[Q] S3 with stock FW changes itself to home screen - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since a few days my S3 is opening the home screen itself, so basically the same action as pressing the main button of the S3. It does that especially after a fresh start for 2-3 minutes in an interval of 10~ seconds and afterwards randomly. Surprisingly this doesn't happen in fullscreen games.
There is no black screen or any pause, it simply changes the the homescreen in a normal way and I have no idea why.
Does anyone has an idea what could cause this problem?
I removed a few applications recently like Link2SD, SDBooster and Volume Locker. Are the removals maybe related with this issue?

[Q] Stop buttons turning phone on

Done a search and can't find a solution...
With the 'easy to press' buttons on the HD2 the phone screen keeps powering on in my pocket (I use phone lock to stop auto dialling).
This is draining the battery...
Any way to stop this happening? Say, have just the power button only turn on the screen, after a long press for example???

Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.

I have this same issue and I've got a stock 3.14 tmobile rom but when I go to settings / system /, there is no options for keylock settings. is that on a custom rom?
+1 for this
From new my phone used to have the option of locking all buttons except the power key ... until I did my first hard reset, then it vanished! I would have thought the settings app would have been in the ROM, so restored after the hard reset, but obviously not.
Anyone have a cab for it or care to extract it from their HD2?
<quote>Try settings / system / keylock settings. There are options to set the buttons as non responsive except for the power button.</quote>
Nope, no such option on my HD2...
Seems we need 'keylock.exe'
Anyone got it and know if it will work in an HD2?
Ok, at least I know I'm not unique now...
i've installed Hd2ProximityScreenOff-0.2.cab which I guess turns the screen back off quickly if an "in-pocket" button press brings the screen to life. (can't confirm what happens in my pocket, but seems to do the trick in my hand)
but I'd really like to know if someone knows how to get to this keylock setting

Take a look at my signature. I'm using NRG ROM, which I highly recommend.

ahh crap, noob mistake. sorry.
any chance you can dig up where "settings / system / keylock settings" points?
maybe it points to something already in the stock rom?

i can install the stock rom update right from tmo, and install cabs and crap, but not yet ready to make the leap to customer roms (or android for that matter)
try pocketshield software. it has feature that turns your screen immediately off if its in pocket etc with proximity sensor, also its great and cool.

[Q] No Lockscreen on my 3VO?

Edit!
I fixed the problem. I was going over my apps and their settings and I noticed that one of them, battery indicator pro had a lockscreen off feature which was flipped on. Totally weird! But I have my lockscreen back! Woot!
End edit :-D
Out of curiosity, has anyone else experienced this?
My 3VO's Lockscreen has disappeared. Legit.
When I press the screen lock button it simply doesn't. It turns the screen off, but it doesn't actually lock the phone.. as a consequence now the phone will do random things in my pocket and its annoying as hell.
I've tried a number of things to restore it just short of a full reset. That I'm trying to avoid because I use this phone as my main one and to restore all my setting would suck major ass.
Please someone shed some light on a solution for me?

Have you rooted and frozen some of the HTC APK's? (There's one for the lockscreen, I'd imagine) That's what it sounds like. If not, I'm not exactly sure what you can do aside from a factory reset...

I haven't even touched the whole perma-temp root thing. When we get permanent root then I'll crack this Guy open. But till then.. I'm not interested in it. Besides I actually like the sense 3.0 locksceen.
I seriously hope I dont have to factory wipe this thing. If i tell the phone to use apassword or pattern or pin code to lock up then the screen comes back .. but that's a pain in the ass to always unlock the stupid thing

Decreased touchscreen sensitivty of certain buttons after rooting! Normal?

Hi guys,
I finally installed Windows 7 bootcamp on my Mac, and went away on flashing kernel to XWKDD_insecure.tar, and rooting the S2 with S2 Root app. Everything went smoothly, and I now have TB Pro with a couple of apps frozen.
However, one very noticeable change after I flash and rooted was that my Applications button is very hard to activate. I thought I had imagined it, but when I unlock via Widgetlocker slider, and tap the Applications icon on the bottom right, nothing happens with the normal pressure I am used it. To activate it, I must push down with a little force for a second or two, let go, and it will go to the application folder. Also, I have also notice that when I wake the phone, the unlock widgetlocker slider is slightly unresponsive at first, I must also apply more force, hold it for a second, and slide for the slider to work. Before I rooted (6 hours ago), I can lightly tap the application icon, or light slide the unlock slider, and it would work.
Another weird thing is also buttons on the screen works fine thus far.
Anyone have this rather weird problem? I am slightly regretting rooting the phone, because the applications icon just wouldn't budge despite multiple taps... I've tried battery pulls, etc, but the problem persists, especially right after I unlock the phone.
Any input is much appreciated!
Thank you
Did you found a solution? I have the same problem, but I don't know if it's because rooting? This is really annoying.
Same here after CF-root.
and let me add that the return touch key (below the applications icon) isn't so responsive as before rooting!
I thought I was just imagining but I am "glad" you guys having the same problem.
Looking forward for a solution.
Maybe asking Chainfire ?
Well I just installed a stock rom, same thing.
My 'back' button is very un-responsive as well. it's like I really have to hit the spot for it to react.
Am having the same issue with the back key and i am still stock non rooted

This is certainly not the first time I've heard about such complaints, infact a few friends also had this issue as well they had their phones replaced.

Wakeup lag

Hi there,
I'm just wondering if there's a rom that fixes the wakeup lag on the phone. I do believe it must be software related so it should be possible to fix it. I already tried wakelock, but this really drains the battery.
I also tried a few "jellybean"roms, but the problem still persits. I really love my phone, but I dont understand why everytime I want to use my phone I need to stare at a black screen for a while before it wakes up.
Thanks,
No idea either mate but my phone shows the screen instantly when I hit the home button. Maybe energy saving mode on or some apps causing lag?
You could try to back up everything and then wipe your device.
+1 on the instantly turning on

Really? Got to check on that. Thanks. It really confirms it's not the hardware!

I9300 ON 4.3 Official - Slow, Laggy and Screen Flicker when swiping

Hi guys ive got a Samsung s3 which is on 4.3 official stock rom, however im having some problems. Firstly is the problem of lagging, for example i could be using the browser and when i go back to the home screen there is nothing there and it takes a few seconds for all the icons to load back.
Second problem which is intermittent and usually goes away when i reboot the phone is when swiping through the homescreen i get these weird screen flickers (Not sure if screen flicker is the right word) but basically i can see my other app icons in the background which become enlarged. I have included some picures to better explain. Do you think this is a hardware or software fault and what should i do?
Any helps appreciated, Thanks.

(1) Backup any files photos then factory reset
If problem still there
(2) Flash another stock rom with Odin
If problem still there probably hardware related
I have the same problem. The flicker of the screen I think is touchwizz because when I use another launcher dissappears.
Normally with a reboot I fix it, but it happens again from time to time.

this happens on my s3 after update to 4.3 how to fix this
Up for this thread.
I also got that flickering on TW launchers (even on an S5 themed one). And actually, it's not a flickering, it is a stretched app icon (in the screenshot you atached it is Camera). I observed (at least in my case) that this happens when the RAM usage is above 700-750MB. try a custom ROM (after backing up, recommended) like SmartDroid Simple v7, NxTGen 13.1, ehich both have really good RAM usage (on Smartdroid v7 I got as low as 280, if i remember well. I posted the screenshot in that thread.

what did you do yo remove this weird issue?
I had similar problems after updating from official 4.1.2 to official 4.3 (MJ9 ROM, November 2013). Problems were extremely widespread. I got sick of waiting for Samsung to even acknowledge the problem and eventually moved to NeatROM, and I'm happy to say I haven't looked back. I will probably never return to stock now.

You bumped within a couple of hours? Why?
- Go to Settings > More > Application Manager > Running > Select the app you want end and click "Force Stop" (Please make sure you dont close any important app)
- Hold menu button until you get the recents bar then clear all
- Try "Greenify" and use that to reduce the number of running apps.
- Install a custom-ROM like SmartDroid, it is lightweight sammy ROM and uses less storage and RAM.
