Something else to consider...don't crack the screen - AT&T HTC One (M7)

http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+Teardown/13494/1
Just read this report from ifixit. They say it gets the worse repairability score ever! This means it will be nearly impossible to repair if you crack the screen and you'll have to keep insurance on this beast. I fix phones all the time so this is important to me. I feel it affects the long term value of the phone. HTC is making phones that look really good no the outside but the inside is designed to be a disposable device. I've got a problem with that. How do you guys feel about this?

You're really late.... There are other topics about this already.

What screws? They got the screen off and then a layer of foam padding, then found no other way to get the PCB and everything else out without pulling it out and damaging some of the plastic seating in the process.

Yea, they really jacked that phone up. I can't wait to get my hands on one and try it the right way. But it still looks daunting.

Sticky? Stuff on my screen

I'm not sure what it is, or if it's like a protectant layer that's wearing off.
But it's only in the lower half of the screen towards the middle.
It covers almost the whole bottom half, it looks like something splattered on it. But I can get it off with anything, I tried water, eyeglass cleaner, and Window cleaner.
It's really annoying I can feel the difference when I try to slide my finger across.
It's all fine when I clean it, it looks perfectly fine. But when I slide my thumb across is shows up.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
Edit..sorry
Didn't mean to hit reply..lol
did you happen to be in the bathroom with a inappropriate picture on the screen?
if so thats where the sticky substance came from... lol
I figured there would be one person...
But no, it's like there's a protective coating onto of the screen and it's like wearing in on area.
It just won't clean off.

Lmao! Try using rubbing alcohol
Sent from my Triumph using XDA
Yeah, I was thinking about it. I'll have to try it later.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
It should lift it as the alcohol evaporates... and I would only recommend alcohol so if any gets in the device it won't hurt it
Sent from my Triumph using XDA
It is actually the oil repellent(or something like that) coating, unfortunately, it is irreversible unless you get it painted again I guess, or replace the screen. your best bet is put on a screen protector.
This happened to BOTH of my previous android phones, Acer Liquid (happened really quickly because the screen is not very sensitive), Atrix (device too fast, so I browse the web on it too much so it has worn off too)
Moved on to HTC Amaze, I guess it is just the same, I better put a screen protector on first...
One question though, did you ever use screen protector? Both of my previous devices did, I wonder if they take a thin layer off when you peel them off....
Well I bought my phone used so I'm not sure.
The alcohol didn't work, so I'm pretty sure it's the coating...
Time to get a screen protector.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
Well I can't really tell...
It almost acts like it's coming off, I can't really feel it anymore and I can only see it when I purposefully get my screen dirty. But it looks like something was smeared on it and half of it came off and it's in a hole bunch of little dots and globs.
Is this what yours looked like morris?
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA
not sure but you might try DRM'ing the phone through tmobile just not sure what their policy is on doing it to a phone you got from someone else . . would think you still could though
Well I bought it used, and I'm on a prepaid plan.

Haha, but really I'm thinking that my battery was getting really hot or something and it melted it or something. Or some type of chemical reaction between it and all of the oils I have on my hands while I'm at work. I work at a machine shop, and there's always different types of coolant and oil

Hairline cracks

So i know there is a topic for this but no traffic on it lately. Anyways i just noticed 2 cracks on mine. Has anybody else contacted samsung on this issue.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
In that thread I think they did. I have one too! Crappy dock made one right around the charger so I can't blame Sammy.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717
I haven't noticed any yet, knock on, wood.... Mines white and I have had it for about 2 months
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I've got one also right at the charging port....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Mine is above the speaker and the other is along the right side. Samsung told me its not a known issue. Then they tried troubleshooting it and telling me to remove the battery to see if that fixes it. Lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
So you know there is a thread and you started another one anyway? You said no recent traffic... Had you posted there it would have spooled back to the top of the list... Dude, really? /rant
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
On my second Note now. I exchanged the first one for a crack about an inch or two below the power button. The replacement has now developed a crack right at the power button.
So Samsung can say whatever they want about it not being a known issue - but it is an issue. Knock on wood ... my Note has never been dropped, I don't sit on it, and it's treated like it's a 5" piece of glass (which it is).
I got 3 cracks actually...one right on top of the speaker, one right where the power button is, and one right underneath the home button. Idk if these are really cosmetic flaws by Sammy...cos then again i ten to drop my phone all the time lol...Ofcourse it's always been in its folio leather wallet case so it shouldn't have hurt it that much.

Anybody have a creaky phone?

I'm loving my phone. The only thing I noticed is that if I squeeze the phone on the right side towards the upper end of the screen I can hear a little sound and can barely feel some movement where the rounded part meets the rear glass. Anyone else have this? I'm not used to any parts moving since always using iPhones for years now.....until I decided I had to get the LGOG.

Mine feels sturdy and I don't hear any noise. No moving parts.
You may want to get your phone exchanged. Or stop squeezing it so hard.
I agree. Mine just feels like one big smooth hunk of glass. No give to even remotely allow a creek.

Noticed this as well, but only when pressing against a certain spot. Specifically, when holding the phone's edges & pressing directly in the center of the back of the phone. Also, it's sporadic, so I'm not worried about it.

My squeaky spot is in the upper left part of the phone. I notched it last month, but I think it had something to do with battery cover more than the phone itself. I funny think it'll cause any real issues do I'll keep ignoring it until the whole thing falls apart.

Feels solid. No creaks here, but rattling when shaken is definitely there. And the rattling comes from the physical buttons.
As I wrote in a different thread, my phone's build quality is superb except for the cheap feeling and somewhat loose physical buttons.

Mine rattles from the vol button.
It's not a big deal to me since I'll put a case on it eventually.
I actually woke my wife from her slumber last night handling my phone. The creaking is really getting loud. If I touch my phone anywhere near the power button, you would think something is going to break. I wish there was a way to fix it. Maybe a well placed drop of super glue would do it. I don't know, I'm too scared I would mess something up.

Used one of the youtube vids for dis-assembly. Re-assembly is basically just the same steps in reverse. The most difficult part was lining up the placement of the digitizer on the LCD. If you don't get this right, the screen will not fit properly. I had to somewhat set the pieces together all in place loosely to get the alignment right (lcd sitting in the slot with the digitizer somewhat in place in the front bezel), and then take them apart and secure them together better to ensure a proper fit if that makes sense. My first try - lining thing up by eye - was not quite right. I used some 3M 2mm adhesive I ordered along with the tools. Taking the digitizer off is a bear, it takes quite a bit of patience and a bit of force. Reseating the cables is also a pain, use the plastic pry tool to help reseat, and have LOTs of patience during the whole process. Make sure to give yourself a solid hour or more. I just broke my second screen today with a beer bottle of all things, so I'll have to redo this whole process here shortly. Also make sure the front of the LCD and back of the digitizer are very clean, and the adhesive is lined up properly and not blocking sensors. I didn't do this well, and have a slight bit of adhesive sticking out the bottom side about 1mm into the visible area of the LCD, and the back of the digitizer is noticeably "gunky" in the front camera region, which I think is also causing some issues I'm having with the front proximity sensor. Hopefully I'll do a better job this next time. Good luck!

...any recommendations of what type of phone repair shop I should look into? I went to an iPhone based, but "smartphone" capable repair shop and he definitely didn't know what to do. I've seen a couple places online that you can send your phone to and they'll replace the screen and ship it back to you within a few days. Never tried a site like that tho and could be kinda sketchy but that's an option. Also here in Albuquerque there are tons of Craigslist ads for screen replacement here in town so you could check your city's page and see what you find.

I did this very thing last week successfully with no problems. Follow the repair video by repair universe on YouTube to the letter and you will do just fine. The key is to take your time and make sure the phone is heated enough with the hair dryer or heat gun to ensure that the adhesive comes apart smoothly. Take extra special precaution not to crack the LCD screen when removing the glass (digitizer) from it
If you're not willing to take the chance, you could always send it to me (for free) but I can't guarantee a flawless victory

I see what you did there...
If you decide to repair your screen yourself, there are also four transparent pieces of plastic that you need to put on the new screen.
They are for the capacitive buttons, so they redirect the light from the lights on the motherboard to the buttons.
Unless you don't want lights, of course. (I forgot to put them on mine lol, but I don't mind having no lights)
Also, when you put it back together, make sure to seal it very well on the outside so water doesn't get in and screw up the digitizer. You may have to use glue or something else as a sealant.
Every time it rains, my digitizer gets messed up from water getting in. (crossing my fingers for no permanent damage)

Does your Xperia Z Ultra creek?

Hey guys
I wanted to test the build quality of my phone so I took it out of the case. Amd grabbed it from both sides and slightly flexed it
It makes a bit of a creeking noise to which concerns me a little, could this be a fault and result in the waterprofness not working?

I'm not talking about bending. If you put some stress on something for a period of time, it'll start to weaken and then probably creek. I don't know how old you are, but i remember when i had the Nokia 3210/3310/3410 etc. which had plastic back covers, and they would start to creek like hell after i'd removed the covers a lot.
If your thigh bumps and puts stress on the frame of the Ultra for some time (walking and sitting a lot with it in your front pocket, for example), it'll start to creek. That, i can tell you.
