UPDATE 09/05/15
Didn't realise this post had so many views, updated to 6.0.4.1 for the benefit of any other users.
==============================================================================
Couldn't find a flashable version of cwm 6.0.3.1 here so though I'd make one and post it
Recovery.img sourced directly from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Nice and easy, flash with Odin through PDA:
Instructions
1. Go into download mode
2. Connect device to your PC
3. Open Odin
4. Click "PDA" and Select "Recovery.tar"
5. Make sure only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are checked
6. Once you're happy, click start, let your phone reboot
7. Check cwm is 6.0.3.1

That's the Telstra variant from Australia, right?
You can go ahead and try it if you want, you can always flash a stock recovery image if it doesn't work
may I recommend mskip's toolkit, it really is amazing and has your model supported. I think you can even flash cwm from there.
His work is amazing and well worth checking out if you haven't already

there is a version 6.0.3.2 on the cwm webpage. is there anyway to get a *.tar version so i can install it through odin? i dont know how to install the *.img version
btw i installed the 6.0.3.1 version and it wont detect my extSd card in recovery. i didnt see a usb host either

Already tried and it works great!! thanks alot mate!

*.img versus *.tar files &, 64gb SD cards

1) I am in the same boat: ODIN only looks for *.tar files - not the *.img file type referenced on the original post - anybody, can provide info on where I download and *.tar file?
2) I have given up on CMW being able to deal with 64gb SD cards! You can try FAT 32 format but you loose half the capacity. I can only conclude that CMW is based on a subset kernel which is incapable of recognising 64gb SD Cards...

flashable cwm
Hi. Can anyone conform that it is a touch based version of cwm? Thanks.Note 3. N9005

Updated to 6.0.4.1 for anyone who wants standard CWM recovery for whatever reason.

I got a problem flashing this recovery via Odin. Odin shows all is fine, but when trying to show the recovery, I get a weird screen instead (attached image).
Can anyone help?
This occurs even when trying another recovery, called TWRP.

If you're rooted you can download twrp from play store and install the app which will flash the twrp recovery.

Root from sd?

hi there
my USB port is broken
i want to root my phone via sd card, it is possible ?
iam on orange UK 2.3.3 BVKG3
i just need to root it
cheers
If you first update to ICS somehow (OTA?), yes.
Although i seen something similar to that (flash a .zip file using stock recovery to gain root) i haven't seen someone around s2 forum make a .zip like that. I have seen low end devices gain root by flashing .zip files through stock recovery like Galaxy Ace, Optimus Me and Galaxy Y.

Yes it can be done. I've done it myself on SGSII and it works fine. See this thread for details:

Doesn't Mobile Odin require root in the first place to run? His phone is currently unrooted, unless that status has changed.

I do have a theory... but it will involve you upgrading to ICS while you're at it. You'll also have to wipe your device, which will remove all your apps/contacts/etc, but should leave all your pictures/movies/music/etc. I am not sure if it will work or not, as I haven't actually tried it myself.
You'll need an external SD card for this.
- Download CWM Recovery for the Galaxy S2 from the ClockworkMod website and put in on your external SD card.
- Download one of wanam's stock ICS ROMs that are CWM flashable from his thread and put it on your external SD card.
- reboot to recovery
- do a full wipe (data/factory reset)
- choose "apply update from external storage"
- find and select the recovery image downloaded in the first step, and wait for CWM recovery to appear
- choose "install from sdcard"
- find and select the ROM you downloaded in the second step
Once this last step is done, I believe you'll need to reboot. The advantage of this is though all the ROMs in wanam's thread are all stock, they are ALSO rooted. So you'll both upgrade to ICS and root your device simultaneously.
Again, this is a theory, but I don't see why this wouldn't work. (of course, someone please point out anything I didn't think of that would prevent this from working the way I envisioned it)
not working for me nothing, as CWM zip file cannot be instaled from stock recovery
there is signature problem
i already downloaded touch version too without luck

Remove twrp2 and return to CWM?!?

I installed twrp2 on my I717 Galaxy Note and want to return back to CWM. Does anyone know how to do this? I have all my backups in CWM and want to go back.
Please Help
Just put CWM.zip on ur sd card and flash it.
Twrp should be replaced with CWM.

I found using "flash touch recovery" from my tools in aospxxx works nicely.

The file contains a directory called META-INF and recovery.img...
That's for recovery, the Mets-inf folder is the script to write the recovery.img
That's weird, You may try downloading the zip fresh, or if ask else fails grab the Odin flashable tar and use that.

Yup.
Given you download the correct file for this device.
If that still fails, which I dunno why I would, it should go without saying The Odin file, will need Odin a pc and a Usb cable

That has the Odin flashable cwm touch file... that version is outdated so after flashing that, you'll have cwm, but flashing a newer Rom zip might end up with a "status 7 error" in recovery.
At that point I'd personally use goo manager go grab the latest version of a cwm zip, that'll be usable in the version of cwm I posted above.

Are you saying I should _not_ use TWRP to put CWM on?
No, it should work, just saying if it still gives you the proverbial finger, Odin is your friend and that version is just the latest with an Odin .tar
So to have your cake (cwm) and eat it too (flash new roms) you'll need to update your recovery from that older version of cwm
So you said you get an error when you tap to install? You should be flashing that zip in recovery like you would a ROM or mod. Is that what you did? After it installs just reboot recovery within twrp and bam!!! You'll have cwm.
Thanks so much for your help...my problem remains, so I may go back to a stock ROM for T-Mobile, since that is my provider, and see if I can solve it... Before I installed CWM, I could sms/mms to my e-mail address...I can't any longer.

CWM recovery.zip

Hi
Does anyone have CWM "recovery.zip" for Gtab 10.1 GT P7500. I can only find md5 and .img files. I am refering the latest version 5.5.0.4.
Thank you
I asked around for this a few days ago and a guy posted a link for me...I can't find it now...darn it!
I read in another thread that you can use ROM Manager to flash your IMG though. If you still have that zipped up, park it on your SD card, open ROM Manager and go "install zip from SD Card". Select it and flash and I think you will be okay...I have never tried it that way though.
Can anyone else confirm this works? Or if you are brave give it a try and let us know!

There are some issue upgrade ICS 4.0.4 with rom manager.
like boot loop, screen rollong in CWM recovery mode. maybe not affect by Rom manager...
but most issue reply with rom manager installed.
For rolling screen there's a fix, flashing custom bootloader, but causes issues on official ICS at the moment...

Thank you for your files. Just to explain why I need it: since i am a linux user i try to flash my tab using linux. The following procedures did not want to work:
-Adb / Fastboot
-heimdall
-flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img.
The only method to flash the recovery for me is flashing it with the recovery as a .zip file and then rebooting the recovery. In this way I was able to install CM10 Jelly Bean on my tab.
Cheers.

Did you zip it up first? Don't extract it.
You can use Mobile ODIN to install the .md5 recovery if you're rooted
The pro version is on the Play Store or the lite version is free in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
I don't think that zipping the image solves the problem. As far as I know you have to zip it without compression. It would be helpful if there would be a how-to for Linux in this case.

Help. Trapped in cwm startup recovery.

Hello,
Yesterday, when trying to create a backup of my current ROM (original, factory ROM) it seems that after the backup process was finished, when I tried to reboot my phone it would go directly into cwm recovery instead of starting up normally. This happens every time I try to reboot the phone. I have a Samsung Exhibit sgh-t599n (metro pcs).
Other things that may be revelant to my problem: the backup was not successful (there was a message saying something about an image not being copied). Also, in the cwm recovery menu there is a warning that says "No file_contexts".
I would appreciate any help you could give me.
Thank you

Okay so you do know how to get into Odin. Try flashing a different custom recovery. Also make sure the one you are using is made for your device. There aren't any recoveries that are universal with 1 file. Just make sure the one you are using is for your phone!

I was able to find these instructions (thanks to thereal_big jake from androidarea51.com) for solving a problem very similar to mine:

2. Factory Reset in Stock Recovery
3. Flash CWM in Odin
4. Now Flash your Rom or Backup
5. Reboot
Could somebody explain how to flash the stock recovery with odin in my phone (samsung exhibit sgh t599n).

Ok thank you so much for putting in the work
First I downloaded Flashify app, did you know the app comes with twrp, cwm 6.0.4.6 touch, and Philz. Tried all three the device boot looped trying to boot into all the recoveries. Had to pull the battery, and start over. Next I tried to the to recoveries I made with Flashify same result. Then I tried to flash PhilZ 6.12.9 hltespr .tar and the original copy of cwm 6.0.4.6 touch .img with Flashify no go. I figured maybe Flashify is the problem, so I used odin on my PC and tried the two recoveries I made, and got the same result, a boot loop on trying to boot into recovery mode. Odin doesn't recognize the cwm 6.0.4.6 touch .img. But I don't think that is the problem, even though the download says its for sprint note 3 its not compatible. I'm running NC5 stock rooted, with Philz CWM 6.12.9 hltespr which has been bulletproof, maybe cwm 6.0.4.6 touch is out dated, most of the posts on the site appear to be from last year ?

You could give this a try, here is the link http://d-h.st/users/xiaolu/?fld_id=31963 I flashed the recovery on the bottom " n9005-cwm-recovery-6.0.4.7-kk(0125).tar " it's for Sprint devices to,
picked it up on Zedomax's site. I flashed it with odin works perfect, and it is full touch with menu keys on the bottom, so you don't use the device keys. You should be able to use mobile odin to install. It's the next version after 6.0.4.6 I think ?
