[Q] Often Freezing i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys , I'm having this often freezing problem(about every 30 minutes.)(once it freezed I let it unfreeze itself but it took about 20-30 minutes.) About a week now.
So I used better battery to see what has been going on. And I found out this.(screenshot)
I want to ask that if anyone has this freezing problem before? How can I fix it?
And what is this mmcqd/0 and kworker/0:1 ?
If you guys need other information about my phone now maybe will help:
- Rooted i9300 international
- Using Revolt 4.3 JB
- using Siyah 1.9.1 kernel
- Did factory reset before but still have this problem .

What is your rom ? Flashing another kernel should fix it

I'm currently using Revolt 4.3 jb ROM .
I used cm kernel before and I started having this problem... So I changed to siyah kernel but I'm still having this problem..

Ah so I'm not the only one!
I was running the ReVolt nightlies. I had it running the 24/04 from then until last night and it's only started occuring the past few days. I updated to the latest nightly last night and that made it even worse. So today I have installed the latest PA stable build, didn't work at first so I flashed Siyah kernal and I've only had one freeze in the past hour so fingers crossed this has fixed it!
I'll let you know if it hasn't.
EDIT: Still had problem, however I read this thread and have fixed the problem now! Basically make a large change to the memory (I was just restoring apps through titanium or you can use the app in the thread linked above) and the freeze should come, let it unfreeze by it's self (no battery pulls, should take 5-25 minutes) and then just keep letting it freeze and it will fix the memory and no longer freeze after a certain amount of time!
Sorry for any bad wording/spelling, I'm tired

Shutdown - openOptimus

Hi guys
Lately my phone has been shutting down without any apparent reason.
Most of the times it happens at night, but it has also happened during day when some hours go by without using it.
It's not a battery issue, since it happens with 80% 70% 60% (...) charged battery.
I don't need to remove the battery to turn it on again (like some cases I've read here), it turns on just fine, like nothing happened.
I'm using openOptimus 2.202.1 with franco 2.6.35.14
So... any ideas or debugging I might do?
I was planning on posting this on openOptimus dev thread, but since I've just registered, I can't
Thanks!
Actually most similar problems are solved by reflasing the ROM. The cause is in most cases something wrong in the /system partition or half-installed or half-removed tweaks. I had this problem 3 or 4 times, but every time I reflash the ROM this gets solved.
If reflashing fails go for data wipe (First backup with Titanium Backup/similar software). All applications can be backed up/restored using backup software, but after the wipe restore data to only the user apps, because bad data in system apps may cause the device to malfunction.
Hi Ianis,
I'll try that today and I'll give some feedback
Thanks
And, i had this problems all on OpenOptimus.. fixed it by flashing Oxygen

Hi mDroid,
but Oxygen is old baseband, right?
I've wiped everything and reflashed with openOptimus, so I'll be waiting to see what happens
Thanks

oh, you don't understand??
I HAVE WORKING OXYGEN OLD BASEBAND!
I HAVE WORKING OXYGEN OLD BASEBAND!
I HAVE WORKING OXYGEN OLD BASEBAND!
I HAVE WORKING OXYGEN OLD BASEBAND!
That should be enough...
I themed Oxygen like ICS, deodexed, zipaling, update kernel etc
uploading REALLY SOON
Well, it's been 24h and no shutdowns.
I'll keep an eye on it and report if it happens again, but seems reflashing did the trick...
Well, a few days have passed and no shutdowns. So, issue fixed.
Thanks

[Q] Screen off but won't wake, Why?

Hello SGS2 users! Has anyone experienced this problem before?
I was originally running VK 5.1.2 without a problem then I flashed RR 2.5.3; didn't really like the theme then I came across PFittech ROM GTX which I thought "Wow!".
After flashing, I noticed that when the screen went off and locked, it won't wake and I need to pull battery and reboot.
As you may know that is extremely inconvenient so I flashed stock rom and went back to VK 5.1.2 but this hasn't stopped the problem
I have done all the wipes (cache, dalvik, factory/data and format system!

Ur having SOD, sleep of death... when ur phone enters deepsleep it wont get up.
this is frequently related with UV, or poor bus freq.
u should flash a kernel cleaner like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738
or any other. then u have to flash a new kernal.
Thanks mate! Will try this now
Still there
Firstly, I flashed stock firmware, then I flashed cf-root. Went into recovery and done a full wipe and flashed the script.
I done another wipe then installed VK Rom (I have never had a problem with this) and left the phone for 30 secs on screen off and it came back.
What should I do next?
Should I check all settings for CPU and GPU? Revert them to standard? I don't touch those settings as I don't have a great knowledge of changing volts and clock speeds.
Maybe you could let it on stock (unrooted) and see if it happens again...

You can just wipe data, dalvic and cache and try salmanrom its the best I promise, you will never go back to another aokp rom!

I flashed the stock LPB firmware and used it for a full day and I never experience any SoD. Tried a few custom roms and still having the error.
Although there may seem there is nothing wrong with the phone, I have never had a problem with any roms I use. All the roms I am trying are previous downloads that have worked successfully so I doubt there is any corruption.
I won't be giving up and I will be trying everything and anything... the now I am going to try Gingerbread based roms and see if I still get the error. If anyone else has any more ideas please tell me.

Can i suggest u to use rootbox ics?? Is almost flawless and i thinkbu wont have any problem
If u still getting sod u could try giving a little more voltage to ur cpu or bus...if u use fluxi with this rom is very easy to do that

Im a first time root user i flashed RR 2.5.3 with fluxi kernel over my stock ics its running very smoth and had no problem so far
You might need to check your cpu frequency i read her that if it was set to less than 200Mhz you might have the sleep of death issue

I have tried RR 2.5.3 and had no problems in the past but now it is also giving me the SoD. Only on stock firmware I don't get it and I don't touch the cpu freq but I will take a look on the clock freqs.

I always do a full wipe but today I've seen something unusual.
Kernel Panic Upload Mode came up when the phone was off?
I am flashing back to GB and see if any SoD appear.
Mate, there is something wierd with ur phone...
There sure is.. I am running KI3 GB with CF Root and not received any SoD. Seems to be only on custom roms?
Good news! I fixed it!
What I did:
First of all, I had an extended battery and I swapped it for the old battery (Because of case with stand it won't fit)
Flashed stock GB (XXKI3)
Flashed CF-Root KI3
Full Wipe (Cache, Factory/Data, Dalvik, Battery stats)
Format System
Flashed Kernel Cleaner
Flashed VK 5.1.2
Flashed Siyah 3.3.2
So after doing all this, the SoD has gone. So it must be a problem with Fluxi on my device.
I may be wrong but after doing this the problem stopped and I am happy again
So thank you to you all who tried to help!
I have the same problem, except my SOD also has high battery drain even though the phone is pretty much useless. Very annoying when you are relying on the alarm clock. Did you also notice high battery drain?
I found it happened on Thebyani 4.3, not on 4.4, and now it happened on 4.5. Im hoping the kernel cleaner and the latest Siyah kernel will fix it. Any kernels you guys recommend if it still happens?

well gr8 then mate!
Q: could u ever tryed giving some more voltage to cpu in fluxi?
I had a high battery drain already abd i bought a new extended battery. I am charging the device the now and it has heated but i took it off and turn it off to cool. I am going to recalibrate the battey
Try doing what I did to see if it helps.
Flash a stock unrooted firmare and see if you still get SoD
Ive been using my phone since i posted and not had one SoD.
Do you mess with your freqs? Try keeping them to basic

[Q] Suffering frozen or sudden death still

Hi everyone,
I bought my international version last year June , and everything went well as soon as I upgrade to 4.1.2. My csc is TPA I guess is from Panama. Anyway, I felt a little laggy and then I flashed custom rom ( always stock rom before). I flashed omega, wanalite, aokp, liquidsoomth and so on. At first I suffered from sudden death or frozen (I have to press power button until it reboot), I thought it might because custome rom is not stable as stock, but so many roms that I've tried all have the same problems. Then I knew there is Sds problem, but even I flash those custom kernel to fixed it, some times still sudden death or frozen. Can anyone give some ideas to fix this? And I found that google apps cause death and frozen as well.
Thank you guys, I need this help.
Sudden death does not equal freeze afaik. It means your phone dying completely. As for freezing, if you didn't get any freezes from stock, I suggest you leave it on stock.

Yes I wiped all data (after a backup) wipe cache, dalvik cache.
I finally got frustrated n reflashed the ROM ( without wiping data) but not the kernel. The rom has stock kernel. I think there is an improvement. Will post the outcome.
Thanks for replying :cyclops:
I've been using the phone on stock kernel for 2 days now. There is definitely an improvement. The phone isn't freezing at all. The music might skip once maybe in half an hour ( I can live with that ). If anyone is facing the same problem I suggest you switch to stock kernel. Oh and the battery life rocks.

[Q] Xperia t - after update to cm11 blue screen crashes

Hello,
I flashed my xperia t (using flashtool) with a stock firmware 4.3 that had cwm6.0.4 already with it. Then from the cm update options in settings i updated it to latest version of cm11 Nightly (20140430). I had also flashed gapps for 4.4 kit kat. Everything was working fine, but then it crashed with a blue screen and rebooted. Then it happened again and again like every 20/30 minutes. Last time it has happened, i was trying to change my background and the blue screen came up and rebooted. Does anybody know what the problem might be? I greatly appreciate your help.
Ok, I'm pretty sure i know what the issue is. I noticed that cm11 overclocked my processor to fastest available and that is what was crashing the phone. I think.
And this is related to aokp how?
