[APK] [MOD] Side load CM10.1's MMS.apk for AOSP texting + more - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Themes and Apps

Edit 2: Various replies below are currently offering up to a $50 bounty for a fully functioning CM MMS.apk for SGS4 TW
EDIT: This will work for regular SMS, but crash for all send/receive MMS. Recommended to wait until MMS will work properly.
<Insert typical disclaimer here about possibility of messing up your phone. You assume all liability/risks.>
Attached is the MMS.apk from the latest CM10.1 nightly. It includes things like emoji, notification quick reply, notification mark as read, custom vibration settings, and pop-up SMS.
I am successfully running this on my stock, rooted, AT&T SGS4.
1) Root SGS4.
2) Use an app like Root Explorer or a simple 'adb push MMS.apk /system/app' to get the MMS.apk onto your phone.
3) Drop MMS.apk into /system/app
4) Reboot. On reboot it will REPLACE SecMms, the Samsung one with hover view. However, since the Samsung one uses a different file name, if you simply remove MMS.apk from /system/app you can revert back (as SecMms still exists)
5) Profit
Extras: Yes, it can still be used with Multi-window. No, hover view does not work. Yes, you can also just run the apk and install it, but I always feel safer dropping them in myself.

I was so excited. It installed and appeared to work great but it crashes when sending MMS. This really is the single think I want more than any other is a stock SMS replacement.

Ah, you're right. Shoot.
Looks like to fix that I'll need to decomp framework and make some tweaks. I'll see what I can do and let you know...

does this one still have group chat in the settings? and does it have emoji? i remember having it on a old aokp cm10.1 hybrid

Looks good. I will wait until MMS is fixed.

Sadness. My baksmali and smali tools aren't working correctly. Can anybody else who knows what they're doing accomplish the following?

I'll give it another shot later tonight...at work now...

thanks so much for this
couple things i hate about TWZ is the SMS/browser
i love AOSP for their simple stock apps
SMS is working perfectly for me - MMS isnt a huge thing since i dont use it often
So far i have AOSP Browser/SMS...does anyone know if AOSP Phone and Contacts will be able to sideloaded too?

I really am wanting mms to work for this. Hate the stock messaging

Hey I've got a black themed one for anyone who wants to use it? There are two variants, both are named accordingly and will need to be renamed before choosing which one you want to use.
Regular layout MMS Black
OR
Bubble layout MMS Black

Thanks! Just what I wanted.
By the way, after installing this, does this add an extra page to lock screen? I have two pages showing up clock and date. Also, is it possible to get quick reply in the lock screen without ever swiping to unlock to reply?
TIA

You probably have two lock screen pages because you added two, this nor the other sms apk would add another page with a clock on it.
Go to your lock screen and swipe across the clock to the left until you see the plus button then hit it. Add a random widget.
You'll now be at a zoomed out state of all the pages of lockscreen widgets you have.
Drag any page up to the top until it turns red to remove it.
As far as quick reply i don't think so edit, i think thats just how it is. The default app notifies you of a new message on the lock screen and you click it then swipe to unlock and thats just how touchwiz works, you'll also notice no quick reply from the notification bar using the samsung sms app.
Using this apk you should be able to quick reply from the notification bar meaning if you just have swipe to unlock and no pattern or pin or anything you can pull down the notification bar from the lockscreen and hit the reply button there and that should work.

I uninstalled Mms.apk and went back to original Samsung messaging and that extra page disappeared. First pic is a my lockscreen looks with Samsung app. Second one is pic of lockscreen with custom mms.apk installed and with the original lockscreen being a second page. Ideally I want the Samsung lockscreen because it shows active alarms.
I am able to drag the Samsung screen to remove but it still shows after. I can't drag the other screen nor can I make the Samsung page my default page when I turn on the phone
I also disabled multiple widgets.

I found that mms works when I use Rom Toolbox to attach the pic
Edit: Attach the pic using Rom Toolbox....once it attaches to the text, click view and have gallery open it to view it. Press back. Click send. Done.

Greyblur Theme Only (CWM) - updated 5/3/11

So at least there was one request for this so here it is. I tested it and it seems okay. This is based on Ken's 2.1 GreyBlur which I think is still on ATT's 1.57 rom, it does work on 1.83 though. Just like the gingerbread only theme, everything is stripped out to just basics.
Although I tested it, I am not keeping this theme, I prefer gingerbread look. So if you find some issues, post here maybe I can take a look. I am not that great a editing either, just learning.
Thanks to Ken for the rom base, and for jim and noattch for various editing tips!
---------------
V2 - based on greyblur 2.1 (att 1.57) but works on 1.83 tested
preferred: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VBYT7BX3
mirror: http://www.multiupload.com/EDPGZ06NS1
- updated with gray menu text so works on third party apps like root explorer.
Add On
Themed Mms.apk with darker grey icons so it shows over the light grey status bar. Backup your old Mms.apk.
- Flashable zip for the Mms.apk only --> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KD1154LB
-------------------------------------------------
V1 - based on greyblur 2.1 (att 1.57)
preferred: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4PASFIB9
mirrow: http://www.multiupload.com/A1ZSSWSIDE
- first boot takes a while, there isnt a real bootanimation so all you see is the GreyBlur text for a long time, but don't worry it's working lol.
oh i forgot, in the next version I'll update the menu text so it appears correctly in third party apps, sorry about that.
Hey, I was the one who made the request, you are AWESOME. Installing this now, can't wait for the updated version so I can use my apps right haha.
Btw, what widget is that in your notification bar?

Yep. That's how it works.

Wait...so is this the GreyBlur theme from the quasi-rom, or is it the batman theme in OP's pics?
yes its the greyblur theme from that rom, the "batman" is just my personal wallpaper
Nice! Thanks. After pushing the GingerBlur update, I don't think Ken is going to get to a GreyBlur update for a while...this is the next best thing.

My only gripe is when I flashed the theme.zip, when I get a new text it doesn't show the message icon, it only lists the name of the person sending it and a message. Other than that, incredible work.
Edit, I take that back, it's just really really really faint. If you could somehow make the icon black, it would show up perfect.
Is no one else having this problem?

App icons are controlled in their separate APKs. This theme is just for the system, it doesnt theme apps. Sorry. You can change it yourself though, pull the app from your phone (system/app/*) and go into the drawables folder, and replace it. then push the apk back where it came from.
EDIT: or much easier, just rip the proper text messaging APK from the greyblur rom and push it to your phone now, pretty simple. Keep in mind it will be on 1.5.7 since i dont think he updated greyblur to 1.83 yet, but I doubt much has change just in the messaging app.
Edit2: updated OP with themed mms.apk
I dont have this problem because I am using a third party messaging app, Handcent.

please read my post above. This theme does not theme apps.
I read what you said. I just need some clarification as to what you mean by the 'messaging app'. The one I know is the messaging APK for greyblur 2.1. Yes. I know about that one.
So are you saying to pull the messaging app from greyblur 2.1 and replace the gingerblur one located in system/app ???
will that fix the message notification in the notification bar?

go into the greyblur rom, look inside system/app for the messaging APK. That one is themed for greyblur. Just replace the one you have now with that and it should be okay.
Can you also take a screenshot so I can see what you mean.
when i look in the files for greyblur, i can't find the messaging one. on gingberblur it's labeled mms.apk and is 513KB. on greyblur i saw one that says messaging.apk however that one is only 28kb.
i'll take a screenshot and show you what i mean.

Replacing Icons ?

Hello all,
I am running Check Rom V6 right now. I have 5 icons, dialer, contacts, messaging, home, and apps. I was wondering if someone could guide me on how to use these icons. They are all in a .png format. Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks

What launcher are you using? Most allow you to replace icons with ones of your choosing, you'll just have to put them on your sdcard.
If you're wanting to theme icons at the system level, or your launcher doesn't allow you to select a custom icon, then you'll have to modify apks.

Send me the icons and I'll make a flashable .zip for you that will change them, hassle free ( plus a recovery one so you can revert them if you don't like them ).
It's 2 minutes of work
Edit : I figure you want to change them while using Touchwiz, because replacement launchers do it easily anyway

Not strictly true - although it is an app drawer replacement.
Can change icons and names with this, my favourite ever app ever of all time ever.
As I've posted before, if there's an easier way to edit icons/text and retain functionality, I have yet to find it.
Especially because I couldn't modify an apk if my life was at stake...

Get ICS AOSP apps on Sense 3.6 Evo 3D [UPDATE-2] [+Calender App]

Hi all, I have not created the mod or apps. So all credit goes to the people where I gathered it from. Just thought of sharing it here because it was hard myself looking for it all the way. And since I found it, I'd like to share it with you guys.
ICS Notification Bar. Flash in recovery and you're good to go. NANDROID PLEASE. (Changes phone settings to stock ICS too) (Credit to VladBelsky, got this from his forum): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?h42x34ar49xk5t5
ICS Messaging Application (Doesn't replace your default app, freeze it in Titanium): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?g1rufbrrkbra6sb
ICS Gallery Application (Install as a regular .apk file and it DOES NOT support 3D pictures for obvious reasons but still a good eye-candy software to have on your phone ): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fb79eppsoxfki3d
ICS Browser - For-Real (Install as a regular .apk file BUT IT DOES REPLACE your default HTC Sense Browser so I recommend you make a backup of it. Though as far as I've noticed, it's faster, better and smoother in many ways.): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?2a4k523jvufjkw7
ICS Contacts Application (Flash via recovery, would not replace your regular HTC dialer): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?oyo19m5afnhef09
ICS Email Application (Not that much of use to me but still thought of sharing, Flash via recovery): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?8s8cs5xf0imxjqx
ICS Calender Application (Flash via recovery, not sure if it replaces the regular calender or not): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?dbzviddbbkgwb7m
I found Contacts and Email on a One S forum. Tried out on my Evo 3D and it worked perfect. Though I got disappointed by the Contacts app as it still uses the regular call screen by HTC Sense. Lets wait till a complete port shows up. Other than that, the app works flawless.
I'll update this thread soon as I love AOSP apps and I keep looking for them always. I have a few more in my phone that I'll transfer and upload by tonight.
Hit thanks if you like and after digging so much, I think I'm ready to take requests.

Both worked for me, just flash the statusbar and install the mms apk. I wish we were able to have the ICS statusbar but keep the leedroid drop down settings. Also, the mms doesnt work with the sense locksreen notifications. Other than that both look and work great!

Umm, I haven't tried that but you can always NANDROID and experiment new things. So do try and put down a feedback. And yes as it is the official ICS status bar, it must have support for 4G. Cant tell any more as I'm on GSM. Sorry..

This is a 3d gallery apk, just like aosp version. I'm not sure if pics work but I tested videos and they work perfectly...
http://db.tt/4RrWz19z
Disregard, I think I had a faulty backup for those who read....
Confirmed. If you only want the Status bar and not the Settings to look like ICS AOSP, simply remove the Settings.apk.
I'm sure it'd work if you'd only want the Settings and not the status bar.
There are no FC's or anything like that. If you want battery percentage, you can just flash the battery mod for ICS.
This is bad ass thanks! Makes it look way better while still having sense
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Now if we could only get AOSP lockscreen, I'd be SOLD.
EDIT: Percentages did not show after I flashed the ICS battery mod.
Also, I renamed my mms.apk to mms1.apk, and copied the AOSP mms it into system/app as stated in 2nd post.
Except I never used Titanium, so no freezing. It did indeed completely replace my mms app. Works great.

[Q] Hills Theme

Hi there,
New to Themer, and liking the idea so far.
I have downloaded the theme Hills (screenshot attached). Love it because it's very simple.
To make it even more simple, I have removed the background, and am loving the idea of a simple lack screen with clean look.
I am hoping to be able to ask the developer to create another version similar to my other screenshot. It would be really handy to have unread email, text and calls, maybe in a neat box just like the time, or better still just a small black and white icon, that a number gets superimposed on, a bit like the stock samsung S2 can do.
Also, would love to have another three, customizable, icons on the seconds apps home screen. I like having an icon on homescreen to turn on a flashlight etc
If anyone can get me in touch with developer, or tell me how to modify this theme the way i'd like, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

I am hoping to be able to ask the developer to create another version similar to my other screenshot. It would be really handy to have unread email, text and calls, maybe in a neat box just like the time, or better still just a small black and white icon, that a number gets superimposed on, a bit like the stock samsung S2 can do.
Also, would love to have another three, customizable, icons on the seconds apps home screen. I like having an icon on homescreen to turn on a flashlight etc
If anyone can get me in touch with developer, or tell me how to modify this theme the way i'd like, that would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

We recommend trying out the widget - Everything Widget. It's very easy to use and you can always export your theme (via the advanced settings) if you want to keep it for later

I have a similar problem. I created another screen and i want to replicate the app drawer icon on the bottom but I can't find where the picture of the icon is saved to. Is there any way to access the icon pic?

You must use the download as if you just save the PIC you can see it will lose its transparency
All the best

Dialer app

Previously I was running Cyanogenmod with what I guess is original Google dialer.
Is there a way, how to install it, or aftermarket, which is as close to it as possible, without root?

Customize Dialer?
Is there a way (preferably without root) to modify/customize the "in call" screen on the Galaxy S5. I am not talking about the Dialer App itself but the screen that comes up once you place the call. I want to be able to move the "end call" button from the top right spot to the top middle spot to make it easier to reach with either hand.

You cant do it without root cause it needs to modify system apps.
If rooted it is possible. I themed mine like this which will be available in alliance roms next update

Hello,
I read this today somewhere and this is exactly what you meant. I get my S5 tomorrow so I have notbeen able to test it yet, but it should work on any kitkat device.

I got the Google dialer working on my S5... You need root and if you want to make any dialer fully 100% with out any use of the stock one, you need to do a lot more then just have the app in the priv-app folder. Once I've worked a few bugs out, I was going to either package it as a zip, or give it to a rom development or two to use as an add-mod to their rom(s).

Wondering if you can share the steps you followed to get GOOGLE DIALER working on the S5 ? I tried to install by putting in Piv Ap, changing permissions and rebooting - and no luck - it FC's when i try to launch it every time.
If you can share the steps you took to get it working - even if I have keep my original phone ap for taking calls and GOOGLE DIALER for making calls - that would still be cool -
If you think it is too complex and difficult, I understand - but if you can share what you did - that would be very cool -
thanks

Well.... So far:
The good
• App will open with no crashes or force closes
• Search will search your accounts for contacts and Google for people / businesses.
• You can place a call
The bad
• Samsung app is still used during a call.
• Samsung app is still used to receive a call.
• No contacts button
The Ugly
• Removing Samsung's in call app will still allow your calls to connect, but you get no GUI so you can't hang up.
• Removing Samsung's phone app (not being used anymore) will cause zero signal and two com.phone error popups on boot.
• Google Contacts FC when opening
Bonus: info on other Google/AOSP apps
The Google and AOSP SMS/MMS app can be used and fully replace the Samsung one. Why is this good news? Because those apps have the quick reply (popup when you get a message) Kind of like the iPhone but much better :victory: I have a few different themed versions and get some more and will do a post with the info (and credit where credit due) tomorrow.
The AOSP browser likes to FC
Other working apps: Calculator, Clock, Email (even exchange bypassed), File manager, torch, gallery, pretty much everything else besides phone and contacts... I'll add them to the same post as the messaging app tomorrow. (Will be flashable zips)
On good news... Once the CyanogenMod ROM is finished for S5, it will be MUCH easier for me to get the dialer and contacts working fully 100% on Samsung's touchwiz framework.... I had them working flawlessly on my S4 before I busted the LCD... Nothing beats touchwize framework with Google/AOSP apps and style

I dont usually use aosp apps but to let you know stock mms does have an option to enable pop up messages and includes a quick reply too.
For phone it does use both secteleservice (secphone) and incallui for the phone features. That is why deleting the teleservice resulted in no signal because that app basically does the phone signal and pre call functions while the incallui controls all incall functions. So you would need an app and probably libs to replace both.

Any chance you can share that black Seccontact apk. Looks Great. I've been trying to theme it myself without much luck.

And where would the setting be for the popup with quick reply?
If you're thinking the quick response snippets, that's not the same thing. And looking at the settings for the stock MMS app (see attached screenshots) there is no pop-up setting or anything close to what the aosp/Google MMS app has
