[Q] Anyone need an X2? I'm willing to donate to a dev - Motorola Droid X2

I've just switched to an iPhone 5 today, so my old Droid X2 is available for anyone who wants it.

I want a droid x2. Or do you just want to donate it to a dev? I'm not a dev, but I do try roms and test them out.

If it is still available, nitroglycerine33 needs one. Maybe he will update Eclipse if he has one.

if it's still available?
I'm a Computer Engineer who has mainly done desktop and server development and did some mobile development on Windows CE / PocketPC back in 2000, I've had PDAs and cell phones for years but bought my first 'smartphone' around 2006 that ran Windows Mobile 5. In January 2012, I got my first Android phone which was an X2. I choose an Android device over a Windows or Apple device because it was the cheapest way to get into mobile development (free development tools, no annual fees, etc.). Since I had to stop working in 2008 due to bulging disk, I've been wanting to start developing on the mobile platform some of the ideas that have come to my mind. So, I say all that to let you know that although I am not currently an experienced developer on the mobile platform, it's been my intention to since I stopped working. And although I already have an X2, I'd rather not use my 'everyday' phone as my development phone. So, if the offer still is valid, I'd be grateful for taking advantage of your gracious offer.

Mine's still working stronger than ever, but it would be nice/faster to have a device that I could test my CM10.1 ROM on without losing all my data on my phone.
If someone like DZK, or the dev of Eclipse doesn't take it, and you're willing to, I can put it to use for my 4.2.2 ROM instead of having to wipe mine all the time.

Perhaps we like the phone? Also maybe we don't want to sign a new contract with verizon and don't want to shell out big bucks for a new phone at the poor of contract price.

I have yet to find another android phone with a form factor that I like as well as the Eris. It fits well in my hand, the buttons are placed nicely and it's a great size for me & my tiny hands. With it rooted & OC'd it runs how I want. I also don't have it on a V contract, I have it on PagePlus and only download & stream when on WiFi saving me ALOT of money.
So I have a great smartphone that does all of what I need, most of what I want, and it fits me perfectly in form and function.
And that is why I still own an Eris.
Didn't this Guy already post a thread like this elsewhere.

Because they are rediculously bad ass considering you can get them on craigslist for less than $100 in some cases.
It was also a VERY popular phone so there are a lot of goodies and rom's that have been developed.
And it runs Froyo very well. So the only things a new phone can do for an Eris user is really more proc and RAM. And I don't really 'need' those things right now.

Give me the money & I'l upgrade today!
I didn't repost this thread. A moderator must hasn't done this. Maybe they want you to really think about why you like your phone. I loved the Eris. I just have moved on to bigger and better things. My logic for asking the question was not to be a smart a$$, but to suggest that other Eris owners make the switch. Sorry if it offended anyone. You will not see any more posts from ME in this forum.

Anyone know when we will have a working clockwork mod recovery and custom roms? I am willing to test and help in any way I can.

The short answer seems to be no. There doesn't seem to be much activity, from what I've seen in this forum and others, on modding the X2. I wish I could figure out why since the DX is big on everyone's list now, as are other lesser performing phones in Verizon's stable. But, that's the way it is right now.

From what I've been reading in the Droid X Forums us that the developers don't have a Droid X2 to work on. We've even been talking about trying to set up a donation using Paypal. We're still waiting to hear from JRummy on this.

Recovery reboot option(Request)

I've always appreciated having the option of rebooting into recovery on the "phone options" when powering off. Typically if I have already used the dx2 bootstrap into recovery previously I can just power down when im plugged in and ill reboot into cwm...and my old dx and other phones I've seen have it typically. Pretty sure its doable.
So if anyones up for adding it to your list of things to do id be extatic.
Thx in advance.

We don't have an official bsr. In order for the reboot recovery to work, i think the script calls for Koush's signature, or something like that, and our recovery doesn't have the proper sig. Not only is it a hacked up recovery, it's an ancient one. I don't see recovery ever being added, unfortunately.
Oh, btw, wrong forum.

Xodus is correct.
We were all excited for a while when koush got an x2 bout a month or two ago thinking we would finally get a "real" x2 recovery option. Its a little frustrating to see almost EVERY moto phone except for us have that option. And the only "real"x2 difference between our phone and others is our tegra2. I can't see that being the reason we can't get this option. It Has GOT to be doable if someone would just put the work/time into creating it.
Well, don't they have one for the Xoom? We need to see if we can port some of the Xoom hacks. The only difference REALLY are honeycomb and the screen size(right?).

For inquiring minds they're don't know, an unlocked bl allows you to flash cwm to become THE recovery; no bsr or hacked jobs needed.

Cuz XOOM SHIPS with unlocked bootloader of.course
This is what the x2 needs desperately if we ever want to see some.permanent fixes for.performance issues we have had.
I swear someone needs to unlock this caged beast. @Motorola I'm looking at you. STOP LETTING VZW BULLY YOU INTO PERMANENT LOCKED BOOTLOADERS. THEY ARE BREAKING THE LAW!! AT LEAST LEAK US SOME.OPTIONS OR.PUT A METHOD OUT THERE FOR US TO USE...doesn't even need to be official on their website....just send it to a newb in the x2 forum and let em spread the news lol....AAAAGGGHHHH
.
/end rant sorry
Ya well even though we aren't unlocked...it would seem that some sort of autorun sequence for the two commands in the dx2 bootstrap could be programmed to run one after the other in the background at the push of a button on that menu. But it couldn't really be that simple -_-

Logic seems airtight. I mean, if you can push the button in System Recovery and it'll boot to charge mode or recovery mode then why can't the same commands used to perform that action be used as a reboot recovery option. I'm no dev. I would imagine if it was that easy, it would've been done by now.
"Reboot widget" from the market is a good alternative for now....

Seems to me the charge mode is the weakest link in the chain. The normal boot sequence is dependent on encryption and system checks, the battery animation doesn't require so much security. It would make sense to me, after reading the cvpcs blog about 2nd init, they could use 2nd init to hijack normal boot, but that sounds like a total pain in the ass.

ya XOdus...with nitro and masta being basically the only two devs for the dx2 I figured I'd just throw this out there and hopefully someone reads it. If i were savoy with making roms I'd be all over it, but hopefully just my train of thought may help someone with their endeavors in making their rom worth while. Nitro put our bootstrapper in his "eclipse parts" so I would imagine he might be interested in advancing farther.
We have it on the bionic. We're locked plus have to use a bootstrap. Ask around in that forum....
It's on Th3ory's ROM.

I can do it but you still have to be plugged into the wall. I found it kind of pointless since you need the app to toggle it back to charge mode if needed.

A farewell.

Hi all.
My wife's phone recently played out for the third time within a year (D2). When they replaced it this time they sent her a completely different phone.
Well she liked my DX2 better so I got the other (sam strat) phone. I had planned on moving to another phone in the not so distant future but looks like I got moved sooner then I thought. (Still gonna get a different phone in the near future)
The DX2 community on here is incredible, and I am sure that goes without saying and everyone of you guys and gals know that! I will miss my phone and the community but it's time to move on I suppose. I wish you all the best, I am sure I will stop in from time to time to check up on things.
DK, your an awesome Dev. and I think more so then that you seem to be a super guy from what one can get to know someone else through communicating over the internet / forums. Thanks man for all your time and effort!
GL all.
Don't be a stranger and be sure to stop in from time to time. When I got my Gnex, the thought crossed my mind that I may not frequent the DX2 community as much. But I just can't let it go. Other areas here on XDA just don't offer what is abundant here. By far the best on the web, hands down.
Best of luck in your future endeavors...neighbor!

I'm rockin AT&T's Atrix 2 on the 4.0.4 ICS leak and I still come in the X2 forums to try and help when I can. Had my fun on the X2 from Eclipse to CM7 and CM9 so I know whats what with the device as well. So thats a +1 for me as well. Stop by, give people a hand once in awhile when you see a question you know the answer too. Good luck. Cheers!

Guess I will see you over on rootzwiki then? They have a forum for the Stratosphere. Rooting+flashing isn't so bad once you learn how to use odin. It's definitly a lot easier rooting the x2, but oh well. Still stuck with 2 or 3 roms too which are all tweaked versions of stock because the radio interface layer is locked by samsung. They say we're supposed to get ICS(only reps, no official updates), but won't give out any dates or anything. Oh well.
I reccommend tweaked 2.2. Pretty awesome!

last Wednesday, call to motorola and I spoke to him on our situation, they said to me that he should wait for future updates of its application for desbloque for developers, but I believe that alone sound lies of motorola, we know well that the Photon, on having been unblocked, loses 4G and this would be a loss of money for Sprint in a cell phone that many persons still use it since this one is provided with a high performance.
Android phones is provided a free code system, motorola always like to make us waste our money with a limit systems and locked.
Google need to stop this for the user like us that like to be in the rom kitchen.
