I used navigation for about 15 minutes today and I couldn't belive how hot it got. I've never had a phone get that hot before. I'm thinking of exchanging it tomorrow.

+1 will wait and see more replies to see if anybody has a one that is staying cool under daily use. Mine is definitely warm to the touch might make my hands sweat with prolonged use. It does cool down fast with the screen off.

When Playing Order&Chaos with WiFi trick,Do your phone get ridiculously hot

So when im playing O&C on 3G this phone get so hot that I can feel the heat even with the otter box case on,the heat is around the top part of the phone, and the temperature reading is 115'-120'F is that because wifi is constantly scanning?..or is it because of the game constantly drain data?

I have this exact same problem I think the reason is because both WiFi and 3g is on running at the same time I think thats why it gets hot

Hopefully thats all it is cause I was goin to return it.& the 3D ac charger push a lot of power into the phone really fast(sorry I don't know the technical terms) and get over 115'F really quick
...I'm now using the iPhone charger,it charge very slow for this phone but it keeps the temperature under 110'F while playing Order&Chaos

I'm having the same issue with my 3vo. I'm hoping this amount of heat will not cause any long term damage to our phones over time.

Yeah, that's why I got insurance just incase the problem decide to show it self after 30days

Ive had this problem when playing games with airplane mode on so I am assuming the processor is the culprit. Just played zombieland usa and my 3vo got up to 110.
Those kinds of temperatures aren't going to hurt anything, i think the auto safety is at 50c or 122f. One of the problems with high temperatures is weakening solder joints. I would say 140+ is the point where things might start getting a little too hot. But the phone will shut down before it gets that hot.

I had the same problem while playing. And also I noticed my phone would get extremely hot while plugged in as well. I checked out a few threads here and figured it wouldnt be a problem. This morning I woke up to a dead evo. My guess is that extended periods at that temp will cause damage. It may have just been my evo as my friend's does not get hot.
I've played on 3g/WiFi for hours on end and my phone has never gotten very hot. Maybe a tad bit,but nothing like what you guys are describing. Idk.

Stock phone battery is safe up to 140f (60c). Don't be scared just cause it's slightly warm.

Show the temperature lol let hand Conner and right bow just wifi and charging it
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
lol i didnt see that if you are really worried about just have sprint give u a new one just go back to stock first!! also are you overclocking?
FYI, wifi tethering WILL cause battery temp to go up. Depending on how much data is transferred, it uses a lot of energy...cause it uses both 3G and wifi at same time.

Grab some marshmallows?
I'm trying to think but nothing happens.
122f is nothing, I beleive the phones internal cutoff is 150f. Even then 150f is still not hot enough to cause damage, thats just a point that any hotter then that there is a potential for damage.
Highest I've seen mine was 147f that was on a hot ass summer day sitting in my windshield mount, with gps, bluetooth, and netflix streaming.
If your phone constantly and easily triggers the internal temperature shut off, then yes exchange. Otherwise use your phone and don't worry about it.
I think I got my Celsius and Fahrenheit mixed up. I believe the internal cutoff is at 50c or 60c. Highest I've seen mine is 47C or somewhere in there, high 40s I know that. I've never triggered the automatic shutdown though. 122f is 50c though, which is hot, potential damage to the phone is minimal but the battery is a different story. Although I don't think the temperature our phone reports is the actual battery temp. I've seen mine read in 40c range, and my battery feels cool to the touch.
over heating
what kernal do you have installed and also this could be the problem if your over clocked you should try another kernal and stay somewhere around 1.5 is all you need anymore than that will cause problems like over heating and breaking wifi so on and so on
You do realize this thread is over 6 months old.

Bad Service Today- Phone Getting Hot

Signal keeps turning on and off. It seems as if my 4g is have problems today. Because of a bad signal my phone got up to 134 degrees. My guess is they are working on the service. I live in Kansas.
Where there where several Torandos over the weekend.
Are you on the leak? That's pretty damn hot.

Let that phone rest a little, that's getting way too hot, like dangerous hot.
turn 4g off, see if that helps it cool down?
Might wanna disable 4G til the service is fixed..
Mine hit 126... Light started flashing.

Heating issues?

My phone gets very hot after just an hour or so of web browsing. Not unbearable but very noticeable. Anyone else experiencing this?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Haven't experienced anything like this while using the phone. Only time it has gotten hot is when I had it charging in the car after I first got it.

Mine has some, but I wouldn't say "very hot". Ive noticed every time its happened, if I hit the recent apps button theres like 10 things in there. From what I understand that SHOULDNT matter ..... but I'll be damned if I dont close them all, and go about my browsing and the phone cools off eventually. Could be coincidence, idk. (Cools off over the matter of some minutes while still browsing)
It cools off pretty quick but only if I stop using the phone. I'm thinking it may be my case. I have the seidio pt (innocase I think its called?) case from bestbuy...

internal alarm noise??

Woke up in the middle of the night to a ringing noise on my phone, it wasn't coming out of the rear speaker? First thing I did was to check my alarms, sure enough they were turned off. I turned off the phone and it went away 3 min later the noise came back!! While being off. I could only think of being an alarm for a hot battery?
Was the phone really hot? Was it plugged in or running a cpu intensive app?

It was kind of hot Lol it was under my pillow not plugged in. Anybody has had a similar situation? By the way this is my first HTC device
Your not suppose to put you smartphone underneath your pillow while it's powered. I don't know about the noise but just don't place it under your pillow. You can placebos in your pocket though.

I put placebos in my pocket all the time.
doesn't seem normal for a a phone to have one
Didn't intend to put it under the pillow I just set it aside in bed, but it ended covered somehow. Temps got up 116 degrees F. Its some type of security alarm I guess, because it sounded while the phone was off too.
That's crazy talk! .. thats interesting.. question is why did it get that hot?

This same thing happened to me today. I work in a large concrete building with VERY little reception. All of a sudden I head the chirping ringing that you're describing. I guess my DNA was getting hot while it was reaching out for signal all day.
I remember my Bionic getting pretty toasty at the office too, but I guess it didn't have an alert for overheating. Anyway, I'm pretty sure this is temperature related because after putting it in airplane mode and going outside on my break (where it's 45 degrees), it stopped right away. :good:
Now I just need to find out how to disable it, because I work on the phone almost all day, I can't have it chirping up a storm in the background.
