verizon s4 official launch date - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just got back from Verizon in Rochester NY. A representative from Samsung was there showing off the s4. I had about 5 min hands on time with it. Absolutely amazing. Official launch date for Verizon is may 23rd. They will be doing preorders a couple weeks in advance. Price will be 199.99 with 2 year activation. You better believe ill be preordering it.

That leaked Staples memo had the Verizon date at 5/30. I'm not complaining though, hope you're right. My 2-year contract ended in February and I've been waiting since then for the S4...

I asked the Verizon dude about that. He said he cant speak for staples, but he, the gm of that particular Verizon, and that Samsung rep guaranteed me that verizons official launch date is may 23rd, accepting preorders a few weeks in advance. Just watch, and remember my post.

I actually went there to buy an sgs3 because I've been eligible for an upgrade since November. The guys said that if i came there earlier in the morning wanting to buy the sgs3, they would have told me to buy it because before the rep from Samsung showed up, they didn't know exactly when they were gonna get it. So I'm lucky i went when i did, because if i bought the s3 just to find out i could get the s4 on the 23rd, i would have been kicking myself in the ass.

What?

Any chance you can find out how much it will be off contract? 16GB/32GB/64GB variants?

Still on unlimited data (the only reason I'm on Verizon). Can't get the upgrade cost of $199 without losing it.

Samsungs PR released today states it will be on Verizon by the end of April. Looks like they are keeping their reps out of the loop!
The Galaxy S 4 is optimized for powerful performance on the nation’s fastest networks and will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless as well as U.S. Cellular, Cricket and C Spire starting during April. Additionally, consumers can find the Galaxy S 4 at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile, Costco, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Staples, Target and Wal-Mart. Exact pricing and retail availability will be announced by each of the carriers and retailers in the coming weeks.

It's a poorly worded press release. My guess is that the release meant that it will be available on those 7 carriers, some of which will start in April.

@VZWnews @VerizonWireless @Verizon I still have unlimited internet after 4/21 can I buy new galaxy s4 cell using the new 12 month payment plan that's effective on 4/21 without upgrading to the 200sub? Does anyone know I think everyone who still has unlimited internet should ask Verizon this.. I wanna get the new s4 but keep my unlimited internet so will this 12month thing work for me?

Should be the same as buying for full price. They just allow you to put the rest of the cost into your monthly payments. Would be extremely low of them to force you off unlimited since you're not extending your contract that way. I don't even know if they're allowed to do that. But yes I highly recommend calling a Verizon Wireless rep and confirming on this before doing that. Verizon is so sensitive about unlimited data plans now that even the smallest change could give them a reason to force you off. If you do get confirmation be sure to let us know.

I tweeted them asking them the same question in 6 different ways so if I don't hear anything soon its cause there avoiding the question..

HTC Support: ICS @ End of July

Be skeptical of course, since this is coming from a support email instead of an official statement by HTC.
I just love how HTC completely gives everyone the run around. We were supposed to have ICS months ago. Thank god the devs were able to give us awesome stable ICS roms literally months before this OTA.

I wouldn't blame it entirely on HTC. No way was Vzw about to let an HTC device get an ICS update before the RAZR.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, my blame should have been toward Verizon mostly. I really do hate Verizon between forcing us off our grandfathered plans, loading their phones with bloat and delaying updates.
I'm most likely waiting till the new iPhone and new Nexus devices come out (later this year most likely) and then buy one outright and hand my phone to my mother so we can stay on unlimited data. Nexus because of AOSP, iPhone because Apple usually gets what Apple wants and doesn't let the carriers load their phones with rubbish (Same with the nexus).

Exactly. Also they wouldnt let it get ICS before the HTC Incredible 4G LTE came out. That is their new top of the line HTC phone they sell. If the Rezound had ICS it would be more desirable than it because of the HD screen.

Then I would get an iPhone. I'm waiting for both to drop before I make my decision. I'm either going to end up with a no fooling around Nexus that does not come preloaded with VZNavigator, Golf, NFS, Blockbuster and whatever other guff Verizon chooses to put on the device or an iPhone.
Highly doubt Verizon will want the next Nexus considering it stands against everything they stand for and they dragged their feet with the GNex.

Try telling that to AT&T's support people. I have a co-worker who has been dealing with them for a week because they dropped her data plan when she got a Galaxy Nexus (unlocked) to replace her Atrix which got stolen. Their system doesn't recognize the phone, so it apparently refuses to let them set it up with a smartphone data plan. I told her she should try going into the store and see if they can fix it (and refuse to leave until it is).
I ran into something similar when I was with them a couple of years ago. I bought an unlocked Nokia E63 (technically a smartphone), but their system insisted on letting me keep my $30 unlimited data + text plan at the time, instead of making me upgrade to more expensive separate data and text messaging plans. I'm guessing in order to force people who get smartphones onto smartphone plans, they have to program their billing system to know which phones are considered smartphones. If you bring your own device, it throws a monkey wrench into that process. The US carriers take a good idea (portability, which is inherent in the way GSM works) and completely screw it up.

When the Rezound came out, HTC announced that the Rezound would one of the first phones to receive ICS in I believe January or February. That was later changed to Mayish and then changed to July. Granted this is likely Verizon's fault but its still unfortunate that HTC has to bend to Verizon's will when Google and Apple basically say **** you to them which is why I'm likely going to either the iPhone or next Nexus depending on which hardware is more enticing.

HTC One from T-Mobile USA

So now that we have seen the One become available on the other two carriers, let's post any updates on the HTC One from T-Mobile USA, as far as when and what versions become available for order, etc., as well as observations, suggestions, questions about T-Mobile specific HTC One specs, etc.
I for one would like to keep my eye on a few things to start with, so I'll kick it off:
Will T-Mobile/HTC ever actually make a One available in 64GB? (very wishful thinking).
How well does the HTC One perform with the radios that have been enabled specifically for T-Mobile's upgrading network?
If you see proof positive of T-Mobile taking orders, post it!
Thoughts on initial build quality and possible coming improvements to hold out for before ordering? (since we are the last to order these, might as well look at the bright side and hope to avoid initial build issues by not hastily ordering

I believe the HTC One 64 GB is a timed at&t exclusive. T-mobile as of now will only have the One in silver. Hopefully black will come soon for those who what it. Maybe since the iPhone launch is behind them they can announce a launch date for the One now.

No carrier has the black one as HTC doesn't have them for US initially. They are small potatoes they can't handle both colors launching at once. I hope tmobile releases end of month but I think they are pushing iPhone. I am sure in order to get iPhone from apple they committed to heavily advertising and pushing that phone at least for a while.
TMO Radio
I am wondering whether I can just order the developer one, and then just flash the TMO radio on it once that launches. There should be nothing really different between the devices. Does anybody know if I could do that?
I went to speak to a Tmo rep and he said this, The HTC One is delayed and we probably wont see it until May. Makes me very sad! I was really looking forward to it being available for the 19th! I too want the htc one in black but all i've seen is silver and the only black i've seen with hopes of being released is sprint. If you go to their homepage you will see Black coming soon! I'm not sure what to do if the Galaxy is launched before the one for tmo.. decisions, decisions.. lol
I don't really wanna pay high att prices but sometimes money don't matter when you want the ONE and u want it on the 19th..I would of gone with.the unlocked but they have done with the reframing in OK.

I am trying to think why would T-mobile not make an announcement about the one. I mean can they not handle launching another phone alongside the iphone? I don't understand. The longer they wait the more people will go to S4 initially and then if it takes longer maybe something from Google at the I/O no? I guess Tmobile doesn't care if you buy the s4 or something else as long as you are with them. More phones more customers no?
The T-Mobile phones are already made and just waiting for T-Mobile go ahead.

What does tmobile care? This weekend proved that iphones make them boat loads of money. As well as the galaxy line. Those are important. I'm hotly awaiting the one but I don't remember an HTC device that wasn't overshadowed by Samsung.

Has anyone been able to buy a One off contract?

I'm on vacation in NYC and tried to buy a One at the Times square AT&T but was denied. I was told they are saving them for contract upgrades.
Is this true for all AT&T stores, or was I fed some BS?

bs. try another store
I have been told in the past that technically there is a rule against selling phones off-contract on release day but the manager can override. Once they have enough inventory to not be concerned about selling out to new contracts or upgrades they are permitted to sell off-contract.
I preordered off contract on 4/5 and received it today...

Word of caution for off-contract purchase. If you have premier AT&T service that discounts your plan, every phone you add locks the new line in for 2 years regardless of whether you own the phone or not. It's better to buy on contract because you get the phone discount and same 2 year lock if you are on a discounted plan.
That isn't correct if you are using on an existing line...have done it at least once a year for 6 years, while receiving 18% off through my employer...

I meant if you add a new line. To your point, when you buy on contract, you are actually committing to 2 years of service, not the device. So yes, if you get a new phone and pop in an old SIM, there's not contract extension.
As a general rule, ask the AT&T sales rep if there are any stipulations or contract changes when you add a new line.
I did. Today. My rep said when the devices are in short supply they limit them to new activations only.
I had same issues with sprint. No stores will sell out right so I had to pay best buy prices:-/

No issues here. I've honestly never had an AT&T store decline to sell me a device at full retail. Within the last year on launch day I have bought the HOX, S3, Note 2, Lumia 920, BB Z10, and now the One full retail from my local ATT corporate store. Haven't encountered even the slightest resistance to selling off contract. Perhaps it varies by region?

Has anybody been able to get an early upgrade to the S4? My wife's line has an upgrade in August but i wanted to get her the S4 now. I was able to update my wife to the S3 1 month early, Her fascinate had died so they let me upgrade early.
You can upgarde 8 days early, but most of the time there are no early upgrades for verizon
I was able to upgrade a month early by calling up VzW tech support. I told them I was sick of my fascinate, and it was dropping calls and voice calls sounded scratchy (all true). The guy said no prob but I had to order via phone.
I ordered a couple months early for my S3. I was on the phone with Tech support about something, and they said that I could upgrade early if I wanted.
I got an early upgrade but I have to call on the 23rd and order it on the phone, I cannot goto a VZ store..wth?
I have the galaxy nexus and unlimited data so the only thing that is bothering me is the data cap, I only use 1.5-2 gigs a month but I'm planning on using Pandora soon almost daily so I'm afraid of that. I don't want to pay full price and can't afford that. I was going to sign up with T-Mobile so they were offering me things to stay on VZ and I mentioned an early upgrade.

I don't want to pay full price and can't afford that. I was going to sign up with T-Mobile so they were offering me things to stay on VZ and I mentioned an early upgrade.

It's cheaper to pay full price than to get a 5gb plan if your worried about Pandora using data.
200 for upgraded phone
480 more over two years if you have to get 5gb plan over the $30 unlimited plan.
Total cost:680+tax

Wow I can't believe Verizon. I called today and now they're saying I can't upgrade to the S4 even though there are notes on my account for an early upgrade but they said it didnt specifically say the S4. So Im having them pull the call recordings, BS... I'm not sure if I'm going to be using Pandora much though, will it really suck up a lot of data? I only went over 2 gigs one month out of the last 6

I use Pandora and Google play music all work day, I typically use 4.5-5 on a normal month, but sometimes I hit 7 or 8. Just I'd rather be on the safer side of things. And you get any device you want, just sell the s4 when you want something new. It's truely cheaper when you do the math

I guess august 29 is too far for Verizon to even consider giving me early upgrade. Sucks, have to look into different methods of acquiring it
Finally won the battle, phone is being shipped will have it Wednesday

Wtf, how the hell did you get that? So far every rep I spoke with told me it can't be done
I called in April to terminate contract early so I could move to T-Mobile and they offered me an early upgrade for when the S4 comes out. I called on the release day and 4 people gave me hell and wouldn't do it even though there was notes on my account discussing it. I called for an update on my calls today and the lady didn't even blink an eye, she was awesome and just upgraded me. I would call and talk to the dept that controls terminations and see what happens

Some deal, you get locked in for 2 years with the highest priced carrier with little to no data usage... Suckers

It's also free via Sprint, for new lines and upgrades, but you need to use the holiday tab to get it free for upgrades.
I believe this is the correct link - http://shop.sprint.com/mysprint/shop/phone_wall.jsp?INTNAV=LP:SpecialOffers:LGG2MiniFree:120213

Not so bad if you do the unlimited data bait & switch. Not all of us have the convenience of reliable coverage from multiple carriers in our areas regardless of what coverage maps show.
Quit judging, I'm just passing on info man.
There's a reason Sprint is cheap, their coverage sucks.

Some of us don't care as we are already WITH these carriers. If we are going to use them anyway, why not take advantage of a free phone?? (I am with ATT not verizon but same ol' same ol')
I am sick of peoples insistance that contract free is so great. If you live outside the USA, MAYBE, inside the USA that is not even close to true unless you A.) enjoy crap service B.) barely move C.) Never use your phone.
I would take AT&T or Verizon over any prepaid crap service and featureless "plan" any day of the week, hands down. I have tried many difference prepaid services and they are all the same, terrible spotty service, slow speeds, and hack call quality. Again this does not apply outside the USA, but here, prepaid is AWFUL.
I have no interest in swapping carriers, therefor I chose to use my upgrades and get free/discounted phones since I am going to continue to use AT&T anyway. My plan price does not go down if I do not, there is no advantage to me for not upgrading other than allowing to me to switch carriers.

No not from Sprint. I tried and then call to order via phone and itis only for new customer or add a line. called locall Sprint store and same deal.
Best Buy has it free for upgrade.
That's a really good deal. And what he said I have no intentions of leaving Verizon so it I'm going to pay the same anyway might as well upgrade. I lost my unlimited and now I'm on the 6 gig plan. I average like 2 gigs a month so it was no big deal for me. My daughter average 30 gigs a month so she pretty much has to stay unlimited lol

You can be all over it from Best Buy. The have it free for upgrading as well.
I rushed to the Bestbuy store on BF for $49.99. Fought for parking space, waited in long line and now find out it's free.
I can only laugh at myself. Sad but laughable.

Some of us don't care about being locked into a contract. Where I live Verizon's coverage is so much better than everyone else's that I'll gladly pay more for it. Also, Verizon is offering former unlimited customers 6 GB of data for the 2 GB price with no additional strings attached. So the little to no data usage part doesn't apply either.
Did the exact same thing. BF $49 and cyber monday free. I took my receipt to best buy and they credited back my card. It was simple and fast.
Ordered mine for $0. Added as a new line. I already have a S3 on unlimited. Planning to break the contract immediately after activation and pay $350 ETF. Pay 1 day prorated monthly charge. Profit :good:. Sell my S3 for $180-$200 on ebay. U cant get such a good phone for $350 and still retain unlimited.
Have chat transcripts with VZW reps..who said doing such a thing will only result in a $350 ETF!!

You can get the deal if you use the loophole. I just did it twice, once for my line and just this week for my wife's line.
We both had upgrades due on our unlimited lines. We have 5 lines total on a national family plan, 2 are feature phones & 3 are smartphones. I transferred our upgrades to the feature phone lines, got the g2's at the promo price, and activated the new phones on the former feature phone lines. Immediately reactivated the feature phones on their respective lines by dialing *228 which deactivated the new phones and automatically cancelled the mandatory data plans required by the upgraded devices. Now that both new phones are free from their original lines, I popped in our SIM cards which reactivated the new phones on our unlimited lines.
So, new phones for promo pricing and unlimited data retained=win/win.
