Default [HOW TO] Restore S4 Samsung Boot Animation
This is originally taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41197343
How to Restore Original Samsung Boot Animation
This requires Root and a root file manager.
1 - Download and extract the S4_Original_BootAnimation.rar
https://www.dropbox.com/s/41d4csi1eyxvytg/S4_Original_BootAnimation.rar?v=0mcns
Make sure you have R/W permissions in system/media before copying over.
2 - Copy the files from the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip to the system/media folder replacing the original files.
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg
shutdown.qmg
3 - Copy the file from the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip to the system/media\audio\ui folder replacing the original files
PowerOn.ogg
PowerOff.ogg
(I renamed my originals just to be safe.)
4 - Don't forget to match permissions on the files as well. If you simply rename the originals to .bak or something like that, the files will be right under it basically rw-r--r-- on all files.
Alternately, if you do not want to download; you can make a copy of, and rename the bootsamsung.qmg bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg that are already located in your system/media folder, and PowerOn.ogg it is already located in your system/media\audio\ui folder
If you want to disable sound go to:
system/media/audio/ui and search for PowerOn.ogg and PowerOff.ogg. Just rename it to PowerOn.ogg.backup and PowerOff.ogg.backup (or any other extension). Well done!
Reboot your phone and you should no longer see the Verizon animations or sound.
If you want a custom BootAnimation animations i will Put them here when someone make a working one and that i have test it. Make sure you give them the create
and not me!!

The process was a little cumbersome because I decided to save and unpack the file from my Dropbox, but it worked. I like the sound, it reminds me of the Enterprise from the new Star Trek movies, ja ja.

Would it be possible for somebody to make / test the BF3 animation at this link, for our S4??

Don't forget to match permissions on the files as well. If you simply rename the originals to .bak or something like that, the files will be right under it basically rw-r--r-- on both files.
As an extra pre-caution, I generally set the permissions on the root back to r/o.
Then reboot.

Fyi, just renaming them doesnt work for me. It takes away yhe use of the power button to turn the screen off. Still works to reboot but the screen wont turn off. I just did the audio, since its what bugs me tbe most. Thx

I made a flashable zip for all to help. I tested it on Stock Deodexed ROM, but it will also work with Odexed ROM's too.
Flash in CWM or TRWP.
Enjoy.

Stupid question but if I rooted my stock Touchwiz and didn't do anything else yet, is that an ODEX version that can be flashed via TWRP with this?

from your post your question was, is there a odex version you can flash and yes there is.
stock rom can be either odex or deodex, the software that came on your phone is odex.

no problem. just be careful what you flash. make sure its odexed or else you're gonna have a bad time. sadly most mods are for deodexed roms, if you want to use them just flash the deodexed version of the stock rom

The fix I applied manually with an odexed ROM, and then made the zip and tested with a deodexed, so it works with both.

Flashed this and although it worked, my rom went back to "stock", all my tibu frozen apps got defrosted, settings changed back to stock...etc
Guess i will have to do it the manual way.

no clue what u mean by 3 rows lol, care to expand?
It says "Screenshot"... and yet there is none.
Perhaps "three rows" refers to additional row space on each home screen? And I'd probably be interested in a 'trimmed-down' launcher.
I think its 3 screens instead of normal 5.

For anyone having issues with the given instructions and would like to do it graphically using a file explorer the instructions are quite simple.
1. Open file explorer of choice (Root Explorer or ES which is free) and navigate to the downloaded modified apk.
2. Rename file to Launcher2.apk if it is not already.
3. Navigate to /system/app and make a backup of your original Launcher2.apk.
4. Copy and paste the modified file from your download location into /system/app and replace the original.
5. From here all you have to do is reset or go to your settings and force kill the Launcher app under "All".
6. You will notice that any widgets you had will be gone/malfunctioning. This is normal. Simply delete what is left and replace what you had as normal. Apps should stay the same.
Could you possibly make another one of these for UEKMB? I noticed that you said this mod is for P7500XWKG9. I am using P7510UEKMB and it is very choppy and jittery. (Which is to be expected, of course.)
I am assuming it is as simple as applying the same modification to Doc's UEKMB Touchwiz Launcher2.apk found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188701
Thanks funky81!

VERY cool! Just a quick question, this doesn't affect anything that b00sted is working on with the task bar modifications, does it? What I mean is, if I modify the task bar with one of his selections, reboot, modify the launcher, and reboot, it won't revert back to the stock TW task bar, right? I don't know if they are two separate mods in the /system folder or not because I don't have the TW ROM installed yet
Thanks in advance and great work!

See post 2 for instructions to install on your ROM.[/SIZE] If you have any problems, see this thread to get some assistance. Ask me if you cannot download any of the files for any reason.
This is a work in progress and will be updated regularly. If you have a boot animation that you have confirmed to work, please PM me or comment below so we can get it on this page. Those who have created these animations or provided them for us, including myself, are not responsible for what happens to your phone. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I do not take credit for creating any of these animations (except for Crysis 2 and Iron Man).
If you try one of these boot animations and it works, please comment and say so and say which ROM you are using. If you are a developer and know where these should go in your ROM, please let me know. Also, if you know who created these, I would love to put their name next to the file to give credit.
Rom-Addict for all of his help (don't even think he has a Rez and he still helps.)
PhantomApollyon for help with ROM compatibility.
MrSmith317 for ROM compatibility and flashable help.
Marine6680 for the idea of creating a separate thread for these boot animations.
The creators of these animations for our use.
Despotovski01 for his boot animation creator.
All the devs for giving us these awesome ROMS to actually play with.

If I could possibly make a request to all my fellow Rezounders...Please test these boot animations on the various ROMs so I can make a note of what works and what doesn't work. I would also love to add plenty more. These are all ones that I already had or were given to me by Rom-Addict (thanks again, brother). It would be cool if we could all get together and build up an awesome list for everyone to use. If you have one that is not the correct resolution, just send it my way. I'll be happy to fix it up for everyone so it fits our screens and looks awesome.

It seems to have everything to do with folder structure from what I can gather by looking at Rom-Addict's changes so far but we'll see shortly, he's already got one that's up and working for me on reboots in addition to power offs but now we have to fix the image resolution. If that works then we are home free
Just realized this should probably be in development. Could a moderator perhaps move this thread into development? If it should stay here, that's all good.

Once we get BAMF figured out as we were doing via pm's I'm pretty positive everything will fall in line as most ROM's with the exception of a few don't change the basic structure of how the boot animations are working.

Thanks, Scrosler. Phantom and Rom-Addict are hashing out BAMF and should be able to get these working on all of the ROMs. The issue isn't with the boot animation, necessarily. It's mainly about the file location and what to call it. We'll get this worked out and I'll make sure everything is updated.

installation instructions:
1.download bootanimation.zip
2.open your favorite Root file explorer
3.navigate to /data/local
4.copy or move the downloaded bootanimation.zip to /data/local thank you dallas.maverick for info on easier install method
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
if you encounter random reboot after applying boot animation:
6. FIX PERMISSION USING ROM MANAGER, Terminal, or through Root File Browser to r-x w-x e-x all accounts
As I stated, I will try to bring you higher quality tablet optimized boot animation as my time permits, so If you have any suggestions, let me know
Enjoy!
Damn man. That's really tight!
Thanks man. Spent like 3 days trying to figure out how to compress the frames without losing quality. Think I have it dialed in now.
I'll put up an optimized ICS boot animation tonight since the original is little grainy and bright.

Just a suggestion, in my opinion, its better to place the bootanimation.zip in /data/local/. That ROM will first attempt to read from there, if it can't find anything, it picks up the zip file from /system/.....You don't need to mount /system and can just delete the animation.zip if you don't like it. Automatically revert back to default. This approach should work great if you are testing to come up with that perfect bootanimation.zip.

lol, my bad.
Im getting a feedback saying it loads portrait on CM9..
can anybody out there running cm9 confirm this please?
I just did my own boot animation (which will be moved here when a Mod reads the report), and I can personally say that CM9 loads my boot animation in LANDSCAPE mode (it should be in portrait). So if it's an animation that should be taller than it is wide, it loads wider than it is tall.

thats just bizzare.. I just unpacked cm9 to check their boot ani, and its packed and oriented normally..
do I need to edit the resolution also??? since I do all my animation in landscape ill just have to re-orientate which is not bad
Ok
Since I figured out wtf was going on with the boot animation on CM9. I have made the modifications and uploaded ICS versions of the animation.
if you are on CM9 or any other ICS builds, please download and apply the ICS version.

Just wondering if the "fix permission from ROM Manager in case of random reboots" is really needed. I never encountered any issues, I just place the file as is in /data/local. Did anyone run into reboots? If not, we can probably remove it from OP. I just got a PM by a user who wasn't clear about the permissions part in the steps, for now, I told him he can skip it.
Also, maybe it's jut me but I can't do fix permissions from ROM Manager anymore anyways in CM9 or in Classicnerd. If it is indeed an issue, the steps may throw off more people on ICS.

You don't unzip it, you keep it as a zip file and you transfer that over to system/media.

This isn't a .QMG bootanimation, therefore you must be using a stock kernel which doesn't support .zip bootanimations. You'll have to use a kernel / ROM which supports this (any ROM or kernel besides stock will do).

Guys, this is a .ZIP bootanimation. You must confirm if your kernel uses: .ZIP or .QMG bootanimations. Stock TouchWiz and TouchWiz BASED Kernels do NOT support .ZIP bootanimations.
If you're using ktoonsez kernels make sure it's the AOSP (only if you're using a AOSP based ROM obviously) version. I'm running "KT-SGS4 AOSP 7-11-2013" myself and it works fine.
Hope this help's in understanding why it won't work for some of you I might start making .QMG bootanimations also if I can get the hang of Samsung Theme Designer
Any chance of converting it to a. QMG boot animation? I've never made a boot animation, so I don't know if that's possible. If it is, I would love to learn.

Nice work! Looks really smooth. :good:
No problem using it on SHO 2.0 w/ included Jeboo's 1.4 kernel (it's a TW-based kernel). For those that are applying, be sure to set the permissions correctly after you copy to /system/media or it won't work.
