[Q] Old guy needs help with Lenovo A660 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got an A660 from China. I want to flash cybermaus' custom ROM to get rid of all the Chinese stuff (and there's a lot!) and be able to install all the familiar apps I have on my Nexus 7 (and there's a lot!). I can get into stock recovery easily but haven't been able to go any further.
Please can someone explain to me, as if you're talking to my 7 year old grand-daughter, how to do what's necessary.
The phone is Lenovo A660, Android version 4.0.4, Baseband version A660.V2,2012/06/06 00:30, Build number A660_S025_121122. I was supposed to receive the phone from an eBay seller all set up like I wanted but he 'forgot'. I have nothing on the phone so far and would really like to install a decent ROM before I start filling the thing with personal data etc.
I have already read everything to do with this undertaking on XDA-developers and my head is spinning from the hundreds of pages that I have waded through. Can someone please make it simple for an old guy? Thanks a million in advance.
PS Superuser is installed (does this mean that the phone is already rooted?) ...... also, Play Store was installed by Chinese seller but will only launch for about half a second and then quits.

EUREKA!!!!!! Finally, after 2 solid weeks of trying I came across this webpage and was able to root my Lenovo A660 in minutes!

[Q] Ramos w27 howto root and install clockworkmod

Hello,
as I wrote in the title I'm looking for a way to install cwm on my ramos w27. Does anyone know how to do this?
My other problem is rooting the device.
sorry for being a noob
bob
Any news?
Hi!
I'm new on Android since I buyed my Ace S-5830i this year but thats not my problem...
After a couple of trouble I lost my PC so I decided to buy me a cheap 10inch Quadcore Tablet (thats more power as I had with my old pc).
I thought there should be no problem to buy a china tablet. there should be anywhere support for those tablets when I'm into trouble.
After searching and look at my budget I found the Ramos W27pro and then I ordered one of them.
The shipping tooked two weeks.
One Week after the tablet arrived I added many .ttf font files into system/data/fonts. For adding the ttf files into the fonts direction the tablet asked for permission to write into system directory and I gave the permission to do paste the files.
A few minutes later the board language had changed into symbols or chineese language, I don't remember. Then I decided to delete every file which I added before and deleted them. After waiting and nothing has changed to european letters, I thought a restart could fix the problem with the board langauge change after it would load evrything again but that was a very bad mistake of myself. After trying to restart the tablet only loads to the bootanimation and stays at that point. IT does nothing more.
The tablet came rooted to me (SDMaid as symbol was running on it, the app needed root rights to run on a device and it worked well.)
With my Ace GT S-5830i I collected the last weeks a little bit android experience and learned here on xda how to root and use clockworkmod in recovery mode.
With the fact that I dont have a PC where I could connect the tablet I'm searching now over two weeks to get input for the tablet and I'm also in contact with the seller and also the manufactor from RAMOS itself.
Ramos didn't gave me usefull Information, about how te reset the tablet in recovery mode. They said after one week I should update the firmware while using a PC for thst and I should ask the seller vor Information. But when I will flash a new firmware I will loose my guarantie for the tablet, so I asked the seller whats to do and after them next week they told mehr I can send the tablet back to china and they will have a look on it and repair it also.
But I really dont want to ship it back, maybe 4-8 weeks untill I would get it back because I wan't to use it now and what would they do if they tell me there was only a problem made by me and that came not with the tablet. Who will pay evreything and blablabla...
I like the tablet really mich, it's better than I expected.
Because of such a small problem Hand then to wait so long time to get it fixed I dont want to chip it back to china.
Now I wanted to know if there is anybody fixable solution for me.
A clockwormod based recovery I think would help me to be able to reset and whipe the data but I didn't found anywhere one for my device which could be compatible.
Ah I forgot, using the reset button inside the little hole, didn't worked, too.
When I want to go into recovery I can see only the robot with the triangle laying down on the floor.
I really searched everywhere and in many languages but there was no support to find for this model also at ramosfans dot com.
Please, if there is anybody with usefull information, share it.
I made a little video to show what the tablet does and whats in recovery and what happend when pressing the reset button: youtubeDOTcom/watch?v=KkagCLwTm7w&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/url]
Thanks for reading and your time and excuse me for the bad school english of me..

Hi guys new to this forum, well sort of i have used xda b4 to install custom roms. Well im back to seek advice with this tablet, it's made by Hanvon model is Hpad a116. Long story short i got these from a guy that had a failed business, he has about 15+ tablet that are collecting dust and i want to help him get rid of them...
So this tablet runs on gingerbread beside wanting to update the os the major issue with this tablet is it is oem modded to be used in china even after switching the langauge to english the system masseges stil display in chinese.... I have flipped the internet up side down trying to find support for this device and got nothing except for a chinese program that i can use to root this device and surprising thing is that this tablet came rooted and have a recovery program, but ended up rerooting it with that chinese program and installed kinguser. I felt like i am getting closer but then lastnight i attempted to flash a random android rom now the tablet is stuck at boot screen....... So im gonna start all over with another unit but definately need some help so i dont end up lock the next tablet.
Plzzzz help...

[Q] Overwhelmed: Pop C1 custom ROM installation

Hiya
I have an Alcatel Onetouch Pop C1 4015D (and for the record, I'm never buying this brand or similar junk again). I just got it un-bricked after a few months thanks to the online USB firmware updater. It's currently in pretty much its factory-default state again, preinstalled crapware and all.
What I'd like to do is install a custom ROM on it, to have a clean system I can actually enjoy owning, e.g. AOSP (if that is what I think it is: the basic, clean Android system). The problem is that I'm getting a little overwhelmed with information, tutorials linking to more tutorials, tutorials linking to downloads for which I have to "complete a survey" and such (abort abort abort), 2 different tutorials for the same thing stating different ADB commands, a few outright scams, etc etc etc. There's tons of information out there, but 90% of it seems wrong, irrelevant, device-specific or otherwise unusable. I've already spent hours on this and still haven't gotten anywhere.
I'd be very grateful if someone actually reliable could walk me through the entire, correct process, please. :fingers-crossed:
I'm just going to write down the bits and pieces of info I already have:
I've already rooted it with Framaroot; no problems there, superuser works.
I've found this site that lists several ROMs, presumably specifically for the C1, including the standard ROM and a cleaned version: tinyurl dot com/o24wqoe. The AOSP one strikes my fancy and is on my SD card already.
The same site says I can just put the provided ROMs on my SD and install them as updates via stock recovery, but I highly doubt that because I read everywhere you specifically can't do that. Sounds like fake advice to me.
I'm told I'd need to unlock my bootloader, but once in fastboot/bootloader mode none of the offered fastboot unlock commands really do anything. The "..." appears in my console and then nothing.
I've tried installing TWRP and CWM recoveries, but you know, "your device is not supported". There's this video of a C1 with a custom recovery (watch?v=_TGgXIp3fWM) and the comments claim it's CTRecovery, but I can't even find anything about that. I already submitted requests for a fix for my device to twrp and cwm half a year ago before I bricked this thing, and one person promised he was gonna make a build for me, but nothing came from any of that.
I think that's just about all the useful things I can extract from this whole mess of information I have...
Please help me make sense of this overload of info and device-specific shenanigans, and walk me through what seems to be such a simple process for everyone with a mainstream device?
For the record, I'm back down to barely being up-to-date on what is what anymore. I'm more than familiar enough with the theoretical side (bootloaders, partitions, bios, etc) because of my heavy computer usage (professional programmer), but once I get into Android I'm just lost. All that fancy terminology nobody seems to bother to explain, things that are taken for granted but aren't really obvious (like a guy demonstrating the installation of a custom ROM, and only mentioning 10 minutes into the excessively long video that you need to install a custom this and custom that first), so many alternative methods for the same thing that have different dependencies (unlocking bootloader vs custom recovery), etc... I don't know anymore what's device-specific and what isn't, who is telling the truth, what a given tutorial is actually making me achieve in the end, etc. TL;DR I'm lost, I'm not stupid but I'm not gonna pretend to know anything about Android's subsystems anymore at this point.
wow u wrote a full post and u speaked for me as have the same problem
Custom recover
i have made a recovery for the 4015x
and got one of the roms to work
(and a fixed stock recovery)
there are 6 versions of this phone and at least two different partition tables that ive seen
but getting it back from softbrick id use the "mobile upgrade s 4.1.1" from the alcatel site
alcatel, mobiles, all mobiles, pop c1, support and on the right hand side down load the program and follow
this forces a stock rom back on the phone (no root and all data wiped)
im waighting on the mods to let me post links so i can host the roms and recoverys
but if you want to mess with the roms your self you can edit the partition tables and get the roms to install.
id use the app "diskinfo" to check what partitions your system and data etc etc are useing and chainge this in the roms.
hope this helped
p.s. if not i could poss look at editing the aosp rom for you and host if for a bit
just waighting on beeing able to post links :s

Hello! I recently got a h892l myself. Ive never rooted before and I have been trying to learn as much as I can before rooting. On another forum (howard forums) someone said they rooted with kingo root.
Im sorry, I dont have anyknowledge to assist you, but I wanted to ask, do you know what went wrong? Anything you could offer as far as advice/experience would be very much appreciated- I cant afford another phone either.
I wish you all the best and hope you are able to sort this issue out.

VF Smart Prime 6 (VF-895N) Firmware & Recovery Problem

Hey everyone! I recently transitioned from my old Sony Xperia E1 to this new phone. As a active tester and developer I of course decided to download a ROM for this phone (MIUI 8 I believe?) and it then decided to go in a softbrick (bootloop). Of course the normal solution would be to restore the stock firmware on it and be back to normal.
I found this thing online (which I had used before, and it most certainly worked) called SUGAR_QCT SP tool which allowed me to restore the firmware, but of course after installing all the drivers and doing all the steps, I couldnt get it working (I even tried at my friends house to no avail). I then decided to go online and look for a stock recovery and firmware, but me being stupid (and tired) I clicked on a VF Smart ULTRA 6 link for the recovery, flashed through TWRP... and you get the rest. So now I have a bootlooping, no recovery phone that sits there with a £10 case on it. Vodafone said try going to their store and they'll fix it but they will probably end up trying to charge me money :/ so in reality I don't wanna do that.
This phone has been sat on my desk for three months and I need a phone. Please, someone provide me with a fix ASAP! I am going to go online after I go to sleep and search more on how I can fix this - maybe, just maybe I can get it working on Windows 10.
Thanks in advance! I will give someone a highfive if they can fix my phone :highfive:
