How do you change the camera storage location on 4.2.2?? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I just lost 140-ish pictures while switching ROMs because apparently the camera in 4.2.2 saves to internal memory instead of to the SD card. Is there a way to change the storage location so this crap doesn't happen again?

When you have the camera app open, there will be a little icon in the top left showing a picture of the sd card to let you know you have it selected. To select to save to the sd card click the options (looks like audio sliders), and scroll down to bottom and you will see storage. Select memory card. :good:
Sucks you lost your pics though. I've done this before too. On the plus side, you will only make this mistake once.

Yeah, I took my son to an aquarium and took pictures of him and all kinds of animals, including videos. The day before switching roms, I thought "maybe I should back up these pictures" but I didn't.
But I don't see what you're talking about. If I press and hold anywhere on the screen, a few options come up, and one of them is the settings/audio sliders thing, but selecting that has no storage option. I can't even scroll. There's just "scene mode, store location, and picture size."

Maybe Store Location is it? I havent messed with AOSP or the camera in quite a while but the Store Location sounds like it might be it.
How did you lose the pictures?

It really depends on what camera the ROM you are on has incorporated into it. I'm on liquid ROM and if you click the little circle in the bottom right while holding it in portrait and click the settings button it will bring up the camera settings. It may have a storage location option and it may not. I have noticed that paranoid doesn't have that option. It's very unfortunate that you lost all your pictures tho :/ I tend to move my pictures to my SD every time I switch roms when if I'm not wiping data. Hopefully you can find that option otherwise you may want to try another camera app that will allow you to change save location. Good luck!

Something I just thought of that the OP could try is one of the 4.2 camera mods that is floating around in the Themes and Apps section. One of those may be modded to allow a different storage location.

Its store location man...a while back when i was switchen roms most aosp could only be on device..liquid and pac what im on now store locarion had device and card...one of the reasons i havnt flashed in a while lol my wallet has been worken good and i can store to memory card my pics

while in the camera app, if you press the menu button, a pop up menu should appear and if you scroll to the very bottom, there is a storage location. gives you the options for phone or sd card if you have one. by default they should be saved to the sd card. however, if you eject the sd card and then take a picture while the sd card is not in the phone, the camera will switch it to store it on the phone. it will also do this if the sd card is full.
a way to tell if the photos are stored on the phone or the sd card is to look at the folders of photos. if the folder has an sd card symbol in the bottom left corner, it is on the sd card (a simpler way is to eject the sd card and see if the photos are still in the gallery )
if you find that a folder is not on the sd card, you can simply move it to the sd card. The stock gallery app will allow you to move it but its not extremely obvious at first. if you tap on the folder that is not stored on the sd card and allow the pictures to load to the right, load press on any photo in that folder. you can now select them all by tapping the "1 selected" drop down menu on the top left and tap on "Select all". Next you will press the menu button which will show the option "Move". Choose the folder you would like it to go to on the sd card and you r done.
hope this helped.

Can anyone tell me how can I set a desired folder to save my camera clicks???

what if there is no storage button in the camera app
Ok , for those that were searching the internet for another option because there is NO button in the camera app , you can just go to Settings -> Storage -> and select Default Write Disk w/e u want

default folder for camera

How do ya change where the camera puts the pictures it takes. I would like to have my pictures stored on my storage card instead of on the main memory.
A little late for a reply but in case anyone else has the same question there is a icon on the top middle of the camera app, when you are using the rom, it looks like a microchip, when you are saving to the memory card it looks like the memory card, when you tap this icon it will toggle where you are saving your pics to.

Screenshot apps

Every one I have tried so far takes screenshots that need to be rotated 90° clockwise.
Can this be fixed, or haven't I found the right app?
Just press the nook button and vol down button at the same time to take a screenshot.
I don't like the built-in method, I could never get it to take a screenshot without the notification volume displayed on the screen from pressing the vol - button. I use the ShootMe app for my screenshots.
As for the OP's question, I don't know if any app will take it in a vertical image, but you can easily rotate the screenshot on your phone with a number of apps. I use the free Adobe Photoshop mobile app.
How do I point Photoshop to my SD card?
When I use ShootMe, it saves the screenshot to the SD card in a folder called ShootMe, then when I open Photoshop, it just automatically shows up in the image gallery. They're easy to identify because they're sideways.
Yea, nothing shows up in Photoshop. And I can't tell bit where to look, even though the screen shots are on the root of the SD card
Is there any app that takes a properly oriented screen shot? I don't want to bother with rotating pics
Well, The app i use for screenshots is called "Screenshot" and i can say that personally
is the best screenshot app there is, and for rotating pics just use the app "QuickPic" which serves me as replacement for the stock Gallery app which sucks. QuickPic lets you rotate the pics, aswell with options to share with social apps. although you need to have Softkeys, or Button savior installed to access the menu button. Is not a hard process at all and the best of all is that both apps are free.
I don't have any problem using the built-in screenshot. To do it without getting the volume change on screen, hold down the N button and then press volume down. Works every time for me.

Thanks, where are images written to?
I'm pretty sure they go into a "screenshots" folder on the internal memory, not the SD card.
I used to be able to get screenshots using the stock method without the vol displayed, but I cannot anymore!
OK, just tried it with a very brief press of "n" & "vol-" & it worked fine.
I see /media/internal/ but no images show up.
I simply can't get the "easy way" to work! Maybe some sort of conflict with apps? I'm just using ADW and SoftKeys... this is driving me nuts
I just did the stock screenshot (N+VOL-) to verify, using root explorer, I am able to locate the screenshot in /media/Screenshots.
On a sidenote, I tried golfprorm's method of holding down the N button first and then clicking the VOL- button and I still got the "Notification Volume" image on the screenshot.
P.S. When you take a screenshot with the built-in feature, you should get a notification telling you "Screenshot captured" with a clickable link to the image.

I cannot get my Nook Color to take a screenshot using the stock method of hold the physical N-button + tap volume down. Could this have to do with the fact that I remapped my volume buttons to back and menu?
Yes, that would be the cause.
I also can't get the n+volume down method to work without showing the notification volume image on the screen shot. I also tried using the app called "screenshot" because I use this on my Incredible and it distorted the colors of the wallpaper to make it look all funky. Any ideas on why it would have done that? I'll try to post a pic here shortly to show you all what I mean...

Do you know of a work-around or should I just download a screenshot app?
I'm running CM7 and am trying to take a screenshot. The stock method does nothing, I'm assuming because of CM7.
I've tried both shootme and screenshot. For some reason, all the images from screenshot just show up as full black pictures with a VERY small ~2x6pixel white line along the left side and near the top. From shootme, they're just black. I've tried sending them to my DInc, but they look the same..
I've tried the following file types with corresponding file sizes on screenshot: .PNG 1.87k, .jpg 10.15k, and .bumper 2.34m.
Any thoughts?

How to get rid of "External Storage Inserted" Notification

It shows up on bottom right whenever SD card is inserted. How do i get rid of it? Kinda annoying to look at.
Don't think you can. I've been staring at it for 2 weeks! Maybe when some ROMs are available.
Yeah hopefully as the custom ROM scene matures the devs roll get rid of that and maybe the dock icon. There seems to be a lot of notification spam in ics/honeycomb...unless it's an Asus thing

Notifications come from apps only (some may be system ones, of course), since apps can call notifications. I suppose this external storage notification is called by ASUS tweaked app, since MicroSD was never notified on my old HTC Desire.
I'd like to know as well. Just received my Amazon 16gb sdcard today and I see the same thing when I inserted it.
Just to point out, Acer Iconia Tab A501 has that (extremely annoying) notification as well, both on stock and custom rom.
Probably an ICS thing then.
It's honeycomb/ics thing...been like that since the beginning

Stuff like this can surely be fixed in a ROM or a hack once bootloader is unlocked and your rooted. I don't "think" root alone can stop it. I looked in SystemUI and do not see the notification icon.
Is there any other way besides using a different ROM to hide the notification?
What I do is un-mount the sd card when not using it, but leave it in the slot. Then when I want to use it again I re-mount it...that way it is still stored in the slot. 2 quick pushes on the card make its data available again.
I kind of like it, it reminds me that my SD card has not fallen out of the drive.
Try this, and see if it works.
1. go to Settings -> Asus Customized Settings-> uncheck "Use ASUS Quick Setting" -> exit
2. Bring up the notification menu (tap bottom right corner where the time and wifi signal is) -> tap the settings button under the time -> Turn Notification off -> tap settings at the bottom -> go back to Asus Customized Settings and turn on the Quick Settings. -> Exit
I now do not have the docking icon or the external drive icon, only the time, wifi signal and the power icons.

Hey that works!
But doesn't that turn off system wide notifications?
I don't know. I was just "playing around" one day and came across it. I forgot about it until you brought it up. Sorry, I'm just a noob user like many people here.

Personally I prefer having it as well. I think it's probably just a design choice. A decision had to be made on weather to optimize this functionality for those who plug in the card and rarely if ever take it out vs those of us who are frequently pulling it out and putting it back in. If you are frequently removing it for use outside the prime, the notification is a good thing.
For example at work, I typically do not have my usb cable with me however I do have a card reader that will read my micro sd card from the prime or my SD card from the dock (the dock sd card has the notification too FYI). So when I want to transfer something to my prime, the easiest way is often to pull the card from the device and stick it in the computer. When getting ready to pull a card, the icons are a good reminder to tell me they are currently still mounted.
So I guess its a case of one man's annoyance is another man's feature. I happen to like it the way it is.
I didn't like it at first.. Then I lost a microsd card and I knew I had lost it because the icon had disappeared..

Odd behaviour

Have a look at the photo below. My SGS2 always does this on startup. Anyone else seen this on theirs?
Is your home button is sticky? I've never seen this happen except when I hold down the home button.

No it is all working perfectly. By the way I am not referring to the Task Manager coming up but to the dock buttons changing icon/app.
Might be something to do with the phone scanning the SD Card on start up for icon images, if you've set a custom icon for the apps in the dock.
Try to install everything again, maybe work.

Oh, actually that happens every time I boot as well but it always corrects itself within 30 seconds or so.

Well that looks like stock touchwiz, so the icons can't be custom.
If what you mean is that he may have set custom apps then you might be right. If the apps that were wet are on SD, they might not be available when booting so it will pick some random ones.

Phone is completely stock. Usual "Phone", Contacts", "Messaging" and "applications" icons appear after about 30 seconds as is said above. None of these are on the SD card. It just strikes me as odd that they change and always to the same apps.
I also have the same issue, noticed it started happening only after I put exDialer and exContacts previously before reverting to stock Phone and Contacts. Haven't found a solution.

[Q] App shortcut keeps removing itself from folders...

Hey! I have Grand Theft Auto III installed to my SD card as it seems to not crash as often and alleviates space on my internal storage. I store the shortcut for it in a folder on both my home page and app drawer called Games. Every time I restart the phone, the shortcut removes itself from the folder on my home page and puts itself outside of the same folder on my app drawer. Does anyone know why this happens, and if there's something I can do to rectify it? It's only a minor annoyance, but would be nice if I didn't have to keep putting it back in the folders every time I reboot the phone. I have since moved it back to internal storage, and it's resolved the problem, however, I would prefer it to be on my external SD!
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks
James
I had the exact same problem, but it was Go Launcher EX who was guilty of that. This still happens to me, so i just take the folders that are created in the app drawer and drag them to home screen. Now it doesn't happen.
I say again, don't add folder by Menu button>Add>Folder instead go to appdrawer (in your case it will show folders and not apps) drag one of the folder to homscreen and voila!
Maybe this isn't the solution to your problem but as i interpreted it this should be the solution. It worked for me atleast
Regards.
