Mobile Broadcast since going to CM10.1 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
Since I've upgraded my GS3 to cm10.1 - I keep getting mobile broadcasts saying '020' which is the London area code, why do these keep coming up? Ive tried to disable them but I've run out of options
Please help

pointless post, fair enough he could search but also you couldve explained more about the rule/guidelines.also its said that if you have not anything useful to post then dont
- to the O.P i think you need to look in your messages folder and its somewhere along the lines of service messages that will need disabling

Was not talking about the first rule. People should not post before reading the rules, there's nothing pointless about that

pointless as in meaning your not helping anyone in any way,let the moderators do there job and if you get the urge to help them then rightfully press the report button and report it,

Thanks to the person that actually helped. Looking into it that way. The other guy, don't mini-mod.. He's right, if you want to report the post, go for it - otherwise don't try bump your post count up here.
Cheers

I'm also getting this. turned off all mobile broadcast options in settings and still getting them. they are only area codes like 020 or 0170 etc. or strings of area codes like that. quite annoying

Suggest one of the CM discussion threads .
jje

Turn alert notification ON in mobile broadcast but untick everything else.
I have no idea why it's backwards, it just is.

Had the same problem (in UK too). Quick googling suggested to delete "Mobile Broadcast Receiver" application. Since then no broadcasts anymore!

Post What Where:
General - general technical discussion items, news, anything else that does not fit into the other fora categories.
Q&A (Questions and Answers) - all questions, irrespective of type, get posted in here whether they be theme related, accessory related, technical, etc.
Accessories - any items to do with components and/or accessories relating to your device.
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Themes & Apps - anything to do directly with the development of themes and/or applications. Nothing else goes in here.
MOD EDIT: BEFORE POSTING ANY THREAD IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
It is NOT the place to post your question because it gets higher traffic, or because more experienced users frequent it. Doing this just annoys those who are working on the device, and drives them away. Developers don't want to wade through 20 threads of "Help me urgently" to find their threads for porting and fixing camera issues etc. Similarly, if a thread is designated as discussion for developers say, porting a camera fix, please do not post in there asking "When will it be ready?", "Can I flash this yet?" etc. This is both completely disrespectful to those working on the project (you evidently haven't read the important posts in the thread), and also is making it harder for developers to find comments from other developers or testers when required.
Similarly, don't make loads of "Thanks for your work here" posts in an active development thread. It's just as annoying to developers as asking when something will be ready. If a ROM is complete, then go ahead and thank the developer if you wish, but don't go into threads for devs only, and interrupt it to post "thanks". It's basically spamming, and is treated as such.
If you are posting in development, you should have read every sticky and notice there, and should be actively developing or helping in the development of something. Developing isn't installing a ROM, or using a tweak, it's creating a ROM or other hack or tweak. If you haven't read for several days before starting out on XDA, you are likely about to ask something already solved. I registered on XDA when I first wanted to post, and that was to join in a discussion on something. Sure, join up and ask a question, but read the information available in General and Q&A first, as your question will have been asked before. Search is your friend here, become familiar with it.
Regarding when to post in development if you are not actually developing something, there is one occasion where it's acceptable. If you find a leak of a new ROM, which isn't already posted, and you verify it's legitimacy via either running it, or based on the source you obtained it from, then this is assisting in development, and should be posted in development. If you want to ask when a leak will be available use search first, then if not already in discussion, open a thread in general or Q&A.
If you have a problem flashing a ROM, this is NOT related to development. It's up to you to determine if it is specific to a particular ROM, and post useful information in that developer's existing thread for the ROM. If it happens on more than one ROM, and isn't a known issue (remember you should read several times more words than you post), then find out what you are doing wrong. Check guides written by others, try to repeat the problem and see if it happens every time. Something needs to be reproducible to be fixed effectively.
Once you have identified what you need help with go to the device Q&A forum (general if device lacks one), and make a clear, informative thread that explains the issue, and what you have tried doing to fix it. Did you re-download the ROM? Did you ask a friend to flash it for you, to reduce chance of user error? What steps (exactly) did you follow? What errors did you see (exact wording)? Did you double check all the steps? Did you do a wipe or hard reset?
If you make a clear, concise, yet detailed post, you will find help forthcoming, and should get the problem sorted very quickly. If someone suggests you try something, report back on what happened, did it work etc. Then, next time someone has this issue and searches, they will find this and have a verified and tested solution.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

Then are you sure you have put your apn settings back to your phone? If you are using any unbranded firmware like the Global or Nordic you'll need to put your MMS, APN settings back to the phone manually...
Do a search within the Q&A forum or Google to find out what your career settings are...
PS> You can find the settings in the next path:
Configuracion>Redes Inalam. y redes>Redes Moviles.

Thanks for your reply!! I put the apn settings, and also my sim provider sent me a configuration sms. I check it out and everything is ok, also I have another x10 and everything works well with the same configuration. But this x10 doesn't try to connect if wifi is off, it always says that there is no internet connection available. I've tried many things but it doesn't work anyway...

Even with all apn settings ok, it won't connect... I really don't know what to do, this is the first problem I have with my x10. Do you think It would be ok to downgrade to 1.6??

that`s odd
try downgrade and see if it works. If it does upgrade again to 2.1 and see.
If still doesn`t work go to store and reclaim warranty

The "Reply All" function in SMS

Sorry in advance if this has specifically been addressed. Doing a quick search didn't seem to cover it.
And I started an exact thread over in the Inspire 4G General forum, not knowing where to post it. As I understand, this would be a better place to post this question.
Is it possible for the experts here in XDA to write something into Android's code to allow for a Reply All feature in SMS, like in iPhone's SMS? I'm thinking the Reply All feature must be unfixable because there is conversations all over the internet for people requesting Google to fix it. Some have even stayed with Apple because they would miss that feature too much.

There are 3rd party apps working on this. Only google will be able to add the function to the default and to be honest it doesn't seem high on the list
Scroll to the bottom - some hope it seems..

Thanks for the link. Hopefully this gets put into Google's basic code and baked into Android.

Indeed this supposedly is put into AOSP JB 4.2 ROM's natively now. I just hope I can get a ROM for my Inspire, but if not, at least it'll be there for future and some present phones.

[Q] Where is the Search Function?

Is it just me or did the search function on the XDA site suddenly disappear? I wanted to find something in a very large thread this morning, and the search function is gone. I checked a few other threads; gone from those too.
So, if people are constantly complaining that other people aren't searching threads for answers before asking questions......but there is no search function....how is that going to work?

Noob here: Can someone give me a quick how-to to a nice/simple/fast Android build?

Just bought this and it seems there are so many options to choose from and so many old threads.
I'd like a rom with 0 issues. I frequently will use contacts, check email, want condensed messages and calls, firefox, GPS, facebook, camera, bluetooth, usb storage, tethering, wifi-router.
Can someone please post an easy how-to?

There are no roms with 0 issues. Even WM has issues. There are no 100% complete (and easy) how-tos specific to a single rom as the only version that is officially released to the best of my knowledge is FRX07.1. The GBX version are better I feel (I run GBX nand as my daily)
Android SD is not to hard but corrupts it's data.img file easily if not shut down properly. Android Nand is challenging if you have never flashed anything before.
If you wrote your request like this, you would get a lot of more willing help.
"I am new to the flashing world. I want to learn, and I realize I will need to read a lot first. Could someone please direct me to the best and most current threads so I can educate myself. Thanks for all your help."
We are glad to help, and point you in the right direction. We do get tired of spoon feeding people in a dev forum.
Read all this, and then ask your specific questions and/or post in the thread that covers the Rom you are trying to load. Also the more info you give us when you have a question the better. Your carrier, type of phone, the trouble shooting you have done is all mandatory. Logs can be very useful too depending on what the issue is.

Moved to Android general - this had no business being in the CDMA section...
OP, perhaps you should ask a specific question, and it would be best to post in the build/ROM thread you're using - that way we don't have to guess what build/ROM you're having an issue with.
Thanks.

Autolock when out of reach of Wifi?

Hi There!
I have got an idea for application, and I am not sure where else to post it as I do not consider this a question, more likely an idea, if this is wrong section, please move the thread somewhere else.
I am not sure, whether application like this exists already, nor could ever be created, but the idea is simple. Basically, I am connecting to two different wifis during my usual day. One in work, second at home. Now I have my phone connected with Work exchange and a lot of emails are confidential, which is the reason, why I have set password on my lockscreen, to prevent anyone getting into my phone in case I would loose it.
These two wifi networks, are however very safe place for me, and place where I use my phone the most, and typing in the password every moment when I need to access my phone is not effective, and can get quiet frustrating.
The idea was, that the phone would automatically switch off the password protection, if connected to one of those networks, and when in out of reach from those networks, phone would again required password to type in order to access it.
If you ask me, I guess I would not be the only user of this app, and it might be worth considering and possibly developing. I have never tried to create any application on my own, so I am not sure, whether that would be possible, and something inside says that it might be quiet complicated, but I will leave this to more experienced devs to see what could be done.
Thanks for help/responses
look up an app named tasker. perfect app for you .
