"HTC in Disarray" - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Anyone read the article on the Verge about HTC? I personally a little concerned for the company, but I'm sure things can get better! I love my HTC One.

Yes really disturbing news and it seems Android=Samsung getting reality sadly. :banghead:

Yeah it is sad to see, but Samsung is a monster when it comes to marketing budgets they had a slim chance to compete. I hope they pull through and continue pushing samsung and other Android devices to their limits. I have high hopes for this company
I also worry that articles like this will only hurt... people who are on the fence will read that and go with Samsung...

Personally I think they are going in the right direction getting rid of dead weight and poor performers.

I don't see the company going down. I believe they will do fine in the long run, they're just having a bit of a rough spot.

The HTC One is selling well. From here on out they should be fine.
If not Samsung will probably buy them out and HTC can design the phone while Samsung focuses on the guts.

At least they aren't fully invested in Windows phone (to ruin them even more) like some other great phone company we all know

Agreed. I've always had good experiences with call and signal quality with Nokia, from the 6820 and other TDMA phones back in the late 90s and early 00s to the Symbian-based stuff from a while back. If they put some quality Android-based phones together and offered them with a decent custom interface (like Sense) and unlocked, I think they'd make a pretty strong showing.

Ha, I have its big brother the Nokia 6800. That's not a typo, I still have it right here on my desk
I couldn't help but thinking that I have this power to kill phone manufacturers.
My first cell phone back in the mid 90s was the Siemens S3+ and then briefly the S4 (I bet not a lot of people here even know that Siemens used to make cell phones).
After that, I had a couple of Ericsson phones, the GH 337 and the GF 788 (you know how that story ends, they were swallowed by Sony, and then dumped).
Right after that, I became a huge Nokia + Symbian fanboy, the 6800, 6620, N80, E51, E63, E75 (and look at what happened to Nokia and Symbian).
Then three years ago I bought a Dell Streak (the first android phone with 5" screen that nobody really knows about. the following year, Dell stopped making phones).
Finally last week I got myself an HTC One. Look out HTC!!

I mostly agree with your statement, but I believe it will take more than one flagship to get them turned around and charging towards the front. Maybe after 1 or 2 more flagship they will really be doing well. I just can't see one phone having enough time to turn an entire company around. Especially after they bombed out hard with the HTC First. That was a huge mistake for them to try and even sell that phone.

It means that there will be a vanilla htc one or one like device and because of that the devs will (hopefully) be able to make aosp/aokp roms with very few to no bugs at all. Basically it's makes the job easier for the devs and the experience better for us.

Ever since I switched to Android, all I had were Samsungs...this is my first HTC android device and Im loving it so far. So to read articles about HTC and the tough times they're having is saddening. Samsung is the Apple of androids...the galaxy line is well known which is both bad and good. I really hope the HTC One can and will save this company because we need beautiful phones in the variety of androids. I like having choices!

Worried about my htc amaze 4g

I'm hearing everywhere that the phone will be obsolete in a couple of months. I'm scared I might get out dated when I just bought this phone like 1 months ago. Should I get rid of it and get a sgs2 while I still can or what should I do?
Thank you for reading this.

Even if HTC were to discontinue the phone today it's still a 1.5ghz dual core 4G phone. The SGS2 is pretty much identical in specs. If the phones are so similar and the Amaze is no longer in production but the SGS2 is, then is the Amze "obsolete?" Your definition of obsolete must be different than mine.

im sorry, i used a poor choice of words. i was in a hurry when i wrote this. By obsolete i meant that htc will not be supporting us and will stop sellin the phone.
With the second generation dual core and first generation quad cores on the horizon. Not to mention the big hardware specification push, it is/will be soon obsolete. Does that make it irrelevant, no.. Hell computers are obsolete before you buy them for the most part. Just live with and enjoy your device...

I agree. You have a two year contract when you purchase a phone with a discount. Who here thinks that T-Mobile shouldn't start offering new phones before your two year contract expires? Seriously! The phone has been out for what... three, four months now? I would say that's pretty good actually. Don't worry about the phone itself though. You still have a 1 year warranty which will still be honored should you require service. It's still a powerhouse of a phone and we're expecting an update here very soon. So... what's the problem? You guys are acting like it's the damn G1.
You know to be honest I was expecting a better phone to come out about a month after ours did. I'm surprised that it didn't. But I'm saying this to people that are suprised that in this day and technological age your phone is old and outdated before you can manage to buy accessories for it. Just look at it this way... iphone fans are constantly being screwed by Apple and their yearly releases! You wait in line overnight to buy the new iphone 4GS or whatever and nine months later Apple teases you with the new iphone 4GS2 for a super low price of $600 because you're still on contract. Else they can wait for another year for the release of the iphone 5 or whatever. It's a sales gimmick and that's all there is to it. Yet you guys are surpised to see this with HTC? Naive I think.
Only thing you need to worry about is awful Dev support.
Im sorry I like XB and the others but this phone has just about zero Rom selection compared to SGS2 and other phones. Nothing even close to a workable ICS build.
The phone itself is fantastic mostly due to the camera , HW isnt what you should be worried about.

It might be "just a phone" but I paid a large chunk of cash for my phone and I don't like getting screwed over by Google.......not to mention Apple's bait & switch marketing.
Smartphones "smart" once you find out your phone will be semi-obsolete as is the case here with Google trying to tell software & hardware developers what to do.
stefnuts
All of this is true but don't you all feel that the htc amaze is a bad phone? You can't have a case because you lose WiFi signal, you have to put electrical tape on the back of the phone to prevent the flash from messing up your pictures at night, the haptic key light bleeds in the screen, the faceplate on the back creaks really loud when putting pressure. I did not pay over 600 for a phone to have so many problems.

T-mo news did post an article stating that the amaze 4g is reaching "end-of-life" and will he discontinued soon. This may lower our chance of getting more dev support, but let's be thankful for who we do have which is some great developers like xboarder, faux, and now nrg... Just have patience, soom good stuff is going to be coming to us in the near future, we just need to wait. No one has a perfectly running ICS with no bugs we arent far behind guys we will have what we want soon

I do not see why it is such a big deal they won't be producing htc amaze anymore(if that is true). anyway even the htc ville we are expecting to come out in march or the samsung bliss, they have nothing special, same dual core cpu, same speed + the camera that the amaze has is one of the best in the market. So I find all this "worried about my amaze" a little too exaggerated. and yes it is just a phone, if you are concerned just go sell it back and buy a new one when it comes out. hope your worries about the htc amaze do not keep you from living a normal life...extra stress is never good
I love my Amaze. I knew about the "flaws" before I bought it. To my amazement, it's better than I thought and read about. I fortunately do not have the creaking back cover(there's a fix), Wi-Fi range is awesome even with a case, GPS locks in seconds even inside the house, battery life last all day, awesome ROMs available (thank you devs, you know who you are, lol) the list goes on. haha, i'm still a little sore about that damn instinct as well. I couldn't wait to get rid of that pos and swore never a samsung again. But, then the nexus s came to sprint and I thought it would be different because it was a reference device, but the radios were complete garbage. That is pretty much why I pulled the trigger on the evo and snubbed the sIII. It does look nice and I'm sure most of them wont catch fire, but I just couldn't buy another samsung.

We reactivated mine for my 6 year old sister for emergencies only. I tried playing with it...had to like stab the screen to get it to work at all. Dumbphone is smartphone clothing.
All the Samsucky fan boys have already up in arms w Endgaget because of the review and now this ! Oh boy some people must have bursted into flames at home.
After owning a Samsung Epix for about 3 months, and subsequently smashing it with a sledge hammer out of rage, I will NEVER buy another Samsuck device again.
The OG Epic ruined it for me. First and last samsung device unless they pull out a miracle piece of hardware that HTC doesn't. Same with LG, I'll never buy their garbage again after my wife went through 6 Optimus S's until we finally gave up, I bought the LTE and gave her my Photon.

Anyone else tempted to jump ship to the HTC One?

Just curious on what other LGOG users think of the HTC One announced today? I had the international HTC One X and really liked the phone, the camera was leaps and bounds better than the one on the LGOG. The LGOG camera, IMHO, is just ok.
The reason I left the One X for the LGOG was because AT&T lit up LTE in my area just as the LGOG was launched. I didn't hear great things about the One X+ so I went for the LGOG.

Me too. At least the development was fantastic though.
Nope. I came from the One X (AT&T variant) and while the camera was top notch, the locked bootloader, 2.20 root fiasco and a pretty locked down device isn't worth it. It was also my first HTC device and after experiencing Sense firsthand they can take that crap and shove it. It kills the device and is about as laggy and bad as Motoblur in it's heyday.
Now having vented about it I will say this, the device is still within the family AND that dev community here on XDA is topnotch and first rate. Very helpful to noobs and very, very good at getting the device blazing fast and customized.
HTC is just not for me as far as manufacturers go and I won't ever be owning another one unless it's free.
Man what are we going to buy? I got a moto one time. Everybody swore they would not buy another. So I got a sammy. Burned again. So i thought ok its because I'm not buying flagships. So I got the vivid practically on release day. Worst decision ever. Now I got this phone. Which I happen to love. U know every phone I own eventually got Aosp. I think it just does not happen fast enough for some people.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
Not at all. HTC makes good devices, but there's no guarantee that you will be able to unlock the bootloader, for OS upgrades (I never count on AT&T providing support for the devices that they sell). In addition, the LGOG more than meets my needs for the foreseeable future. Why spend money if I don't see it as a meaningful upgrade.

This is what I do, except I don't always switch between VZW and AT&T. Most of the time I can buy a phone outright keep it for 6 months sell it and buy a new one. It's amazing the deals you can get on eBay and Craigslist. If you do it right, you are out of pocket $200 to $300 a year which is what everyone pays to get a phone on a 2 year contract.
Posssibly. It seems a neat phone, but I will wait for the reviews. I'm getting more and more hiccups and glitches in my OG, and I believe at least 2 are hardware. I hate HTC, but I like metal phones and stereo sound. We'll see.

I came from HTC evo 3d , rooting , unlocking were fairly easy, it was getting the s-off that was a pain! I don't know if anyone had the "wire trick" fun lol. But after all that I had 4.2 cm10 and man that device screamed!
Now , I have never owned a lg but besides the slow go on development, which is just because the phone is so new and waiting for true jb release to att . I love this phone! Took me a while to get over my flashaholic nature , and with aosp to come out any day I'm excited!
The camera is sketchy, but if your trying to take professional photos, get a real camera in my opinion. Otherwise, I don't think I'll ever look back at HTC ,
Its not about what you know , but who you know.

Otherwise, I love what I've made my One X+ capable of, however, out of the box, the only thing I would warn a perspective buyer about is the somewhat dreadful battery life.
Tegra 3 is a hog is you don't underclock\ undervolt\ bring cores offline.

I would go with the S3. Besides nice hardware there's nothing spectacular about the X+. Sense is worse than TW actually, and on the X+ you're stuck with it.

[Q] DNA screen cracked...what new phone should be my replacement?

Last night I dropped my phone out on the driveway, and the screen is now in a million pieces (well, not literally). Unfortunately I think it might be best just to buy a few phone full retail (which makes me want to vomit). Anyway, I'm stuck on deciding between the GS4, HTC One, and the Lumia 928. So, I thought i would ask this fine community for their 2 cents. Any help with your perspective(s) would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

HTC one isn't out on Verizon yet but I'd wait for that if I were you. Windows phone lacks customization for me personally and the gs4 is a gs3 only slightly better which is still not my cup of tea.

The HTC One is, in a lot of ways, what I wish my DNA was. You'll just have to wait a while for it... https://twitter.com/VZWnews/status/341592724161560578
The S4 is a very nice phone (as was the S3), it will have a different feel, but once you're past the learning curve it is great. The S4 Rugged might also be a decent option, especially if there is a chance you might break your phone http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/?p=24447
The iPhone 5 is a great phone with a very different form factor and user experience (and if you're considering WPhone I would just go iPhone instead). Not good or bad, just different. I have tons of friends that love them, and I recommend them to lots of people.
If I were shopping it would come down to my subscription plan:
Grandfathered unlimited data - Buy the HTC One
Tiered Data - Buy the S4
