[Q] QI support on E970/971/973 - AT&T LG Optimus G

Hello all-
Has anyone investigated this? As far as I am aware the OG models had this stripped from the specifications even though the E960 does support it..
Is there any retrofit kit available to enable this on Optimus Gs? On the Nexus 4 is it simply a dedicated battery pack, or would other hardware changes be necessary for an Optimus G?

I took the back off an E960 display at AT&T and didn't realize what those contacts did. Thought it was like my old Dell Streak where it would break the circiut and power off if cover was removed.

If only lol. It would be nice for this thing to have qi charging as well. Confused as to why it's in the nexus 4, but LG didn't put it in the Optimus G.

Can someone help me my phones battery skips stupidly like for one it dies at 4% and two if I go to my battery stats(I'll post image) there spikes ive already gotten this replaced because of this and even my new one is doing it

Nexus 4 to Optimus G

I have an offer for cash plus a Optimus G for my Nexus 4. I am fairly considering since im need the cash too. Considering I see that the Optimus G can be converted to a Nexus 4 and seems like there are some fixes for the problem such as LTE, SD card, is there anything I should know that the Optimus G cant do that my Nexus 4 can?
Well, the Nexus 4 will get the latest updates for Android OS straight from Google, whereas LG phones get updates somewhere between "eventually" and "never." The Optimus G even launched with ICS, which is several versions old now. The methods to convert an OG to a Nexus 4 can be pretty dicey.
If you're set on making the trade, make sure his phone is working properly (it boots, you can make and receive calls and connect to wifi and 3G/4G, the 16GB SD card is present and operational, there are no cracks on the exterior, Windows can see it when you connect a USB cable, the front and back cameras work, speaker works), make sure that the phone does not have any apps that will freak when you install a new SIM card, and be prepared to perform a master reset on the phone, because you want to start clean.
Also confirm that the phone is the E970 model. (Settings button, all settings, tap "General," scroll down to the bottom, tap "About Phone," select "Phone identity," and it's listed at the end.) The Optimus G comes in many flavors, but the E970 is the one designed to work on the AT&T network in the US.
Make sure the phone is rootable (I think there was a recent OTA that blocked our current method of getting root, not sure). The nexus 4 conversion isn't too dicey, if you know what you're doing. It really only goes wrong if your phone disconnects during it or power goes out, etc. I've done it 2-3 times now. I even converted back to stock to exchange it for a non-dysfunctional device (hardware issues), they didn't notice and gave me a new one. Which I then converted back to nexus 4. There are some glitches with the conversion though, but they are pretty much all fixed. A few developers here are working on AOSP ROMs for this device, which they will hopefully release soon. Which means the conversion wouldn't be necessary anymore.
Hardware differences I can think of:
Optimus G supports SD Card expansion
Optimus G supports LTE
Optimus G has capacitive keys
Optimus G does not support wireless charging like the Nexus 4
Notification light placement is different
They look different
If you're comfortable with the less-thriving developer community here (compared to the Nexus 4), and like the Optimus G's hardware, I'd go for it. Ultimately the choice is up to you. :good:
Assuming the Optimus G is in good condition, it's a good deal. Right now there is the N4 Conversion, and the ability to run N4 roms without conversion is coming very soon. I think the screen is nicer imo on the G.
This is not a good deal, he wants Cash money PLUS an OG for his N4.. So he is sort of offering to mug you and then forget him phone behind...
The N4 are built with inferior cpus/ every OG I have seen has scored Fast or fastest where as they score slow and slower often, the screens do not look as good... Lacks LTE and expandable storage...

I think you are going about this the wrong way. If you want to trade for a Optimus G, I think you should be the one giving money with the trade. There are a few things the OG has that the Nexus 4 doesn't. I think it's kind of ballsy on your part to actually ask for money with this trade. Anyone can buy a Nexus 4 brand new for $350 or under but you will pay more than that for a brand new unlocked OG. I think the OG is a better phone personally. His trade isn't worth it.

I had the nexus 4 its a good phone but on ATT the data speeds were just WAY to slow and I would say the optimus G is faster and has better battery life
Considering that there are officially NO MORE PROBLEMS with the N4 conversion (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160124), the OG is actually a N4 with LTE and SD card support. I'd probably take that offer, but needless to say you should probably make sure and check that everything is actually working (properly mounts in your computer, LTE works, *ADB* works, etc..).
EDIT: GPS is buggy for some people...So the conversion almost has no more problems..almost..

Surprisingly, the Nexus 5 will kill the G2...

I really don't understand this move by LG (if correct). They are just killing the G2.
According to a believable source, the Nexus 5 is going to have two variants, while the more expensive one ($399) will have 32GB, and, get this, a 3000mah battery !!
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57606477-94/nexus-5-16gb-version-reportedly-will-sell-for-$299/
Why, on earth, should anyone prefer the G2 under these circumstances ?
We still have several days to ditch our G2, before it loses its value...
My only question is then, why did LG made such a big issue out of the G2, if two months later they are giving almost same hardware for 60% the price...
I doubt that the 32GB version will have a 3000mAh battery.
The N5 16GB was listed for 350$ earlier today in the PlayStore.

It's a subsidized price from Google, not LG. Google will take hit on every hardware sold and make up for it in the long term from play store purchases. This is how the Console industry has been working, PS3 and Xbox were sold at loss, but profit was made out of software.
32 GB G2 will settle for a price around 500$, price of Nexus 5 will stay the same for the life cycle. Also G2 has a better camera, IR blaster, 3000 mAh Battery is still not confirmed for 32 GB model, it is a rumour.
I would still buy G2 over Nexus 5, because stock android sucks.
If the Nexus 5 is going to have a 3000mah varient, the G2 will never have a developer community. In that case I think we should all switch to the Nexus 5, we'll earn money (if we sell the G2 soon), have normal volume/power buttons, and the best developer community one could imagine. What will we be sacrificing ? 0.2 inch in screen size, and several megapixels in camera ? that really doesn't cut it.

Don't get you.... An old article as a proof to rumors?
As someone above posted the Cheaper one will go for 349 dollars. That means for me 349 euro. (even though our retailers will make 549 from it like they always do....)
Here you can get the LG G2 460 euro. If the more expensive of the N5 will be for min 400 more like 449 euro it will be just few Euro difference.
And we still don't know how it will be. If the USB OTG function will not be working again. Lesser camera. Battery. No radio, too many unknowns.
No matter how much you compare it. Maximum the N5 value will match the G2 at least in my country.
For sure not kill it.

The question is why on earth are you still here and trolling? You only post threads to bash the G2. It's like a G2 murdered your family and now you are all pissed at it. Not every country have the low Google prices, not every carrier will get nexus 5. Please just sell your G2 so we can stop having to deal with your whining.
So what if it has 3k battery and 32gb? So does my G2. Really don't understand why that is a game changer even if it is true.

I would take the G2 instead of the Nexus 5 just for the Knock On feature (and the larger screen comes second). I can't believe how useful that feature is to me. I also use the FM Radio and IR remote every day. I also don't want to wait again for months until the Nexus 5 is in stock, etc. I barely got the Nexus 4 three months after release, first waiting for it to be in stock, then finding a reasonably fast and secure way to import it to my country. No thanks.
As for the software, I won't go back to the stock Android limitations like not being able to set different sound volumes for calls and notifications.
Kit Kat 4.4 will be available for the G2 very soon, probably a few weeks from the Nexus 5 launch. But I just don't care anymore what Android version my phone has. The last few versions have been sufficiently good as to not care which one I am running.
I'm wondering if the Nexus 5 has anything to do with the Sprint G2 being delayed a little? Maybe Google told them to kick the Nexus 5 production into high gear, so they don't have the same shortages as every other device launch in the past?

Seriously?

Thinking about getting the G2 !

So I'm trying to decide between the G2 , the One , and the S4. I was about to order the One until I saw the G2 on sale , so I kind of want the G2 now. But I'm worried about 2 things. One is I've read up on a lot of people who have dropped the G2 from a low height and the screen cracked. And on top of that most of the stories I've read the digitizer doesn't function properly or the phone just wont turn on. Is this a big problem with the G2? I don't mind the screen cracking , but if it cracks AND doesn't work that worries me. Also , will development pick up for this device? I know it came out not too long ago , but will there be more Roms ported from the Nexus 5 since its the same hardware ( Mostly ) ? Also what are the advantages over the S4 and the One? I know the G2 has better specs but is it really that noticeable ? And since I root my phones and install just stock CM etc will there really be a noticeable difference in speed for me ?
And if I root the device as soon as I get it , and install a custom Rom , theres a way to flash it back to stock to where they'll take it back right? ( The Verizon version )
Yes it is noticeable and the phone has amazing battery comparable to the note 2 which was amazing btw I came from the s4 and the camera is much better less chance of blurring
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
Here is another tid bit even on a wind mobile version of s4 which comes with no carrier bloatware and lone behold Samsung put it's on bloatware apps on it...then you have to remember to turn off their 50 useless features that you will never use and kill your battery quicker then quick.

It's truly an awesome phone. I'm also coming from Note 2 and yeah this thing blows that out of the water. Honestly the G2 launcher is pretty incredible. As someone else mentioned, it's like LG mimicked CM a bit. So many options and customizations and features. I sometimes help a coworker out with his Note 3 and after getting the G2 it really shows how stale/outdated TouchWiz feels these days.
I've mostly had Samsung devices (Epic Touch, Epic Touch 4G, Note 2 and GS3 a bit (wife's), now on G2 and couldn't be happier. Really a beautiful phone with amazing battery life.
For the first time in a long time I am not running a home launcher. LG did a fine job putting this OS together for the G2. There are so many small things LG has done right with this phone that I am not regretting the switch from Samsung. As others have mentioned the battery life is just amazing!
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk
This phone is great, it looks good and has a beautiful 5.2" screen. I bought one, but unfortunately I returned it and kept my S4 (octocore) for a few reasons.
G2 PROS:
- Big and bright screen.
- Good looking phone.
- Excelent battery life.
- SnapDragon 800.
G2 CONS:
- Underperforming GPU. Adreno 330 on G2 perform as much as Adreno 320. Z1, Z Ultra and N3 Adreno 330 are much better.
- Screen can't keep constant 60 FPS on games, probably has some synch issues. Even when the GPU is capable. It just fluctuates all the sime between 55 and 60 FPS.
- Some color banding.
- Some physical vertical lines on screen, once you notice it is a little annoying.
- No SDCARD, the 32GB model is mandatory.
Since I mostly use my phones for gaming, the GPU problems is what make me hold my S4 and ditch my G2, otherwise I would have keep it.
PS. If LG fixes GPU problems with update, I would happily take this phone again
But has anybody dropped their phone a few times without it breaking ?
I haven't heard of any screen cracking when dropped, but I would assume whoever didn't have a case look their phone. It's easy to crack a phone when our has no case. I have a Tech21 case and was throwing the phone around the mobile store and nothing broke on the phone so I'm happy. As far as development is concerned, I hope it does pick up, but the stock is ok for me right now because I'm rooted and I don't need to tether. I actually sold my S4 for this. It had too much lag with tw for me. And last, yeah you can flash it back to stock. Imo this is one of the nicest phones on the market

If you're worried about durability then cross out the S4. I haven't dropped the G2 but my old S4 easily got its screen cracked when I dropped it while it had a case on. Overall, I prefer the G2 over the S4. Can't speak for the One though since I never used it but supposedly the One's successor is going to be released in Q1 of next year so you may want to take that into consideration.

I in the same boat. I'm about to switch carriers (Sprint) And the only phones i'm interested is the G2 and the HTC ONE. I have a S4 as we speak...
I'm tired of TW since I used to have it in S2 days. And it is no different than the S3.. Comes to find out my S3 takes better pictures than my S4 weird.. In any case I have had bad experience with LG when I had the G2X (OPTIMUS 2X) LG completely forgot about that phone and was not giving support for it neither releasing source code.. And that phone had an NVIDIA Tegra processor witch they wont release their source code either.... So I've seen before the Optimus G after a while of it being released and still had a lock bootloader. What I care much is development support.. Because if the manufacture not supporting it we will be the only ones that do and for that to happen this phone have to have support of maufactoring for releasing source code and enabling unlocking bootloader. I see that the G2 is doing pretty good and that Is why I would like to give it another chance. I know they said that they want to turn things around the company when they released this device and I hope they do for the best. The HTC one is the other phone i'm interested in but the lack of the camera comparation between this phone and the One I seen online Makes me want to slap HTC.
It wont be long before i make the switch to sprint and till then I will be looking more into the G2 to see if development picks up... Another cool thing is if I could flash International roms on the Sprint G2. That should be good more developers working together.

I got a G2 recently and am 93% happy with it.
I was coming form a Nexus 4 and was certain I would get a Nexus 5. At the last minute while looking at the displays in the store and testing how they felt in my hand, I decided to go for the G2.
The missing 7% is the plastic back and the lack of wireless charging. These are both things that are superior on the Nexus 5 that I wish I could have on the G2. Especially wireless charging, the Nexus 4 spoiled me in that regard. It's just so much better for wear and tear on the phone's USB port which had been a problem area for me on my Galaxy S2, plus the tilted charging orb of the Nexus made a handy pseudo-dock. I am still glad I went with the G2 because the screen, battery life, and camera are all better but I do miss the wireless charging and rubberized back of the Nexus 5.

My pet peeve is the sprint variant is lacking a lot of ROM options. And no MIUI . And i cant talk and surf on lte. BUT this phone rocks.

Coming from the Atrix HD I like my G2: big screen, no lag, nice interface. I miss the ability of the Atrix HD file manager to access my PC as remote storage. I know I can do the opposite with wireless storage but when working on the phone it means having to go back and forth to the PC.
to me:
battery - very good
speed - can lag through menus, but ok
camera - i'd say between ok and poor compared with a Note 2 that I owned. photos seems to be fuzzier. + as usual LG photos take too much space (for less better). OIS... this shouldnt be a strength. macro shots are good
memory - if you take many long videos and photos, stock many music and movies in it, this phones not for you. an additional usb storage to move or stock data is required
LG UI... - good, I don't find it too much like some tests say. too bad settings background is white, i would have preferred black. I don't use Slide Aside but it's interesting, sometimes Q-slide and QuickMemo.
Image edition = very poor
Video Editor is really good, too bad you can't use imported photos and videos (some videos may work).
weather app - not really accurate
voice mate - don't use it. just did a few times just for fun
keyboard - don't like. can't have suggestion when clicking on a word that was mispelled (like Samsung keyboard). the second line of letters doesnt fill the entire space. several keyboard themes is interesting though
microphone - good quality
KnockOn is a ++. I find myself dumb when double tapping on other phones to unlock the screen
all of this coming from stock rom with no "make the phone better" apps.

I have wireless charging on my D802...
I just bought a QI tag that fits between the phone and the cover (invisibly) and plugs in to the mini USB. Works like a charm for about £10 :good:
Great phone. For the 3+ months I have had it I haven't had an issue.
-Beautiful screen with minimal bezel
-Great battery 24+hours/5+ hours screen time
-Plenty of dev support
-Big fan of the rear keys + knock on/off
-Fast. Haven't experienced any lag (using Nova Launcher)
Only negative is the slow updates from LG. With a custom skin I don't think updating is as crucial but I want 4.4 so I can use google wallet again
browser stock

[Discussion] LG G6 Mega Thread

Hi everyone, as we all know the LG G6 is out and will soon be available to buy. So here in this thread you can talk about anything: Expectations, advices, battery life, user experience...etc. Enjoy :good:
Great. Who's getting one first? lol

I'll be getting one, but only 1) after root is attained and 2) it's been in people's hands long enough to know it WON'T explode! (Note 7 anyone).

LG never had this kind of issues, but it had the bootloop issue for example which is way less serious/dangerous

I am interested in the G6. I think the pricing is going to be a lot more than last years G5 potentially. I am a bit miffed that the UK model won't get wireless charging or the Hi-Fi Dac and only comes in 32gb base storage.
Yeah hi-fi would do it for me. Gui looks decent but need to see it in action.

Yes but this is LGs first attempt at a flagship with non removable battery. So anything is possible.

No so. I have a Verizon LG G2 with wireless charging built in and non removable battery. LG's done this before. Best phone I ever had.

Exactly the G2 had non removable battery, best phone i ever had i regret selling it
Yes. G2 actually is/was one of the best phone I had. And it still has many support here in xda.
I recently bought lg V20 and I feel there is no much difference between g6 and v20. Unless someone can show me otherwise. I think I'll probably wait for v30 or g7.
The new SD 385 really seems tempting, and those battery and performance improvements would really help a lot as I am a power user.

I stand corrected. However, batteries have gotten way more volatile in the last couple years. I don't think it's gonna be an issue with that heat pipe tho. Still, root is needed for sure.

LG phones never had problems with root and similar stuff hope the G6 wont be an exception
I will not buy one for the same reason I did not buy G5 - they removed everything that made G4 stand out:
-curved screen
-volume buttons on the back (seriously, this alone is enough for me not to buy the phone)
-app drawer (please don't say that there are launchers - launchers suck bad and slow down the phone)
-bigger screen (G5 had smaller display, while the size of the phone was pretty much the same as G4)
-I can now add - removable battery
It was always amazing to me how big companies like LG remove features from their devices, then wonder why people do not buy the new version. My G4 works flawlessly and I do not think that the bump in cpu power has any real use for me. So no, thank you. G6 will be a flop.
So when the big launch date? March 10th???
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk
why lg used imx258? 1.12 micron pixel size 1/3.06" sensor is not flagship class.

That's the big question! FCC has had a look, I think:

So maybe sometime soon we'll get an announcement.
