Went from a iPhone 4 to the One and I don't regret it a single bit. Only tying I miss is the huge selection of great iPhone themes there are. Android community definitely isn't even close to how the jailbreak theme in community does. But themeing is just so much easier on iOS than android. All images and you could toggle things on and off. Immensely different process on android. Functionality is worth it though. And the Ones UI is absolutely amazing already.

Wat, no.
You're too new to make broad general statements like that about a mod community you are barely familiar with. There are far more themes for Android, and the updates to things like Widget Locker, all of our launchers, UCCW, make it far superior to Winterboard or any of it's replacements.
I think you are still to familiar with iphone modding to make statements like that. Sorry to be so blunt.

I would agree that homescreen and lockscreens are definitely far superior by a long shot. I should have specified that I meant UI wise. I've already made my own concepts for homescreens in photoshop I plan on creating them through all the great homescreen and lockscreen applications that can bring it to life. Winterboard wins over in themeing UI and simple icons. I don't consider lockscreen and homescreen set ups themes. I'm talking about icon to icon, UI to UI. Which is definitely superior when it comes to Winterboard. This is why I talked about loving the HTC one UI so much because that's what I was really talking about. I definitely prefer my homescreen set ups on android though. Far more creativity.

They have full themes that you can download that reskisn the entire phone, including all the dialers, menus, buttons, fonts, icons, etc. It's not like it's not there, it's just people who make it and generally distribute it for free. Winterboard was just a commercialized repository that became the most successful. It's ease of use is what plagues iPhones as being generally simple and boring anyways. Plus, in my own experience with Winterboard, it was buggy as **** and slowed the phone down considerably when it was asked to do something it didn't like.

All I've seen are color mods and such. Nothing major. If you could point me in the right direction that would be nice. And I don't see how Winterboard being easy to use is a "plague." That's why there are so many good themes for it. Also it's not a repository, just a MS add on. Repositories can host themes but Winterboard it's self is just the themeing engine. Also the slow down was only really there on old devices. Had no problems on my 4 and it's nearly 3 years old. And I've never experienced bugs besides there being a summerboard bug, but even in the app it says summerboard is the ancient way of themeing and is slow. Ever since iOS 4 I've never had an issue with Winterboard. It's easy to use and the fact that it's the only themeing engine and isn't fragmented, there are huge amounts of good themes. Of course the themeing never made up for the functionality that Android had which is why I wanted to switch.

I respect both platforms for what they are but I prefer Android. Though I would never use an iPhone if not jailbroken. Believe it or not its not that bad if jailbroken. I still prefer the ease of tweaking that iOS has by a long shot (no flashing roms or zips and you don't need an app icon for every single tweak you get off the playstore with has been really irritating). Also the fact that its 100% impossible to brick an iPhone no matter what you may have heard or think. I'd rather not fanboy over one side. I fell in love with the One since I ever laid my eyes on it. Honestly any phone before the One I wouldn't have ever even considered looking at besides an iPhone. Even the S4 I wouldn't have even looked at. The One is perfect in every single way I believe. Not a single complaint besides the overhangs I have on my device which I don't mind too much. I could complain about Android just as much as I could complain about iOS though. I'm finally glad I'm able to see both sides through first hand account so I know what I'm talking about. My opinions have changed about both platforms after getting the One but I still think they are both great platforms.
The real question i think is Samsung S4 or HTC One ...

I'll never understand when people say flat out that iPhones suck. They don't. They may not be your cup of tea, but they are great products that cater to a specific group of people. I've owned the 4s (which I actually loved) and the 5 (not so much) in between various Androids. While there is no question that I prefer Android, iOS does have its merits. They are easy to use (for a layman/soccer mom), well built, and Apple has HANDS DOWN the best support in the industry. Lets not forget that iOS gaming is light years beyond Android. That said, I couldn't get rid of my iPhone 5 fast enough and it feels great to be back on Android. I am keeping my 5 as a back up phone though.
The HTC One is IMO the first Android device ever that can compete with and even best the iPhone in terms of build and design. There is nothing else like it on the market. The GS4 is nice but sorry, it's a piece of plastic. The One is elegant, sophisticated, and plain BAD ASS.

Coming from the iPhone 3, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5, the HTC One is the closest thing to the iPhone experience I've seen so far. I tried out the Galaxy s4 and within a week, took it back.
The iPhone experience is very well polished and catered to older people and less tech savvy people. The truth, however, is that I started to get bored with the iPhone. I've still got my iPhone 5 and I do hope that iOS 7 brings some new features to the iPhone to compete with Android, but I just don't see it happening. The HTC One is my first Android phone I've owned and so far it feels more like a jailbroken iPhone.

I just like cool toys, no matter what logo is on them It really is awesome not being tied down to one specific brand or ecosystem. Liberating even. I'm that way with everything. Been an Android guy since it first came out, still owned iPhones. I have a Nexus 7 and an iPad Mini, haven't touched the N7 since getting the Mini. I was born with a Ford motor for a heart, but just bought a badass Dodge Challenger. Grew up with Windows computers only, but my MacBook Pro is my primary personal computer. I honestly feel bad for people who are too closed minded to see positives in products that they wouldn't normally buy. And every time somebody uses the term iSheep I roll my eyes- is it not more sheepish to jump on a blind iOS/Apple hating bandwagon than people using the iPhone because it fits their needs more than an Android? I think so! Oh well, their loss.
htc one should compare with iPhone 5 .that is fair.
Iphone is only good for women in my opinion specifically teenage women. They seem to criticize their phone for doing something "stupid" when it was their fault. Remember guys it's never the tech, it's always the user

I couldn't agree with you more. I have owned every iPhone since the original (except the 5) and just got my first Android last week. My new job requires me to test our mobile apps on all devices and I kept finding that I was pretty lost when it came to Android so I decided to get this phone and master the OS.
I've been going through some growing pains, no doubt. There were times I wanted to take it back just from sheer frustration. My jailbroken 4S was a thing of beauty, configured with all the apps needed to do EVERYTHING. Having to start from scratch and re-learn how to do things on a new platform is painful. But I'm not a quitter and I'm going to stick with my One. In all honesty, I'm liking it better and better every day.
But it's weird...I picked-up my 4S today after not having held it in days and it was...euphoric. I was like a crack-addict that had found some free blow after having quit cold-turkey. The 3.5-inch screen might be considered small, but it just feels so perfect in the hand.

Agreed. My jailbroken iPhone 5 is just about perfect for me, but I like the larger screen size of the One and the word wrap in the browser.
I have 4S, the 5 sucks and One is prettier anyway so my Dec edition is on the way.

I'm still on the fence as to whether I should return the one and wait for the next iphone. I admit one of the reasons is because apple has pretty much ball-and-chained me with imessage. I refuse to pay at&t $20 for their one and only text plan so I'm on pay-per-use text now. Since most of my friends/family are on ios texting was pretty much free for the most part. Now I'm getting hit left and right with old school SMS each of which I need to pay for.
Also, for a few days after getting the one I could not receive any messages from friends that use imessage until I figured out how to deregister all my ios devices from apple.
The battery life on the one is also a bit disappointing compared to the 4s.
As for the screen, most of you prefer larger screens but like furious0331 mentioned, people who are used to iphones will find the larger android screens a bit difficult to adjust to. We're used to using our phones with one hand without having to awkwardly shift it in our palms to reach parts of the screen. Still have 10 more days to decided.
Sorry if I sound like I'm trolling. Just expressing my honest thoughts on the one coming from ios. Up until recently I always though android was an inferior mobile OS but that's obviously not the case anymore.

Im debating leaving my 4S for android again and to me in terms of looks and features this and the one x look the best, now advantages this has over the x is 32gb internal (US version of x), 4.3 vs 4.7 (4.7 is huge!) and not sure what else, both sense 4 and xperia ui look great, both look awesome in design, both are dual core, both have fast data speeds and stuff like that. As for the one x it has only 16gb vs 32gb on the xperia s but the one x has LTE on att.
Anyway, for those of you with the XS, what are your thoughts overall? Happy with your purchase?

I will tell you I had a Euro HTC One X last month and sold it. The phone was very buggy. Not just a few but enough to make me sell it. Size wise it was fine, yes big and I have a iPhone 4S as well.
The AT&T version looked good, but I was just reading that users are only getting about 9 gigs after all the bloat wear and apps on the phone. Just not enough IMO.
So I'm temped to get the Xperia, no ICS, but the UI looks good and a good Launcher won't matter.
I like the camera features, though the One X had a few better features, like taking a pic while recording video.
Anyway any AT&T users of this phone, what's the verdict?

Hmm, interesting. I can always stay iphone as well, I have many apps and im sure the IP5 will have a nice res 4" screen, lte, better proc etc AND tons of memory (64gb ftw!), and say what you will but apple build quality is always A+

Taking pics while shooting video is an ICS thing. HTC is trying hard to make it their killer feature, but it actually isn't.

For me personally having tested the one x as well, the xperia is a much better phone.
The two front runners are the xperia and the galaxy S3.
The one x has all the bells and whistles but fails to deliver, the galaxy S3 has doggy looks but delivers a great user experience while the xperia looks the best but only really delivers for the mainstream user. It's not a phone for the hardcore who always want the latest cutting edge specs.
All these phones are much much better than the toyish iPhone. Apple's problem isn't hardware but software. IOS is still just basically an app launcher and I don't believe that'll change much with IOS6.
Steve jobs stuck to the line that fluidity was better than sophistication. Google on the other hand opted for sophistication knowing fully well that hardware would catch up. Google have won there just as Microsoft did in the nineties.
IOS is so inferior to android that I just can't see them closing the huge gulf that exists between both platforms in only a year. Software wise Apple are behind and will always stay behind because of a philosophy that failed them against Microsoft and is certain to fail them again today.
Overall I'd say get the xperia. ICS hopefully will see the phone really shine bright.

Personally for what I do with my phones I see them as pretty similar, its when I start wanting to do stuff like moves files on the phone, apps arent as open in what they can do with the file system and you can basiclly customize anything in android, beyond that to call an iphone a toy is ridiculous, it can do mostly everything android can except some features when you start digging deep, in the end its all about what you need, I consider myself a pretty big tech guy and I rarely run into a situation where Im like "Oh man I REALLY wish I had and android right now!" only times are when using the crappy youtube app (guess why lol), maps could be better, and random scenarios when doing file management stuff.
And yea the GS3 has great specs but but ugly! Like...really ugly lol

Even you yourself have in your response, highlighted quite a few instances where android either can while the iPhone can't or where android can just do it better.
I suggest to you that there are a lot of these instances, and that's right through the operating system. Android carries out most functions in fewer steps than IOS and is more intuitive in just as many ways.
The iPhone like I said, is just an app launcher and that's the stuff of 5yrs ago.
Hand held computing is much more than that now.
The iPhone is what it is, just another 'must have' joker, a status symbol, a very bold neon sign that says ' hey look at me, I'm the man you see in the place to be'.
There you will find the reason for its success and nowhere else.

I don't like Apple, never have and never will for various reasons.
As far as the one x, used one for few hours last week and hated it. It is just full of bugs, too many annoyances to list here. I tried it as I was offered one at a good price, but decided to stick with my XperiaS.

Eh, we all have opinions, I like the simplicity and integration of apple combined with its top notch hardware, and I find Android to be a bit all over the place at times, for me they both have their pros and cons and I can use either, now WP7, thats a different story, I have tried it twice and just cant use it, the font and overall style is amazing and it does something things that "just make sense" when you think about it, but then it does things or misses features where it leaves you scratching your head, that combined with the fact that the app slection sucks and the hardware is pretty sub par, wp7 overall leaves much to be desired but has big potential if some major changes are done.
For now I'll wait for the IP5 and see what it offers, if disappointing I'll go android. As of now Im happy with my 4S.
Symbian also wasnt actually too bad! Just SO slow due to bad specs and like 10 apps lol, other then that it was great on my old Nokia's, and WM was alsmot the same in those aspects aswell imo, great potential but the OS was so slow due to low ram and weak proc, they were ahead of their time, but when the time came it was too late.
Yes symbian was very functional. It just lacked the fluidity and the presence of android. Android just like windows will become almost ubiquitous within 10 years.
It's Google's alternative to Windows. Understand that and you'll understand where it's going.

Competition is good, it forces everyone to step up their games, hopefully apple can impress with IOS6 and lets see if MS can turn around WP sales with an updated WP fixing the missing features and what not.
Please, lets stop saying "the Iphone can do what android can" and just face the facts. My droid can share files ota easily, run programs that can remotely control computers, etc... My sister has a hard time transferings songs from her mac book to her iphone... Enough said.
I am already planning on getting an xperia S. The choices I was facing was either the SGS3, ONE X and Xperia S. I was a bit dissapointed with SE last year when I got my NEO V because the hardware specs werent that competitive(single core 1ghz, 512 ram, 420mb storage). When xperia s came out it was a large step from what they had last 2011. I was thinking of shifting to samsung for the s3 but after I saw how ugly it is, it was safe to assume that im going with sony again. I never did like htc because of its crappy QC and sub-standard build quality.
I have to give to Sony though...their phones really are sexy. Aesthetically, it looks top class. Even the UI is one of the best around.

I am already planning on getting an xperia S. The choices I was facing was either the SGS3, ONE X and Xperia S. I was a bit dissapointed with SE last year when I got my NEO V because the hardware specs werent that competitive(single core 1ghz, 512 ram, 420mb storage). When xperia s came out it was a large step from what they had last 2011. I was thinking of shifting to samsung for the s3 but after I saw how ugly it is, it was safe to assume that im going with sony again. I never did like htc because of its crappy QC and sub-standard build quality.
I have to give to Sony though...their phones really are sexy. Aesthetically, it looks top class. Even the UI is one of the best around.

You are right Android can do more then iphone but the majority of iphone users could care less about that stuff so its a moot point for them, all they care about is playing music, web, phone, text, apps, just the basic stuff which iphone does exceptionally well, honestly thats all I use my phone for. Most iphone users dont care about cores, ram, and stuff like that, thats what many seem to not understand. All I want is a quad core and bigger screen on iphone which im sure the 5 will.

Me personally, I needed a phone that can double as my pc and laptop at the same time... I do a lot on it; edit files, remotely controling my pc at home, viewing wifi cams at home, works as an extension for other devices, etc. I need a phone that can do more than just play music and other basic stuff.
When I saw the xperia S camera specs, I figured I need more now. I travel a lot and take tons of photos for personal and work purposes... This means I dont have to carry my camera all the time.

I haven't but I guess it just depends on what you like or dislike about your operating system and the phone looks.
I've never owned an apple anything much less an Iphone. I will say this though, I do have friends that have Iphones and I watch them power it up, zip right to an app or go right to the phone and start dialing away, seems pretty fast to me. My Dinc is somewhat laggy compared to their speeds of hitting buttons, like waiting for my dialer to come up or say the market to load or other stuff.
Now I realize I got apps I've downloaded etc, but so have they. I'm not pitching a sales for Iphone because I am not an Apple fan however, I personally think the Iphone is a hell of a lot sexier than most any other makers phones available. That aluminum housing is just badass looking.
Also realize this is just my thoughts compared to an OG Dinc, I would imagine the Inc 4g should be a crapload faster than my Dinc....
My gf just got this phone from the iPhone 4 yesterday. She loves it so far and is absolutely amazed how much you can customize. She was a little overwhelmed from everything but that's just because the iPhone had literally nothing to customize. Screen is soo crisp, an phone is fast.

Yes. This phone is a world of difference from the original Incredible. I loved the original Incredible but there was never any question that the iPhone was smoother--just completely impossible to customize without jailbreaking. With the Incredible 4G and Ice Cream Sandwich optimizations, the difference is negligible. So now it's really just a question of whether you want customizability or not, and which UI design you prefer. I think Sense 4 is much more beautiful than iOS, but that's a matter of taste.

Polarimetric, that's good to hear, and what I was hoping to hear myself. One question though, I know I've heard of jailbreaking, and my interpretation of this was the same thing as rooting? If that's the case wouldn't the Iphone peeps have the same level as customizing their Iphones as we do our Androids?
I had a 4s prior. Yes pretty customizable if jailbroken, had nice themes. However I find myself preferring android, because of more options, connectivity, and 4G service, of course on Verizon.

Theoretically, yes. Jailbreaking and rooting are pretty much the same thing (they're both just essentially using an exploit to remove the restrictions placed on the phone by the carrier/manufacturer/OS developer), so iPhones and Android phones in theory should be customizable to the same degree. However, one of the reasons the Android dev community is so much more robust (and thus Android phones are considerably more customizable) is the difference between Google's attitude toward the dev community and Apple's attitude. While Google has largely taken a look-the-other-way approach (the only way in which they've really ever put their foot down is disallowing Google-branded apps from being distributed with custom ROMs, but they've never done anything about the Gapps packages that float around the internet), Apple has devoted hours upon hours of development toward addling or completely getting rid of the iPhone dev community. Although they've been unsuccessful and jailbreaking still exists, Apple's adamant anti-development, closed-source policy has turned many developers toward Android. While almost all Android phones are customizable all the way down to the system level (installing a custom ROM can completely change the user experience), iPhones are mostly just tweakable. An iPhone is always going to be an iPhone. If you like iPhones, that may not be a problem for you, but if you like being part of a community that pretty much guarantees choice, Android will always be the way to go.
im on the verge of switching from my 4s to the inc 4g lte due to the fact that i miss android. this is my 3rd time switching from the iphone to android due to the fact that i miss lte and the community :silly:

IMO the only thing this phone needs is an Amoled screen and it would be absolutely perfect. Battery life is excellent even in low signal areas like my home. I really don't have anything to complain about with this phone...and I'm pretty picky. I'm just not a fan of the larger screen phones...battery life suffers tremendously. My wife was playing with it all weekend, she has the iphone 4s and wants the Inc 4G immediately. And she is a die-hard iphone junky. Let's see how she feels when the iphone 5 comes out...hehe.

I don't see how that can be said. I went from a DINC 1 to the iPhone 4S and was amazed with how smooth it is. I miss Android and flashing stuff some, so I'm looking back into it a bit. Just don't understand the statements like this. The thing is stupid fast, takes some amazing pictures, and the battery life has been killer.
Not a fanboy at all, just can respect things. If the DINC 4G LTE came out before the 28th, I'd have snagged one and kept my unlimited. Now I think I'll have to buy phones outright. :crying:
If you have been sticking with iPhone or at least iPod or iPad, I strongly recommend you to move over to Android world. I had iPhone 4S before (although it's not my previous phone), it's dramatic but more fun to discover. iPhone was just too bring for me, and I didn't like jailbreaking because the system got unstable. If you like customizing stuff, I'm pretty sure you would like the phone!

You went from the dinc 1 to the iPhone 4s... That's like going from a tube tv to a 1080 Samsung flat screen. I owned the dinc 1 before but that was like 10 tech years ago...
Comparing the latest incredible 4g to the iphone 4s would be more fair. I am stunned how far android has evolved and HTC Sense becoming an actual benefit rather than a burden.
So far the incredible has a great camera, killer OS, and is smooth as butter. I just wish manufactures really did spend more time coming out with quality 4 inchers.
HTC is the maker. Cmon google! Give them the nexus.

If I read that right it says, "Google looks to be going all-out in an attempt to appease consumers in both software and hardware, the latter of which will likely be all provided by Samsung."

Ooh. Should have read the specific article I linked to before I linked you to it.
That article seems to theorize they'll all be Samsung, but most other articles I've read have said that the 5 incoming Nexus devices will come from all different manufacturers, bringing more diversity to the Nexus phone brand. So, essentially, if the rumor is true, the major manufacturers (presumably HTC and Samsung, obviously the Google-owned Motorola; the other two depend on who they can get--I'd bet Asus will be one of them) would all contribute a phone to the Nexus brand, making Google's Nexus store kind of like a carrier of its own.
I am down for that!

The incredible is a way better choice, u will be happy with ur decision, considering ur going to root it, only get it if ur planning on rooting. I am purchasing this phone tomorrow, upgrading from the HTC Thunderbolt and I'm very exited.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times but I'll add one more. Has anyone had the privilege of using both devices? Which would you choose and why? I understand this is the DNA forums and I have also asked on the iPhone forums around and have gotten mixed reviews everywhere. Opinions are nice if you don't mind sharing. Thanks ahead of time.
They both have their perks. I've always been an Android guy, but I don't hate on iOS like most others here. I have an iPad and I love it.
The iPhone 5 is a really solid device. It's simple, and some people like that. The battery life is definitely better. I feel like I spend half my time on my phone trying to find out what's keeping it from going into deep sleep, etc. Also, the menu button at the bottom of a lot of apps is really annoying (I have a ROM that lets me remap it, but I'm talking about stock devices here). I feel like that would be unacceptable on an iOS device. The messaging app is my last annoyance, as it redraws so damn much. I was watching my friend with the iPhone 5 in class the other day and her messaging app is fast as hell and never redraws.
That being said, I wouldn't trade my DNA for an iPhone 5. It has its quirks, but I love it. I love the big, beautiful screen (I think the size of the i5 is just really awkward). I love being able to customize my phone, and I love having more than just a static grid for home screens.
I just signed up with Verizon I've always been a android person held both phones in my hand iPhone 5 didn't like the size camera to me wasn't impressive and I just don't like the os much and the icons I know it could be jail broken but I'm so happy with the DNA beautiful phone

I can't decide if I want a DNA or iPhone 5. I have my upgrade may 1. I have owned 2 android phones that both have given me issues ( xperia play and LG Lucid. ) I have experienced multiple issues on both android devices therefore it makes me nervous about getting another android device. IPhones on the other hand, my friends have had very few issues, unless dropped but of course I would keep a case on my iPhone. Could you guys help me decide?

HTC Droid DNA has been a VERY solid phone for me. I'd choose DNA over iPhone 5 any day.

do you like customization? do you like a full 1080p high Def screen? do you like a quad core processor with 2 gigs of ram?
the phones you had, well, sucked. they were very low end android phones. the Lucid is terrible lol we used to sell that.. made me a huge profit but I hated selling it. the xperia was meh. the dna is a premium high end device.
people with iPhones "don't have issues" because you can't do everything on them you can on an Android. for example, people don't complain about errors or force closing on iPhones because when an app force closes, they don't tell you it's performed an error. it just backs out to the home screen, ans doesn't tell you why. most people think "oh just a small glitch, I'll uninstall and reinstall the app..." and then it's fixed.
believe me, when I worked at Verizon, I saw more idiots with iPhones with problems than I thought could possibly exist. I couldn't believe that many people didn't even know how to use an iPhone. good god.

No one can really decide for you, but my friend got the iPhone 5 coming from a droid razr and then I got my dna and let him use it and he wished that he stayed with android. What are you looking to do on your phone. The droid dna can do just about everything. Where as the iPhone 5 doesn't have some features the dna has. The specs aren't really even comparable in my opinion, the dna beats all of the iPhone.

My general rule of thumb is if you plan to jailbreak your iPhone don't bother with an iPhone and get an Android. And if that's the case the DNA is the first phone I've used to take iPhones out of some long time iDevice family members hands.
If you say to yourself you are 100 percent satisfied with an iPhone out of the box and just want something that doesnt need to be customized or anything, then it's something you might want to consider.

Its a tough call I really I like them both. That said if it was me I would wait it out and look at the HTC One and the iPhone 5S and see which one I like better. If the iPhone 5S comes with a 4+ inch screen and iOS 7 gets a overhaul it maybe a tough call. Despite what the android guys says (most have actually never owned the iPhone 5 (I have)) its a really solid device. Issue is its boring you can't do a lot with it. I like to tinker but to be honest even that gets boring after a while. So if you want something that without a doubt is going to work almost 100% of the time AND you like getting updates for your device on a regular bases then the iPhone is a clear winner. Its fast and it works.
One more thing what HTC has done to Sense 5 I might as well go back to the iPhone. The new Sense brings nothing to the table for me.

The great thing about android is if you want a different look then you change it to what you want. There are very few reported issues as far as software go with android is concerned since the era of jellybean. Android biggest issue is the different hardware that is has to be optimized for. Dna stock is really refined but I for one like to change things up at min once a week. We can't tell you what to chose but if choice is an issue then android is your best bet because you can make it perform like any phone you want.

The iPhone is a solid choice simply because it's so tightly controlled there is very little that can go wrong with it. The LTE is fast, processor and memory are very capable for the OS, battery is good, and everyone who releases an app makes it for the iPhone....usually first.
That being said, and I've been on both sides of the fence, I personally prefer Android devices. Two things keep me away from iOS. First is the screen size. Showing my age here, but I'm pushing 40 and a 3.5-4" screen really doesn't do it for me anymore. Especially after using things which are so easy on the eyes in the 4.3-5" range; it's difficult to get used to an iPhone size again. At the present I'm using a DNA for a few major reasons, namely the display is gorgeous, build quality is fantastic, and the open/customizable nature of Android gives me freedom that an iPhone never will. One thing that kind of surprised me after going to the DNA was that I find myself actually surfing the web on this phone. With the iPhone's cramped screen, surfing the web is do-able, but almost pointless - you'd be much better off on a desktop. However web page rendering on the DNA with the much larger screen, is actually very capable of basic surfing/checking news, etc. I go to my desktop less, especially when I'm working in my lab and need a quick lookup on something; I go to the DNA. iOS itself is very restrictive compared to Android.
My suggestion - if you mainly use a phone for phone calls, text, and apps, then go for an iPhone. If you spend time surfing the web, doing some customizing or tinkering with the innards, as well as calling and texting, go with the DNA. To be honest you can't really go wrong either way; they're just different.
Good luck with your decision, and hopefully we'll see you around these forums after your final decision.
I had a difficult time making that decision as well when I had upgraded a month ago (from a thunderbolt), although the whole integration thing was appealing with the iphone (have an ipad already, plus other family members have iphones), I had decided to go with the dna instead because of the ability to tinker with it and such, enjoy doing that sort of stuff

The thing is though.... you can do that all on the DNA. I would say the DNA on stock is a very stable capable phone and Sense imho looks brilliant over iOS.
I agree though, most apps do come out on the iPhone first due to the platform being more stable and easier to dev for in the beginning.... We'll probably see that change over the course of time with JB and onward though.
I agree with everything said here. It was really a tough for me to decide especially since I use Mac computers, iPad, Apple TV, Time Capsule, etc.. but on android you can flash stuff and try different things if you want too. Its nice having that ability. When I had the iPhone I found myself a little board. I didn't have anything to develop, and everything I had learned to do on android seem to be going to waste.

It amazes me when people mention that in reviews of devices, especially when it's a 5 ft guy reviewing it [usually small hands to begin with]. It's neither a pro nor con that's worth mentioning imo
Sarcasm aside, it would be interesting to see Apple come out with a 4+ in screen especially after watching some of their advertisements and events.
All I know is I got my girlfriend the iPhone5 when I bought my DNA and she has more problems than I do.
The only time i've had ANY issue on my DNA is when I screw something up myself from a mod or ROM that I knew was wonky.
My girlfriend on the other hand? Her favorite comment is "I guess i'm done with [insert name of the app that just force closed here" because her iPhone will force close anything from Facebook to the built in camera app.
It makes me laugh because i've always wondered if i'd be happier with an iPhone but I never pulled the trigger and now I know i'll be sticking with Android for the near future at the very least.
Also, her battery life is only slightly better than mine. By 6PM i'm usually sitting around 80% (I don't use my phone much during the day and I have a wireless charger it's on occasionally) but she always has to charge her phone before we go out for the night and I don't.

I'd like to start by saying that I love my DNA its a great device. That said I never had any of those issues on my iPhone 5 none.. also the battery life on mine was kick as$ I could go two days without charging it. Sounds kind of like she needs a hard reset.
My personal opinion is that you should def. get the DNA. In general, if you're going to choose a low grade Android or an iPhone I would recommend the iPhone. I would; however, recommend that a person spend a little bit of money and get a high end Android phone every time. It is well worth the $100-$150 to for a 2 year investment. If it makes you feel better break it down by month. If you do that's about $6.25/month for a completely awesome phone.
I think im sold to the DNA.. about 20 days and I can own one!

I agree with this. Both devices are capable of doing whatever you need. However, you are limited to what you can do with and without jailbreak on iOS. For example, I didn't like the HTC sense look but don't have root yet so I installed nova launcher... You can't do that on iOS. Don't like lock screen? You can change without root on Android. So on... But at the same time I would keep stock on iOS cause the other stuff doesn't look good in my opinion. (i like stock. That's why I want root for cm 10.1). Ask yourself what you are looking for and ask yourself if you are bored of iOS or bored of Android?
I recommend the DNA because I like the hardware and android, but don't let me pick for you. ^_^ (keep in mind there isn't a root for the DNA right now if you have ota so if it's not out by when you get it, you'll have to pay for jtag or use sense )

What I love about android is that I can change anything I want. If I want to I can:
change the lock screen
add widgets
change launcher
change icons
remove unwanted applications
save email attachments
change file associants (make chrome your default web browser)
ringtone trimmer set any mp3 as a ringer
set any image as a wallpaper
much, much, more..
thats the stuff that sells me.
DNA is awesome fast Quad-core CPU, Adreno 320 GPU, 1080P Display, NFC, Wireless Charging. . . 2GB RAM. Its awesome.
If he wants to tinker with it he will have to wait until the new firmware is unlockable, or he can jtag it.
Anyone else jumping ship? Very attached to my iPhone and it's extremely fluid simplicity.
I can't deal with the battery life anymore, drives me up a wall so I have been looking around.
I worry about the new camera technology featured here where as I am a proud father and rare urban explorer and enjoy snapping and editing in my downtime.
Any advice or suggestions?
I'm not new to Android in any sense, typically favor the Galaxy series and CM nighties for that Vanilla fix but I haven't been around lately to be in the loop with development.

I just got the M8...came from an iphone 5. Been using iphones since 3g. I got tired of itunes dictating everything I could do with my phone. I like the freedom of plugging my phone into any pc and adding pics...and music. That wasn't a luxury with the iphone. I also like the fact that you don't have to restore your phone whenever your storage space gets to low, because the mysterious "other" is taking up the extra space.
I also felt like the iphone's are being left behind. If you look at the 3g to the 5s...there isn't a whole lot of difference with the features they have. I will admit that it's going to take some getting used to the M8 coming from the iphone...mainly the touchscreen...I like the Samsung touchscreen a lot better. But I still feel good about my decision to switch phones.

Battery life was great until 7.1, things went down hill really fast after that.
I might be jumping ship, still deciding.
I jumped ship from iPhone 4 to the HTC One X back about a year and a half ago. Was an excellent decision for me. If you like tinkering and more freedom with customizing your phone AND you want a quality built device I think the M8 would be a great choice. I have had the HTC One (M7) and Galaxy s4 and HTC is superior.

I did own the S3 for a while then upgraded to the S4 and paid cash and was simply disappointed.I didn't feel it was a true upgrade and returned it within 24 hours. The Note 3 seems more appealing then the S5 at this point due to it's larger battery size but I read reports they last about just the same.

Came from using a 5S as my daily driver. The hardware and even software polish on this device does rival Apple. I don't feel bad about using this Android phone at all.

I think a lot of it is also personal preference. I know plenty of people who love Samsung TouchWiz and people that hate HTC sense. I just happen to dislike TouchWiz quite a bit and found that I enjoyed Sense especially after switching away from it. Likewise some people enjoy the simplicity of iOS. Ultimately just depends what kind of user you are. But I do think that the hardware is comparing apples to apples at this point. Just depends what you like! But I suggest taking the jump from iOS to android and trying it. I don't think I'll be getting an iPhone again any time soon!

Honestly it's pretty much the only option they have left at this point. That and a trimming iOS 8 or how ever they decide to phase out their old products to force feed their loyal sheep. Lol

I really like the m8. I was using a note 3 a good bit, but kept on falling back to the iPhone even though the two phones couldn't be any more different.
I liked the screen and great battery life on the samsung, but the device on a whole user experience level never hit that high note of polished software and polished hardware. Don't get me wrong, spec wise the note is great. But like apple has been saying for a long time, the marriage between hardware and software is really important and it matters to me. Samsung software works, but it's ugly to look at. Combine that with a plastic phone and there leaves a lot to be desired.
Which brings me to the m8, which to me, is really the only phone I have used that can be directly compared to and compete with the iPhone. I happen to like htc's sense because it is flat, consistent and useful without trying to simply pack in useless features. This combined with the design of the phone make it truly enjoyable to use. The things that raise the m8 above the latest iPhone for me are the screen quality and size, and the battery life. So far I have had battery life comparable to the note 3. My standard for assessing battery life are simple: if I need to, or want to use the phone heavily throughout the day - does it last? Or do I need to plug in at some point during the day? The note 3 and the m8 pass this test. I can use the phone as much as I want at work and after work and will only need to plug in at night. The iPhone can not do this. It needs to be plugged in during my commute to make it through the evening. To be fair, it does charge quickly and it is usually not an issue, but I would prefer to be completely untethered throughout the day because everyone knows there are days that take you away from chargers completely.
Anyway that's my long rant of why I like the m8 more than my beloved iPhone. If apple puts out a bigger screen around 5 inches and increases the battery life to match other flagship like the m8 and note 3, I might buy another iPhone. Until September or so when they do their next reveal, I'm set on the m8.

Honetly, Im considering a switch again Im just bored (again) with Apple. I jailbreak everything but its still the same boring IOS. I will miss imessage though.
Im on the fence between the M8 Nexus 5 or the SG5. I just dont know which way to go

iMessage makes it really hard for me to get off the apple ecosystem. There's no way I could ever convince my buddies to use whatsapp or hangouts etc. I'm really loving this M8 though lol.
same here. I remember it taking a few days for my number to switch from IOS to android
I'm leaving the iPhone 5 for the M8. Had a couple droids before; the most recent being the galaxy 1. It left a bad taste in my mouth with it's toyish feel, and the back button that liked to activate all by itself. I switched from it to a 4s and really liked it for a while. Jailbroke both the 4s and the 5, but it still didn't really feel the same as a rooted droid. That and always having to wait for jailbreak to come out for various IOS versions.
Now I gotta get back up to speed on what all is involved in rooting this thing. Back on the galaxy it was super 1 click, clockwork, don't remember if there was anything else; been a while!
I came from so many androids from droid x to bionic galaxy s4 to htc one I switched to iPhone an not looking back yeah you can root android and customize them but development is old nothing really fresh same stuff with different tweaks ..not going back I seen the htc M8 hands on yes it's good but everyone has there opinions

I switched from a 4s to the One m7, and just upgraded to the m8. Best decision for me. As said before, even jailbroken, iOS just got boring to me. I tried a few ROMS on for size on the m7, before settling on the ViperONE, which added a bunch of new functionality to a Sense based ROM. Made the phone great in my opinion, and I eagerly await to see what the Viper Team comes up with for the m8.
If you like to tweak and play around with new ROMS, then android is where you want to be. If that is not a big deal for you then iOS will probably suit you well.

I still have my iPhone 5s, but I can tell you that every time I try to use it for any length of time, the small screen makes me want to ragequit life. The phone is nice overall and the camera is a benchmark for quality and speed, but I just can't stand using a phone screen that small anymore. It's literally my only real beef besides the lack of customizability.
I have an M8 now and I have 5 other Android phones and I can tell you that the M8 is a very nice device. The speed and fluidity are unparalleled and the camera is just as fast. I like all the camera features. It may not take pictures that look as good as the iPhone, but at least I can set a different SMS app as default or the look of my launcher, etc. I also actually like Blinkfeed. I use it to keep up with Twitter/Facebook, etc. Great overall device. It's too bad that it will be overshadowed by the GS5 when it launches.

Agreed I have an iPhone 5s and boot it up from time to time and I simply cannot use it for more then 5 minutes. The screen is so tiny I wondered how I used iPhone in the first place. It really feels like a toy. The only thing I could do with an iPhone is make calls due to screen size. No way you can use it for browsing, games or even typing it feels so cramped.
