almost bricked my HTC One with cleanrom - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Ok I know im a newbie...but went thru all the steps to root the device successfully
then I had 2.5 TWRP installed...i see the wipes there are two to perform before installing the cleanrom 2.0
so i go to do that..and I know the developer says to do a factory reset...but on 2.5 there is no button anymore to
do this..i looked thru each option..what am i doing wrong..so anyway, i do both wipes then chose the install
and clicked on cleanrom 2.0 ..it went thru a bunch of screens..and after a number of them nothing...so i waited 10
minutes...did a reboot and my device stayed on the opeing brilliant screen ...i could not even get into recovery to redo
the phone..i was ready to bring it back to swap it out as i bought it from costco..and would just play dumb
so I hooked it up to my power in car and that somehow made it turn off,, then i was able to go do a factory reset using
the backup and now phone is working..i'd still like to use clean rom..but kind of gunshy due to what happened...
anyone else care to shed some light...im sure it might have to do with not doing a factory reset...where is that option????
i see a factory reset in the list of options when i press power and vol down???? but i think they want the one in TWRP

Aroma installer may have frozen and didn't finish installing the Rom. Try it again. Make sure you verify the md5 just in case you got a bad download.

well i wouldnt be so sure,
I did an advanced wipe in TW recovery and wiped everything, then tried installing cleanrom 2.0. aroma froze at the first option and I cant get do anything, I cant hard reset. The lights at the bottom just flash. I let the battery die and now tried to get into recovery, just went to HTC screen, same thing. holding down any button just makes the capacitive buttons flash.
someone help out?
Edit: got into recovery with adb, should be good now

First, always check the MD5 checksum for any Rom, kernel, or mod that you intend to flash. It is a well documented issue that Aroma has a tendency to freeze up. Not always, but it does happen. I have flashed many roms, mods, and kernels from both the AT&T section, and the international section, and I have had smooth installs and freezes. If the phone is not responding, then press both the power button and the volume down button and hold them. When the capacitive buttons start flashing, keep holding the power and volumes buttons. Your phone will eventually reboot. When it does, keep holding the volume down button. It will take you into Hboot. If you miss it, power down the phone. Hold the power and volume down button to boot into Hboot. Select recovery and start over. When using Aroma installer use the volume keys and the power button to make your selections. This often helps prevent freezes, but not 100% of the time. It is something we just have to live with for now.

If the ROM were to blame, then everyone that flashed it would be bricked, which is clearly not the case. It is completely irresponsible to create a thread titled "rom x almost bricked my phone" and on top of that, you start your first sentence with, "Ok I know im a newbie". Especially with all the very well known Aroma issues on this phone which is independent of the ROM. OP, your thanks meter will probably stay at zero for a while.

Yeah do not blame cleanrom for something you did wrong. I'm running it right now and it is fantastic and perfect for what I want right now. And it installed without a hitch.

Not the rom. But aroma. Aroma installer is buggy

Bricking is like horseshoes. there is no close. you are bricked or not. A soft-bricking is a different story and the term brick is probably over used there too
As to wiping under TRWP 2.5.0.0, some options have been moved below the Advanced menu.
BTW, Cleanrom 2 is SWEET and worth the effort. Good luck

Uh oh. I think I wiped my girlfriend's phone.

My phone, a Droid X2, has a factory recovery menu which is accessed by power + volume down. I've seen in the Optimus One forums about a recovery by pressing Home + Vol Down + Power. I'd like to get CM7 on her phone since Koodo basically doesn't support the phone, so I thought I'd pop in to recovery, see what options I had, reboot without changing anything.
Android icon, progress bar, reboot.
My "Oh crap" senses are on full alert. I tell myself not to worry, it's probably just.. clearing cache or something. It boots up and says "Welcome to your new phone" and whatnot.
So, I'm quite certain that:
I'm in the doghouse for a loooong time
I'm going to help her re-set up her phone
The recoveries out there work by hijacking the factory reset keys and, not having installed a recovery, I just cleared everything with little to no hope of getting it back.
Confirm/deny?
Confirm.

You should have read first.
Because it need to be root and install clockworkmod recovery.. read the roll up sticky at dev section.

I did this once too. Unfortunately the original recovery just does factory reset.
I thought I had read such things. I've poked through most of the FAQs and whatnot and they occasionally reference a recovery with no mention of needing a custom recovery installed first. It just sounded like "Yeah, to get to recovery, press this." and I thought "Okay, easy enough"
I suppose it was a bit my fault assuming there was a factory recovery since my X2 has one. I guess I'll go upstairs and face the music.
Hhaha. Lol
Root the phone .
Go to market install rom manager. Flash clockworkmod choose optimus one(you don't want to choose diff it can brick your phone)
After that download any custom rom.

I tried making a backup with the LG 3G Mobile Download Program. I saw the phone click in to a yellow background with the words "Emergency mode!"
My heart leaped in to my throat and I am finished messing around with this thing. I'd feel better if it was easier to SBF back to stock like my X2 can.
Edit: She wanted me to point out that she didn't bite my head off about it and that SOME girlfriends are nice about such things.
dude thats pretty fail.
are you saying now your stuck in emergency mode ? you should be able to get out of that using these instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314
however when i did this i was stuck in boot loop and entered emergency mode myself. since your in emergency mode already, it may be slightly different, but give it a crack. you need to download the original firmware as well. i dont have the link.

Optimus V, cannot force into recovery mode

Before I get flamed or eaten up by people who I have so inconvenienced their day by creating a question that has been asked before, I have searched for this.
On the site, and on Google itself for a solution to my problem. So please bare with me and help me out, if you can.
I own an Optimus V. The phone is rooted, but it has no custom ROM installed onto it at all. I had the CM ROM manager, but that was it.
I wanted to factory reset my phone because I was having texting issues, so first thought to mind, lemme just go ahead and reset it. #stupid
Now, the LG logo flashes, fades away and then I am stuck at a black screen (the LCD is still on) and it doesn't go away. I have tried holding home button + volume down + lock button, and home button + volume up + lock button, and even when I press the camera button it occasionally turns on and off. All of the threads here about this issue are all from phones that had custom ROMs flashed onto them, and are all about getting the recovery onto the SD card and installing your ROM off the card.
I don't want that. I just want my phone to turn on again after its reset...
Please help
Also, some information I may have been missing:
The phone is rooted with Gingerbreak 1.2.
If this means anything, I received a replacement phone after September first due to a past issue, so I'm not sure if it has the newer screen or not. Also, I might have put recovery from Clockwork Mod. I'm not sure though, but as stated before, I have not installed any custom ROMs on to this phone.
I factory reset this phone a few months ago while rooted with the same options (although I didn't have the CM ROM manager...).
In other words, as far as I know, I probably did put recovery from Clockwork Mod. I really don't want to go out and buy a new phone
If your phone is just rooted and you do a factory reset it shouldn't hurt the phone at all, If your phone is rooted and have clock work mod installed and did a factory reset it shouldn't hurt the phone at all, when you do a factory reset to a phone all it is doing is erasing info, apps, contacts etc...its not deleting or restoring system files. Now you say that you did a factory reset and now there's a black screen and you can not go into clock work mod (cwm)? did you have cwm flashed from rom manager? I do not understand what you mean "I had the CM ROM manager, but that was it" Do you mean you had clock work mod or just rom manger? Sounds to me like you didn't have clock work mod on your phone at all, when you root your phone flash clock work mod, it can save alot of headaches, if you had cwm you could of just flashed a new custom rom. If you have a warranty for that phone just take it back and tell them it doesn't work and your having problems. I have taken my phone back a couple times at radio shack and it was soft brick and they didn't even notice. Sounds to me like its just a faulty phone that you bought (its normal it happens) nothing that you did at all, hope this helps

First of all: How did you "factory reset" your phone? And sorry to ask, but how can it be that you do not know if you have custom recovery or not? As far as I know the only way to factory reset the phone is to enter the custom recovery and choose the corresponding option, or to start the stock LG recovery which would do this automatically. So how can you not know after having reset which recovery did it?
Anyway, since you are stuck now, there seems no other possibility than unbricking your phone using kdz (please search in the sticky section) or getting it to service.
I assume he ment Factory reset from the options in the phone...settings/privacy/factory reset

O.k. ... in my (german) P500 this option - which I was not aware of until now - would have to be translated to "reset memory/storage", but not "factory reset" which I only knew from custom recovery. Anyway, in my opinion this should not be capable of bricking a device, because all it should do is delete the /data partition.
And even more it should under no circumstances be capable of corrupting the recovery partition... therefore I can only repeat my previous suggestions (assuming that accessing recovery is not working):
1) Try unbricking using kdz; or
2) Go to LG service.
Considering the description of the thread starter I would believe that the hardware is defective.
One other thing to the thread starter: What do you mean by "lock" button? The power button? The combo for accessing recovery is holding home+vol- and then pressing power until recovery starts. And what do you mean by "camera" button??? There is no such button on my P500 at least... And what does it mean when you say the device starts when pressing this "camera" button?
Mine says factory data reset, that's what I'm trying to understand why and how it bricked

[Q] Is my phone hosed?

I am on Cyanogen Mod 7 with my Vibrant and was attempting last night to do a factory data reset on my phone through the menu screen. The phone didn't seem to like me attempting to do that and now every time I boot, no matter which button combination I try I can never get past the black Samsung Vibrant boot-up splash screen.
Is there anything I can do to reset my phone somehow? I've searched the forums and google and can't find anyone with quite my same problem.
Thanks for any help that can be offered,
Brian
Hi Brian,
Since you factory reset the phone, then you don't care about your data at this point? If that is the case, then just boot back into recovery with the appropriate key combos and reflash CM7. You might have to do it twice and don't forget to wipe while you are in there.
See here for Key Combos and another user's CM issue.
I have tried both methods (Froyo and Gingerbread bootloaders) and neither return me back into recovery. If I try the gingerbread method I just reset back to the Samsung screen every 10 seconds or so. If I try the Froyo method, nothing actually happens, it just stays there at the Samung Screen and does nothing.
You are correct in that I don't care about my data at this point.
Thanks,
Brian
Could always try Odin.
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

Then reinstall CM from scratch. Gotta go for now but I'll check in later on.
Got it up and running late last night. Thanks so much for your help. Was never quite sure what ODIN was but now that I see how it works, it makes sense that it's the fallback plan for people that have done dumb things to their phone like I did.
Thanks again,
Brian

HTC Droid DNA Screw Up -Need help-

So, like everyone else, I rooted my phone and decided I dont need all this bloatware and other nonsense system apps.
I was foolish enough not to back up things I were removing, and nothing SEEMED important, but all of the sudden my "Htc dialer": Has stopped working.
My phone will turn on, but I cant turn it off, it just reboots without actually turning the phone off when I hold the power down.
I cant get it into recovery mode ( power vol up) and when it turns on, it goes to the default lock screen the phone comes with, and then I CANT see my home screen at all. The home button doesnt work either.
I cant get to my apps, I have to use my girlfriends DNA to beam whatever app im trying to get to onto my phone.
I can go to settings, but cant factory reset.
I tried killing the battery to get power it off, but then cant get to recovery screen there either.
I'm not sure if anyone has the system apps apk's just laying around so I can attempt to repair my phone, ( my girlfriend wont let me root her phone, but thatll be the next step if no one can help) but any insight as to what I can do would be appreciated.
Try fastboot flashing recovery and then dirty flashing the rom you were on before you started deleting things. This may help you keep your rom setup. If this doesn't work then go to the moonshine thread run the ruu and start from scratch.

Honestly I don't know where to begin with your post. Its all over the place. The phone turns off by holding the power button for 10 seconds and waiting for the capacitive buttons to stop flashing. If your phone turns on its really not possible for this NOT to work. Yes it will reboot this is normal, though once the lights stop blinking you can quickly hold volume down and power to access boot loader and power down fully from there. Recovery is accessed from bootloader too assuming you have one installed. A lot can be done from both bootloader and recovery to solve problems so finding out if you can access them is the first step. I don't understand your statement about the default lock screen showing and you can't see your home screen. Which ROM is it? Which lock screen are you referring to? Why can't you simply unlock the phone? What is stopping you from doing that? Your home button doesn't work and you can't get to your apps...meaning? You can't access the app drawer? I thought you couldn't unlock the device there is conflicting info there. I don't see how you are beaming tasks one at a time through this painful process but I would just avoid that until you've fixed the problem. You can access settings but no factory reset, why? What can you do from settings? And finally you are asking for some apk's "just lying around".....dude your issues seem severe, obviously you are inhibited from using your phone right now but someone giving you some apps won't solve your problem in fact it would probably make it worse. Get into recovery perform a full wipe and flash a different ROM. Also don't mess with deleting apps if your not sure it might screw up your system.

Alright let me try to be a little more descriptive.
So as for the lock screen, I can unlock the screen, but then I see a black screen, no home page/icons. I cant get into the app drawer, when i try to factory reset, it says "rebooting" for a few seconds, screen turns off, right back on to lock screen, sim card says preparing, and then i'm back to where i was, doesnt actually reset. As for the beaming, I can say, open system app remover or file viewer on my girlfriends phone, then beam it, and my phone will open the corresponding app. This is the only way I can get apps to open, since I can't get to drawer or go to home screen.
When I hold down the power button down, the buttons flash, I get a message saying " continue to hold for 3 seconds" it counts down to 1, and then nothing. I can hold it til my arm falls off, nothing at all happens when it hits 1, I also can't power the phone down. If i try to, the screen goes black, capactive buttons turn white, back to lock screen and phone does " preparing sim" and the network/wifi reconnect as if it was just rebooted.
I have the default rom the phone came with, I believe I have a bootloader, I used a guide from this site to perform my root. The folder I have contains distiller, dnashellroot.apk, boot_secure, busybox, su and superuser.apk

The weird part is, other then not being able to turn it off/get into drawer/see home screen, everything else works. If i get a text, i can drag down and select it and it opens. If i open gmail on my GF's phone and beam it, will open Gmail and function 100%. Same goes for any app we both have that I beam.
I just used my rooting method to force bootloader up, which worked, but when i hit recovery, im looking at a picture of a phone laying down with a orange triangle/exclamation point in the center of it.

Ok - fact of the matter is that you might want to try getting into recovery via the bootloader (vol down + power from off). If you can access the recovery module from there, you are then able to click advanced (using TWRP) then click sideload. You will then need to use ADB to sideload a new ROM onto the phone, then install via TWRP. Hopefully you might even still have the old .zip for the current ROM that you're using and just really need to get to recovery.

Well if you just got TWRP installed via fastboot or goo manager you should be pretty well set. Download a new ROM, reboot into recovery and install. I would suggest wiping the davik and cache - possibly even the system just to give you a fresh start.

Absolutely! I first started out on XDA when I got my first android phone; MyTouch 3g (HTC Magic). I then took my tinkering to full fledged modding where I was charging to overclock, root and unlock phones. It used to be fairly profitable, now there's one click steps for everything. Glad you were able to figure it out instead of having to take it to someone! Good work!

Starting to really hate EVOs, 2 Phones Bricked today

This started when my phone was acting out on Viper 4.0 rom and I figured I'd wipe it and start fresh, wiped the phone & ROM no longer booted, went to the forum to see if there is anything new to tryout & found dirty unicorn so I thought hey that's different (for me) let's give it a shot. Long story short the phone never came back until I relocked & used a factory RUU and it worked but phone was now locked & back to stock. Phone is S-Off by the way.
Today was a new day and I was determined to either get a new rom on my phone or go back to Viper 4.0, unlocked hboot & rooted the phone, installed the newest TWRP 2.8.01 and decided ok everything looks good let's see what happens, Dirty Unicorn requires that you copy ROM to internal storage then flash and this is where the first problem occurred; I couldn't mount internal storage so I thought meh I'll just boot the factory rom & connect as USB storage so I did that, back into recovery and somehow internal storage is not in either file manager or could I get to it from the install screen. I gave up & decided to go ahead & flash from Micro-SD which didn't work, tried to wipe & fail, tried to fix permissions and fail, every time I reboot it asked to reinstall supersu so I tried to flash the most recent zip I had and sure enough fail finally one of my zips worked and I hit reboot, that was the end of my phone.....
Right now - phone is completely blank, power does nothing, power+vol down does nothing, power+vol down+vol up does nothing. When I plug the phone into PC it shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD RUU doesn't work and fastboot commands return nothing.
ummm what do I do?
oh & the second phone was a friend's phone that he gave up on gave to me to fix for him, of course that's bricked too but I have a feeling it'll come back maybe after the battery dies, haven't tried yet. But I need to get my own phone working so I can be back in business.
Whatever recommendations are welcome
Can't wait to go to Samsung lol this or something similar happens every time I try to switch or upgrade rom.

All of the things you mentioned are user error and have nothing to do with HTC or the phone itself. Now as far as an answer goes to try to get your phone working again, have you tried holding power for 60 seconds? MOD Edit: Unnecessary.

Yes of course I tried, the phone has been absolutely unresponsive. No amount of button holding is going to fix QHSUSB_DLOAD
Correct me if I'm wrong but http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948485 is the only known solution for QHSUSB_DLOAD due to firmware issue (I'm pretty sure this is what happened) or Jtag.
Here's the kicker, the files in that thread are no longer there so as it stands phone's just a Brick.
So for now I'm giving up on it and going samsung.
When I have the energy I may try working on the second one I have which turns out wasn't bricked instead the power button is unusable 90% of the time, but for now that's going to be left out of commission. Ultimately I need a backup because sprint techs seem to only operate on a 3 day basis when it comes to physical repairs therefore I plan to revive the second phone just to keep it as plan-b.
May all be user error but frankly what takes me minutes with a samsung seems to take days on the past couple of HTC phones I've had, so the ranting aspect of my post is merely in these regards and that only and out of frustration, this sucks because I'd take HTC build quality over samsung any day. I've been an HTC faithful since their first windows phone (5 years ago or so).
I know I have to fix the power button on the second phone but have any idea why it fails halfway through a factory RUU?
that's where I left off with it, it's S-On Unlocked running TWRP 2.8.0.1 I was trying to return it to full stock so I can have a go with facepalm S-Off procedure.
Did you relock the bootloader prior to attempting to run the RUU?

out of 3 different RUUs I donwloaded only one worked, bootloader was relocked, ran RUU, Error 132 "Signature Error"
the one that did work the installer said finished, phone reboots but goes right back to bootloader where it says "Relocked" & "Security Warning" won't do anything else.
