[Q] Sound not loud enough - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

anyone else having this issue? i just bought this today and my iphone 5 speaker was louder than this. only time its somewhat loud if you lay it on a surface but thats because it amplifies it.

I also think its not as loud as my s3 but it sounds way clearer

I've noticed the same thing. My Droid Razr was louder.

Is there a way to better call quality??

I just got my Rezound and one of my only complaints is the call quality. It sounds very distorted. I wasn't sure if there was a mod or something I could flash to change or better the call quality.
Search is your friend.
Scroll down to almost the last post.
Thanks, I did a search and for some reason didn't see that. Anyways, tried it and calls still sound off. Im beginning to think that it's a speaker issue.
My first rezound had a bad ear piece speaker. Sound like the speak was blown out. The new phone I have is perfect. Exchange the phone.

my incall quality is great, it's the low speaker volume that sucks!
As a phone my Rezy has far and away the best performance for voice calls of any smartphone I've ever owned...ymmv.

[Q] Why is the speaker such a POS??

1st get iPhone speaker is better than this phone's speaker... Mine already has a crackle and it's driving me crazy..
The orignal galaxy s had an amazing speaker.. What happen??
Mine sounds great not a crackle to it...
Sorry to hear that, you have 2 options.. 1. Get an iPhone or 2. Stfu and enjoy it.

This speaker is super loud and has relatively good sound. What do you expect, a mini subwoofer?

This is only a smart phone. Granted, it's a very - very good one. However, it's not a DJ's workstation. It's a phone. Use headphones if you're so bothered. And not the ones they give you in the box because obviously those aren't that amazing.
Always buy a good quality pair.
If you're talking about the sound quality of the ring when you're getting a phone call, don't beat the phone up about it. When you get a phone call, you pick it up to stop the ring. You don't sit there listening to it!
This is the one of the best speakerphone speakers I've had on a phone (outside of my older blackberry). iPhone speaker is awful, and the mic. is even worse.
Sounds like you have something wrong.

External speaker, faulty or normal?

My s3 is stock with just cf root.
If you take an app or game, such as angry birds star wars. On the menu when the star wars theme plays, volume on max, does the sound sound all crackly?
It's almost like listening to a very low bit rate mp3. Not bass distortion as it's as bad on highs.
I know it's just a mono speaker and probably not very big, but does everyone's sound like this?
Mines a first build of the I9300 purchased at release.
I'm wondering if my speaker is flapping on the grill or whether it's just bad.
It's always sounded like this, but only now is it bugging me
I'm considering a warranty claim but don't want the hassle of sending it off, only to find they all sound like this.
Thanks

Has anyone had an iPhone 5 ?(Speaker compared to DNA)

I would just want to know how the DNA speaker compares to the iphone 5. I think the 5 has an amazing loud speaker which delivers great full sound and some bass, unlike some tinny HTC ones.
I just want to get a phone that has a good speaker, I don't like the boring iOS. So doed the speaker on the DNA have fuller sound is it louder?

The DNA has an amp, so that makes it better than the ip5

The DNA has a good speaker capable of being quite loud. However, many pre installed notifications and ring tones are rather quiet on my opinion.

i have to disagree. even with the built in amp, IMO, the ip5 blows this thing out the water.
speaker volume is much louder on the ip5, music output thru headphones is much louder and crisper on the ip5, and bluetooth volume and quality for music is much better with the ip5.
I still chose to get rid of it because I was bored with it, but I tested both side by side for a while before making my final decision. The ip5 is a superior audio device.
to be honest, the speaker in the DNA is amazing. it sounds 50x better than the rezound did, and it's finally got some more bass and low end like the galaxy nexus did.

I disagree because I have both phones here and DNA is superior.

So have you guys tested songs from various genres to conclude ?
So which one is louder?

The only audio gripe I have with my DNA is that the sound gets muffled easily since the speaker is on the back. Other than that it sounds great!

I have both and the iPhone 5 has a better speaker. Not much louder but just enough to be noticeable.
Sent from my Droid DNA
Personally, I think the DNA has a better speaker after listening to both play the same song side by side. The iphone's speaker just doesn't have the depth of sound that the DNA's does. But whatever, I guess it depends on your personal preference. I really only use the phone speaker for the phone, and earbuds for music, so I'm not too picky.
The only phone that's safe to say has a better speaker than i5 is the Lumia 920, the sound is full and a lot louder.
But Windows phone is really boring.

have you listened to the dna via bluetooth in a car stereo? Or with bluetooth headphones?
Have you plugged up headphones to both? Im not iphone fanboy, I just know Ive had a iPhone 4s and 5, and AUDIO wise, they are superior to the DNA. Im not saying the DNA is bad, it is better than any other HTC device ive had, but even with beats audio, in MY OPINION apple devices hold a clear advantage. I even went and purchased a second hand ipod nano just to make up for the difference because I want apple audio quality but dont want to give up my dna.

i've tried bluetooth headphones, but the ones i suck are terrible..those LG earbud ones that a bunch of us got for free that time verizon messed up their site lol..they're awful quality in general, and i don't have any good bluetooth headphones to test with it
Alright I've done some testing of my own and this is what my opinion on the matter is being the audiophile that I am.
Speaker quality goes to the DNA for a few reasons. The iPhone5 has a very crisp speaker but that is quickly lost the louder it gets, this is not the same on the DNA as it's clear throughout the volume level. I feel as though the depth of sound is also better on the DNA (ex: a tom hit sounds like a tom hit on the DNA. Sounds more produced and false on the iPhone5).
Clear winner for Bluetooth headphones goes to the iPhone5 as volume tends to be quieter when using the DNA. Clarity is identical. (Tested using CD-BT603)
Now for the wired headset. Using Bose OE2, bass and treble is a big win for DNA as the sound produced is very big and very clear. Not that the iPhone5 isn't, it's just not as great as the DNA. Middles seemed to be just about the same and couldn't pick a winner.
All and all both of these phones create a great sound, but the winner in my opinion is the DNA. This was also tested with beats off as I have never been a big fan of the sound it produces outside of rap junk and maybe country.

I am glad that you agree with me
My point is proven again...but honestly the OP needs to do his own research because on this website you will find nothing but people who disagree and always want to prove other people wrong..I personally believe that the DNA is the winner but clearly we have people that think that the IP5 is the best.
So now that you have our opinions...I would do my own research and pick what you like best.
Objectively the iPhone has a higher quality sound, at least through the headphones:

OK so I just went to the Verizon store with my friend and we compared songs on the speaker of her i5 and the DNA and I have to say the DNA produces some decent lows and mids, it seems to have more bass thanks to the beats amp.
But still iPhone 5 seems just a little louder, there might be an app for the DNA to boost the volume without distortion hopefully

[Q] How good are the speakers?

Everyone knows the One has great sound. Since I don't know anyone who currently owns the One and don't think I can get a real feel in-store, can current owners give me a comparative opinion?
My frames of reference are the Galaxy Note 10.1 stereo speakers and the Nokia N8.
Thanks!
I had the nexus 10, which I think was supposed to have the same speakers as the galaxy note series.
The One's speakers are much fuller in terms of range and soundstage. Highs are higher and lows are deeper.
The only positive aspect of the N10/Note's speakers were that they were front spacing, quality wise they were relatively crappy-sounding.
I'm very pleased with the speakers, I will admit I thought they would be a little louder but the sound quality is impressive. If you disable beats the volume is a little greater Imo. I'd try to find a demo unit and mess with it.

They're almost obnoxiously loud, but the quality is amazing. I don't want another phone with rear speakers.

They won't replace any headsets or speaker docks, but they have brought built in speakers from hideous to surprisingly acceptable. They're magnitudes better than the very very low bar that is the norm.

Agreed... I have to keep my ringer to half or so in the house because of the volume but I wouldn't have it any other way...

I had to get a new alarm clock that slowly increases the volume of the alarm over 5 minutes. The standard alarm on the One scared the crap out of me in the morning on two occasions.
I agree with the others. The sound is loud but also clear. My GS3 speaker would get loud but that was only if it was facing away from you or if the sound was reflecting off of something. While it was loud it sounded really distorted. The speakers on the One are loud and don't sound like a teeny tiny cellphone speaker. They sound like decent laptop speakers.

:good:
Is amazing how good and crisp they sound. One of those things that you think is overhyped marketing.....and when you see it in action you don't want to get another phone with rear speaker. Crisp. Clear. If music played has stereo quality it comes out as it should. Obviously, these are small speakers, but for the size it's amazing.
I use my One to play music for my office floor. Rameses b. Not bad stuff. Check him out.
Excellent speakers.

I love the speakers, they are loud, but not overbearing, the quality is much better than most others phones I have heard. Im happy I dont have to cup my hand behind the phone anymore just to hear the sound when im watching a youtube video. all in all, I think its the fact that the speakers are in front instead of on the back, it makes for a better user experience IMO.:good:
My 2 year old can finally listen to "wheels on the bus" in stereo quality, praise the Lord!
