Archos 80 Titanium WiFi Issue - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I recently purchased the archos 80 titanium and have found the WiFi seems to be terrible regarding signal strength and also download speeds when connected to a network, I downloaded the new upgrade that was suggested when I first started the device but this seems to of done nothing, does anyone else have this issue or know of any possible solutions to rectify the issue? I've emailed there tech support but I can imagine there response to the issue when I get 1 that is, that it will be an error at my end and not there's!

I have the same issue (seems to be a known issue looking online) but it seems to be better or worse depending on the access point I use.
I have a Plusnet router at home and it was pretty bad with that but I plugged in a D-Link access point in another room and it seems to like that better. When I'm at work I use a Meraki and works well with that too.
I think it seems to be very fussy with access points. I hope they do release an update for the WiFi drivers or something to give it some extra juice!

It's a shame really as the tablet does actually have the potential to be good, I've come to realise that I don't think it's really a software/firmware issue I just think the WiFi receiver's that are in the tablet are of a poor quality but then again I could be wrong just wish they would release some information of a new firmware and what there suggesting the new firmware would be updating to see if there ever planning on addressing the issue.

I'm going to buy it, is this still a problem after the new update?
thanks a lot!

[Q] Bad WIFI reception, driver or hardware issue?

Hey guys,
I do got some issues with the WIFI reception on my gtab. The signal is always very low and weak. I tried every rom, even did an NVFlash to go stock but that didnt help either. I did put carbon stickers on the whole device though, can that have any impact? Are there more people with this problem and if so have you got stickers on the device? Please let me know, thanks in adance!!
Peace!
After submitting this post my connection dropped which it also does more often.
Anyone has a clue?
3sade,
I actually had this same problem about 2 weeks ago. I would be directly over my WiFi AP and had a weak signal (2bars) no matter what ROM I used. I called up GTab support (310) 228-4000 and opened a RMA with them. Despite what's I've read in other posts, support was very nice and willing to help for me. They will tell you that you'll have to remove the carbon stick from the device and restore it to the stock ROM. That part sucks but when I got my gtab back (14 business day wait), it is in better working condition then when I sent it to them (the screen is more responsive, seems less sluggish with the stock ROM).
I don't know if this is what you were hoping to hear, but I thought I would pass it along.
I'm sorry to reply to an old thread but I've just recieved a hannspad sn10t1 which I believe has similar if not the same hardware as the GTab. I'm having the same issue with wifi connection, if I actually touch it to the router then I might get 3 bars! I definately cant leave the room and still be connected.
Have I got a faulty unit or is there a software or settings fix? By the sound of this its a hardware fault but I'd rather try and find a fix first.

Most definitely a hardware issue. It sound like your antenna is not even connected at all. I would contact the manufacture for a RMA. If not crack it open and find the antenna

Where's my water ??

I bought this game around 1 month ago. It was a great game i love it very much.
But now I cant find it in my tab's market anymore and when I use web android market it show that it's no longer supported for galaxy tab 10.1.
Anyone played this game and encounter this problem ? Thanks.
It's still on the Amazon Appstore as the #1 game as of yesterday.

Working and updating ok on my tab
This seems to be affecting many varieties of tablet.... I'm wondering if it's to do with the new requirement for WAP access, which I assume wouldn't be available on wifi only tablets. I came upon another thread discussing the WAP issue, where the game developers had replied and said that those permissions were getting removed again, and I've mentioned the tablet compatibility problem there. The thread is:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22039480&posted=1#post22039480
I am using wifi+3G version P7500 tab. so i guess is not the problem. does it have anything to do with updating market in my tab??
is there anyway to fake market into other device ?
I don't think you can fake it unless your device is rooted. I also don't think your market update is the problem, since you see the same error going via the website.
A developer replied to my post on the other thread and said WAP permissions required actual telephony hardware, and that this was causing the problems with some tablets, so it may not matter so much about 3G versus wifi, perhaps it's more to do with whether your device identifies itself to the market as phone or tablet.
For that reason, and also because of the timing of when you first had issues, I would still suspect the latest app update is causing your problem, rather than anything you've changed on the tablet. I'd wait and see if the next update fixes it before you try anything too drastic.
In case you aren't following the other thread... The new update has been released and I can confirm it works fine on my Acer Iconia, so if WAP permissions were causing your problem, hopefully yours should work now too. Good luck!
yup.. it is working now.. i even bought the cranky story.. but it is kinda weird the free version still show not supported ...
Yeah, the free version still has WAP in its permissions, don't know whether it's intentional or another mistake.
Suppose most people with Android tablets have Android phones too, so will end up like myself...trying the free one on the phone and then getting the full one for their tablet.

[Q] What are all the issues with the prime?

Ok so I'm in the market to get a tablet and the Transformer Prime on the top of my list...Ok it's the only tablet on my list XD
I've been poking around the forums and I getting slapped in the face with more and more problems with the device. It's insane 10 min here and I see SD fallout Wifi fall out GSP is screwed and bricked units!!!
Would someone be so kind to tell what all of the problems are? If most of the things could be fixed I don't mind spending time rootting modding tweaking I just want to know what I'm in for if I get the prime.
Thank you everyone~
The problems are:
GPS DOA
Wifi Weak
Buletooth Weak
Can't use Wifi and Bluetooth at the same time
Glass Cracks from holding it wrong.
If your going to mod it, I think this one can still be bricked.
Especially if its a C10 or later S/N (I don't really remember but somewhere around C10 up).
Just be sure the first thing you do after unlocking the bootloader is get clockwork recovery rom installed.
Do a nandroid backup, then copy that backup file to a safe place off the unit.
From then on, you should be good to go whatever you try and pull on it.
Thats about the list you'll find here.
Keep in mind that any internet forum, and this is no exception, will have more than the average overall of problems beacuse most people that are happy don't seek out communities to fix problems if they have none.
So, you get an unbalanced proportion.
You have the geeks, hardware and software hackers, as well as the people that haven't got a clue but are looking up prime problems.
I'm not saying there isn't a disproportionate amount of issues with the Prime, far from it.
I'm just saying it may not be quite as bad as it seems on the surface.
Now, I have one, I bought my wife one, and a friend in the cube next to me here at work bought one same time I did.
None of these have had ANY ISSUES at all save the gps which is not advertised as working anymore.
To be honest, Google location services is fine for whatever I need tethered to my phone for things like Yelp.
I have a gps in my car and never plan to use the Prime for it anyway.
Also, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Best of its kind by far and constantly is surprising me with the versitility.
If I want to do something different, it just does it.
Have hooked up Wiimote, Sixaxis, external drives, sambad, ssh'd dlna'd, hdtv'd out, you name it, this thing rocks.
I'm not going to drive with my table out so I'm not worried about the GPS lol.
From my understanding so far it's a luck of the draw you get one with some problems or no problems. The only problem I see there that I care about is weak Wifi and I think that happen with the ICS update? If that's the case then I'll just hunt down a fix for that I'm sure it's a software issue.
The main reasons I want the prime is because of the godlike dock! For some reason I hate laptops, but I love the prime since I can just add and remove the dock. I haven't seen any tablet out there with USB ports which is insane if you ask me!!!
I really hope that one could install Windows 8 on the prime since it has an open bootloader.
Thank you for your feedback Scrufy~
1 problem. Stupid ignorants in the prime xda forums. Oh, and GPS. That makes two.

Only small numbers have weak wifi. BT is not weak..lol I use both all the time just fine. Even in combination with each other.
There is only one real problem and that's GPS. As far as screen cracking, that's b.s. a handful at most had that and some of those stories are questionable. I've had mines since 12/22 with no case and screen is just fine. Wifi works great and even stronger and has faster download speeds than my Ipad.
Its a great device. Earlier units suffered issues. If you want a reality check on situation of prime, just take a look at the Positive Transformer thread in my signature. If you get one now, chances are high you have nothing to worry about. There's alot in the forum who don't even own device yet spread negativity about it without any real hands on experience. There's a poll that shows over 400 prime owners here, over 80%, are satisfied with their Prime. Which greatly outnumber those having issues. So issues tend to be grossly exaggerated.

[Q] Sony Tablet worst Experience :: Got replaced piece, but same again :-(

I own Sony Tablet S since last 90 days but has a lot of problems, it has been at the service station due to its issues for more than 45 days.
The features/functions included are really nice, but the company doesn't care for the customers.
I called and mailed the Customer Care for more than 20 times, but didn't got a revert even once.
I somehow got a replacement, but the same issues were there in that one too.
If not wrong, I got the promises from the Customer Care around 20 times to revert back, but just got 1 revert back.
The major issues I am facing are
1. Wi-Fi disconnects regularly
2. Wi-Fi doesn't have proper range which you can even see in the youtube link as follows:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FRb855gBMo
3. The device hangs a lot when loaded, stops responding for a long time and the only solution remains is to Restart/Shutdown
4. The screen doesn't get unlocked many a times even upto 30 seconds after pressing the unlock button.
5. GPS connectivity issue: Connection to GPS only remains if you stay at a place, not if you move anywhere from a particular place.
BUT THE WORST problem I am facing is the WORST COMPANY SERVICE.
The stupids don't just know any status of the problems most of the times.
They promise to call/revert back, but I didn't get any reverts of my e-mails from the 13th of April 2012. I can't understand why is this happening to me ???
Any1 facing any of these issues ???
Please provide me reverts unlike SONY
I have the same problems 3 & 4 as you. And most probably caused by the WiFi connection.
I have sent in my Tablet for repair cause after a month of usage - the battery cannot be charged.
Hopefully the ICS update will solve these few problems.
I'm from Singapore and Sony after-sales service sucks all around the world except USA, Japan & maybe UK. That's where all their customers are at. =)
Sorry to hear you're having problems.
If you've had the same wifi issues with 2 tablets then it's unlikely to be a hardware problem and more likely to be a compatibility or settings issue between your router & tablet.
I'd try connecting to another router or network or if this is not possible look at temporarily removing security and possibly changing channel settings on your router. There are other threads here which discuss some wifi issues. Make sure your router has the latest firmware installed and do make sure you've updated to the latest version of Android for your region as this has been known to help
Wifi will disconnect when the tablet goes to sleep but should connect again within 10 secs or so of waking up Unless you download an extra app which forces constant connection.
With respect to the laggyness and crashing what apps do you have installed? I'd be tempted to point the finger there first before blaming the tablet, might be worth going through them and seeing if you can narrow it down to a dodgy app or one that doesn't like the Sony much. Certainly like above get the latest android.
I hope the issues get sorted swiftly for you.

Wifi is a known unsolved issue the rest is not really nmormal, but why don't you try to contact sony vaio service wich contains tablet s also
Agreed with James. If two tablets have WiFi problems, it's almost guaranteed that is a problem with your network environment, not with the Tablet. I have never had a problem with the WiFi and it always reconnects easily.
Also +1 for the app suspicions. Most of those issues sounds like they could be coming from an app (particularly 3 and 4), so try factory resetting your device then installing apps slowly one-at-a-time, waiting about 24 hours between installs to see if any apps cause this behaviour to return.
As for replies from customer service, I can't help you there since Sony replied to my only support Q within three days of my message. Make sure you have the right address, and then try Vaio Service.

Thanks for reply dude, but you'll really be amazed to know that
My router doesn't have any issue, it has been upgraded to the latest firmware.
To add I connect the same router with 2 Nokia E6-00, Nokia N8-00, Nokia E63, 2 Sony Vaio Laptops, 2 PC with a linksys usb modem, Samsung Galaxy S, Nokia E71, Lenovo Laptop, Samsung Galaxy Note, Sony Walkman Live, a lot Iphones of my customers get connected to it, a lot ipads get connected to it and none of them have problems, why this is the only 1 ???
About softwares, again a shock this is a problem when my Tablet was just opened from the box even, it is still there and I guess will remain forever, and if you guys don't know, just check the youtube link I provided, it explains a lot.
Anyways thanks for the help
And even I use 4 Sony Vaio Laptops and always suggest Sony to my friends and relatives, but this time I faced the worst cause they promised me to revert back almost 20 times, but I got a revert only once. What the f**k
Guys please reply if any of you are facing the same problem or not ???

Wi-Fi pretty much $&*% the bed, any help or guidance?

I was using my prime with the keyboard attached yesterday morning while running CM10_9/2 version nightly. Now I know WiFi signal strength has never been real strong for the prime in general, in fact it sucks, but I was happy that I could use it all over my home. That all changed yesterday morning when the signal dropped completely. I thought it was just my router so I reset it and checked my phone and PS3 to see how there signal was. Both seemed fine and normal, but not so on the Tablet. I could not get WiFi to reconnect. I was so confused so I restored a couple older ROMs and even flashed brand new ones to see if it was somehow a kernel issue, not so much. Dumbfounded I went in the room that has the router in it with the tablet, not sure why, but I did. Low and behold I had a signal while standing right next to the router. Once I leave that room I cannot get a signal. So I thought I would bring it to my work today to test signal strength with a router a few cubes down to make sure it wasn't my home network. Well the results were the same thing. I can connect to it, but the signal is horrible! Is there anything else I should try? Is there any way to get this fixed under warranty with an unlocked bootloader as all I was doing was reading something online? Any other suggestions you guys might haver? I truly appreciate the forums for times like these. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried putting pressure on the wifi connectors to the right of the front camera? It seems that fixed some problems for some users.
pretty sure rma could fix it, not sure they would do it for free since you are unlocked. It is probably a physical problem more so than a software one.
Thanks for the responses, another kicker I forgot to mention and it's kind of a big one is this tablet is 8 months old. I bought it is January! Crazy how this just happened!

I had a strange thing when I visited family recently. My tablet works all around my house no problem but in another house unless I was in the same room it didn't work.
I ran a wifi scanner and found that everyone around her was on sky and all using channel 1. I changed her router to use channel 11 and instantly had connection all around her house. All sky routers are set to auto yet use channel 1 as default.
Try using wifi analyzer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5mYXJwcm9jLndpZmkuYW5hbHl6ZXIiXQ.. to see what's being used around you and changing your router to get away from others.
It might not work but worth a go because I couldn't believe the difference when I switched channels.
