LCD Fix ? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hi guys I have done something really bad , just purchased my One a week ago and everything was fine until I had to fly to Cancun mexico for a performance ( I'm a dj for an urban singer ) the problem is that I dropped my phone and broke the LCD , is there anyway to replace it ? This phone is built in a unibody style so I really doubt it but just wanted to make sure.
any help?

I believe your only good option would be to send it into HTC for repair. I remember reading a thread about someone already cracking the screen and it was around $200 or so for repair..
Assuming you do not have insurance on it?

I also just recently dropped mine and since I didn't purchase it thru AT&T (I bought it locally through an indivdual) my AT&T Insurance won't cover it. Since iFixit gave this phone a repair-ability rating of 1 out of 10 - the One is damn near impossible to repair. So, I called HTC and asked for an estimate to repair the cracked LCD. They quoted me a cost of 'up to $180' without looking at it. I sent it in to them, they received it today and now I'm waiting for them to call me with an actual quote. I will post here with my findings if anyone cares to know.

Ok, so HTC quoted me $180.00 to repair the broken LCD. Not too bad, in my opinion. Better than selling a broken device and losing hundreds.

left speaker died

hi all, few weeks back my hp tp left speaker died thinking it might be rom related i flashed but to no luck tried searching for spares but cant find any i found a disassembly guide in ifixit but need a new speaker. have anyone experienced the same problem?
if u bought it during the fire sale u have about a week till (8/20) the one year warranty expires.
http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/touchpad/touchpad/wifi/supportservices/page_en.html
go to palm support and CHAT with them. do not call cuz that cost money.
once u get an RMA they will send a box and take care of Shipping.
then go here to wipe and remove android
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426244
once wiped send it in and your speaker will be fixed, it will take about a week.
Should I take a chance and send my TP in? My charging port is loose but it charges still. Do they send you another refurbished TP or the same one repaired? I have until the 24th.

they will not send ua refurb, they will fix yours and give it back to you. sent it in a month ago for a bad charging port, brand new connector when i got it back. same TP tho.
if u got lucky enough to get a refurb then it likely have abetter battery than u have today. but thats super unlikely if they can just fix it. there is NO risk

Don't wait, it isn't going to get better. Report it now and arrange for it to be repaired while the connecter is still sort of working and you can remove Android.
I had the same problem and was only just able to remove Android before it totally died. I have it back now with a new part fitted and its working fine.
I cant really do that as I got mine from amazon and I'm not located in us shipping it back to usa is not practical for me if only replacement parts are available then I can diy

I'm pretty sure they have service centers internationally... Imo it's worth chatting them up while it's still under warranty and seeing if they can work something out for your situation.

So I purchase a product from them that does not meet their own standards? Then I have to pay to ship it back to them, and then wait 2 weeks for the device I just purchased. Yikes!
Yeah that is not right...I argued the best they could do is pay shipping back..time's like this is when I wish I had Att so I could go right to the store...( have stright talk reason why I bought it online ) If I do send it back I will have no phone for 2 week's wish they would do what apple doe's and send a new phone first but they won't.

Had a dead pixel on my One I picked up yesterday and I went back in and exchanged it. I can live with the screen gap but I'll be damned if I have to stare at a dead pixel for 2 years. Once you know it's there, it's all you can think about.
I got a replacement yesterday. It had a dead pixel. Just a single one but it drove me crazy and my eyes would constantly gravitate to it. Fought with them all morning because they told me to exchange it in a store, no stores are carrying the 64gb in inventory so they said they would send me a return label and once they get this device send me another. I called back multiple times and fought with multiple people. Eventually I got a supervisor that made it so they send me the replacement first, then I send back this one. It took a lot of fighting and a lot of calls but they eventually did it. The supervisor actually had to get approval from her supervisor. It was a hellish morning and I'm glad I finally got it sorted. Already got an email about the order for the replacement so that's a good sign. Man their customer service has taken a nosedive. It never used to be this difficult to do an exchange. When the last rep answered "thank you for calling att where pur customers are the #1 priority I couldn't help to laugh and say 'that's not true'"

This was through AT&T. If you are an AT&T customer, I would check to see if there is a warranty center in your area. They will usually make an exchange on the spot. Otherwise, call AT&T and they will send out a replacement right away and you just mail in your defective phone when you receive the new one.
I bought my phone used, does the 1 year manufacture warranty carry over to me, even though I'm not the original owner?
What are you using to find dead pixels with, they are quite small. I know certain screens/colors will reveal them nicely.
I had one dead pixel on my first HTC one it also had the speaker grill cut incorrectly. I decided to do a exchange for the same one and this one is perfect no issues. To check for dead pixels use this app it's great also shows ghosting ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ujacha.deadpixel&hl=en). I love this phone btw hope this helps anyone.

So squaretrade vs AT&T

Ok looking to get insurance...I always had Att but thinking of trying squaretrade...I would do the monthly 6.99 plan do they cost the same...only thing I noticed is squaretrade is 99 deductible vs Att 199...but squaretrade doesn't cover lost or stolen phones...never had to make any claims with either...but curious if one is better then the other...I'm getting spooked on all these unexplained camera lenses cracking on some ones....

I've never used insurance. But after I had my first dropped broken screen on my n4 I decided I'd get insurance. The coverage for lost and stolen phones is what did it for me. And the fact it is on my bill makes it easier to keep up with payment. My .02

I never used to have any insurance before we had our son , but now that my son is 2 years old i always go for an insurance, since i love to keep my phone naked and squaretrade is my #1 choice .
My son broke my ipad 4 screen within 5 days they got it fixed for no charge ( since ipad insurance had 0 deductible ) . i got squaretrade for the HTC One they are 125$ for 2 years with 99$ deductible way cheaper than AT&T and the best part is if they cant fix the phone for whatever reason they pay you 700$ and you can buy whatever phone is latest at the point and still save some money.
there are 30% squaretrade coupons floating around all the time , in fact i posted 3 coupons yesterday on there check it out
with 30% (30$ max) off it comes down to 95 + tax

My experience with squaretrade is not so great. I had insurance on my original moto droid. one day it stopped working so i initiated a claim with squaretrade. they say they will fix it or pay you...by fix it they mean they will send you a refurb. after waiting a week or two, they sent me a moto droid (not mine) that was functional but beat up (mine was not). when i called to complain, they insisted that it was my same phone and they had fixed it. they agreed to exchange it and i got another refurb in slightly better condition.
in the end, i got a working phone, i just wish they were more upfront about sending refurbished items.

I don't have any case or protector on my HTC one at all, and I just notice it there is a scratch on the camera lens. Not sure if it affect the image quality, but the camera lens seem so fragile on the One, so it may be a good idea after all.
i cancelled my AT&T insurance and went with ensquared. its $99.99 upfront for 2 years of coverage and a $75 deductible. it covers pretty much everything:
General Product Coverage Components
Accidental Damage Yes
Liquid Spill Yes
Power Surge Yes
Theft Yes
Lost Device Yes
Flood Yes
Vandalism Yes
Fire Yes
Misuse and Abuse No
Loss of Data No
Extended Warranty Coverage Yes
Standard Battery Yes

That's how it is with every insurance claim even the one AT&T uses. Sometimes you get a refurbished item sometimes you get a new one its all luck of the draw.
I personally decided to go with SquareTrade because for $95 for 2 years I thought it was a good deal and the deductible is only $100. Also SquareTrade is fully transferable and that will increase my resale value if I ever decide to sell the phone.

Any warranty options on a used One?

Hello xda. A few weeks ago I sold my S3 for $200 and purchased a used silver AT&T HTC one for $450 from an electronics reseller here in OKC, Cdr electronics. I'm outside of my upgrade window and really wanted the One so i figured this was the best and least expensive route. The phone was in almost mint condition. Not a single flaw except the common gap on the speaker grills. I didn't get any packaging or accessories, just the phone itself.
Now about 3 weeks later I've noticed dust and lint under the glass about half an inch in from the volume rocker and it's really starting to bug me. Obviously it's a hardware defect, but I don't have the original receipt, only mine from the reseller. Is their anything i can do? I can return it for a full refund in the next week but I'm curious if there is any warranty at all i can utilize. Would AT&T do anything for me? HTC? Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!
Sent from my HTC One
Since you didn't get the phone from AT&T, I doubt they will give you anything on warranty. HTC warrants the phone for one year from purchase or 15 months from manufacture. The serial number of the phone identifies the manufacture date. If you call HTC, I wouldn't tell them any information they don't ask for. Also, if you send it back to HTC, make sure it is in full stock form. No unlocked boot loader and stock Rom. Remove all evidence of tampering with the device or they will deny warranty.

What kind of warranty did the business give you on purchasing it from them? If it's a shop worth their salt, it's at least 30 days. Can you take it up with them? If not, I would call HTC and talk to them about it. Just as dborgo states, don't mention that it was used and you should be fine. One user on here got caught up by volunteering info he shouldn't have and it cost him money for repairs. Simple Yes or No answers with a few vague responses SHOULD get you what you want.

They had even asked where I purchased the phone and I told them off of a third party. I used the online chat. If you don't get the answer you want on the first call/chat just hang up and contact them right back. You will get through to a person who is helpful. Good luck

The official HTC Warranty
I took a picture of the warranty card that came with my One, since HTC's website is quite obtuse and the info was impossible to find. Basically, the HTC warranty goes to the original purchaser and is not transferable to a third party. That isn't to say that they won't work something out with you, but you should also be prepared to pay for the repairs if they find out.

I would guess your best bet is to go through AT&T. They are pretty good about warranties on the devices they sell. If they show your line using a ONE it shouldn't be a problem. If asked where it was purchased just tell them it was a 3rd party wireless retailer. Worst case scenario, I'm sure HTC will fix it for you but more than likely they will charge you at least 100 bucks. At that point you mine as well return it and buy a new one directly from HTC.

Can i exchange or return htc one with purple camera issues

Hi, is anyone know if Tmobile allows us to exchange or return htc one with purple camera problem? By the way I owned this phone since May. Thank You.
Yes, I just got approved for an exchange today due to the camera tint. I've also had mine since May. Just tell them you have a purple tint in lowlight photos. They will troubleshoot with you (wipe camera cache, wipe cache partition, then a full reset) then it's exchange time
By the way, I did all this over the phone, and it should be here tomorrow...

Think they'll honor it if you've dropped your phone and have a dent on a corner? ?

They ask if there is any flaws with the phone, but if it's a hardware issue, it SHOULDN'T matter. But in all honesty, I don't know...
Also, got the replacement and no purple tint!

Was your phone rooted/unlocked?
for people who have returned the phone for the camera tint issue, are you required to have insurance with tmobile to get the replacement, or can they replace it by using the factory warranty. Does anyone know and can confirm this?
Hi all-
In the US at least, I had no problem contacting HTC directly for a repair order. I paid for the shipping to the repair center in Texas, they fixed it, and it was returned at no shipping or repair cost to me. Phone was fully stock, no root or anything. The whole process took about a week. If you go through T-mobile they will probably give you a replacement phone, but it could have the problem also. If you send to HTC they will replace the camera sensor module with a newer one that doesn't have the tint problem.
Also, while your phone is away, T-mobile can give you a loaner phone for a $50 deposit that is refunded when you bring the loaner back. It's a cheap flip phone, but at least you will be able to make and receive calls (and texts).

if im not mistaken i think the HTC One comes with a 1 year limited factory warranty.
i got my phone about 6-7 months ago called up HTC and told them about the purple tint.... put my phone back to stock unrooted and locked the bootloader and s-on'd :< and mailed it to them. cost 12 bucks with $400 insurance "still owe 400 on it so if its lost or what not i can atleast break even" atm im just awaiting the facility in texas to shoot me a email about the repair quotation. i approove it then wait for em to mail my phone back lol

I surely hope so. I wouldn't want to keep paying $20 for a hope that I get a working phone
Of that's the case then I'd just switch to another phone. I really like the HTC one but the camera is killing all my memories.

My replacement came in the mail today. The first thing I noticed was the huge off-set the screen had compared to the rest of the body, you could nearly see the bottom of the volume controls.
The camera had a dead pixel.
The vibrator was extremely weak, and the screen had a yellow tint to it, more so than my One S which had a very warm color tone to it.
I took it to the store and they're sending me another device free of charge. Now I just need to send the replacement back.

Yea I hope the replacement is better. If not I'm going to be upset and complain a lot.
I went throught something like this if my LG g2x . That phone has so many problems. And tmobile told me they couldn't exchange it because LG Saud it wouldn't fix the problem. So I ended up selling it and getting a new phone.
I had the same issue, but I have the Jump program thing which includes insurance. I went into a T-mobile store and said hey, I want a new phone and they said sure, no problem and overnighted me a new one for $5. I just have to send the old one back. I had no problems with it being rooted or unlocked.

Yup, same thing here. Just call, or go in and ask to send another one. Maybe we'll both get lucky on the next one

I'm pretty sure it's a third party company that refurbs them. They did a pretty awful job on the repair tbh... Glue left on the sides, and completely mis-aligned the screen.
If anything, after a few replacements, I'll see if I can't get them to just give me a new phone...

Well my other replacment is on its way.
I called in after and talked with someone. They said there just going to trouble shot it and will see what happens basiclly.
All i know is if i get another phone and it has the same problem then im probably going to switch to a note 3.
I call and talked to HTC and they said they could fix my phone but i would have to send it in and i have no other phone and dont wanna buy another phone while i wait for them to fix it.
Plus im starting to get scared now. My phone has the purple tint really bad,
The replacement has a yellow screen. I thought it didnt have purple tint but left it on the camera on the bed for a few minutes, and bam purple tint comes rolling in.
Not as bad as my phone but whos to say it wont get worse.
Also they wavie the fee this time, but they also didnt tell me to send back this phone so idk what to do with that.
I guess im just going to wait a week and see if the new replacement has the same tint. If so ill just call and try to get a different phone but i have a feeling they wont let me switch to a note3.
