[Q] Get DNA or wait for DNA+ - HTC Droid DNA

So by now the rumored DNA+ is gonna be a reality, the specs are mainly the rumors at this point. My question is, do you think the Verizon version of the One or probably DNA+, is gonna be released sometime in June? At this point I believe enough people know about the One that if Verizon borked their version no one would buy it, so I think their version is gonna be the One or maybe have a slight spec bump. Do you believe itll be released sometime this summer or at the end? I can hold off on getting a DNA if the + comes out in the next couple monthes, not if its more than 2 monthes out.

All of these are rumors so no one entirely knows what big red will do. If your patient I would wait. Expecially if you want to unlock root and s off because right now the only way to do that on the dna is jtag. So if you can't go without root and custom roms then I would wait unless you feel like jtag.

I would be really surprised if verizon did not get the one.

So are there any pics yet of this so-called DNA+? I would think if it were to be released anytime soon there would be some sort of leaked pics, specs, or something by now. From what I've gathered just from brief looks at the ONE the phone isn't even cdma capable so I would assume if a version did come to vzw it would be completely different than any version of the ONE available now.

HTC confirmed that there is a butterfly 2 in the works. (The butterfly is the international version of the DNA) and the phone might come out july-ish. That's the rumor anyways.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

And, of course, add a minimum of two months for that Butterfly 2 to meander its way onto VZW.
Personally, I don't see much point in waiting 4-6 months for a phone whose only substantial differentiating features will be a 15% faster SoC and Sense 5, unless you still enjoy your current device.

Anyone else tempted to jump ship to the HTC One?

Just curious on what other LGOG users think of the HTC One announced today? I had the international HTC One X and really liked the phone, the camera was leaps and bounds better than the one on the LGOG. The LGOG camera, IMHO, is just ok.
The reason I left the One X for the LGOG was because AT&T lit up LTE in my area just as the LGOG was launched. I didn't hear great things about the One X+ so I went for the LGOG.

I'm really conflicted about it. I really love my LGOG after the N4 Conversion (with fixes, of course) but I also love my sister's HTC One which has a better display, and camera (IMO). I don't know... I'll probably check it out when it comes out but keep my LGOG till my contract ends.
Is it true it's only coming out 4.1.2? Just curious curious and no om enjoying my LG too much!

Me too. At least the development was fantastic though.
Nope. I came from the One X (AT&T variant) and while the camera was top notch, the locked bootloader, 2.20 root fiasco and a pretty locked down device isn't worth it. It was also my first HTC device and after experiencing Sense firsthand they can take that crap and shove it. It kills the device and is about as laggy and bad as Motoblur in it's heyday.
Now having vented about it I will say this, the device is still within the family AND that dev community here on XDA is topnotch and first rate. Very helpful to noobs and very, very good at getting the device blazing fast and customized.
HTC is just not for me as far as manufacturers go and I won't ever be owning another one unless it's free.
Man what are we going to buy? I got a moto one time. Everybody swore they would not buy another. So I got a sammy. Burned again. So i thought ok its because I'm not buying flagships. So I got the vivid practically on release day. Worst decision ever. Now I got this phone. Which I happen to love. U know every phone I own eventually got Aosp. I think it just does not happen fast enough for some people.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Not at all. HTC makes good devices, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to unlock the bootloader, for OS upgrades (I never count on AT&T providing support for the devices that they sell). In addition, the LGOG more than meets my needs for the foreseeable future. Why spend money if I don't see it as a meaningful upgrade.

Bah. If you don't mind switching carriers it is easy to break the contract, sell the old phone for most /all of the ETF. So getting new phones isn't really that hard financially - If you are willing to change carriers.

This is what I do, except I don't always switch between VZW and AT&T. Most of the time I can buy a phone outright keep it for 6 months sell it and buy a new one. It's amazing the deals you can get on eBay and Craigslist. If you do it right, you are out of pocket $200 to $300 a year which is what everyone pays to get a phone on a 2 year contract.
Posssibly. It seems a neat phone, but I will wait for the reviews. I'm getting more and more hiccups and glitches in my OG, and I believe at least 2 are hardware. I hate HTC, but I like metal phones and stereo sound. We'll see.

I came from HTC evo 3d , rooting , unlocking were fairly easy, it was getting the s-off that was a pain! I don't know if anyone had the "wire trick" fun lol. But after all that I had 4.2 cm10 and man that device screamed!
Now , I have never owned a lg but besides the slow go on development, which is just because the phone is so new and waiting for true jb release to att . I love this phone! Took me a while to get over my flashaholic nature , and with aosp to come out any day I'm excited!
The camera is sketchy, but if your trying to take professional photos, get a real camera in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't think I'll ever look back at HTC ,
Its not about what you know , but who you know.

Walmart document reveals Verizon HTC One to replace DNA

http://www.droid-life.com/2013/03/1...ving-on-verizon-this-month-replacing-the-dna/

So in the next 2 weeks? Call me skeptical... to say the least. Also if that's the case then I probably wont be getting the One because I'm 6 months out for an upgrade. Guess I'll get whatever's after the One.
I am leaning more toward that the one will replace the dna in wal mart stores due to space constraints, but vzw, amazon, etc will probably continue to sell it
That is disappointing but alright at the same time.
All it has over the DNA ( most likely ) is the camera and development crowd from being global.

I saw this coming a mile away and people hated on me like no tomorrow. The first minute we heard about the One, I said that the DNA would be dead to HTC and Verizon. They were just too similar and it was obvious the One improved on some of the cons of the DNA. It was almost like "oops, we made some mistakes on the DNA, so here is our real flagship now".
With that being said, I just got a DNA again last week and am enjoying it. But let me be straight....If the rumors are true and Verizon is getting the One or even their own variant of it, I will buy it on launch day without even thinking twice.

I actually made $50 to get the DNA last week lol. I traded someone my Note 2 and he gave me $50 for me to take the DNA off his hands.
When and if the One becomes available or gets announced officially, I will sell my DNA for $400-450 and either get the One for a couple hundred more off contract or use another one of my upgrades.
I usually never come out of pocket more than $100-200 to get a brand new phone. You just gotta work it and don't let your devices get too outdated. I absolutely love getting and flipping devices for a new one withing 6 months to a year. It's fun and actually doesn't really cost much. Especially compared to other hobbies which can cost much more.

Pretty glad things came up and I didn't upgrade to the DNA 3 days ago, that would've hit the regrets pretty hard (not that I don't like the DNA; but I do have a preference for the One and there seems to be issue with rooting the DNA with the OTA. I was really wanting to install sense 5 on it)
I've been sitting on the verge of my upgrade, contract ending on the 22nd. Will probably pick up the 32GB variant, going to assume the phone will be good enough for me as is without root.

Dude, you don't even know lol. I'm not married (yet), but my girlfriend just laughs now and calls me crazy. I have literally been through about 5 devices in the past 6 months.
I went from my S3 to a HTC 8X Windows Phone (I had to try it lol) to a DNA to a Note 2 and back to a DNA. Not to mention shortly before that I had a Droid Razr Maxx.
I'm a phone whore and I happily admit it!
You guys are kind of jumping the gun. Walmart choosing not to carry both phones doesn't mean the DNA is EOL or that other resellers will follow in their footsteps. So VZW may kill the DNA in favor of the One but they haven't even officially announced their carrying the One yet. And a "Droid" branded device helps shore up a brand they've spent a ton of money building so there's room for both if they see fit.
Regardless.. Eol or not, I'm not bailing on the DNA, knowing that a newer better phone cycles out all the time... No real reason at the moment.. I'll wait to see what's up next
DROID DNA 5
Yea most definitely. However, if I could go back three weeks I would have waited for this. I had the PUK lock issue today for first time...all Verizon store did is reissue me new SIM again...maybe if the issue happens again (which it will) they will give me a One...

Yup, and I really don't remember many devs leaving the One X to go to the SG3. Maybe a couple, but we still have many of the same awesome devs we had at the start, and then more that came on later. Possibly due to the price of the device dropping over time, and getting into the hands of more devs.
Will a more popular device have more devs and more ROMs? Sure. But as long as you have "enough" development, who really cares about the actual number of ROMs?
The performance specs of the 2 phones are very similar, but the One is obviously the better piece of hardware from an exterior "industrial design" standpoint. The SGS4 is just a rehash of Sammy's cheap plastic casing design. Devs aren't going to ignore that.
This is a flagship phone and it's coming out on multiple carriers.
You can bet there's going to be support. It's not like one of HTC's throwaway phones like the Rezound or the Sensation.

I would expect development for the One to be better than the already-great development for the One XL, because my understanding is that the international One and the LTE One are identical - at least development-wise as opposed to the One X, which had a community split between the Tegra 3-based One X and the S4-based One XL. It's also a really good sign that a couple of kernel sources for the HTC One are already available as-of last night.
The only real question is whether or not the AT&T HTC One will be rootable/bootloader unlockable.

Yeah I asked Torxx in the Trickdroid thread about this and he said that his rom should flash on this phone. I've also read that there's virtually no difference between any of the One's except for network bands supported for different carriers/regions which has no effect on rom flashability. Just enter in your correct APN for your carrier and away u go
I believe there will have support very soon

Possible DNA2 specs revealed

http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/19/htc-butterfly-s-revealed/
It'll arrive boasting a familiar-sounding 5-inch 1080p display, front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers and Sense 5 as expected. When it comes to internals, the Butterfly s runs Android Jelly Bean on a quad-core 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600 (faster than the HTC One), an impressive 3,200mAh battery, quad-band HSPA/WCDMA radio, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, expandable once again through microSD. As for imaging, alongside that primary UltraPixel camera and Zoe software features, there's a 2.1-megapixel wide-angle shooter on the front.

Some people have already backed me up but just because I like to defend myself if you'll notice I said possible. As mentioned the Butterfly is the International version of the DNA. Thus one can speculate that the DNA 2 would be a Butterfly Variant. Just because no N.A. carrier has opted to yet doesn't mean that they wont. If Big Red is gonna carry it you know they'll wanna brand it their way and to their specifications. Just thought I'd bring some news to the masses.

It does seem contrary to VZW's historic ways to release 2 devices so similar so close together.
However, VZW tweeted about 2 weeks ago that they WOULD be getting the HTC One.
This week VZW tweeted that there is a new Droid coming. They certainly could be referring to the same device. But the DROID DNA is very similar to the Butterfly, so the fact that there is a new Butterfly coming certainly adds a different element to the discussion. Also, the Droid title has historically been applied to a phone NOT in general circulation on other networks in the U.S.
I too haven't seen any direct confirmation that there is a DNA2 / Butterfly 2 coming to the VZW. But I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 new HTC devices launch on VZW, perhaps with a 60 or 90 day difference in the launches. The fact that there have been numerous sales on the DNA certainly leads to the conclusion that the DNA is on the way out ...

Agreed. You also have to think that perhaps they think they can cater the DNA 2 as the big brother to the One. I'm personally thinking along the lines of Motorola with the Razr and Razr Maxx deal. Personally unless you're just going for aesthetics (which apple has proven people will) I see no reason why you'd pick the One overthe Butterfly S. So it may very well not come to the US at all but if it does Samsung had better watch out because HTC is dropping some bombs on the front lines with these new devices.
I agree that they *could* release both like the Razr HD/HD Maxx. But they should just release one. While this is the superior device, if this was released as the Droid One or something you would have people moaning that they said it was going to be the HTC One and expect the device that is out now. They should have kept quiet and released this as the Droid ONE in the fall.
Seriously looks like it could be the DNA 2. With VW hyping up another Droid and is selling out the DNA, I wouldn't be surprised.

Post DNA Plans?

If you're like me, you're ready for a new phone every year around this time. I was hoping to see a DNA2/Butterfly2 from HTC, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. Alternatives are few unless you want to go Max-sized with the HTC One Max, but at 6", that's just too darn big. I thought the Note series was too big, but the Max has even topped that.
Anyway, for those of you looking to move past the DNA (don't get me wrong - it is still a GREAT phone, especially running Viper 2.0!), what are you thinking?
Maxing out with the One Max? :cyclops:
Settling for Samsung?
Trying to Live Good with LG G2?
Or just holding out until something better comes along?
I voted for the One max in the poll above, but honestly I might be turned away by the huge size. I already have trouble typing one-handed on my DNA sometimes, but the expandable memory and huge battery would be a nice upgrade for sure.
If the size puts me off, I'll probably just wait for whatever follows up the HTC One. I'm grandfathered into unlimited data anyway, so I'll likely be buying whatever my next phone will be either at full retail or from eBay/Craigslist/Swappa.
I was really looking forward to the One Max. I wouldn't mind the bigger size because of the idea of using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard on remote desktop. However, now that the specs are officially released by HTC, there's no way I'm settling for the Snapdragon 600. Considering other recently released devices are using the Snapdragon 800, like the Note3, HTC is making a huge mistake with the slower processor. I'd like to stay with HTC, but I'm not settling for a 600. I'm starting to lean towards a Note3 but I'll probably wait for the price to come down a bit.

Do you want to stick to HTC, because the G2 is a nice phone

I'm giving serious consideration to the G2.

That's the phone I'm waiting for. Giving up Verizon and my unlimited for it. But it will be worth it. I miss the Dev support that came with my gnex. Also not having Verizon mess with my updates will be nice for once

Nothing that's a big enough improvement yet. The One is barely better than the DNA, and the Max is just a blown up version of the One.
Nexus 5 likely won't be on Verizon, so I'll be waiting for next year's flagships.

The specs are not that impressive on the N5, IMHO.
I plan on staying with the dna for quite a while. Nothing out right now really catches my eye and is convincing to drop my dna. I hate Samsung so I'm just going to end up waiting for the next best HTC phone.

I just traded my Note 2 to the DNA. LOVE IT so far.

I pulled the trigger on the DNA when Best Buy was giving them away. So far I am loving HTC coming from Moto only for years. I hope when it comes time for another upgrade there will be another awesome HTC phone for a great price.
I will most likely end up with the HTC ONE or a Nexus 5. Probably the One though. I like sense 5 way too much and the One is too solid of a phone to pass up.

Post DNA plans?
The DNA was my first phone on Verizon when it launched. I'm not due for an upgrade until late 2014. If I had to choose a device from the current crop, i'd pick the Moto X or the G2. But I'll wait until 2014 to make a real decision, but I would like to stick with HTC if possible. And by possible I mean if HTC has a device on Verizon with a similar screen size but higher ppi, much larger battery, more storage and the latest version of Android.
But that's what everybody wants right?
I would get the HTC One Max as soon as I could :upgrade or no..... I'd buy it the day it was available.
The new size is perfect for what I want in a phone.
But because I am into esthetics and the feel of a phone: that "rubberized" back cover, and I don't think I will ever see that style again, I'll keep the DNA.
I never cover my phone with a case!
iPhone 6
I'm sticking with the DNA for now.
One Max = too big for my personal taste
N5 = wont be on Verizon, and due to company rules, I dont have (or really want) another choice of carrier
G2 = nice... but not a big enough upgrade/difference for me to pull the trigger
Its interesting because with CM 10.2, I really feel like my phone is running so well that for the first time in a long time, I'm not itching to upgrade. Very weird feeling. But I think its due to the fact that there isnt a single app/game that I use which has problems or lag on the DNA.
Truly a supreme phone.
Yeah I love my DNA slick thin light but feels solid as do all HTC phones in my opinion. There really isn't a phone out or coming out that would make me feel jealous. This phone benchmarks with the best of them and we have a slew of roms out. Plenty of development by top devs who know a thing or two about fixing these issues we have.

I'm going to definitely stick with HTC if at all possible. If they updated the One with wireless charging, possibly a 5" screen (current size is good too) and the latest tech, I'd bite as soon as it came out.
