Stripped screw....help? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I stripped one of the screws that allows me to get to the internals of the phone. I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions about how to remove it. I saw someone talk about super glue and a tooth pick dropping the supper glue in there and letting it harden the trying to screw it out. But any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it totally stripped? Using a screwdriver that is not correct may partially strip it but using the correct screwdriver can still get it out.

yea its totally stripped which is why I was gonna try the glue method

Superglue won't do crap. Only option other than trying a different screwdriver is using a dremmel to remove the screws head.

Yes what he said! A dremel is the best way. There's this lil ball grinder tool that would grind the head of the stripped screw off. Click here for pic. You can buy just one at most hardware stores. Buy one a lil smaller then the screw head if you can. The turn on the dremel and grind the head of the screw off! Basically you put the lil ball head in the stripped portion and grind out the center. The outer portion will come loose. The base of the screw will remain. Ask some friends to see if they already have a dremel. They are quite handy if your crafty!

Wear a headlamp for good lighting and go slow.

U beat me to it I was planning to go there dammit lol but Ill try the ball grinder......
and as far as price on a dremel should I buy off of amazon???? or are there places I can get it cheaper dont have a lot of side dough but I do want to get this fixed.
basically looking for a dremel recommendation lol just dont want to buy the wrong thing.
Thanks or all the help so far I really appreciate it.

You can use a drill. Find a bit that's the same size as the head of the screw, brace the phone good (extra hands are helpful) and drill off the screw head.

Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? Or check their website. They have a dremmel like device that has the bits on sale just about all the time.

Cool Ill try out the drill first since I already have that just gotta look through and find the right size bit.

Be very careful with the drill. One slip and it is goodbye phone.

torx screwdriver

what size torx screwdriver is needed to take apart the g1 (htc dream)? i would prefer to buy just the one that i needed instead of a whole set. TIA.
it might be 3
trust me buying an entire set is worth the money. i bought a 15 peice phone toolset with torx standard and phillips heads plus a few prying tools. i use that screwdriver set for my tilt, hermes, g1, and all my computers
Look on ebay for a torx set. I saw a large set with rachet end and tons of heads for 12.99 shipped or something. Came in a hard plastic case as well.

[Q] Tab disassembly

Anyone know how to crack this puppy open? I assume that those are two screw hole plugs on either side of the 30 pin port but I can't think of a way to get them out without digging into the plastic with a pair of sharp tweezers. If anyone can give some advice on how to open it, I'll gladly do it and take photos of the breakdown

I'd love to see this baby undressed! Please, make it so
I'd rather see it blend.
The screen is glued on... You have to use a heat gun or blow dryer to soften the glue and then *gently* pry. I own a mobile device/computer repair shop and most mobile devices now are glued together. Screws make them fat. If you need help let me know.

Thanks for the info! would the screen be the first angle of attack? And If I were to remove the screen in that manner, would I need to clean the glue and apply a new coat?
Also interested in how this would be done... not that I'd do it right now. I've had this thing for about 48 hours with very little use and I can see a spec of dust inside the screen surface. I wonder if warranty would cover that? I'm sure Best Buy would help me out here.
I plan on doing a tear down with step by step guide in the next week or two... Ill post it. You have to use a heat gun and suction cup... Its not as hard as you may think but IT IS DEFINITELY NOT FOR BEGGINERS THOUGH AND SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IF THE GLASS/LCD/DIGITIZER NEEDS REPLACED. You can always message me for help/advice... Its what i do everyday.

this impending tear down is going to answer a very..........bothersome question from another thread.........that i cannot wait for it to go away
Cool. It should be interesting to see how this is done.
I hope ifixit.com does a teardown. I don't see why they wouldn't. They do a lot of devices, and this is the reigning king of HC tablets.

Dropped phone in the sand : (

Was with some girls at the beach, one thing led to another and i dropped my phone in the sand...was kinda buried in it before i noticed after stepping on it.
phones perfect..just some grains embedded in the gap between screen and chassis along the edges like dirt gets stuck inside keyboard.
wondering how i can take it out.
can service center open and clean it up for me?
surprisingly body doesnt have any scratches and phone is perfectly working ...had it been iphone, would ve snapped into pieces after i stepped on it.
Buy a $5 keyboard cleaner and use it on your phone... It's only air so it won't do damage to your phone and do it while your phone is upside down...
Tech support will charge u an arm and a leg.
do u mean compressed air?
i have one of those lens blowers that i use for DSLR..but i doubt it ll work as sand is moist and stuck between the screen-chassis gap.

I think u might be able to clean that sand with compressed air, but not with toys like u shown, or that thingie the other guy suggeested. I am talking about air compressors on fuel pumps for example, for blowing flat tyres. With that kinda blowing, it just might help.

You could always open the case and clean it. Seems to be pretty straight forward. Check out some of the tear down vids on YouTube.

wouldnt that void my warranty?
seems easy to open up though.
i checked with nokia care and since there was a light leak on lcd at left bottom, they will do a repair on that plus clean up the dirt.
only drawback is that it ll take 3-5 working days...compressed air was $15 for a can and i dont think it ll remove the sticky moist sand

If Nokia is going to fix it for free, I would definitely send it back to them for repair. I can't believe the sand didn't destroy the Gorilla Glass.

I wonder where the ants are crawling in through? Around the screen somewhere? Through the USB port? Does someone fancy carrying out an experiment with their Nexus 10 and an ant lol.

Mind you, they are tiny... so either the usb or micro hdmi would seem like the Holland tunnel to them. It drives me batty.

I was thinking about this last night. I wonder if you were to craft some sort of funnel that you could put on the end of a shop vac or automotive car was vac (because they are so powerful) and then put the small end of the funnel on/over the usb ports - could that ant be sucked, maybe not all the way out but perhaps out of view?

It must have been packed in at the assembly plant. if there was a crack or sort of `tunnel` that an ant can crawl in the screen from outside, you will most probably already see plenty of dust under the screen.

I'd be afraid of causing damage to the tablet by using a vacuum that powerful.

Highly unlikely. I purchased it in November...and they (there were two) appeared at the end of March. There is no other dust under the screen. The little guy died and will not shake loose now. Over time perhaps it will decompose enough that I can shake him to an edge. I broke it down as far as I could...but digitizer and display are one unit...and wasn't going to try and pry it apart. My stones are a tad too small for that.

No this took about 10 minutes. I do not wrap the inside of the band. I cut a price of vynl the length and width of the watch leaving about a half inch every way. Cut that in half and laid it on each ending of the opening on the game for the watch (with the watch out). Heated it and then took an exacto knife to cut it how needed. Because it's not on the bottom or inside of the band it feels just as it would without it.
