HTC One as Macbook Pro remote? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

If the phone has an IR blaster is this possible?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

Theres an app called gmote in the play store, to control your computer, it works with windows and mac .

Just make sure your Pro doesn't have a retina. The Retina ones don't support IR unless you get an external receiever.

You could give this app a try

Neither of the two apps utilize the IR remote. I'm looking for one that will allow that. Seeing as the phone just came out, maybe one will show up over time.

Yes, this is possible. You simply use the TV app that came preloaded on your HTC One.
While the buttons aren't labeled exactly the same, you can make it work just fine by configuring a custom remote. Just click through the service provider selection screen, answering however you like even if you don't have service, though I suggest being as accurate as possible in case you want to check listings at say, your friend's house for a football game.
Personally, I configured all applicable buttons: both direction and volume, and enter/play/pause/select, etc. I didn't want to have to hunt for buttons, so it seems easier to program them all, even though another button will do the same thing.
I'm hoping someone will make (or there already is) a custom IR blaster app that will allow us to share profiles for some of the more complicated devices, or HTC will add a "Custom Remote Profile Sharing" feature. This way, you won't need an original remote to copy signals from, and you won't need to use a more root-intensive app if you wanted to copy your configuration to another device or owner.
Please click thanks if I answered your question.

PC screen/control/mirror app

I am looking for a remote control/keyboard/remote desktop app. I have seen several of them in the market, but I have a specific want and I don't know if any will do this.
I want to be able to sit in the livingroom and control my PC that is attached to my TV. I currently use a wireless keyboard, but the biggest issue with that is the text is too small, and I basically have to walk over to the tv to use it. I know there are settings for large fonts, etc, but I use the PC for several things and that change is impracticable.
So what I am hoping for is to have my G Tab in my lap and be able to see the computer screen and control it using the g tab... BUT also be able to see what I am clicking on and the results of those clicks on the TV/PC.
When I use Remote Desktop, it logs off the TV/monitor connection and only routes the video to what ever device is logged in... I want it on both devices. Maybe like the remote tech support people can do on some PC's.
Can you point me in the right direction for an app like that.
I use remotedroid. Works perfectly with the gtab

I looked at this, and it does look cool but I already have a wireless keyboard, with a trackball built in. I like the idea, but it is not what I am looking for.
I am looking for a program that when you look at the G Tab you see the computer screen, and when you look at the monitor/tv you see the same thing. Then you can use the tablet as the control. All movement and visuals are repeated on both screens. Like having dual monitors except 1 is the touch screen tablet. I think PhoneMyPC would do it, but I am not sure.
I use PocketCloud VNC. It seems quite smooth. You might not want VNC though, but it would solve your text size issues, I think.
But Pocket Cloud does not show both screens at once, as the OP is desiring, does it?
boufa, there was a thread around here recently about using the g-tab as a second monitor, so I know it works like that; but I don't know how to control the PC from the g-Tab while seeing both screens. I'm using Pocket Cloud as well.
You guys are great, pointed me in the rough direction, and found TeamViewer.
It looks to do exactly what I want it to do. Full clone of the desktop via Wifi or 3g. I was supprized that it was free for non-commercial use.
I tested it and it works good on my HTC Inspire over 3g, I won't have my G Tab until tomorrow night so I cannot test it until then. I'll report back.

[Q] NFC on the DNA

I'm new to using NFC and discovered that apparantly there are issues with transfering data between different platforms (android to windows) and sometimes even between different versions of Android. Has anyone come up with a way to transfer files between different platforms or does anyone have any tips and tricks to make the best use of NFC? I know NFC tags are probably the easiest answer, does anyone know of the best tags or where to buy them? Thanks!

Can you please explain what you mean by issues with transferring data? Like what kind of data? NFC is for like sending contacts to another phone by tapping them together. NFC tags are pretty cool you can program them to do all sorts of thing from enabling WIFI when you get home or disabling it when you leave. NFC isnt for sending files back and forth from phone to phone... as far as im concerned you cant use it from phone to PC.
Sorry not to be clear on that. I'm referring to transferring data such as pictures and videos between android and Windows phone 8. I've also read that some different droid phones have issues doing this as well.

I'm also curious about NFC. I've never used it before and don't see any kind of app or settings regarding NFC in the menus. How does this stuff work?
It's actually easier to use than I thought. All i did was browse to a contact or webpage and then touch another NFC phone. Once you make contact you'll see your screen change at the top to say "touch to beam" just simply tap the screen to send. That assumes that you have NFC turned on in Settings > More. Also be sure to turn on the Check box for "android beam". My problem was that I thought we could transfer pictures and video from android to windows phone but apparently we can't do that yet, only android to android for that stuff.

Ah, the Settings > More part is where I'd missed it. Thanks!
Yea its really simple android makes it super easy and all you gotta do is turn it on. Currently not too much is supported by it because it is a newer technology give it another year and more stuff will be using it

Voice Controlled TV Remote using Tasker/Utter!

I recently posted a question in Q&A about any TV remote apps that can be voice controlled. No luck. I stumbled upon this tasker plugin by Ozkaya that is awesome. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45572797. It allows you to program your IR remote with Pronto hex codes(many found here http://www.remotecentral.com/ as posted in the Dev's thread).
I combo'd this with Utter! and like magic, I was able to program voice controllable macro's, functions, anything really as long as the hex codes were available. And there is alot of them. I have Verizon Fios and the motorola codes worked for my box even though they weren't the same model. To me, this is an awesome show off tool (and slightly practical if I am eating chicken wings and need to switch between football games!). I literally say "phone" to wake up utter and "channel back" or "ESPN". as a command.
I did nothing here but stumble upon a combo of apps that work great together. If you like the idea please check out the thread and thank the Dev's and support their work. I feel this is one of those gems that slipped back a few pages and got lost. Hope you like it too.
Will this work on stock toch wizz

I used it on Alpha and Gravitron. I don't believe there would be any limitations on any Rom as long as Tasker and Utter! are installed. The rest is just setting up the codes and then setting Utter to use the Tasker plugins.
If someone really wants to get tweaky, here is another plugin for Tasker that will initiate the voice recognition in Utter! when the phone is on charge and the stop it when is taken off charge. Its towards the bottom of the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34339449.

Quick Remote from G2

I've never had a G2, but I understand the Quick Remote app from the G2 has quite a few more device options.
Has anyone tried installing the G2 Quick Remote app on the G3? Anyone have any idea if it'll work at all?
I'm planning to grab the apk out of a ROM or LG App Pack from the G2 forums and see if I can install it (if that doesn't work maybe convert it to a user app with rom toolbox?).
Please let us know how this works out! This has been bugging me ever since I switched to the G3. The G2 remote had the ability to learn a device without the remote being available. I was able to operate projectors and such just by pointing and testing. No remote needed! Now its' just TV, Cable box, and Audio...nothing for DVDs, projectors, etc....

I have both the G2 and G3, and both can learn remotes just as you described. You just select customizable remote when adding a remote.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see what you mean now. There are a lot less options in the new app for some reason.

NP... Yah, if you have the remote it can learn it but the G2 could try and learn a lot more devices without the remote being available. I called LG and they said that the Quick Remote application is different for every device. This seems like a step down in my opinion for an upgraded device. Hopefully someone can figure out how to port the G2 Quick Remote to G3!
I did pull the Quick Remote app from a custom G2 ROM and it did not work. Nothing but force close. That was expected, but worth a try anyway!
I too wound up creating a custom layout and learning my existing remotes. The first time I tried this I didn't see all the button options and thought it was really limited, but now that I've dug into it, I copied the layout of my existing remotes and used the learning feature and it's working just fine for me.
Yes I have done the samething. I now am able to control my entire multimedia rack with my phone. Took some time to setup, but works great.

I have a Sony BluRay player and i lost the remote. how can i set up my quick remote on my G3 if i dont have the original remote?
My G2 had the option for DVD BluRay and many more.
I would recommend the app called "SURE" it's free on the play store and I must say , IT'S AWESOME . Very Quick to set up and works like a charm on my vs985 , I don't even use the quick remote app anymore, this one has a lot more functions , heck even my air conditioner works with it

Screen mirror remote control from Android to Android possible?

Is there such a thing that lets me mirror and control another Android device from an Android device (like Teamviewer)?
Root and xposed is not a problem.
I'm trying to do something similar as in my post on this forum yesterday titled "Video mirroring/sharing between 2 tablets". It's worth trying the app ShareScreen by Spring Design, though I couldn't get it to do what I need. Let me know if you find anything!
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Free mobile app
No this is nothing I can use, the screensharing is just the means to make the remote control easy and effective. I need full control like I would hold the other device in my hand.
Did you try Teamviewer? I had no success but looked like it should work.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Free mobile app
Teamviewer is no use because they sadly don't support Android 2 Android connections. Otherwise it would probably be perfect. Since I mentioned Teamviewer in my first post there would be no reason for my question if it worked.
