HTC Weather - Live Wallpaper - HTC Desire X

Hi Folks,
just got my Desire X and was wondering why HTC Weather canĀ“t be set as Live wallpaper.. Is there a way to do so?

HTC made the Desire X with 'Sense Lite' as we are calling it. They have disabled a lot of the functionality (clock /weather on lock screen and so on). There's no actual reason I can see fo this, other than to encourage you to buy a HTC One or similar. (Keep in mind the old desire, bravo, can run sense 4.1 no bother). It will backfire as I personally would never go back to HTC again with all the rubbish they are pulling.
You can enable live wallpapers: download the Galaxy S3 live wallpaper, open the app and hit 'apply wallpaper' you can then choose any live wallpapers on your phone.
For the HTC weather ones etc you will need a Full Sense ROM as far as I know there is no other way.

Thx for your fast answer! So this is really hard for me. I hope that the JB Upgrade will bring the weather back to homecreen

It won't. Sense lite again.

and it will never be on stock ROM...

Theres gotta be a load of different apps to this exact thing, i thought i had one but i must have uninstalled it cant you take the application from a similar device with full sense and just re-size it?

Does any custom rom has full sense atm?

Does Live Wallpaper consume resources significantly? I mean comparing to widgets, which is more practical?

Depends what live wallpapers and widgets Some take up too much Some barely Any, the more fancy the more battery it will drain. Imo widgets

A widget that turns flashlight on and off basically nothing until it is clicked. One that goes online and updates data regularly world consume far more battery.
Just a small example but it entirely depends on the widget/wallpaper.

HTC Sense for the Atrix!!

Ok so we all know you cant actually get HTC sense ported to the atrix but I came up with a combo of apps that work as a perfect mirror of it.
Launcher: He launcher- use this to add the Sense style lancher bar. Lots of options for sense style
Wallpapers: Pyramid wallpapers- Includes all your favorite HTC wallpaers
Clock: Fancy widgets pro- Tons of sense style clocks, H7C is closest to stock
Sense Animations: Fancy widgets Pro-Enable it by clicking on the weather icon on the clock>menu>configure>Advanced>Enable forcast animation and enable unlock animation.
All apps are property of their owners I take no credit for design or funtion... just the pack of them together
Wow I was just checking here to see if I could find this. Taking this inspire back to exchange for the atrix

Nice work! So how long til the Sense port is complete? An ETA would sure be nice!
I have a confession guys... I traded my atrix for an htc desire hd plus 100 dollars yesterday. I have only had the desire hd for 1 day and I'm already trading back to the atrix. for those tempted there is no going back to a normal phine after using the atrix.

Haha I know I went back to my heavily customized nexus one (temporary brick) and honestly I was a big fan and didn't like to think it wasn't as fast as newer devices but I notice it in apps I notice it in swype... I know I said this with my n1 but this phone with more mature software will last me for a long time.

Hm... I selected fancy home, but it still gives me the ugly clock without the skin. (I've tried applying it several times)

Has anyone else noticed that some of the apps in the is missing in the home drawer. I have at least 2, Angry Birds Rio and Samurai 2, which are installed but not shown.
There has been a little piece of wondering if I would have been better off getting a HTC instead of the Atrix... But now with big thanks to this thread, I have everything wanted in my 1st Android phone... And a hole lot more.
Now if I can find the weather widget or live wallpaper that has the windsheild wipers when it's raining, I'll be the happiest newbie on XDA.

[Q] CM9 with HTC Sensce clock and weather widgets

I've always wondered if it was possible to use HTC's widgets (specifically the clock and weather widgets) on CM9 or any other custom rom for that matter. I've always been limited to only using Sense custom roms because I really enjoy HTC widgets. Thanks!
Sense widgets only work on Sense ROMs

even more so with the Sense 4.0 version being much better than the older ones, unfortunately, it's one of the trade-offs of switching launchers, or to AOSP ROMs.

I believe that Sense apps and widgets are proprietary and require libraries that are only found in Sense ROMS. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The problem is all sense widgets work off the sense framework and sense resources. That's what makes it difficult to port to a aosp Rom.

I was hoping to come back to this thread and see better news. So is it official? No HTC weather or clock on any other roms? HTC really messed up with the way they handle multitasking in my opinion. That is why I need to go to a different rom. I just want to take the clock and the weather with me
see the thing is. it wouldn't necessarily be all that difficult to port them over its just that they can't... their HTC's widgets not googles. there is weird licencing and such around it which is why you can't find anything that looks JUST like them in the market and why they have never been in aosp roms or in launcher other than the htc launcher that comes on htc phones.

So are you saying the creators of these roms may get sued by HTC if they included the clock and weather widget in there rom? Or are you saying it is impossible to find these widgets because they aren't a simple file or apk? Sorry if this is a basic question

both, they're APKs, but they're also 100% completely tied to HTC's Sense framework and files, so they're never gonna be found outside of a Sense ROM, and it's also why they're not available outside of the Sense launcher.
You could try:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627140
Sense is built DEEP into the ROM. You can't just rip a piece out of it and expect it to work
Or, you may want to look at these -

How's sense compared to other skins?

So I'm still debating whether I want this phone or not. I currently own a galaxy nexus and I must say I like stock a lot. Ive never had sense and I wonder how it is compared to stock. I played with it at the store but I don't think it's enough to determine whether to purchase or not. I hate touch wiz and the moto skin but to me sense has always looked nice. Is it clunky or cluttered compared to stock ? Does the skin make the phone lag at all? Just some information about it would be nice since everywhere I read says it's ugly or bad.

You hate moto skin ? The new one looks great on the razr m... Ok but to your question the sense skin is simply beautiful. They really took the time out to make it look great and the gpu can definitly handle it well. Keyboard sucks tho. And i wish they incorporated true mulittasking lioe touchwiz and lg ui did... One thing you will hate is that sense isnt optimized for the big display so luch homescreen and app drawer is wasted. This can be fixed by using nova or any other launcher.

Sense is fine and it runs fine on the DNA, it's not as intrusive as Touchwiz and it's not as simple as untouched Android. However that's exactly why I don't really like it. With my Nexus phone I get to experience the real android that I know and love. I get updates quick and I get to enjoy watching Android get better and better.
With my Samsung devices I know that I can't expect to get the latest from Google but I actually really like touchwiz for a lot of it's own things. Before the DNA I had the S III for a while and I loved certain functions like swiping with my palm to take a screenshot or putting the phone to my ear while texting someone to call that person. I loved being able to easily play a video on a corner while texting someone or just checking anything real quick. Touchwiz in my opinion manages to feel like a completely different experience.
With the Droid DNA, it feels like I'm just using a nicer looking version of original Android but without some of the nice things like swiping from my camera app to see the gallery right away and flick away pictures I didn't like. Not saying this is a bad thing, I'm sure plenty of people absolutely love that. Personally, i think it's lacking, but I still think the phone is amazing, I'll probably end up getting rid of my Nexus for a Note 2 and then adding some nice rom on this one to make it look Nexus...ish.

I personally love HTC Sense. However I have come to love the stock android experience.
Ive used sense from OG EVO, Evo LTE, and now DNA. Sense does some pretty cool things and its VERY polished. On the DNA there is no lag and thanks to the 2GB or ram i wouldnt worry at all about it. Ive never had a single issue with it. Its really organized and easy to find what you are looking for. I would say that its the most complete android OEM launcher. Icons are very polished same goes for apps and widgets. I really dont get why people dont like it... whats not to love about it? sure stock is wonderful but sense is just as good if not better.
Someone else mentioned multitasking windows. a side note to that... its only supported by a few samsung devices running crapwiz and its very under developed. Not even avail. to US devices (without root, please correct me if im wrong on this, i dont want to mislead anyone)
I would say Sense kinda ruined the rest of android launcher experiences due to the fact that Its just really that good. I dare you to give it a whole hearted run through and tell me that it just isnt all that... go ahead try it.

Those are just the widgets though, Sense is much more then the widgets. For example, you have all the great sharing options, the cool animations, lock screen widgets, and all the widgets you mentioned still have their apps you can open. So no, you don't lose sense just by switching launchers, you lose just the nice widgets, and you can find replacements for most of them in the play store. :good:

The Sense seems like an alternative launcher, where as the Touchwiz makes itself seem like a different OS entirely, due to all the Touchwiz gimmicks integrated through out the system.
I honestly love the Sense UI. I've used it since my Incredible, and every custom ROM I've put on that and my Rezound has had Sense. I don't find that it negatively affects performance in any way, and (for me at least) it greatly enhances the user experience. I was helping my girlfriend set up her new Asus Transformer Tablet running stock 4.1 Jellybean, and also her mom's new SIII, and the lack of widgets and functionality from Sense that I've now taken for granted was seriously bothering me. Plus, Sense is pretty

How to reduce 'battery use' on settings?

Hey guys im just playing around with my new phone and I check on settings>power>battery use and I find out my 'screen' is 59%.
It is not that big of a deal but would better if it only takes at least 40% and below. That would make the battery life last even more.
I already test on removing all the HTC widgets on sense and try to reduce the brightness a bit but that's the minimum I can get which is 59%.
I'm new to HTC phones, so could it be the sense launcher?
Or maybe freezing or removing sense and use other launchers instead such as nova, the screen usage might be reducing even more?

Hi,
This widget is not included in any stock rom. It is part of full sense, which is in roms such as mySENSEdx. I'd suggest to have a look at that. There is no way to get that widget on a stock rom.

Damn! It's so sad that HTC included so much useless widgets and deleted that one. But thank you for the quick response!

Well...
There are only like a dozen different clones of the HTC flip clock widget.
1. Beautiful Widgets
2. HD Widgets
3. Fancy Widget
4. Sense Flip Clock & Weather
5. 3D Flip Clock & World Weather
All of these will work on any ROM on any phone, some are even free. This is one of the most cloned Android programs in existence.
Enjoy.

Unfortunately, this will never be "ported" exactly. Since HTC likes to sue everyone who made a "clone" of their flip clock widget.
I would personally recommend HD widgets, you can make a flip clock that is very, very, close to the HTC one.
