[Q] flashed rom with TWRP recovery and phone not booting? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was wandering if somebody could help me? I tried to flash a liberium rom and also flashed TWRP recovery. Did a backup and tried to boot my phone and it wont boot? It wont go into recovery mode also. It does however go into Download mode.
Also, I have a nandroid backup on my pc but dont know how to restore it via Odin? Dont want to do anything further as am fearful that it might make things worse!
If somebody could guide me how to get this working please? I would be very grateful. Phone is S3 I9300 (International version)
Many thanks

By your case u can only flash a stock rom via odin.
But it looks if u flashed wrong recovery by the looks of it.
And from that its not a certain return.
But u can always try
Learn how to flash with odin.
And go for it.
Any help u need just pm me

Don't blame on TWRP, you might be doing something wrong.
1. Flash recovery via Odin, TWRP or Phliz touch.
2. Enter recovery to restore your backup, both TWRP and Phliz will work for TWRP format backup, or reflash the ROM /Kernel or whatever you flashed, better do a redownload, file may be corrupted.
3. If you still unable to enter recovery, flash stock firmware via Odin and use Titanium backup to extract / restore your data from recovery's backup.

Optimus V Stuck In Thuderc Recovery

Okay so i had a rooted phone with xionia kernel and decided to use my nandroid backup to restore to stock VM Rom. Well like an idiot i factory reset from android GUI with stock VM ROM and forgot i had thuderc custom recovery. Now my phone is stuck in recovery mode and i cant flash to another rom or restore my nandroid backup. i"ve seen posts about this specific problem and people just get refered to a thread thats not specific for my problem. If i can get any help to get my phone back to stock or rooted just so i can still use it, it would be deeply appreciated.
You can try to help yourself by using the RomTools present here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971245
Other than that the only other solution I can see right now is to enter in Emergency\Download mode and flash with KDZ.
Please follow the guide here: http://prepaidandroid.org/index.php?title=How_to_restore_your_Optimus_V_to_almost_original_condition

[Question!!] Restore stock?

Hi,
i've just installed the Resurrection remix rom on my phone but unfortunately the banking app that I use a lot doesnt work with it for some reason. How do I go about restoring my phone to the stock ICS and kernel... I do still want to keep root access, though.
This is the kernel I originally flashed it with
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip
all help will be greatly appreciated
I should add that I tried to restore from the back up that I made in clockwork recovery but the app cant find it so I'm thinking the back up didnt work properly!
Anyone?

Using cwm wipe, if possible, format system partition, after that flash using Odin.
Learn how to use Odin, get file from sammobile, or check fus

Did you make a nandroid backup in CWM? If yes, just boot to recover, do a full wipe and do a restore.
If not, go to receovery, do a full wipe, turn off phone, flash the firmware you want thru odin. Let it boot. Power off again, go into download mode, flash a rooted kernel, let it boot and then flash the original kernel with CWMManager from within the rom.
Thanks guys... all sorted

[Q] how to revert back to stock jb I777UCMD8 from custom rom

I'm currently on pacman ROM v22. and i want to go back to stock jelly bean. I do have a nandroid backup but when I try to restore it fails. I guess its because of the latest cwm I.e. v 6.0.4. right? how should I restore the backup now? please help.. I'd be thankful
(galaxy s2 at&t sgh i777)
If you know what version of recovery you used to make the backup, install the kernel with that version of recovery. If the kernel does not match your current operating system, the phone will not boot into the system, but it should boot into recovery and allow you to restore the backup.
Or you could just flash the I777UCMD8 stock firmware with Odin, which you can download from the Download Repository.
as far as I remember I used v6.0 of cwm with the stock kernel.. yeah I was using stock kernel when I had v 6.0 of recovery.. should I downgrade to v6.0 cwm and try?
so I downgraded cwm to 6.0.1.0.. I guess that's the version I was using when I made backup.. tried to restore.. error: MD 5 mismatch
what does it mean?
new problem occurred.. :/
I downgraded recovery to 6.0.1.0 now I can't update it back to 6.0.4.5.. rebooted system.. and booted it back to recovery now that when I try to upgrade cwm I get error: couldnt mount SD card.. and when I checked my kernel has been replaced with cynogenmod #1 from aj kernel.. how should I get back the cwm 6.0.4.5 (I have .zip file is SD card but it won't mount in cwm) please help!
***ignore this I got it back working***
just tell me how can I restore the backup of my stock jelly bean
You can defeat the md5 check if you are absolutely certain that the nandroid backup is not corrupted. Sometimes just changing the file name of a nandroid backup will mess up the md5 sum, but the file is still good. But if you try to install a corrupt nandroid file by defeating the md5 check, you can do serious harm to the phone.
In this case I would not recommend even going there. It's no problem to flash the stock firmware using Odin. Yes, you will need to perform a wipe data/factory reset first, and yes you will lose your apps and personal settings, but there are backup programs for that. I would recommend this route.

okay but I didn't make any changes on the nandroid backup..
i have a question.. i'm using unlocked at&t here in india.. will upgrading firmware from odin lock my phone again?
and thanks for your help
There's also the option of using titanium backup restore the apps and settings of your nandroid backup.
settings > extract from nandroid backup > [select backup] > choose which apps/data that you want to restore.

well that's cool cryil.. but unfortunately I have no app & data backed up in my nandroid backup.. its just the stock ROM and settings.. while I was flashing the latest cwm I by mistake deleted my phone data.. so there is nothing just the stock ROM..
I just want to restore my nandroid backup to return to stock ROM.. I am away from PC for sometime so flashing with Odin is not possible at the moment.. I don't know what to do now..
(please also see the other thread by me)
thanks
is there any way to flash stock firmware through cwm.. I have cwm manager and it has a feature which says *flash the stock firmware* but I don't know how to use it... I don't care if I lose root access and cwm..

I'm not sure about that one.
But, you can still boot into your custom rooted firmware? If so, you can use Mobile Odin Pro or Mobile Odin Lite to flash the stock firmware from the phone.
yeah mobile Odin I have heard about it.. how to flash firmware with mobile Odin? we have to extract the .zip right? can you please tell me step wise procedure?
thanks once again
5 bucks says he's using Rom Manager app. Because clearly that'd be causing him issues.
yeah phalanx you're absolutely right. I flashed cwm recovery from ROM manager.. I didn't read stickies.. so I was not aware about the ROM manager causing problem thing.. anyways I got v6.0.1.0 of cwm after flashing from ROM manager.. I reeboted phone successfully.. checked kernel.. it was still the stock kernel.. If I'm not wrong flashing cwm replaces the kernel? anyways.. then I booted to recovery.. made nandroid backup.. upgraded cwm to 6.0.4.5.. flashed pacman ROM successfully.. and now that when I want to restore the nandroid backup it gives MD 5 mismatch error.. any suggestions ?

You can not install a .zip package with Mobile Odin. You can install the stock I777UCMD8 4.1.2 ICS firmware with Mobile Odin. Mobile Odin recognizes .tar and .tar.md5 files. The stock distribution, which you can download from the Download Repository, (see link in my signature) is a .tar.md5 file. Mobile Odin requires root access, so the following assumes you have a rooted firmware on the phone that will fully boot into the system.
Download Mobile Odin from this thread. Download the flash kernel from post #10 of the same thread. Install both apk's on your phone.
Download the UCMD8 .tar.md5 to the root of the internal sd card. I hope you have access to wifi because that is a pretty large file. Boot into recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset. Boot back into the system. Mobile Odin will now recognize the .tar.md5 file so that you can flash it. Once you flash it, you will have lost root, and will have fully stock firmware and kernel.
wowie thanks for your help bro! downloading the .tar.md5 .. last question by my side.. I didn't use mobile Odin ever before.. so I dont understand what's that thing? I mean as I have .tar.md5 file I will then just have to click on flash firmware?? or there is something I am missing?

Once you have both the main application and the flash kernel installed on your phone, open Mobile Odin, scroll down and touch Open file..., select internal sdcard, and then select the .tar.md5. You should be able to figure out the rest from there.
I successfully flashed i777UCMD8 from mobile odin and didnt even lose root.. thanks creepyncrawly!

some other guy told me to try flashing any other kernel? can I use any custom kernel with stock jelly bean? which one?

[Q] Firmware upgrade encountered an issue error after phone crash???

So I have no idea what the hell happened just now... I opened WhatsApp, it somehow crashed my phone. I try to reboot, it hangs on the Samsung logo... I try to reboot again, and I got the firmware upgrade error. Have gotten it every time since.
I have been using my phone for ages without any problems, and haven't made any changes to it in forever either. What do I do???
edit:
I guess what I'm most curious about is if there is a way to get this fixed without having to return to stock and all that. This is such bull**** man... I did NOTHING wrong, and somehow it still got messed up. HOW?! I have no words... I want to at least access all my data before I do any flashing, if that is necessary... But how do I access my data when I can't hook it up to my PC... Man I'm trying to stay calm but I'm so pissed off right now.
Can you get it into recovery and download mode?
An alternative is flashing a custom recovery using odin, then make a nandroid backup.
After that, flash clean stock firmware, flash custom recovery and try advance-restore the data partition from the nandroid backup.

I have a custom recovery flashed already but it will only boot into download, not into recovery. Or do you mean to boot into download and flash a custom recovery in hopes it will boot into recovery after I newly flash it?
Sooo.. how do I get access to my phone so I can backup my data? ;_; if I can only access download mode
bump
Try flashing a custom recovery with download mode which you can use to copy data to an extremal sd. If that doesn't work then emmc chip is probably blown or corrupt.
If so then try the rescue firmware in general forum, which might repair the partition structure, otherwise you'll need a new motherboard.

Hey there! Thanks for the reply. Which custom recovery would you recommend? CWM Touch 6.0.4.7 maybe?
I wouldn't recommend, as this is against xda rules, but I use philz myself.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Tried flashing philz, but didn't work. It seemed to flash properly but it just won't boot into recovery. Gives me like a screen with 'static', black/white/grey lines. Seems like an emmc problem then. Where is this rescue firmware thread you speak of? I am really desperate atm, I want to save the data on my phone, the phone itself comes second, data is the most important. If I lose the phone but save the data I'm okay with that.

You can easily switch stock recovery to cwm with flashify app,No need Odin. Just flash recovery.img with this app & also u can flash custom kernals.
Check this post.....

Sadly didn't work, it says that my phone didn't pass the compability test so what's now? When i look for it on google play it says "your device isn't compatible with this version" but it installed succefully on my device running originally 2.3.6 with generic kitkat rom in 4.4.2 is there any method to do it in odin at least? Or custom kernel would be better? Answers will be appreciated.
No way to change it, also the risk is extreme i don't wanna brick my device, even i installed a custom kernel from odin, it showed "PASS" and my phone restarted and appeared the samsung logo later it turned off and restarted again and later the screen kept in white and i did need to get back to the old kernel
Anyway flash the stock recovery it's impossible to do.

You know that without cwm recovery u can't flash custom roms & kernals.
Pleas clear that which recovery u want stock recovery or cwm recovery?
And why?
Then I can easily guide or help u.
Best regards.
I want to change stock recovery to cwm recovery. I want cwm permanently no temporal, i know the zip file it's temporal but i want it permanent! I don't know how my phone did install "Compact" kernel with stock recovery and not with cwm i've had to do it that way 'cause odin didn't work and my phone got bricked
Can i install cwm permanent on samsung galaxy young duos? (S6102B)
I'll be very grateful if somebody could explain me!
The reason why i want cwm permanent and why i want it it's because i don't want to enter in recovery and see always the limited stock recovery with just 4 options
