[Q] WiFi not Turning ON - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
During the process of getting IP address from WiFi network, I received a "Error Massage" on my Alcatel OT-990. After this massage, WiFi started behaving abnormally. Sometimes it turned ON another time it did not. Now after a few weeks later, WiFi is not turning ON at all.
I have Tried following Solutions but nothing worked:
1. Did factory reset, erased system, cache etc and Flashed different ROMs (JB ot 990, ICS QME, QLTsar, 2.3.4, Telenor One touch 4.0.04) using Recovery many a times(From different Sources).>>Problem not solved
2. Updated my phone using alcatel update manager to 2.3.4>>> Problem not solved
3. Tried by changing permissions of BCM4329.KO, wpa_supplicant.confg etc every file related to wifi/wlan>>Problem not solved
4. Used WiFix Manager>>>Problem not solved.
Bluetooth and FM radio working all right.
If anybody knows about its solution ..please help me out.

[Q] Wifi hotspot and usb tethering problem on GB

Hi, I finally decided to post my question after many hours searching trough google and xda.
Two weeks ago like many of you I uptdated my x10 to pre-rooted 2.3.3 stock Rom. At this moment I successfully tested wifi hotspot and usb tethering built in fonctions.
But Recently I tried to use it again but any time I checked the option, Android activate it for a second, an then says me "error" under the option name. Usb tehter can't be reactived at all and wifi hotspot can be checked but always uncheck himslef with the error subtitle.
Anyone facing this issue or know where it can come from ? And maybe the fix of course ^^.
Hope I made my self clear because actually I'm french.

I use Baracle to solve the issue with wifi tethering
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.szym.barnacle&feature=search_result
Yeah this is the solution I used to adopte when was on 2.1. And it was the best until the update.
But as far as what I tested when built-in tether worked it's clearly better. Not just an Ah-hod network but a real hotspot. Basically it's easier for other devices to connect and remember the password without configuring everything especially on windows.
And the usb option was even better, nothing to configure, no password, battery charging during tethering.
Anyway thank for the advice, until I get the solution I'll probably continue to use this app.
When you say "solve the problem with wifi tethering", do you mean you have the same one ?
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
Please, no one else, am I the only one facing the issue ? Even on an other device maybe ?
Finally I used SEUS to repare and root it like azazu said. Everything is back. Didn't find any other solution

I have the same problem and it never has been working from the start ! but USB tethering has no problem. The only way to fix it is to re-flash ?
Well I guess this is the best until someone more expert than us find a solution. I made a reparation with SEUS (sony ericsson update service) and then restore all back with Titanium Backup. Remember to save your contacts and sms before (cause Titanium doesn't). It only took one hours to get it all back just like before (root, bravia, Xloud, fps uncap...)
Hotspot error UNSOLVED 2012-02-01
Here's what I've done so far. I've suffered from this issue on two different Samsung Galaxy TAB's 7" (1 generation), two different Samsung Galaxy S2, two different HTC Desire HD, one ZTE Blade.
This issue is NOT caused by:
*Manufacture of phone
*Internet Service Provider (ISP)
*Operator
*Bluetooth ON/OFF
*root ON/OFF
*Stock Kernel
*Mod Kernel
*Stock Rom
*Mod Rom
*Stock Modem
*Mod Modem
*Android version: 2.3+ has this issue. (I've experienced a different issue on 4.0+; the Hotspot is up running although no device can connect to it.)
The only solution I've found is:
(From Clockwork Recovery):
Wipe Data(system reset)
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Format Cache
Format Data
Format System
-Install a Rom (try a different one from what you are using right now).
Reboot
RESULT:
Hotspot working fine....for a while..
When it stops working; you'll have to do the steps above again. Install a different ROM, now you probably can return to your previously ROM which had this issue first. It will probably work. If it doesn't, switch ROM till you find one that works. Sometimes, total randomly; you will be able to use ROMS which this issue has been present earlier.
Yet, this is NOT a permanent solution. You will, no exceptions, experience this issue, on whatever ROM, modem, kernel, stock, not stock, phone, whatever, whatever you choose.
Here's one scenario which I couldn't figure out:
Galaxy TAB 7" 1st generation.
Android 2.3.4
*HOTSPOT ERROR*
WIPE/FORMAT
RE-Flashed Same Rom
*HOTSPOT WORKING*
1 hour later
*HOTSPOT ERROR*
WIPE/FORMAT
RE-Flashed Same Rom
*HOTSPOT WORKING*
5-10 minutes later
*HOTSPOT ERROR*
WIPE/FORMAT
RE-Flashed Same Rom
*HOTSPOT ERROR*
?????
I've also noticed that USB tethering is affected by this issue aswell.
If you have it working, congratulations! Use it while it lasts, nothing stays forever.

[Q] [HELP] Puzzling WiFi Problem

Hi there =)
I've a very puzzling problem with my phone ..
it's started two days ago .. I was reading my mail then suddenly the wifi turned off and start again, but it stopped at 'Obtaining IP address...'
I thought maybe it's router problem, so i restart the router but still the same problem .. then I turned off the phone and took off the battery and tried again .. nothing
then I changed the router to another one .. but still the same thing
removed the password from the router, tried IP address,
I tried 3 applications : FXR WiFi fix and rescue, Fix My WiFi, WiFi Fixer
but nothing worked ..
I've root, so I flashed the original kernel, then the last thing I tried is Factory reset
wiped all the data and cashed .. but none of it helped
I'm using the ROM JPKJ2 2.3.5
any suggestions that may help ?!!!
happens to me at times...
do you have more than one router/switch in your house?
Install wifi analyer (or equivalent) and check which channel your router is using..
is there any overlap with say your neighbours router?
try changing the radio channel on your router or it is has a smart channel switching setting enable it.

it's not a router issue .. I went to a friend's house and tried to connect to his router but it's the same thing .. stuck with 'Obtaining IP address...'
my flat-mate also have SGS2 but the wifi works good with him, I also tried the tethering from his phone to mine .. and it didn't work =/
thanks for your reply =)
Flash a different modem not kernel first .
jje
I just flashed the entire rom .. and it worked =D
but still want to know what caused the problem !! =/
thank you guys =)
How weird????
I experienced the same thing last night, in the troubleshooting that I have done, the WiFi would stop connecting after I tried installing the Roboto Font using Font Installer, it first occurred when I upgraded to KK5 from KJ3, I didn't like the font so I went ahead customizing my device to my usual standards then realized that the WiFi was not connecting, it was stuck on Obtaining IP Address.
I decided to factory reset, nothing, so I flashed back to KJ3 and it was working again, I was relieved, so I installed Jkays Mods and also the Roboto font and Speedmod Kernel, woke up in the morning to the WiFi not connecting again, so I flashed KJ3 with Odin and it connected, I flashed CF Root KJ3 and it was still working, I installed Jkays Mods and it was still working and when I installed the font using the app, it stopped working again, so I flashed KJ3 through Odin again, then flashed CF root and it was still working, this time I used font installer to install Roboto font before Jkays Mods and again my Wifi was stuck at obtaining IP address.
So I flashed KJ3 again and it was working, then CF Root and Jkays Mods and all is well so far, but I fear that it can happen again as I have no idea what is really causing it, and I can't make the connection between the app Font Installer installing the Roboto font and my WiFi being borked...
What were you doing exactly before it stopped connecting....
there's something wrong !!!
the first time I had the problem I was just reading an email from my teacher using Gmail, nothing weird ... now after I solved the problem by flashing the rom I start restoring my apps using My Backup Pro, then i restart the phone and the problem return !!!!
there isn't any new app, all the apps was working well without causing ay problem.
so i flashed the rom again without wiping any data .. my apps still there and the problem solved !!!!
Thus far, it seems the issue for me was the Font installer, I still don't think that I am in the clear, so I would use my phone normally, maybe something will reveal itself with patience
I will keep the variables to a minimum, use the phone normally and finish installing all of my apps, if my phone continues to work okay, I will try a custom kernel and so on and so on, it is good to know that the issue goes away when a stock ROM is flashed though, hopefully that will not change

I'm having the exact same problem with Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 stable. I downloaded daily 116 but found that if I just reflashed the 7.1.0 .zip the wifi would start DHCP association negotiation successfully again.
The problem for many seems to be related to updating busybox installer by Stericson
Just flash over the original rom and don't update busybox

it happened again, but this time I only flashed the modem file from the stock ROM and it worked =)
you don't have to flash the entire ROM

[Q] [HELP] GPS auto on at P780

as subject last few weeks ago I've got this issue, previous months it was working fine.
when my mobile data ON (SIM1), GPS auto ON, tried many times to turn it OFF it keeps back to ON after few minutes.
It's annoying since its drain my battery. Suspect it is related to google location sharing, so I turn it off all location sharing then its back to on again and again. But it is no issue when I turn off mobile data at SIM1 (3G) and connect via wifi also no same symptom when I moved simcard to SIM2 (2G) and using mobile data.
So, first what I did is do factory reset and do ROM refresh trough maintenance mode -- > no luck
downgrade ROM from 124 > 119, factory reset, formating internal and external storage, and do ROM refresh trough maintenance mode --> no luck either.
at this point im hopeless and thinking to move to previous brand which is run more stable. So, any guide or help it will be very welcome before I throw this lenovo :crying:
thanks.

I have a question. Did you try to change your SIM card with a new one or to change your GSM network something like Orange with Vodafone?
Sent from my Lenovo P780 using LiFe v.07 and TWRP 2.6.3.0.
Hi,
I too experienced the same GPS auto on problem. It all started about 2 weeks ago and sucked the battery a lot.
I tried to downgrade my ROW 8GB S124 to S119 original rom, same problem persist, then I tried S123 rom same thing, and now I am back to S124 rom nothing solved. I did wipe the cache, Dalvik, data and andriod secure during each upgrade / downgrade, and also format storage and reset from Android system. Also tried custom rom, not successful in solving the gps problem.
Really haedache with this problem, does it mean that my phone has hardware problem ? Or I have to change another sim card into slot 1 to see if it reproduce the same issue ?
GPS Auto on problem
Hi - I have the same problem. I 'm using Lenovo P780_ROW_S116_130828 ROM. I've noticed that the problem appears only on local roaming. My network enables local roaming on T-mobile. Only then it switches on GPS. As if it was launched by the APN? I've tried to switch off all services with location/fused location/geotagging etc. no luck. Problem disappeared only when it is unable to dial (to many services switched off). If it dials thru t-mobile - GPS launches. On standard network - or other providers everything is ok. Changing modem img to v52 - also no luck. What I know is that whenever I turn off Allow Network Initiated Request in Mobile Uncle Tools (AGPS settings in dev mode) it reappears switched on. Maybe it is the problem?

Wifi and Sim connection doesn't work properly

Hello Everyone,
I'm having an issue on my Zenfone 6 (ZS630KL) android 11, not rooted, that everytime my device lost connection of wifi and sim connection after some time on. Somehow, it reconnects after restarting the phone, until the problem reapppears again. It is quite annoying have to do it everytime, so i try some troubleshooting like: refresh firmware, factory reset, try older firmware; and no success.
Would it be a hardware issue?
I think this problem strange and I would like some suggestions, solutions. If you guys want more information to help me, I'll be available.
