ICS WIFI - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm kind of new with the TB. The used phone had the OTA on it when I bought it.
The WIFI on this phone really sucks. If I look at my router log, it constantly disconnects and reconnects.
I don't see anyone complaining about it. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it so far. I think when he sold it to me he did a factory reset so I don't have the issues that others have.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Make sure the wifi isn't set to disconnect when the phone sleeps. Its in the advanced wifi settings.

Thanks...I've been playing with that. I was hoping for something else that might help.

The only other thing I could suggest is changing the wifi scan interval. Lower the number so it scans more often but its also possible that ics and your router don't agree.

Check your Radio versions--the Tbolt can be pretty temperamental if you aren't on the right combo. Santod has a link to the most recent ones over in the development section. Download, rename to PG05IMG.ZIP, reboot into bootloader and flash.
Also, are you sure you're running the most recent OTA? The earlier ICS builds were pretty janky.

I have realized that the latest isn't always the best. I have downgraded to the first official ICS radios and running so much better then latest.

Hey, whatever works; glad you found one that plays nice with your hardware. I'm not sure if it's still true, but in 2011-12 Tbolts had a reputation for being temperamental--it seemed like the radios were all very slightly different, hardware-wise, and things that worked on one handset wouldn't necessarily work on another. I've personally had good results with Santod's most recent pack (the decompressed version on infectedrom), but lots of people still swear by the radio from OTA 605.9.

Second this there were a bunch of tbolt that were defective

okay this is seriously getting annoying

im losing service all the time
when my phone is sitting there it says 1 bar and 3G
but when i try to use anything that uses internet its cuts off and loses service,
then goes back and says 3bars and using 1x, which works.
So basically it wont connect to 3G and says it only has 1 bar when my sisters works n 3G and says she has 3bars. and when i tether its extra slow since its running off 1x, and it loses service randomly while surfing internet, or texting, or when making a call. but when im on the phone the service never cuts out and shows 3bars
any ideas?

I've had thus problem on occasion also. A ton with cyanogen rom. Seems better on ic3. And also since I used a newer radio. It does still happen though. Kills battery quick when it does.

The radios are a bit of a finnicky thing. Some people love the newest and some love the original.
Location is the most important factor when dealing with reception. You can try all the different radios and see which works best for you. There are threads on these forums with all the different radios attached.
*FYI - Be very careful when flashing radios as you could brick your phone if done improperly.

That is the latest radio, but as I said before some people swear that the older ones work better for them. It doesn't hurt to try others and see if anything improves for you. Here is a link to the radio thread.

If you're not getting good signal reception it could be your rom like someone mentioned. Some roms have signal bugs ive heard. Do you normally get reception and good signal strength when this happens? I see you updated your prl, but one thing that worked better for me was flashing the verizon/alltel hybrid prl. Gives me a much better signal, but some people have reported opposite effects. Cant search too well with tapatalk so I cant give you the link but its on here somewhere.

[Q] Radio question

I'm new to the Thunderbolt world. Previously learned all I know from my old OG Droid. Then relearned all from my Droid X. Now on a tbolt. Learned all about this now. Currently running das bamf 1.6.3 and loving it. Sure would love gingerbread but unsure how daily cm7 is.
Anyway my question is this whole bit about radios. I read thru the radio thread and many others but still unclear as to what/which I should be running. I took a screenshot of my settings/about page that shows my current radio.
I'm not in a 4g area. I have not had a single reboot since i got the phone 13 days ago. Been running bamf since 9 days ago. from what i can tell, I'm on the old radio but thats where i get confused. this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13093559&postcount=1 has different setups and i'm unsure of what one to go with or if it is even necessary to change anything.
Any help would be great. I've been a lurker here for over a year but never needed any help until now. got to get my post count up haha. Thanks guys.

You're on the old radio, if you look in the baseband in the screenshot yours ends in r which is the stock version. The new one ends in w_1.
Im like you, i don't have 4G available to me either. I flashed radios and all i got was reboots. Flashed back to stock radio, reboots stopped, but tethering went to ****. I flashed the 2nd or 3rd radio down on the radio thread, an so far i have not had any reboots. So if its not broke, don't fix it, but if you must try the radios, do it in consecutive order down the list til you find one that works.
I really like the second radio from the top, it seemed to help my GPS lock on faster and I have a better signal. I also had issues of random reboots with the leaked new radio, so far with the second one on that page no reboots and increased performance.
Thanks guys. That's what I figured. Everything is working perfect...gps, calls, even 4G just worked driving thru easton pa. Nice to have everything working but addicted to this stuff lol.
Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone for now. Very happy with the tbolt but would love to see 2.3.3 or .4 with sense. Loving bamf remix but missing gingerbread from my Droid X. Damn phones. Wish I could have multiple haha.

Figures. Soon as I go getting cocky, my gps starts acting up. If I go to Maps, it finds me just about instantly. However if I go to navigation and click maps or driving directions, it says searching for gps. After 2 minutes I just backed out of it. Nuts.
Gps (first time I tried navigation on 1.6.3) worked perfect on 1.6.1. Why would it come up instantly on maps but not nav? Damn. Downloaded all the posted radios. Hoping I didnt have to use any...
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Flashed all listed in link. Gps still says searching on every radio. Going with link 1 for now and see how it goes.
The last link in the link I posted is the stock radio/baseband, correct?

I flashed the first radio on the list but it didn't update my LTE radio. Any thoughts why?
Unsure. I'm currently on the radio in link 1. Going great. Unsure of LTE changing. I don't have 4g here so I can't test if and how it works. Not sure how you check which LTE radio I have anyway... sorry I can't be more helpful.

No matter what I do.. the software and build number don't change.
Thanks for the response.
Just got the Gingeritis Rom, which is a 2.1 sense 2.3.4 gingerbread Rom, and getting the radio to work properly was a pain.
Just noticed my 6 bar reception in Bamf changes from white and full at my house to none periodically. Seems like it does out for a second. Maybe time for stock kernel again...

Question on wifi sleep

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site and fairly new to Android. Got a thunderbolt when it came out and rooted out a few months back. Currently running CM7 and have tried many bamf roms as well. Anyways, my question is about the wifi sleep setting. It's my understanding that wifi sleep being set to "never" means that when connected the wifi will stay on whether the phone is awake or not. That is not happening with my phone and it hasn't happened since I've had the phone that I can remember. Is this typical or an I missing something?
Sent from my rooted thunderbolt using Tapatalk
Must be a bug somewhere in CM. I'm using bamf forever 1.09 and my wifi never disables on sleep. Maybe a kernel issue also.

Thanks for the response!
I have tried multiple ROMs (including multiple BAMF ROMs) and I've had the same issue with all of them I believe. I think it was even happening while on stock actually. I wasn't paying much attention at to it at that point in time because I was new to Android and mesmerized by everything else I wasn't looking at that at all but I don't remember a time when I would wake my phone and it still be connected to Wifi.
Is there some sort of testing I can do to see what the issue is? I really like CM7 because my battery life is outstanding with it but I am open to flashing another ROM to see if that's the issue.
Anyone have any other ideas of what it might be/actions to try to determine the issue?
I flashed a new ROM yesterday (Infected Eternity) and it appears as though the wifi is maintaining connected while at rest. I'll keep an eye on it and update if anything changes. Looks like it must be something within CM7. Thanks for the heads up bpyazel!
On a side note, the new ROM seems to be pretty nice as well. Battery life has been acceptable (better than most of the other ROMs I've run, with the exception of CM7) and it also has a DarkHorse theme available which I am a fan of. I'll be sticking with this for a bit to see how much I like it.

[Q] Still stuck with 1X Data after 5 hours of work...

Hey guys,
I've been working all night to try and fix an issue I had with Cyanogen Mod. I couldn't get the GPS to work with the radio I had. So I tried flashing MR3 and I still had no GPS but had 3G / 4G / WiFi connectivity. Going back to MR2 restored GPS but I couldn't maintain data and only had 1X / WiFi.
I've messed with countless radio updates and ROMs trying to get this running again. Going to post my phone's stats:
ROM Current: BAMF Forever 1.0.5
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense Version: 3.0
Software Number: 2.11.605.0
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-ge8d3693 [email protected]
Baseband version: 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r
I need you guys to link me to a ROM, the more light weight the better, that has 3G / 4G, GPS, and WiFi (with tethering). That's all I require =)
If I need a specific radio, a link to that would be great. Thanks a lot.
It's not the ROM...
VZW's LTE is spotty in and out in some areas. I noticed mine first thing this morning...
There are other threads on other forums about it.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/21/psa-verizon-users-reporting-data-outages-across-the-us/
I laugh at how they state that 3G is working fine, while LTE isnt.
I can hardly even get 1x again.
Word is if you make a phone call you can get 3g back afterwards. Worked on the wife's bolt. Worth a shot at least

I have 3G just fine here. I don't get 4G service at this location so I force it to "CDMA Auto (PRL)" anyway.

I think you're right unfortunately. I wait 3 months to try and fix my GPS and the one night I try it, Verizon's entire data network is taking a crap.
I just assumed that the 1X was a radio issue. I now have 4G connectivity but it's definitely slower than it should be. About 1.4Mbps. My buddy right next to me clocked 10.4Mbps on his brand new Nexus...
I'd still love to get a recommendation on a ROM and Radio version to run. I hate this BAMF ROM.
Different ROMs and different radios will have minimal impact on 4g speeds, if that's your reason for wanting something different.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
LTE came back up in SE Michigan about 2 hours or so ago.
Upon reading the OP's next post, I tested my speed via the SpeakEasy Website's speed test, as I always do.
I don't know whether to **** or go blind, but inside my office just now I hit 22MB down and 4.5 up with 2 bars (out of 4)...I've never gotten more than 12 inside the office down...
Could be that no one is on it...could be a fluke, etc.
BAMF makes quality ROMs. I would bet it's not the ROM or the radio.
I've been using the latest radio leak found here in the developer thread.
I'm sure you already know this...but it's flashed in Bootloader, not recovery.
I'm almost 100% certain it's not the ROM...unless you got a bad download or something.
That being said...you are a few releases behind on their ROM. They are up to 1.10 Final now.
Good thing is there are a ton out there, it's what's best for you...not necessarily what we think.

You're right. My problem is there's too many and I'm tired of looking haha. I just wanted to flash a known good ROM and radio and get this over with. Tired of tampering with my phone.
New update:
I just flashed MIUI from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172235
and the MR3 radio from:
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/fo...151-rs-approved-guide-thunderbolt-radios.html
It's clear from the screenshot provided on the MIUI thread that the dev is using the MR3 radio which is why I chose to flash that.
But now my GPS doesn't work? Holy crap this is getting so annoying. Either my GPS works or my 4G works, I can't have both -_-
I'm trying to get my post count up without spamming the boards so I can post in the development section ;x
EDIT: Just found this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20312888&postcount=1141
Anyone know if it's true?
Are you sure your data/gps is not a phone issue?
Believe it or not I know a few people that replaced their battery door and data/gps was fixed. Antennas are on the door...
In regards to your question about that link, it may work but remember some solutions work for some and not for others. Only real way to know is to try it...

[Q] Got a Rezound last week, has the recent leaked ICS Build, some questions/concerns

So, I got a Rezound last week, kind of hoped that it would still have GB on it, but found out it had that recent ICS build on there. I didn't think much of it until a couple days ago...
First, I think I know the answer already, but since I have this "leaked build", I'm guessing there's no going back to stock GB? What was upgraded besides the ROM (baseband, firmware, etc)?
Second, people are saying that when I talk, it starts out at normal volume, then sounds like I'm holding the phone about 2 feet in front of me while talking (in other words sounding very distant), and coming back... Now, the only person who has actually described the problem is my dad, who has a Thunderbolt. My wife has an Inc2, and has not mentioned any problems, however she may not know what to listen for, as well as others, etc... I've also tried disabling 4g and using 3g only. I am wondering if this is some kind of radio issue?
Third, the bluetooth doesn't seem to have a lot of range. I have a couple bluetooth devices I use often. The first one is a Panasonic KX-TG6581 cordless phone which utilizes bluetooth on the handset to be used as an extension to the cell phone. On previous phones I got whole house coverage (I live in a single level 3000sq ft home). On the Rezound it disconnects at the ends of the house... I also have a Turtle Beach headset equipped with bluetooth. It seems to work fine when initially calling or getting a call, but then there's there's this weird static (kind of sounds like old dial up negotiating tones?). I wonder if this is because of bluetooth 3.0, but not ruling out the headset and rf/bluetooth interference
Last, even running with the extended battery, unless I shut off mobile data altogether when at home (which I should probably be doing anyway, but coming from other 4g phones I never noticed until now), I can stare it for 5 min and watch the percentage dropping. On wifi, not too bad. Just worried if I'm in 4g all day with no wifi will the extended battery last, say 12 hrs? I have no problems keeping it on AC power when at home.
Hope I didn't sound too noobish LOL... thanks for any suggestions.

if you have leaked ics (3.11.605.22) on your phone, you won't be able to return to stock gb.
how about re-flashing the leaked ics to see if the radio, bluetooth, and battery issues can be fixed.

When I got the phone, we did the sale inside a VZW store, the salesperson turned it on, and it was at the Welcome to Android screen... Thought it looked like ICS but wasn't 100% sure (should have double checked, I know)... even the rep didn't check... So, I'm guessing it was a fresh flash? Of course, not knowing exactly where it originally came from... don't know if that would make a difference?

Okay.. I'm a bit confused. Were there earlier leaks that would just let you install on a stock phone? I'm not rooted and saw that it was S-ON when I was in the bootloader?
Is the latest ICS the one that was released around 3/17? I just want to make sure I got the right one here...

Is the latest ICS the one that was released around 3/17? I just want to make sure I got the right one here...

Yeah there have been a few leaks. The older ones didn't run so well and didn't have the updated radios or hboot. The RUUs are supposed to be run on a locked phone. They are signed releases from HTC. Yes it was leaked around 3/17. I am on it as are many others and it runs fine.

Okay, I flashed with what I think is the latest leak. All bootloader info is the same except I have a radio of 1.22.10.308r is this the latest now?
Still having the same issues.... guess I'm stuck till the official ICS comes out so I can get a replacement?
