I copy pasted this info for ya from here post 167 and from post 172..
1. Use Odin 1.85 in Admin Mode for Windows users.
2. Install TWRP 2.5 via PDA settings.
3. Reboot phone into Recovery.
4. Install SuperSU via the Zip.
5. Reboot phone and viola. SuperSU is there and works.
Download the Odin Method herE:
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/96
Flash via Odin. Then download SuperSU.
Located here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/204
Then reboot to recovery, flash the zip and all done.

Thank you thank you

In the blackstar thread. Posted by nun.

man i want one so bad

patience grasshopper

When you flash the rom then flash TWRP 2.5, just reboot into recovery, and verify your flash worked. But you don't have to flash the superuser.zip.
As you exit TWRP, it will say you're not rooted, and would you like to do that? Then TWRP will create the root for you.
But, either method gets the job done.

2.5 does not give that option.
That's in older versions.

Well the 2.5 I have did give the option. And I didn't make it up. It was mentioned in the development section so I tried it. I thought it was a very slick piece of work.

Hmm That's odd, I too saw that and thought I'd try it as well. 2.5 did not give me that prompt.
Me being me, I redownloaded, tried again same thing. tested it on the previous version, and only then did I get a prompt.

I uninstalled SU to try to recreate it so I could make sure I didn't just drink the koolaide and it didn't ask. But I think once you let TWRP flash the binary file it won't ask anymore.

I did get it to re-ask if I wanted to root. It flashed the SU binary.
But I did have to also install busybox (I used sterison app).

i foun the deodexed verersion it was just posted by ptmr3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267199

mine as well matter of fact yesterday i flashed a zip and after I wiped cache and dalvik i went to reboot and it said it "appears you have lost root" or something like that and "swipe to reinstall" saved my bacon, thought it was really cool.

no root after OTA....

alright, how bad did I screw up here? Got the OTA notification last night, read nothing but good things and most keeping root through the process. I missed an important detail of using the OTA rootkeeper. So I'm currently on the latest update and lost root. I've tried one click 1.1 to no avail so far. I am unlocked and was rooted prior, but never got around to installing a recovery (hadn't found a ROM I was quite happy with enough to lose all my data just yet)
So.. all that said, is there a root option for the latest OTA yet?

Yes, all you need to do is flash Amon Ra through fastboot and reboot to recovery .. under the developer menu option on Amon Ra you have the option to install SU and superuser . Just run that and reboot you would have to unlock of course to install Amon Ra
Looks like I'm installing AmonRa today. Thanks!!!! I'm from a moto world where CWM and SPR are all we had.. the feature to install SU binary from recovery is new to me haha

Odd, do you have the superuser app in your app drawer ? Otherwise , I heard to download it from the market and it will work .
I did it this way and I read about it from others that did it this was as well.
I need some help, please - I may have made a very bad assumption here...
I just got my Rezound today (upgrading from a Thunderbolt). I saw the stickied thread about how (relatively) easy it was to perm-root the phone after the bootloader was unlocked, and I assumed that this all still applied after getting the OTA update (not realizing that the OTA update was JUST released - my assumption was that it was older and already dealt with).
So I got the OTA first thing after activating the phone, THEN unlocked the bootloader, THEN tried to root via One Click - I tried both OneClickRoot_1.1 and Super OneClick 2.3.3.0, but it doesn't seem to be working.
I'm getting "Permission denied" errors on mounts and "read-only file system" errors for CHMods and file copies during the Zerg Rush process. It says "Congrats you are now perm rooted", but it doesn't seem to be true - I was able to install SuperUser from the market, but the BusyBox installer says it can't find the su binaries, so I'm not convinced SuperUser is actually working.
Considering that I never had root access to the phone prior to installing the OTA, is there anything I do besides waiting for one or more of the root tools to be updated to deal with the new OTA?

I would try the rooted stock rom, but just not sure why it didn't work for you . I did all the steps you did and I was rerooted afterwards. Are you getting the pop up for superuser when an app asks for permission ? Sorry, was trying to be helpful
got it.. had to attempt the SU install twice.. also reboot DIRECTLY from recovery, do NOT reboot back to bootloader. I think that's what killed it for me. And yes in the end I did have to install the superuser app from the market to get it working again.

I'm having a serious issue here - for unknown reasons (I have NOT installed any ROMS or ANY non-OTA updates whatsoever), my Rezound is no longer able to connect to Verizon's network, for data or voice (it just says "no service"; WiFi works fine). As I said in my previous post on the previous page, I just got the phone today, and was trying to use OneClick to root my phone, but it isn't working because of the OTA update, and at some point I think the radio got screwed up.
So my intended remedy was to download the rooted stock rom and install that, but, naturally, it doesn't pass signature verification on the stock recovery. So I tried to follow another set of instructions to get AmonRa recovery installed, but the bootloader keeps rejecting the PH98IMG.zip file, telling me (depending on which one I try to use) that there's "no image or wrong image" or "Main Version is older! Update Fail!". Furthermore, I tried to extract the PH98IMG.zip file from the rooted stock rom file that I downloaded from the link on this site, but that zip file is corrupted (it won't open on my PC, even after I re-downloaded the rom).
Can someone help me figure out how to get AmonRa installed? From there, I can hopefully get the rooted stock rom installed. OR, at the very least, help me run a radio update so the phone will at least work until an easier root method becomes available?
Thanks.

I got the rooted ota rom installed easily, and better yet, the root worked perfectly. The problem is, I still can't connect to any wireless networks (aside from wifi).
I used the tool linked in the previous response to flash a boot.img I got out of this thread (specifically, the stock 2.01.605.11 w/ 1/26 OTA), but still nothing.
Any thoughts?

back. After reboot, I installed superuser from market, then updated the binary.
Titanium Backup now works and I can confirm regaining root after the OTA update. To protect myself from this in the future, I have installed OTA RootKeeper. OTA RootKeeper has been confirmed to backup superuser and is a simple way of restoring superuser after an OTA.
I did not have to backup anything on the internal sdcard, as I did not lose any data through this process, but it never hurts to do it, just in case. I am running the stock Rom, and unlocked through HTC-dev.
Thanks to con247 and andybones for pointing me in the right direction.

[Solved] Yay another soft brick/bootloop!

Yes I have searched, yes I have tried google and yes I am still stuck...
I *think* I have tried just about everything and I have read through about 10 "soft brick" or "stuck on samsung screen after rooting on stock ICS" (and most combinations of) but nothing is working. I'm sure it's probably an easy fix but I just can't seem to get anywhere. Here's what happened.....
I googled rooting galaxy not after ICS update and found this http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...y-note-sgh-i717-icsgingerbreadeasiest-method/
It was all I could find about rooting after the ICS OTA update, so I did it. Everything seemed fine. I had CW but no superuser so I DL it from the market as well as my old Titanium pro from back when I rooted my HTC. I rebooted my phone to get it all settled in and decided to run Titanium and get this party started. I got an error message that busybox was not installed so.... I installed it but when I clicked the app on my phone it said it would not install because I didn't have root access.... This is where the confusion starts to set in.
So I restarted to see if I could get into CW but when I rebooted the soft brick started.... I was stuck at the "samsung" screen.
I IMMEDIATELY ran to XDA and began my search. I can still get to DL mode, Odin and CW so I know there is hope. I tried the files listed in the "All in one guide for noobs" and the "Galaxy Note Super Everything Thread (I717)".
There was a suggestion to use Kies but when I put in my serial # and model name i get the "galaxy note does not support initializing" message.
I'm not new to flashing/rooting, although things are a bit different, I have a basic understanding of the process but I ain't no Einstein either...
I also tried to flash the stock Telus ICS rom but I got an error message and my lil droid guy went belly up....
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I love my note and this is killing me...
I have to go to work so if I don't reply immediately its because I have no email access at work.... Especially without my Note....
The steps are correct in the link you gave.
Did Odin3 say success?
Did you get CWM installed?
Did you flash superuser?
Is there a superuser icon in your apps?
Ranger is on it....
I'm thinking we dont have CWM on the device....????
And no SU flash, from within the recovery that doesnt exist....g
He has cwm, he did not flash superuser, Looks like he assumed flashing cwm would automatically root him.
Since you can get into recovery... i would just go ahead and download a Rom zip, transfer to phone by mounting in cwm (mounts and storage if you didn't know) and flash that sumbitch
Oh yep...found that.......Thanks brother....g
That means do or redo steps 13 to 16 in the guide you posted.
agreed....g
im back...
Just got in, thanks for the replies.
Yes I have CWM and can access it. I have tried to flash the CM roms as well as the stock telus ICS rom but was denied at install. I got a "assert failed getprop (ro.build.device)" message and 2 other "ro." error messages when I install the cm nightly quincyatt rom.

Yup, thats the one I flashed, its working and I get a successful message when I flashed SU so I assume its there also. Any recommendations of a rom to try and flash? Still hanging at the samsung screen.....
I appreciate the help by the way, I know how frustrating it can be to try and help with tech situations from emails and messages (Hi Mom ).
Thanks has been pushed....
That assert error is in the script used by CWM to flash and it is saying 'wrong rom for your device'. So for sure you have the correct CWM and rom for your phone? Just checking because errors at this point make your phone useless.

Holy McCrappy dance!
Okay... so I flashed the stock ATT with odin. just at start screen now.... Don't think it is rooted so now.... How do I get back to telus and root right the first time?
Edit: so it appears the ATT rom was a GB ver so I am assuming that I was somehow reverted to GB instead of my stock ICS. Now to try and flash a stock Telus GB rom, update then try to root.... AGAIN! Thank gawd I don't have a $600 paperweight now!
Thanks everyone
I recommend this rom:

[Q] Problem loading Safestrap

Hello,
I followed the below instructions from the attached link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441
The problem I am having is after I use the “Install Recovery" button my phone goes through the install process and prompts me that I have installed Safestrap however the State of my phone says not installed. I assume that Safestrap is not installed did I do something wrong? Thanks
I also attached some screen shots as well. Phone specs: Verizon S4 Saferooted on Build VRUEMK2, Android 4.3
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
1.Requirement: Root
2.Requirement: Allow APK install from Unknown Sources
3.Download the Safestrap APK
4.Find the APK using a Filemanager tool and open it on your device, then click "Install".
5.(If updating from an existing Safestrap you might be warned that this will over-write the existing installation. Click the "Yes" equivalent to this message.)
6.Once installed, open up the Safestrap application as you would any other app.
7.Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
8.Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
9.From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
10.That's it for the installation! Read below for a brief overview of Safestrap Recovery v3.x

Im gonna give ya the best info i can. Im new to the safestrap stuff so bare with me hopefully someone can tell me if i am wrong.
1st:
On the stafestrap page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45517751 make sure you are using the correct SS for your version. There is a MJ7/MK2 version and a ME7/MI1 build.
2nd
If you have ran and installed SS before you may need to uninstall it before you install the newer version. There is instructions on that in the link i provided also.
PS
Make sure if you get it working that you download the correct Kernel Modules for the baseband you are running. Very important.
Hope this helps, but like i said... I hope i can be backed up on this and if i am wrong that someone can tell me that lol

Im running out of ideas but Im gonna do whatever I can to help you get this going. I may be doing this tonight to my girlfriends phone and I want all to go smoothly .
This may be stuff you have tried so just ignore if you have already. Just gonna make a list.
1. Redownload the APK. Maybe its a bad download and reinstall it in your phone. Uninstall your current version and then reboot phone. Then install the newly downloaded one.
2. If you can, maybe find a little older version of SS and try it.
3. Do a complete wipe of everything on the phone and start clean after the factory reset (as long as you dont mind factory resetting your phone) and then try the SS install. (make sure you can install from unknown sources again)
4.Make sure you didnt deny the SS app superuser permissions by accident
5.Buy me a beer and maybe i can come up with something else?. Just kidding ofcourse :silly:
Ill do what i can to find a solution for ya

Root should not be lost. If it does then you can reroot. Yeah all your app / contacts / settings will be deleted. You can using Titanium Backup to back up all your apps. Gmail can back up all your contacts. Settings, unfortunately you will have to redo all these. Also, what are you using to download the SS APK?

Well this process shouldn't be this hard. What I would do at this point is Odin the MK2 no wipe.. so you keep all your data then use Saferoot again to root the phone. Then re download SafeStrap and try again.
Another thing are you opening up SuperSu so it can update your binary after rooting and before installing SafeStrap?

Never thought of that.
Never really figured basically unrooting and rerooting the phone would help, but hey, anything that will work.
Thanks for the feedback!

I mean I actually don't think you'd even have to Odin back either but at this point might as well just start over fresh.
Then root the phone again and make sure to update the SuperSu binary then reboot and try installing SafeStrap again. Seems like a superuser deal to me. I could be wrong... Just something I'd do to troubleshoot something like this

I am a little hesitant to re-root as I had a problem rooting the first time but I got through it. And I am not familiar with the Odin process but I see it all over the forum. Eventually I know that I need to venture out and learn this if I am going to experiment with the S4 and other roms. At this point in time I don’t plan on changing ROMs do I really need Safestrap? All I am trying to do is this 4.3 Tether Unlock MOD? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981
As for the SuperSu updating the binary it did prompt me and I allowed it and I am pretty sure it was before trying to install SafeStrap. Thanks

[ROM][4.4.2][TW] 100% stock 4.4.2 kitkat P5200 [Deodexed+Rooted build also available]

This is a 100% stock flashable zip of the recently released 4.4.2 firmware for the P5200. As it is 100% stock, it is fully bloated, odexed, and non-rooted. If you wish to attain root you can do so by flashing superSU-2.02 zip from chainfire. As of right now, no other root method appears to be working, including towelroot.
Download link below.
A deodexed + rooted build is also available.
NOTE: if you flash the deodexed version and have problems with root, flash UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip from here. I don't anticipate any root problems, but just in case, this will fix it.
100% stock: STOCK-4.4.2-P5200(fixed).zip
Deodexed + rooted: STOCK-DEODEXED-ROOTED-4.4.2-P5200(fixed).zip
Anyone may feel free to use this as a base for their ROM. I only ask that you give me credit.

I've got the same problem.
Hold on, I'm working on it
@edsoedso
@Max4000
I think I've fixed it. Reuploading now. Bear with me.
The problem was a fairly stupid one. I edited the assert to fit P5200 instead of P5210 (I'm using the same updater-script I used for the wifi model stock kitkat).
Problem is, I used mac textedit instead of gedit. One preserves linux encoding, the other does not. Can you guess which is which?
I believe it was Homer Simpson who said, "DOH".
Anyway, edited the updater-script with gedit and just removed the assert completely, so once it's done uploading you should be able to flash without issue.

I know you've already got kk working, but would you be willing to try this zip to make sure it works? I think i've ironed it out but i'd like to be sure. Can't test myself as I have the WiFi model
just uploaded a deodexed + rooted build. If you have any troubles with root flash SuperSU from the link in OP.
do i need to clear data and cache beforce flashing ? cuz i don't have sd card so if i clear data the rom will delete.

I flashed without wiping and had big problems. You should really do a full wipe.

@Restl3ss:
I flashed both versions using TWRP 2.6.3.0 and everything went well. The first unrooted rom after completing flashing offered to install superuser and I did it. The second rom version did not offered it so I rebooted to TWRP and installed superuser from sd card. I am keeping the second version on my tablet. Looks nice and works very well. I will remove some system apps that I do not use and free some additional memory.
It seems that battery is draining faster than 4.2.2. Does anybody note it? Any solution? Thank you!
I have tried the rootet and fixed version, , but it doesn´t work, it hangs on boot!
Installed with TWRP 2.7.1.0, may i have to install this ROM with Odin ?

[SOLVED] Update .570 to .575 to .291 w/o losing root

Hi,
I currently have .570 fw installed with root, dualrecovery, xposed,... and wonder how to update to .575 w/o losing them. Can I just create flashable zip and that's it, or should I use the original guide that I used to update from LP to MM ([Stock][Z2(D6503) 6.0.1 Marshmallow][.570][Prerooted+ TWRP + Xposed][LB])?
//UPDATE: If you want to upgrade too, then grab files from this post and follow "nurps" guide here.
//UPDATE 2 (To avoid misunderstanding):
1. Make sure you download both files from here
2. In PRF Creator, insert your FTF as FTF File, dummy_flashable.zip as SuperSU and RecRootV4_combined.zip as Recovery.
3. Flash in recovery, if you want xposed, flash it separately afterwards.
4. Wipe cache
5. Reboot and that should be it.
//UPDATE 3
Also works for .291!
Well and without losing recovery would be important too. I'm ready with PRF Creator, but where do I get that TWRP Recovery zip from that works with MM?

I'm not sure that we are having the same issue... I am already on MM, with recovery, etc. And want to update to newer version of MM.
btw if you just want dual recovery for MM you can visit the guide I mentioned earlier. You won't get .zip, since it's flashed by adb, but it works just the same.
Yes and when you reflash you have to reflash a rooted image and also recovery, or its gone.

I see.. Now I know what you mean... The thing is... I would assume that you would just flash it the same way you did from LP to MM.. flash ROM (w/o recovery), then flash SuperSU, boot Android and use the adb recovery flasher... But i don't really want to spend hours getting things to normal if that doesn't work. So I'm hoping someone braver already done this and will shed some light on how it really is...
Actually I dont remember how it went, but now that you mention it, than a prerooted firmware should be enough, maybe I'll try tomorrow. Of course a flashable backup would make it easier if anything happens.

Yeah... The problem was, after flashing MM and SuperSU, you had to pray that when Android boots up, you will have root permissions. If not, then it was game over, as you no longer had dual recovery...
Anyway... If you'll try, let me know how it went. I would really appreciate it!
Prerooted PRF creator file didn't work, root is lost.

That's what I was afraid of... Have you tried flashing SuperSU after flashing ROM? I know that you can insert it in the ROM, but just to be sure I find it "safer" to flash separately.
Because I got an error on supersu I actually did reflash it, but the same error message appeared. Should have stopped there and reflashed my backup....I didnt...

And do you remember what error it was by any chance? We could probably find out why you lost root permissions that way...

It's annoying, but at least you won't lose anything, as long as you have that backup... Now, you will have to downgrade to LP, root, flash back to MM, get recovery, flash your backup and done (if you want root back, that is of course, which I would strongly recommend for MM, as there are some things that would really bother me, if I didn't have root).
It's not the best solution, as it takes quite the time, but at least you have backup... could have been worse, take it that way...
Sorry my bad, I Was looking for the ftf now I'm downloading it with xperifirm,, now I'm looking for the recovery and supersu files to try,,

Thats a bit overcomplicated. I wasted some hours to find a rootable FTF though, 3rd I tried (D6503_17.1.A.2.69) worked, then it's just nuts dual recovery (with its own root exploit included) and restore.
For the other stuff I should have kept up, apparently for MM you include dummy_flashable for root not supersu and RecRootV4_combined is actually available as flashable recovery.

So, now you have .575 with root/recovery? And if, then you just create flashable.zip from your FTF and include dummy_flashable, flash in recovery and then flash RecRootV4_combined?
Nope not done yet. Trying now.
