[Q] Phone reboots when I try to set Google Docs as default - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am encountering an issue with my phone when using Google Drive. I also have ES File Explorer installed, whose latest version appears to be able to download or open Google Docs files as well. When I try to open a file in Google Drive, I get the popup asking which program I want to use to open the document, if I select Google Docs and tap 'Always', the phone will reboot, if I tap 'Just Once' the file opens normally. Anyone else has experience with this issue, or is able to help resolve it? I have tried reinstalling the apps and clearing their data, and failed to solve the problem.
I am running XXEMC2 (BTU), rooted with Perseus Kernel and some CPU tweaks. Yes, my CPU is undervolted but I have not suffered any other crashing / bootloop / hanging issues with the phone. I can reliably trigger this reboot by trying to set Google Docs as the default app for opening Google Docs files.

Exactly same use here. Once works, 'Always' always hangs and reboot. Galaxy Note II, CMW, stock rooted.

Same problem here -- running Jedi Mind Trick on Samsung Galaxy S II.

It looks like the latest update to ES FIle Explorer works around the problem (which their description claims is a bug with Google Drive).

As of today, bug is still here, with version 3.0.5 of ES Explorer, dated from July 14.

Use another file explorer .

missing market apps on nook tablet

I rooted my nook tablet with the SnowballMod root and everything is working fine, but some of the apps in the android market are missing. I have tried editing the build.prop file and clearing the market data and cache to spoof the market, but it still wont work. does anybody have ANY ideas?
theres not some, more like a lot and thats normal cuz its happening to everyone. apps that dont appear on the market have to be downloaded as .apk files and then transferred to your nooks sd card i use drop box and es file explorer for this procedure
how would i do this? how close are the people to fixing this and being able to install custom roms? i need facebook.
sideloading if it is not working from market.

Copy the .apk to the device and select it in a file explorer program.

It's not technically broken. The market should not show you apps for which your device does not meet the requirements. That doesn't meet they don't work, but that you have to install them another way. After updating my phone to ICS, I had to sideload Tapatalk, since it is not "technically" compatible with ICS, even though it does work.

1) Use the web app (it's pretty good, and doesn't have any background processes)
2) Look for the thread in the App section titled "[download] Facebook, Twitter and Google+ apk"

Installing Gapps over an existing Gapps Install

Long story short, i have had the Droid razr for about a month and as soon I got the device, I flashed over the Black Widow ICS rom. Everything worked fine and smoothly but then a noticed a problem and hopefully you guys can help me.
There are updates for various Google Apps (Gapps) that i installed when flashing over the ROM. If I look at my apps within the Google Market as a whole, under the Installed tab, nothing needs updating. But for instance, if i click on Gmail, theres a update for it.
So first i was like cool, Ill try to download it. Downloads fine when it tries to Update, it says " Error - Package file was not signed correctly. Uninstall the previous copy of the app and try again" I understand what the error code means so I think to myself, "ok ill just delete the app and download using the Market."
Go to Manage Apps, and all i can do is Disable the so-called app but i cant uninstall it. So i thought, "ok ill try to uninstall it through the Google Market. Nope, the only two options are UPDATE and OPEN.
So i need you help. Should i download a newer version of GAPPS or is there a easier way to uninstall so i can just re-download it again.
Thanks EHB
Use a root browser (like es file explorer) make sure the /system is accessible and root enabled.
Go to /system/apps and delete the .apk for it
Same thing happened to me with the Arctic rom, maps wouldn't update, so i just got maps from the market after deleting it

Use Root Explorer as then 2 apps above is not powerful enough to delete the system file. Be sure you are on R/W mode, you can check on the upper right part of Root Explorer. That should do the trick.
You said you flashed a new Rom, which means you know how to use recovery. From the text it shows when you install a GApps package, it deletes the old files before adding the new ones. Now, I haven't actually looked at the install code but I wouldn't imagine Cyanogen or whomever the builder of that package is, would lie about something that thousands of people use?
Anyways, just try flashing a new GApps package. A few of the ones I have flashed have had Gmail included while others have not.

[Q] google play crash after 4.1.2 from samsung kies

so my sgs 2 that i bought in hongkong few years back finally updates to jelly bean 4.1.2 from samsung kies since it got released few days ago
but now google play store always crashes
"Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped"
what should i do now? ; ;
i've tried clearing cache, restarting the phone, still happens
Hope this help
I experienced the same problem this morning. Here's how I solved it.
Go to setting then Application Manager; Find Google Service Framework and delete the data; Find Google Play and Uninstall Update then Delete Data; Reboot the phone and go to Google Play. Everything should work fine.
I also find that ES File Explorer can't locate my external SD card - Since the logical name has changed in 4.1.2, you need to click the Favorite button in ES File Explorer and then choose your external SD!!!!
Hope this help
thanks sooooooooo much for your method... it's fixed now
i have no idea what you mean with the ES file explorer thing though, i checked under applications manager and i don't see such an app

Can't get modded google play to install.. Tried everything

I think I've tried everything to install the modded version of google play.
-Opening the .apk directly in file browser gives me an immediate fail or a "free some more space" warning (I have the 32gb One and huge amounts of space)
-Running through lucky patcher doesn't do anything. It just completes and there's no change. I've run it patched to android, unpatched to android, no difference.
-Running "install cracked google play" app immediately restarts the phone, no change.
-Flashing a .zip file does nothing.
-Factory reset, install everything from scratch, reboot, no change.
-Remove google play store through manual uninstall, reboot, comes back to 3.10.9 on reboot
Even if I replace Phonesky.apk in system directory with a modded version, it STILL reverts back to 3.10.9 on a reboot. I've tried so many different versions, nothing makes any difference.
Seriously need some help from the experts. I'm running jelly bean 4.2 on AT&T.
Just download lucky patcher tap the toolbox icon, bottom left, and choose install modded Google play. That worked for me.

Try putting the apk into systems/app directory manually. Then reboot. (Also move the original google playstore app somewhere else to avoid any interference)

What does this mean? having same issue... HTC One Android V 5.0.2
Everytime i try to move something manually or use luckypatcher to install as system app the program in its entirety wipes on reboot. The same happens when manually relocating. Been hearing this is an HTC problem with no fix?

[Q] Google Play saying "No Connection"

Well I encountered this issue where Google Play says "No Connection"(Video showing the issue and fix - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B1bSBbaiig)
According to the video the hosts file in the etc folder was modyfied and there was a line added that blocked the server..
The question I have is, How this happened?
Usually via custom rom .
actually, alternative solution is to delete the host file. System automatically replace it once you opened the app again. Have you used Freedom app? That's usually the case for me.

well, tweaking your Google Play Store with apps like Freedom or even Market Unlocker and similar apps will sometimes cause that problem. so deleting the hosts file is the solution. You can fix this with apps like Root Explorer and Root Browser / ROM Toolbox.
