[Q] [Huge HELP needed] XMP orange FW - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello all,
I have Sk17i with 2.3.4 ORANGE firmware, which doesn't allow update to ICS and/or even root. Also, it says, that my bootloader can't be unlocked, so I can't flash other ROM manually. I was looking in this forum something similar but didn't find anything, so I started this topic. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL HELP ME :crying:

I doubt you understood me corectlly.. I can't upgrade it with sony companion or update center, because it says, that phone is up to date. I can't update it by flashing it, because my bootloader is locked. I can't unlock my bootloader because my phone says that is not allowed.

U cant flash ftf file using flashtool eventho ur on locked bootloader.

If you think nothing can be done why start the thread, and given that you don't know what you're doing I suggest you READ the links before replying again.

You can flash official ICS .ftf on orange locked bootloader phones using flashtool just fine. I did it a few months ago when I still had locked BL (unlocked it later thanks to WotanServer). I wouldn't recommend updating your phone to ICS if you're a gamer. ICS from sony is a bit slow and honestly I think it's better to stay on GB when you've got locked BL.

[Q] how to update xperia neo with 2.3.4 from other countries

Hi,
I bought xperia neo having 2.3.3 from UK. I am now in India and would like to update my phone with 2.3.4 to avail new features.
Since I am new to android mobile, and my pcc doesn't show the update for 2.3.4 from India, I would like to know any alternate steps to update my phone with 2.3.4
I am not aware of what is flashing etc..
Could anybody please help me in providing step by step procedure to do so.
This will be a great help for people like me.
Thanks & Regards,
sridhar.
You should be able to just flash a .ftf file (look at the development section) with a application called flashtool.
This should also be helpful.
Here's the .ftf and other instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269724
Hello,
You can aso use WotanServer to simply flash the latest 2.3.4 firmware
Update via wotanserver or via flashtool....BUT NOT via OTA(over the air) ....i recommend that
confused
Hi,
Thank you guys for your quick reply. Since I am new to all these (flash tool , ftf , wonton server/client) I am bit confused with actual steps.
Could any body please provide me exact steps.
I have downloaded .ftf file and wontonclient.exe as of now.
or the alternate one.

The only 2.3.4 firmware is a Nordic one ( that i could see ).
Do we use that one?
chill............
Yes, no problems, you can easily flash for example a french firmware in a chinese phone, there is no danger
The firmwares are different only with the integrated apps, and some little functions also change.
I am currently not rooted, so does this affect doing the update?
Also would I be able to do the Official UK update when that becomes available if I needed too?
thanks

No problems if the phone's not rooted. And you're right for the UK firmware. You just have to wait that it will be availlable with WotanClient.
Just an advice : when you'll have the 2.3.4 version installed, don't downgrade to a 2.3.2 version if you want to root it (otherwise the phone will have a serious battery issue)!
To root the phone just use the rootxperia.zip method with an unlocked bootloader
You won't be able to use rootxperia without first unlocking your bootloader, you can get alejandrissimo to help you with this I got a neo that has 2.3.4, rooted and unlocked bootloader now and am happy with it but yes with the downgrade, don't do it or your battery will have problems (0%) and there is no fix (yet) [email protected] <- can help you out with the unlocking of the bootloader.

That unfortunately doesn't work for carrier branded devices, even if they are desimlocked
Then alejandrissimo could help people unlocking the bootloader
I've unlocked the bootloader on carrier based SE phones using the SE site... it's the SIM lock that is the problem. Branded phones that have been SIM unlocked are OK.
The reason I could not use Sony's method is it didn't work for my phone which I got carrier locked. That's why I went the alternative method. and prob why other people have to do the same.

Root and OC

Hi, I will have SE Xperia Neo V, and I have 2 questions:
1. Root - I update my phone SEUS and I want to root my xperia. How to do it? am looking for an easy way.
2. OC - I wanted to speed up the phone using OC and Smartass v2. How is the easiest way to upload?
In both cases I will not unblock the bootloader! Must stay stock rom and kernel, only OC and root will be in my phone.
Please help me.
Sorry for english, google translator help me

About rooting we have many noob tutorials.
OC you get only with unlocked bootloader.

Yes. Unlocking and relocking giving you OFFICAL updates.
And with OTA, SEUS and PC Companion I will be can update after relock?
And I will be update Neo V to official 4.0 and and it is important to me
I recommend use Flashtool!!
:/
No, only SEUS, OTA, PC Companion, official ICS will be first in this, in flashtool later...
!
So, I will be can update my phone via PC Companion, SEUS and OTA after relock bootloader? I use Sony Ericsson official method.

To be honest not sure about ota but pc comp. and seus will work. ota should work 99%.
locked or unlocked your still going to get it but probably before with unlocked boot loader because carrers will still need to push update not that's what's going to take the time

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro Questions

Hello
Just purchased a SK17i Xperia Mini Pro Black Version that is locked to 02 (UK network). I am obvously new to all this stuff but do have a basic understanding but here are some questions:
1) I am thinking of waiting until Android 4.0 is Officially released by SE to update my phone (btw, anyone know when the update is coming). Was wondering when I update will I still be able to root my phone?
2) When I root (if I can) I want to install Set CPU to overclock my phone. However I have heard this drains batteries? Is this true and if so how can I make my phone faster?
3) I need to unlock my phone. Can this be done for free after rooting? If not, can someone link me to the cheapest place I can get this unlocked from?
Thanks in advance to anyone that answers
Hey dude,welcome to XMP family.
1)According to Xperia Blog,XMP will get the ICS update in the end of May or early June, after the first wave for arcS,neoV and ray.I don't know whether we can root it on official ICS or not,but I think to get a rooted phone is easy once you unlock the bootloader, and besides, there are so many developers here.
2)When it comes to overclocking, apparently it would cause battery drain faster. But with my experience,I hardly feel its difference on SE stock Rom.As for custom rom like FXP's,which I has used for a while,it drains about 2~3% per hour while idle(drop speed is two times than stock.)
3)Certainly you can unlock your phone for free, see this thread & tutorial. But it should be noticed that once you unlock it then you may invalidate your warranty.
Mine is on FXP CM9(ICS) and it's kind of laggy, but I can't tell it's because of the ICS rom or existed bugs.As SE said,we may not have the same experience like Gingerbread if we update to ICS.

Hello mate, thanks for the great post
I think I will leave stock ROM once updated actually, seems to be running fine atm as it is.
I think I will still update to the official ICS when it comes out as does look worth it.
Just about no. 3) I think your talking about after rooting, the process to get custom ROMs by unlocking the bootloader? I was talking about the network? lol
Unless I'm mistaken?

There is no way to get your phone unlocked from a network for free but WontanServer offers an unlocking for $15. You can try that out. Just type WontanServer in Google and click the 1st link. WontanServer is legit and won't steal your money
Though as a warning you might not be able to update to ICS as it also might unlock your bootloader. Just double check, as I am not 100% sure. Also it will void your warranty

He meant that the Wotanserver network-unlock method might unlock your bootloader (which it does). This bootloader unlock, whilst giving you access to custom ROMs etc, might not behave with official SONY updates (such as ICS) - I'd link you for proof but I'm not allowed to due to my low post count .
Also, Google 'Omnius Unlock'. They will unlock your phone for free over the next few days (Easter promotion). I'm not sure how reputable those guys are though so you'll want to check.
Thanks for that Omnius Lock thing, looks great and will check it out
So, if I unlock it I may be unable to upgrade to 4.0? That is a bit stupid to say the least? Anyone on an Xperia that was unlocked then ugraded to 4.0? Did it become locked again?

If your phone's bootloader is unlocked you can not recieve any official update through Sony as it will brick your phone but you can install a ICS ROM.

Well I'm not sure about 'stupid', you'll have to weigh it up. If you look in the development section, there's already a very useable version of ICS (look for MiniCMSanwich), which is potentially better than Sony's bloatware-infused and themed version (not to mention probably unrootable) due in a couple of months.
I think it's mainly FOTA bricks that happen (over-the air updating from Sony), and some bootloader unlocks allow for this by just patching the bootloader to make it seem unlocked (any SETool unlock will do this). So there are a number of options.
Be careful also of some bootloader methods stripping the DRM keys, these are used by Sony services like TrackID, which will cease to work (permanently) following a bootloader unlock.
Edit: There's a distinct difference between a network unlock and a bootloader unlock, the former will nearly always also execute the latter, but the latter can be done by itself (obviously only on unbranded phones). The method of getting a custom ROM is basically network unlock > bootloader unlock > root > install custom kernel > install custom ROM. Root can be done before the unlocks, I believe.
I'm new to all this too, only trying to explain because I know how much of a total pain it was to work it all out .

It is the same unlock method, just everything brought to one place by that app maker.
Rooting your phone before custom ROM installation is not needed, because old ROM(stock) gets deleted anyway and custom ROMs include root already.

Need help to relock BL, Install stock rom & Kernel as Yellow tint issue

Hi All,
Recently got an xperia s, and to be honest been having a few issues with it, i.e memory probs connecting to pc, and yellow tint on screen.
Stupidly prior to checking everything as always I jumped and unlocked the BL, and installed a custom kernel and rom, XSX and K10 ICS.
I had also prior to this updated to ICS via sony. Problem is now I realised that it has the yellow tint at the bottom of the screen so prior to sending it back to sony I want to relock BL and install stock ICS again and stock kernel.
Please can someone show me a link to this I'm in UK and have a factory unlocked version, I have tried to search but I am confused to which one I need, I also cannot find any kernel.
Finally they are all FTF files and I need to be in Flashmode to use these, unfortunately for some reason my phone will not stay in flashmode green light for more than a few minutes and it just boots up so I dont want to start flashing only for it to stop in between and brick my phone any ideas?.
BTW I managed to install fastboot drivers in windows 8 I know some people had problems in windows 7 & 8, I found a solution if anyone needs
Thanks
Mav.
So simple ^^
1st You need to relock your BL via Flashtool by using This http://j.mp/xps_relock
From here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
And when it's done, just update your phone normally via SEUS (Sony Update Service)

Thanks jvsykes,
I thought that you had to first have a stock kernel installed prior to relocking your BL otherwise it would brick your phone, I read it somewhere, I would prefer to have a stock kernel and stock firmware then relock the BL, then possibly put it through SEUS to make sure everything is right.
you dont need to relock the BL for yellow tint issue, the custom roms have nothing to do with it, ive sent my phone back twice unlocked bl and custom fw and its been fixed twice without question

Dont really want to risk sending away if BL is locked anarchyuk, although i know by right they should fix it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752864&highlight=6+1+a+0+452+generic+uk
http://www.multiupload.hk/Z97BXEH24E
its a uk generic [6.0.A.3.75]
I can flash this, then relock BL, then use SEUS to update to stock 6.1.A.4.52
Does that seem correct?, or will I have probs?
Also the file I would be using to relock BL is called X10_V1_BLRelock.ftf is this correct?
Thanks

Reflash the stock firmware then the bootloader lock. Also look in development section for Xperia s Relock. It is called that not the X10 one.

OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 for rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader

I have a rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader, by following instructions on this thread.
Today I received a notification about OTA update to 6.1.A.2.45 (40MB in size) and I was wondering if I can apply this update without loosing root. I really did search for an answer on the forum before making this post and couldn't find anything specific for my phone, but what I did found only confused me more, which is to be expected since I am a noob. Apparently it worked for some users of Xperia Play with unlocked bootloader, but on the other hand some users of Xperia Arc S say that bootloader should be locked when making an OTA update.
I would really appreciate any help from more experienced members, I'm new in Android and don't want to start by bricking my phone.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Boom
better dont, you will end up with a bricked device. NEVER accept OTA updates if your bootloader is unlocked.
Don't update with PCC when you're unlocked.
Wow, that was fast! Thank you guys.
hi, did you find how to update?

i also have an open bootloader although not root, but i tried updating using the phone's OTA and PCC and neither worked. I promptly realized it might just be the open bootloader which is keeping me from updating, so how do we manually update? if you have any procedures will highly appreciate anyone..... thanks in advance

You can find your regions FW. (firmware) and download it, after that download and install flashtool, and flash the .ftf file via flashtool and that is it.
thanks for the quick reply

Im going to engage in a rather noobish conversation but i want to be completely sure before i proceed to install. my phone and my pc companion both find the update which is 6.1.a.2.45, which i assume is the one i need to find on .ftf. after downloading it from wherever i find it i just open the flash tool program and select it to start the installation? and again thank you

i did a fast search and found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31011440#post31011440
they have some firmwares there, but they seem to be full updates, because they are 300+mb while the update on my phone its only 40mb.
so should i just download the generic and proceed to flash?

Hmmm,
Slightly different scenario here.
I have a rooted xperia S with a locked bootloader and obviously want to preserve root.
Previous experience tells me that a PC update from SEUS does a full wipe of the phone and looses root however OTA updates usually preserve root. I was hoping somebody could clarify if this is still the case?
Thanks
if your bootloaders unlocked you cant update ota or via seus. it will just give an error about your device being modified

same question as you, i have a rogers xperia s with a stock uk rom, it's rooted but bootloader is still locked. Just want to make sure that i don't loose root, or the root method can still be applied after the update.
i found something which might help you

there is a rom somewhere in another forum i guess which already is updated and rooted. so you might want to just download that one and flash it. it has its own kernel and recovery.

I thought you could not use pre rooted rom with a locked bootloader.

I've not been on much recently at all so I could be wrong, but I'm sure it's been said that you can flash ROM such as the linked one when bootloader is locked and perhaps the pre-rooted one too. May need to search the thread.
Nothing out there that allows me to root my Xperia S on ICS without wiping my data though I think. One can wait... or dream. :[

Yeah having too wipe at this point is a bummer. If I'm going to wipe my phone ill wait for the ability to unlock my locked bootloader.
Problem with that is I will most likely have a new phone by then.
