Stuck at boot animation + more info inside - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, so I ran out of battery on my way home, when I got home I plugged the phone and went to sleep. Today when I woke up, I turned on the device, but it got stuck @ galaxy s3 boot animation, the animation you get before your ROM's boot animation kicks in, so I went to recovery and tried to recover one of my recoveries. it didn't help. I did a factory reset, it still was the same, stuck on galaxys3 boot animation. So I decided to flash stock samsung rom using ODIN. But now I'm stuck at the samsungs stock ROM boot animation, I tried factory reset couple of times but it didn't help.
Any idea what might be the issue, I have flashed this rom
Edit: Also the line "E: failed to mount /efs" is something to worry about when you boot into recovery?

So flashing via Odin works w/o errors?

Yeah, when i flashed using odin, I didn't encounter any error, more one thing to mention, when I boot to recover I get
E: failed to mount /efs
Is that something to have concern about?

oh yes. do you have an efs backup? that's the first thing you should do before flashing anything. if yes, restore it. if not, send it to service

Yes you will find that the vendor or Samsung refuse warranty .
Your option is to fight that as not relevant to your problem .

You are kidding me, so basically if I didn't root my device, vendor/samsung wouldn't had a choice but to replace my device, but because of I did root my device, vendor/samsung will refuse to replace my device, am I correct?
Is there any other way to unbrick my device?

you are correct, in the EU you still can get lucky due to some regulations and you have to show that the root did not cause the problem, outside the EU I am not sure. The restriction of the internals of every device is not for nothing in place don't you think so? Otherwise manufacturers would get hundreds of complains because someone messed up something...

Hey, I just came back from my vendor, they say they can't fix it. Can I some how restore EFS? I have the Phones IMIE/S/N written, on the back of the phone, can I make a new efs folder/files? using this DATA?
Thank you!
EDIT: If I'll have to ship to samsung, do I have to talk with them first? or just find their ARMA address and ship there?

If you do not have an EFS backup I guess it will be difficult to restore. Only solution then will be to send it in for service if I am not wrong.

You are correct, it would be difficult to restore, or there is another option, make my cellphone not boot at all, so the vendor won't be able to check flash counter.. in that case the vendor won't have a choice but to replace the device.. got any suggestion how to brick your device so it won't boot at all? disconnect the cable while flashing?

Hello,
I dont know IF posting in the right place, but I searched the whole forum for a proper answer how to "unbrick" my boot loop-ed Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830..
Now I've tried installing several firmwares using Odin multi downloader v4.83 but none of them helped me, after all I cant access Recovery Mode!
I can acess Download mode, Emergency Dmod (arm9) and RAMDUMP (arm9)
I have: Android 2.3.3 GingerBread on T-Mobile Carrier (Hungary)!
How did I get here: rooted with SuperOneClick 2.3.2 and used an app for unlock (Galaxy Ace Unlock.apk) witch was probably the main source of the problem... Had no problems until I decided to reboot, rebooted successfully, the problem I had then was No carrier, then tried a second reboot and ever since then I'm stuck into a boot loop with no access whatsoever to RECOVERY MODE.
After installing firmware and waiting the 5 minutes in Odin, my device reboots intro a boot loop after about 2:32 min and nothing can be done furthermore...
I've serched the forum and found that data.rfs is missing in the firmwares... maybe that the source of the problem to... I dont know...
Please help me fix this problem!! Thank you!

You'll just have to keep flashing roms via Download Mode until one works (try flashing the stock rom).
P.S.: Your device has it's own forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1164.

You have done everything you could and it's still not fixed (even the things other people did when they had the same problem - it worked for them, but not for you), so warranty is the only other way to get it fixed (or at least replaced).

Thank you for the help Theonew! Appreciate! I've taken it into warranty service, hopefully they wont find my device inappropriate for free service, and so I dont have to pay for it...

Anyway, I've researched this Galaxy Unlock apk. and it seems thats the main source of the problem.

Honestly though, the ports of CWM to the Mediapad are not producing prior backups anyway. I don't see how it'd be more useful than the official ROM.

Mine was in the same state. Sent it in for repair. Seems like they couldn't fix it with jtag at the german Huawei service partner, as they stated the mainboard has been replaced.
The device arrived today and is waiting for me at home. I will check the serial number to see if the board really got replaced. If yes, I guess there will be little chance of a jtag repair, as I cant imagine that it is cheaper to replace the whole board than just flash it...
Anyway, good look with your brick.
€: Yup, they replaced the board. SN and IMEI are different.

Deleted IMEI (NO BACKUPS)

Hi guys, hopefully you can help me here as I'm at my wits end. I've tried everything I can think off and can't fix this blasted phone.
To be honest I have no idea how all of a sudden I lost my nv_data.bin and IMEI as first my phone wouldn't boot because of an error with the /efs folder.
After numerous searches online I managed to finally get it working by using odin and flashing CM9 for the Galaxy S2, I tried others and none of them worked. From here I used tools like GSII Repair and Ktool and was able to create a nv_data.bin but IMEI still gone but at least I'm back to having a baseband.
My issue is now that I can't restore my IMEI number any backups or nv_data.bin or.baks where gone, I tried all the tricks online to restore and nothing.
I have the generic IMEI "004999010640000" and of course can't connect to mobile network.
Is there anyway that I can manually add in the IMEI number to fix this issue??
Thanks in advance.

They may have better tools than we do.
You could try flashing the ROM the device came with.
I too have this issue with a friend's phone (as some dumb ass tech guy flashed a branded firmware without backing up EFS) , so I have to flash any ROM I can get my hands on without the certainty that it would actually work.
Some guys did report that it worked.

you need special hardware to recreate the efs folder and rewrite the imei.. changing the imei is illegal on most countries so its obvious that it wont be easy to change... the service center has the tools to recreate the efs folder... flashing software will not fix the corrupted efs and would probably make it even worse...
our methods for flashing:
computer ----> phone
specialists and service center:
computer ----> "special hardware" ----> phone
you can do a search on the internet on what "special hardware" they use but i doubt that that would be for sale in a country where changing imei is illegal
software alone cannot recreate the efs folder nor write a new imei.. all you can do without the hardware is try to recover your corrupted efs if still possible.. if it comes to the point that it needs to be recreated or rewritten then it would be impossible without the said hardware

I can speak as somebody in the same boat, wipe data doesn't work. I tried changing my dpi, so the build.prop is only modified file and that option does not work.
OP, did you modify something, or remove apps, or what? If you are down an app, get the sys dump from the other thread, pull it apart, and sideload through adb. might work, but adb does not mount system, so it might be an exercise in futility.
So there isn't even a stock rom available? What about flashing one for AT&T?
Here: Download the right Firmware for your carrier. Then flash with ODIN. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461203
Unfortunately us I527 users will have to put up with stock ROM with Root until a dev chooses to support us.
