3' cable in my bag for my computer. They all work fine. As for charging the computer and car USB is very slow as the only put out about 2.5 watts. The one that came with our phone puts out a little under 5 watts.
I always buy Monoprice cables. Although I have to admit the 1" micro usb cable I had been using from them seems to be broken as the cable will or will not charge depending on how its folded. But for the $1 or whatever I paid for it, it lasted a long time.

Almost forgot...I've been using the ipad wall charger. It's a 2amp charger and charges the phone extra fast. I've been meaning to look for car cigarette lighter to usb chargers that are intended for ipad so I can have that 2 amps available for any device.
Just for information.
I recently bought HTC Evo 3D for my wife and installed a self-made 5V/3A charger in her car. The charger converts 12V in-car to 5V/3A stable.
I immediately was stuck with a problem. Whenever I put her Evo 3D it charges nicely. But my Atrix don't.
I remembered there is something special in Atrix USB toward charging. I checked and found that adding 10K resistor between white (receive or transmit?) and red (+5V) wires let my Atrix charges as it should be.
10K resistor has no effect in HTC.
From what I know it is just a standard Micro USB, the usb to outlet adapter, I am not sure, but it looks like a fairly standard device.

I just posted this in my other thread Information on charging the note, but that thread is really lengthy and I thought this was worth mentioning in its own thread for anyone who might be looking for a good car charger, but doesn't want to read 8 pages of other information.
I had been looking for good one, and started with the motorola charger that I've seen recommended a few times. It's cheap, nicely made, and does have the data pins shorted, but for me, it didn't meet my needs because when using GPS in the car. With the screen on, the phone actually discharged and did not charge. It discharged at about 6% per hour. This is not surprising because when measured, it does not put out the max current that the note can accept (it puts out about 850mA of charging current via my measurements).This charger, on the other hand, puts out the max charging current your note can take (1000mA). I have verified this. When using GPS with the screen on, on my note at least, it actually charges the phone at a rate of ~3%/hour instead of discharging. It will even charge the phone if you are using GPS + screen on + also streaming music (ie pandora). That 150mA difference may not seem like much, but for me, it's the difference between discharging or actually charging the phone while using GPS.
A couple of notes... this charger does not come with a cable, so you'll need a generic usb type a to mirco usb cable. Nothing special is needed in the cable... you can get a "charge only" or a data version, any cable will be fine. Amazon has some very inexpensive ones with low shipping costs if you search. There are two ports on the charger, clearly marked on the charger itself, a 1A port and a 2A port. The 2A port will NOT charge your note at the AC charge rate as the data pins are not shorted -- it will charge at 500mA, and your phone WILL discharge instead of charge if you are using this port with GPS, etc. So ignore the 2A port unless you have an iDevice you want to charge with it. The 1A port, however, WILL charge your note at the AC charge rate, and DOES put out the rated 1A. This is the port you want to be using for your Note.
So, if anyone is looking for a good charger for the car, that's it. The only negative thing I have to say about it (so far) is that it is a little bit wobbly once seated in the cigarette lighter. Not enough to come out or cause any problems or anything, but enough to be annoying (to me). Nothing a little electrical tape (or any tape) can't fix quickly and easily, though, if it bothers you enough.

i purchased the car dock made specifically for this phone from samsung and it is awesome. phone snaps right into place, dock has a connector built in and comes with a charger. Suction cup has never fell off the window and the whole thing is very sturdy. the note looks awesome mounted in the truck above the in dash navigation and works great with ford sync
Personally I like the Motorola Chargers as they have a nice wound cord, although they only charge one device.

That is the other charger I was talking about that is not nearly as good as the one I'm suggesting. With that charger, if you use GPS while the screen is on, your battery will discharge instead of charge. Even without GPS or the screen on, in the best case scenario, it will still charge slower than the one I've recommended. If you're OK with that, then yes I suppose it's an OK charger. It's cheap, looks pretty cool, and seems well built. But for my needs for a charger, I need a) the fastest charger available, and b) for a car charger, I need one that lets me use the GPS on my phone without losing battery life. That's why I searched and found the one I'm recommending.
I personally hate the wound cord because it puts tension on the phone if you try to use it beyond the wound range (which I almost always seem to do), but that's a totally personal preference. The cord is always fighting me when I'm typing on my phone while driving (Not that I do that )

WHAT? Nonsense. First off, the phone is not going to draw more than 1A, and that is a 1A charger. Second, with the big screen on this thing at high power with GPS it's not too surprising if it just maintains its current charge, but in my week of owning my Note I know it does charge while it's on it, and my Nexus One charged on it just fine.
And the cord is very long, not sure where you're plugging your phone in..
OP said he tested the Motorola charger and it only put out 850mA, not 1A. Another poster in a different thread mentioned that his phone still discharged while using that specific car charger as well. So with heavy use it looks like it is possible for the phone to still discharge with the Motorola charger.
Thanks for the info. Had a Verizon car charger for my defunct droid razr and wasn't giving out enough juice to keep the Note running. Heck, it wasn't even able to keep the droid running.
Will look into the ones mentioned here.

I'm not saying the the phone is drawing more than 1A. I'm saying that the motorola charger does not provide the full 950mA it claims (only provides 850mA), and this one I'm recommeding DOES put out the full 1A it claims. Either way, though, there's one thing I know for sure: the one I've recommended above charges faster than the motorola one, and allows your phone to charge in some scenarios where the motorola one does not. It is a better charger, from the aspect of actually charging the phone. The motorola charger might be fine for a lot of people. 850mA is still a good rate of charge, but unfortunately is just shy of being able to maintain or actually increase the state of charge of your note's battery under a common (for a lot of people) scenario in the car -- using the GPS with the screen on. If, however, the motorola charger is working perfectly for you, that's great. I don't care if you buy the other charger or not, I have no affiliation with the company or amazon or anything, I'm just providing the data so everyone can make an informed decision.
The wound cord thing is totally personal preference, I'm not gonna argue that one way or another.

Yes, I use this one...for making sure my Note is charged whilst using the Note's GPS on my motorcycle.
Works great!!
Since I already have a power inverter I'm going to get the Blackberry Premium 1.8A charger for my note. Even though I carry 2 extra OEM batteries I still need all the power I can get.

Just FYI I cannot confirm that this charger has the data lines shorted, so you may not charge at the full ac charge rate. Just because it says 1.8A doesn't mean anything. If it does not short the data lines, it will charge at 500mA (half the rate of the OEM AC charger), whether it's rated at 1A, 1.8A, or 1,000,000A.. Sorry if you already knew this, I just don't want any more people getting confused thinking that as long as the charger says it's rated at 1A+ that they will be charging at the full 1A. This is not the case with our Notes (or most/all? Samsung phones). No charger can or will charge faster than your OEM charger, unless your OEM charger is defective. The speed can only be matched, not exceeded.
Here's a scenario using the Motorola charger that is baffling me. I agree with the OP...using my Note with GPS and playing mp3 music at the same time does discharge the oem battery at a slow rate. But if I follow the same scenario, but use a cheap Hyperion 2600mah battery in place of the Samsung oem battery, it actually charges during use! Not fast, only about 3% an hour, but that beats a discharge situation! Why is this?

Great informative post OP! Thanks! I was actually looking into this yesterday and your post is exactly correct. I currently have two Motorola chargers and yup, the Note discharges when using the GPS. I was looking into a new charger and ordered the exact same one you mentioned (in white).
What is surprising to me though is how you mentioned the 2A plug will not output the proper amp, so I have to use the 1A port instead? Do you know why they made it this way? It is just weird how they designed it.

Yes I already know this. I can always return the charger if it does not work properly. Also last night, I tested an OEM HTC charger that came with my older HTC Desire Z and it outputs exactly as the OEM Samsung Note charger. I used your command line in Terminal Emulator.
Got it today. Wow it charges fast.

OK I was wrong it does not charge faster. It actually allowed my battery to drain at about 1% per 4 minutes, during driving. I DID NOT USE PORT 1A. Will try 1A tomorrow.

Thanks for this. Will be ordering the PowerGen. Just got back from a trip to Chicago from Ohio and left with 100% and arrived with 70%. Figured the charger just wasnt putting out enough power.
Now I just need a good adjustable windshield mount that will accept my phone with a case on it!

I ordered a couple extra adapters from the Satechi website to throw in my laptop bag to rapid charge over the USB 3.0 port and one for my wife's car. Now she can rapid charge her captivate with the high current car charger finally.

Not 500ma charger
I have this http://www.siig.com/3-1a-dual-usb-car-charger.html and it doesnt charge my Note 3 at all. It just keeps it at the same charge, and shows up as USB under battery settings when plugged in
Then I bought this http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Po...05&sr=8-4&keywords=kensington+4.2+car+charger and for some reason one port shows up as AC charging and the other as USB. Its supposed to be two identical 2.1 amp ports, so why that is happening is beyond me.
Can someone please recommend an app that works well withe the Note 3 to measure current?
Can someone please recommend something that will actually work? I basically want a charger (for car) that can charge my Note3 and my wife's, at the same time, at least at the same speed my OEM charger that came with the phone does.

I don't have the GN3, but a GN2. I have and use Ventev 4.2A rapid car charger. You may want to try it. It works well with my GN2. What's nice about it, both ports are 2.1A 5V. I was hoping it would charge my GN2 and ASUS Infinity Pad tablet at the same time, but the tablet needed 15V. Thus, it's end up being trickle charger for the tablet, but does slow down the battery drain.
And it's pretty cheap. Seems solidly build. I also have the wall charger unit and works well too. It may just do the trick.

I didn't look at your second link. I thought you were looking for suggestions on a charger that could charge two GN3 quickly. I'm still a bit annoyed with many andriod 10" tablets needing 15V to charge. I have car cigarette power inverter with a AC plug outlet and two USB ports (2.1 and 1.0) that I can use that will charge my tablet quickly.

Well you are correct in that I am looking for suggestions, but since the charger you posted about is identical to what I bought, I'm wondering why the one I bought isn't working as intended. Hopefully somebody can chime in. Could it be that the Kensington isn't actually 5 volts ?

Galaxy Charging Current Lite
There's also a Pro version for $0.99 as well. I use the free version and it works just fine, but there are ads, but that's expected from a "Lite" version of an app.
Thank you for the app recommendation. It has been helping. So here are some results.:
Using Kensington adapter, I get 350mah on both USB ports using a regular micro USB 2.0 cheapo cable I picked up at Frys for 2 bucks. Using another cheapo cable but this time 3.0, I get 1200 mah in one port and 450 in another.
Any ideas?

Try using OEM cables or at least high quality 3rd party cables. I ran into an issue with note 2 where my third party cables only charged at 250mah. When I got a replacement it jumped up drastically. Also car will be different than house wall outlet. Compare both.

Well i did compare it and like I said above I got 1200mah on both OEM house charger and the Kensington adapter in the car with USB 3.0 cable. Is it really possible my OEM house charger is only drawing 1200 mah? It makes me feel like the app isnt really working

I had the same problem at first. Then looking at others forums and checking out my own phone I realized that the phone only charges at 1200mah while the screen is on no matter what chargers or cables you use. When the screen is off then is charges at 1800mah like normal. Samsung built this into the phone and I have no idea why.. I have noticed that the Y-CHARGE 4.2 Dual USB Car Charger charges two devices at 2.1amps each. I've tested both ports and they are good. http://www.tylt.com/y-charge-4-2/ Thats the link. When I had my issues I ended up averaging 1800 mAH on an oem. I used the Galaxy Charging Lite app as well. (Edit: just realizedthat's what you used too)
Just in case, you may wanna try another app. Usually the apps just measure the input based on what software tells them so there is a bit of inaccuracy but not enough to be way wrong. Truest test is an amperage meter or something like that. But 1800 on Wall adapter sounds right bad on a micro usb (2.0), I haven't tested usb 3.0 but it should be higher I would think.

Just to be sure, you tested both ports using a note 3 and you actually got 2100mah readings in the app?

This is my limited understanding that comes from researching this myself....
USB has 4 pins that our phones care about. The 5v+, 5V-, Data + and Data -. The 5V pins charge the phone. The Data pins tell the phone what rate to charge at. I believe it is specifically the voltage the phone senses on the data pins. There are some DIY mods out there to use resisters to change this and force a higher or lower charge rate. Those mods were a bit out of my comfort zone so I just skimmed them.
Also, Apple and Android do this differently in some way and most high voltage chargers have iphone and android specific ports because of this (whether they are labeled or not). The Anker car charger I got does this. I don't know of a reliable high amp car charger that has two "android" specific ports. I have tested the Android specific port and it seems to charge at the same rate as the wall charger that came with the phone. I will try and make time to test the "iphone" specific port on my Anker charger to see what mah I get and if there really is an appreciable difference.

If it is not too much trouble, can you download the galaxy current lite app and tell me how many mah you are getting in your house charger and how many mah you are getting in your Anker Android port? Also, I'm assuming you got a Note 3?

The app will tell you 1200 if your screen is on - after is been plugged in, make sure your screen is turned off, then quickly pull up the app after you turn your screen on and it will show 1800

I bought a dual outlet 4.2amp charger at big lots (got 4 of them actually on sale $10 a pop) that is 2.1 amps per outlet. I use samsung cables with it and my note 3 charges are full speed no problem.
I would just bypass all this and get an inverter for the car and run the OEM charger... takes out all the guesswork and charges exactly the way you are expecting.
Example... turns your cars 12vDC into 120vAC
