Keyboard ASOP 4.2.2/4.3/4.4 - updated Oct.20.2014
I was about to start a new thread on Google (ASOP) keyboard(s) but since Rotary Parts has already done that I'll post it all here.
There seems to be much confusion around, about what Google (AOSP) keyboards are and why they are different - I'm not going to go into details here but they are mostly just different versions ported from different Google devices. Here are all 5 different ones (find attached the respective files):
1. 4.2.2 AOSP with WHITE second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
2. 4.2.2 AOSP with GREY second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
3. Google 4.2 no second row of characters (zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - download here
4. Google 4.2 no second row of characters (apk, installs as any other user's app) - download here
5. 4.3 AOSP with BLUE second row of characters (recommended - zip file, flashable, installs as system app) - extracted from Slim ROM - download here
Note:
1. All come with built-in swipe gestures.
2. Most themes around install/apply color themes on 3 and 4, Furthermore, most will replace your original apk when themed, so if you have initially installed either 1 or 2, a theme will either replace it for a themed 3/4 or nothing at all will happen!!!!!)
3. Applying themes (generally speaking) may only work if you have a deodexed ROM.
4. You'll find around some Google keyboards with dedicated numbers row (like Samsung's) or light background, but those are custom modified.
How To: (Regardless of the method you'll need root)
Method 1: flash the included (flashable) zip file from recovery (TWRP or CM)
Method 2 (recommended): copy the necessary files and reboot
2.1. Download one of the attached zip files.
2.2. Extract/save the two files from "system/app" folder and one file from "system/lib" folder, from the zip.
2.3. Go to the system/lib directory on the phone and make a backup of the original "libjni_latinime.so" file by adding ".bak" at the end - it'll look like this: "libjni_latinime.so.bak"
2.4. Copy the two files from system/app, (extracted in step#3) to your phone in /system/app and the one file from system/lib, to your phone in /system/lib.
2.5. Set the permissions on all the copied files to 644 (rw-r--r--). You may soft brick your phone if you skip this!!!
2.6. Reboot and enjoy.
I couldn't find a screenshot for #2 but if you're looking at #3 (second image) you can imagine what the GREY second row of characters looks like.

Apparently I cannot upload the files as my submission "could not be processed because a security token was missing". I will upload the files as soon as the admin gets back to me or they solve this strange occurrence.There also seems to be a newly imposed max size on all various files to be uploaded and apparently the max allowable size for a zip file is 8MB (while they are all about 14MB)

If you have the apk no need to flash - it installs as user's app but if you have the zip file you'll have to flash it, case in which it installs as system app.

What appears as a "could not be processed because a security token was missing" seems to be just a fancy wording for "files no larger than 8MB" - which sucks. Does anybody have any suggestions for another (free) server where larger files can be uploaded and shared here? (Dropbox is not an option since the account gets flagged and restricted if used as such)

VillainROM 3.0 for Samsung Galaxy S 2
So that old thread was long... Very long... It had good memories, but it's time to move on to a new thread, as 10k posts is just too much, and there are some more changes this time round. First off, it's as usual, a CWM flashable zip file. But, in a slight change of direction in light of Ninpo and Netarchy's Ninphetamine kernel being more complete, version 2.0.5 is now included. That is newer than the version released in the thread, but it will be updated in due course.
So for now, here's what's new in Version 3.0
- Fully deodexed
- Introduction of Ninphetamine kernel into the ROM (version 2.0.5 with BLN etc) - Note that BLN doesn't work with the stock SMS app, but Handcent is fine. I will look at ways to trigger BLN from the Messaging app later
- Install the BLN app from the market to use this
- Removal of Diginotar root certificates from the trusted store, given they are about as secure as a paper bank vault.
- All the usual stuff, although VRTweaks will be added from scratch again, since this seems a newer and better base.
- Re-addition of SIP since Samsung thinks you should be deprived of it.
Additionally, this is a way to try out the official KI3 ROM, without the bootloader being touched, thus allowing the USB jig to continue to working. To re-iterate, VR never flashes radios or bootloaders, so is safe. Stock ROMs, and other custom ROMs which are ODIN flashed, or indeed ZIPs, can and do sometimes flash these things without telling you. Just be aware - Samsung knows about the USB jig resetting the counter, and is on it...
Install procedure, and other details to come in following posts.
Contributing VRTweaks to VillainROM
Iff you want your tweak in VillainTweaks (with full credits etc) then please PM LennyUK with a description, screenshot if you have one to hand and a direct link (xda attachment, dropbox or your own server) No file hosts please.
We will add them to VRTweaks, so users can install them without having to download files to their phone. Likewise, if users find nice tweaks, let Lenny know
VillainROM Installation Instructions
To follow these instructions we presume you already have access to Clockworkmod recovery, and are able to put the zip file onto the SD card, and flash it.
If you are coming from a ROM other than VillainROM 1.2 or above, then you should carry out a full wipe. In fact, you should be carrying out a full wipe anyway, but it's not strictly 100% necessary if you are just coming from the previous version.
Coming from Another ROM
Ensure CWM recovery is available, do a CWM/nandroid backup and titanium backup, and put the zip onto the root of the internal SD.
Enter CWM, carry out a factory reset, and cache wipe, and flash the ROM via "Install zip from SD" option.
Reboot the phone into VillainROM, bearing in mind the first boot may take some time on the boot animation.
To use BLN
Ensure you are using the included Ninphetamine kernel, and install this app from the market (free, paid version with more features available)
VillainROM Download Link
You can download VillainROM 3.0 (2.3.5) from this link
Alternatively, you can download ou can download VillainROM 2.5 from this link (2.3.4 base)
IF YOU THINK THE ROM ISN'T ROOTED, INSTALL SUPERUSER FROM THE MARKET. IF YOU WANT CWM APP, GET IT FROM THE ATTACHMENTS LIST

Super happy fun times
OK, so I think it's time to explain what this is about. It's born from the idea that came about on IRC, for a way to make a theme once for a ROM, rather than have to adjust it for each incremental update for a given ROM or ROMs.
As a user, you don't need to know much - just flash this zip like a regular zip, and you'll get your theme running. But you should be able to apply themes to any device, ROM, and version of the ROM, without it causing adverse effects. That means less time spent by themers making the original theme, and less time spent modifying it constantly for new versions of ROMs.
As a themer? Well, here is the information:
Inside the zip, in the vrtheme folder, you can create a folder called "system" and "data". The former is required, the latter is not required unless you wanted to theme a data app (strongly not recommended, unless you know the app will be there on every phone)
Inside the system or data folder, create a subfolder "app", and in these, make subfolders named EXACTLY after the APK name. For example, to theme the Browser, you need a folder called "Browser.apk". It must be correctly capitalised.
Within there, place the files you require for your theme, in the relevant locations. So most PNGs will be in res/drawable-hdpi/. You can put in xml files too (those which are not in resources.arsc), if you compile them via apktool, and extract them with a zip tool.
In the vrtheme folder, as well as system and data folder, one called "raw" can exist. Within here, you can place files to be copied verbatim to the ROM (for example, modified JAR files). Note that using this may make the theme device dependent (read WILL make it device dependent)
And that's about it.
Features
Will modify APKs in a ROM, without changing signatures, and can be used on any ROM where the filenames of themed files is the same.
Should not need updated between versions of a ROM
Zipaligns all APKs before installation
Stores a backup of all files being modified in /cache/vrtheme-backup/
Requires no coding abilities or editing of files - just drag and drop
Can copy "raw" files, though at risk of not working on other devices (well, let's face it, it won't work on likely a slightly different ROM, so this feature is not recommended or encouraged)

Nothing evil or complicated - just a few little things. You should not charge for access to this code. That includes a zip containing this, or a derivative of it. So please don't sell themes using it. That's not particularly cool. If you want to use it commercially for some reason, get in touch with us.
If you spot a bug or error, and find a fix, please reply in this thread and let us know, or post the changes you made. If you're going to distribute the changed version, it is expected that you share the change made by contacting us, or posting it here.
Finally, don't be a douche - don't rip this off or call it your own, and leave all headers and comments identifying the origin of the code in place. Don't rename this to match your ROM or "team" name - it's not cool, and it's not yours to go and adjust. I chose to make this a readable "plain" script, but can easily obfuscate and encrypt it if you want to be a douche.

" OK folks... A quick vote -
You can have the VR2.4 ROM odexed, tomorrow. Or deodexed, with a laggy (or non-present) stock browser tonight.
What do we think? I don't have my odexed files handy and ain't re-loading it all in again... "

First of all, thanks for the great work!!
In the meanwhile, could you please further collaborate on the reason for your move from an odexed framework towards the fully deodexed framework?
We know that we will be missing the smooth scrolling of the browser, but what will we get on the other side?

[Guide][MIUI] Custom Font MTZs (Super Easy!)

So, as I've promised in the MIUI thread, I'm creating a small and simple guide on how you can make your own font MTZ. Sense users, I will be creating a similar guide for you very soon.
It's not actually all that hard, and if you know me and my guides, you'll know I'm going to make an easy process ridiculously easy.
Stuff We'll be Needing:
My stock file: Download
WinRAR/7Zip/Extracting Utility
Fonts that you want to use
Notepad (or any text editor, I like Notepad++)
A few minutes of time
So to begin with, let's start with the fonts. You'll want to find a font that you like, and it may or may not look good on our screens. It will just be trial and error. Also, if you're going to want to preserve "bold" text (meaning unread items in GMail being bold), you'll need a font set that contains a bold typeface as well. Also, they MUST be in ttf format.
Let's begin.
1. Clone and Rename Our Font Files
Assuming you've already downloaded your fonts, create a folder anywhere on your computer called "Font Workshop". (You don't have to do it this way, but I suggest you do so that you can keep it organized). Then, in that folder, paste your fonts, and then create a folder called "Renamed Fonts", as I have done in the screenshot below:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now then, as you can see, the font I have picked comes in three different variations; regular, light, and bold. Your font may not come in different variations, if it doesn't, ignore this part. If it does, think about it. How "heavy" do you prefer your fonts? The reason why we ask this question is because MIUI has two main fonts which get used the most. The regular font (Arial), and its bold version (Arial-Bold, which apps like GMail use to signify unread items).
So your use could be the following;
1) Light font for regular text, regular font for "unread" items.
2) Light, regular, OR bold for all text
3) (Most common) regular fonts for regular text, and bold fonts for bold text.
In my example, I'm going to use option 3, because it is the most common. So, for the purpose of this writing, MIUI's two main fonts are Arial.ttf and Arial-Bold.ttf. Keep that in mind as we go on.
WARNING: Your file manager may not be showing you the full file extension. If using Windows, use this guide to ensure that you have them turned on.
So, I have my 3 fonts, now I need to rename them accordingly for MIUI to understand them. I only intend on using the regular and the bold versions, so what I will do is rename "Sansation_Bold.ttf" as "Arial-Bold.ttf". I will then rename "Sansation_Regular.ttf" as "Arial.ttf". This means my finished product will tell MIUI to use Sansation_Bold anywhere that Arial-Bold is called for, and it will use Sansation_Regular anywhere that Arial is called for.
If you do NOT have a bold-specific font file, make two copies of the same font, renaming one of them Arial.ttf and the other Arial-Bold.ttf.
Makes sense? Good, let's continue.
Now that our two font files are renamed, let's put them in our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
2. Create the proper folder structure
Alright, now remember that zip I had you download before? The MIUI_FONT_MTZ.zip. Extract that somewhere on your desktop, so that we can see the files inside it, so that this is what we see in a new window:
Now, open up the "fonts" folder and paste in our renamed fonts from our "Renamed Fonts" folder.
Now, let's go up one folder, where we see the "description.xml" file. Open it up with Notepad (don't just double click it, by default .xml files will open up with Internet Explorer). I'm using NotePad++, which is why the colors look different. You don't need to download NotePad++, notepad will do the job just fine. When you open it up, this is what we see:
This is the file that tells MIUI what the theme package is for, and allows for you to easily use it from the theme manager. Fill in the names as shown (but be careful not to touch anything but the highlighted letters). So, now that you've done that, it should look something similar to this:
Once you've finished, hit Ctrl-S to save it, and close your text editor. Now before we continue, you will notice there is a "preview" folder, that is how people create the "theme preview" images that you see when browsing through your themes on your phone. For the purposes of this process, I'm not going to document how to use that (partly because you don't have any preview to put in there, and partly because I'm not 100% sure what the filename requirements are) So let's ignore that for now.
3. Create our Font MTZ and apply it!
Highlight all the files as shown, and right click on them so that we can create our archive:
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. When the window pops up, select "ZIP" instead of RAR, and make sure the Compression level is set to "Store". Any compression will corrupt the font mtz:
Now, once we've created the archive, we need to rename it as an mtz. Right click on it, and click "Rename". Delete the ".zip" part, and make it ".mtz", so that it looks like the screenshot below.
Press Enter. This warning will come up, saying that changing the file extension may render the file useless. Simply press "Yes".
Awesome, now that we have our MTZ, we want to drag on drop it on to our SD card. Put it in /MIUI/theme, as shown below:
Awesome, now unmount the the SD card, and on your phone (from the homescreen) press Menu > Settings > Theme. At the bottom, tap the button that says "Customize". Find the "Font" entry, and tap on it. You will see your font with the name you gave it. Tap on it, and hit Apply, and boom! There you go! All finished. You can replicate the process as many times as you want, making different fonts as you please.
BUT REMEMBER: ALWAYS REBOOT AFTER APPLYING A FONT. You will have garbled text in certain apps until you do.
My post. Just in case there needs to be further additions or corrections.
Good stuff bro!
Fixed a rather embarrassing issue
Nice tutorial, but I have a couple of questions. Why are you renaming the files to Arial? I see the part that says that substitutes one font for another, bit why Arial? Is that the default font in MIUI? What font names are usable? In my case I'm trying to replace the Chinese character set with Japanese since a few things are off if you don't. I have fonts from stock android and DroidSansJapanese.ttf but not sure with the naming scheme you've outlined what I should name it to.
Nice tutorial...........
Bootloop in MIUI V4 {SGS II}
Thanks for this guide. Are these files compatible with MIUI V4? Because lot of fonts in MIUI themes online leads to boot loop in my MIUI V4!!

So I keep the basic phones functions like call, sms, camera, alarm, email, radio, etc; and deleted the rest.
I also changed the theme to make the ROM more simple and sophisticated.
After 23hs of work and near 80 ROM flashing I get this ROM I want to share with all you, beautiful people

Once inside, you can open text files and edit them, or you can add your own favourites apps to the "app" folder (recommended).
Also, you can insert your own ringtones and sounds on "media/audio" folder.
Replacing the default Keyboard BEFORE installing the ROM:
Open the zip with Winrar, go to "app" folder and delete "SuquashiInputMethod.apk".
Insert in the same folder you favourite keyboard (Swift, Go keyboard, etc).
-------------------
FAQ and Important things:
There is no market, how can I install apps?
Easy Installer was included in the ROM to make installs from USB. You don't have Android Market (play).
What happened with Maps, GPS; Wifi, Blutooth?
Everything is working perfect. Maps has offline options, and Wifi is the new "n" standard.
I'm having a little problem with Root Explorer settings permisions. I can't see the accept button!
Exactly, the bottons are a little more bigger, and you can't choose them :silly:. You can make a workaround changing the LCD Density from default 120 to 110 or less, but you will broke the BackUp utility included with the ROM.
Can't change the ringtones!
The default music app was removed, so, until you install another music apps, you will only choose preinstalled ringtones.
What's about speed and stability of the ROM?
I'm a person who loves to write a SMS with a fast response phone. The ROM was tweaked for speed, but overclock, JIT, underclock and other things which can make the ROM unstable were NOT included. So, it's as stable (or more than) the stock Sony ROM.
Can I use parts of your ROM to make mine?
Of course! Do whatever you want if you thing you can improve it. You can add JIT, Overclock, Underclock... but, please, remember to put me on the credits of your ROM.

If you never changed your kernel probably you have this one.
If you have Android 1.5 try to update it first, using Sony Ericsson Update Service.
A detailed transcription of the error will be apreciated too. Thanks :good:

this wont do ant good, i have tried many market version and later realized that this rom cant be synchronized with google accounts which is must for market to work.
You will need to add some apps to the ROM, like: GoogleCheckin.apk, Gmail.apk, GmailProvider.apk...
If you really need to use the market and a light ROM then I recommend you the stock or MiniCM7-2.2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068553

(Tutorial)Lock Screen mod for Nabi 2 NABI2-NV7A

This tutorial is for lock screen modification to Nabi 2 NABI2-NV7A US or UK version although only confirmed working with US version. Although the steps would be identical for either version, just don’t have a UK Nabi 2 to test my theory.
I created this thread in hope that if anyone use this tutorial they will provide a picture of lock screen and also share their flashable zip file for the entire Nabi community. If sharing flashable zip files the naming convention has to match the firmware version as I have done below.
A couple of tools & files will be required first and I have provided links to downloads.
• 7-zip
• apkmultitool
• nabi_circle.png
• empty_framework.zip
I will start with the apk multi tool, I have to give kudos to the developer of this tool, super easy to use; if possible consider making a donation and continue supporting the development of this tool. Currently using Windows 7 64 OS so all instructions will be for Window users.
1) After download of tool, extract to the root of C:\
2) Make sure you have USB debugging checked in Nabi found in Settings\Developers options
3) Connect tablet and go C:\ APK-Multi-Tool\setup.bat and follow instruction 1 thru 3
4) After the 3 steps go to C:\ APK-Multi-Tool\other you will find the framework-res.apk & SystemUI.apk
5) Copy and paste framework-res.apk to C:\ APK-Multi-Tool\place-apk-here-for-modding now click the Scipt.bat hit enter; then option 9 Decompile apk
6) Then you will find the decompiled apk in C:\ APK-Multi-Tool\projects
The files to edit with your pictures are found here, go and replace the png files listed below.
C:\APK-Multi-Tool\projects\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-sw600dp-mdpi
A. fuhu_ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png
B. fuhu_ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png
C. nabi_circle.png
D. unlock_directions.png (Optional)
The fuhu_ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png & fuhu_ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png have to be 1024 x 552 px. and they both have to be the same picture.The nabi_circle.png 184 x 238 has to be replaced with a transparent.png for simplicity I have provided a download link to one. Also the unlock_directions.png is optional that file is 120 x 120 px by replacing all these files you can create your own custom lock screen mod. What I did is I renamed all my png files to default names.
If you want to change default wallpaper, which is 1536 x 1024 px
C:\APK-Multi-Tool\projects\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-sw600dp-nodpi
1. After you have edited your files; then enter the cmd and choose option 11 Compile system apk files. Then it will ask if you would like to copy additional files that you didn’t modify from the original apk in order to ensure least # of errors (y/n)
2. Enter y
3. Now go back to C:\APK-Multi-Tool\keep and delete the files you have modified then hit enter
4. You will now find a unsignedframework-res.apk file in C:\ APK-Multi-Tool\place-apk-here-for-modding
5. Place this file in different folder (example minions) rename to framework-res.apk
6. Grab the empty_framework.zip open this with 7-zip without unzipping and drag the framework-res.apk in emty_framework.zip\system\framework\drag here.
If your emty_framework.zip is only showing META-INF folder just click file top left of 7-zip and then "create folder" system repeat again and create framework folder, then open that folder and drag framework-res.apk there. 7-zip will ask are you sure you want to copy file just click yes.
If you want to modify the updater script you can extract into your computer and modify it with notepad and change the name of the lockscreen, this will be able to be read in recovery. If you don’t take this last step it will say “Installing custom lockscreen”. The updater script can be found in
empty_framework.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script
Here are a few lockscreens that are only for firmware 2.3.11 enjoy

So I flashed the frozen one no problem, but then tired to flash the original and it just hangs on boot loading. Have you tested flashing that zip. I just flashed the frozen back and was fine. Just a heads up.

Hi.
I had posted this in one of the general forums since I didn't have access at the time to post in the development forums.. I'll post this here as well now that I can..
Question on the process to change the default kids mode wallpaper in the lockscreen process on the Nabi2's since moving to Jellybean.
katinatez's excellent process for the lock screen portion works fine (THANK YOU for sharing this, BTW)
End result:
I am trying to add a custom wallpaper into the apk when I change the lockscreen.
The file I am targeting is called default_wallpaper_kid.png and it is 1024x552.
The file is located in 2 folders:
framework-res.apk\res\drawable-hdpi
and
framework-res.apk\res\drawable-mdpi
I change these 2 files, recompile and follow the rest of the process as normal. Flash install onto the Nabi2 in TWRP and reboot. I still get the same default blue block kids mode wallpaper.
I've gone back and pulled the framework back off of the Nabi once I did the install and the changed wallpapers are in fact there. I can't figure out where the Nabi is pulling the standard blue block default wallpaper from since I verified that I replaced the files that I thought it should be.
I should note that I had previously changed the wallpaper during another lock screen install, so I'm stumped as to why I'm not able to change it now. And yes, I could just simply copy the wallpaper over to the Nabi and set it as wallpaper from there but it's bugging me as to why the process isn't working.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Someone else asked this question a long time ago. I can't find that answer searching(can't remember enough words from that post), it seems something like it was already cached since it was the apk, so it didn't pick up the change. I can't remember if the solution was to wipe caches or something like that or clear some data in an app in settings. Or maybe neither and I remember nothing..... LOL.
I believe the blue block wallpaper you are talking about, is in fact the NabiMode.apk default wallpaper.
Take the NabiMode.apk decompile & go thru steps replacing with whatever wallpaper you want for kids launcher wallpaper.
You will also find Madagascar wallpaper inside the NabiMode.apk
Good luck
Thanks guys -- I'll try to poke around with it later tonight when I get home.
Appreciate the info.

Yeah, I've learned to do that the hard way..
Thanks!
Well, I pulled NabiMode.apk and decompiled it and found where the kids mode wallpaper is kept. I don't know about tinkering with the apk though as the data/addon_res folders are read only and I'm not sure that I want to get into playing around with figuring out how to push to a read only folder at this point - MUCH easier to just copy the wallpaper over to the Nabi and set it.
Thx guys!

Hi
BIt out of my depth with this but in updating the nabi2 from Jellybean to KitKat the lockscreen changed and it will upset my boy as he has autism. So planning to do this.
FIrstly, the apkmultitool ink seems broken does anyone have it please?
Secondly, I got the original lockscreen download as a zip in another thread from SMcC2 does that mean I can avoid a big bit of this tutorial??
Thank you for any help please.
Alex
Edit: Does me being on kitkat mean none of this will work ?

It should work well once all the supporting files are installed, ( HTC Service Pack, Location Services, HTC Account etc). Pls try installing them it is there as part of the download.
If there is still error, do let me know the details of the error and I will try and fix.
This is working almost perfectly now, given the 23rd update. Well done and thank you! My only problem is is that I'm running at 440 DPI and am having trouble using App Settings to find the correct DPI for Sense Home. Although something along the lines of 535dpi looks best, the folders look cut off. Does anybody know what DPI the OP would be using?
