[REQ] Remove the earphone icon and "Recommended shortcuts" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

On the GS3 you could freeze the "Context Aware Service". I can't find anything directly related to this on the GS4. I have never once thought about opening one of those stupid apps after plugging in earphones... seriously, Reddit is Fun and Root Explorer? Titanium Backup? Why? Why would I need headphones for those? And I don't need an icon to tell me I have earphones plugged in as I can plainly see them.

I agree.. Would love be to able to remove this.
But for now just freeze the PageBuddyNotiSvc 1.0 in Titanium Backup.

I posted this in another forum, but here's what you can do:
You can remove the suggested apps when you plug headphones in with Nova Launcher. Create a new shortcut, Activities -> Settings -> Page Buddy. You can turn it off with that shortcut and it will stay off in the stock launcher as well.

This worked for me. Doing just what you want and a whole lot more. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956

If you go into application manager, find the recommended shortcuts app, and uncheck "receive notifications" it no longer shows up. It worked for me.

Mine does the same thing. The android OS is killing it because it is not running in the foreground. The only solutions I've read about so far are to download another equalizer until google fixes it. The app in the play store 'equalizer' appears to be a pretty good one. You can set it to only have the notification when it sees you listen to music. When you close Play Music, the notification goes away. It worked for me.

[Q] GBooks & car mount

1. I recently updated to 2.3.6. While on .4, I was able to rename the Google Books apk using ES File Manager and it removed the app. Now nothing will remove it. How do I get rid of it, short of installing a custom ROM? And yes, I am rooted.
2. I have the Samsung car mount. I used to have the Droid Charge, and had the Samsung car mount for that one as well. On the Charge, using the mount would turn the homescreen sideways. The SGSII mount doesn't. Any way to enable this?

Have you tried Titanium Backup? How come you haven't yet heard of it since December?

Do you use a custom Launcher? If so does your custom Launcher force the screen to stay in portrait. I don't own a dock but I never had any issue changing the homescreen to landscape mode on Go Launcher without a dock. To add more convenience.. you could probably use Llama to configure your phone the way you want when the dock is connected.

3. And lastly, someone mentioned setting the default Android car dock app to launch when the phone is docked. Where would I get this app from, and how would I set it to launch when docked instead of the Vlingo app?

Llama would be the answer to this again. There could be something better than Llama for the thing you want to do. But as I have never used dock, I can't say for sure.

1. Titanium backup as the previous user stated
2. Use a different launcher like launcher pro or go launcher, the built in touch wiz launcher does not support landscape mode (although it does support landscape lockscreen)
3. Uninstall the vlingo app with titanium backup and install a new version in the market (the installed one is ooollldd) You will find way more features like a widget that will help you. Not sure where the default setting is though.
Just as an extra note, I absolutely love putting my phone in portrait mode instead of landscape when driving. It lets you see more of whats coming up when using gps, notifications appear normally (instead of only 2 at a time when landscape, and GPS sensor aiding is more accurate.
TiBu doesn't work because GBooks doesn't show up in the list. Edit: Shows up in uninstalled apps in Market. I can't find the icon anymore. I guess the problem fixed itself.
Nope, running the stock launcher. It's weird that the Charge was able to rotate the homescreen. I'm guessing it has something to do with 2.3?
And the Vlingo app doesn't show up in TiBu either, unless it's under a different name.
Additional question: I remember there being a list of all the stock apps that show up in TiBu, saying whether each one could be uninstalled and what detrimental effects it would have. It might've been for the Charge, though. Does that exist for the SGS2?
It's been a while since I saw Google Books on my phone. It should be named just "Books" in app list in TB. Or just use search in TB.

Folder is open... Folder is closed... Annoying!

Somehow this feature got turned on where my phone tells me when a folder is open and folder is closed. I looked int he S Voice settings and Phone settings. Can't find how to turn it off.
Please... someone help... this is agony...
Did you install Light Flow?
Uninstall it then, it is a bug in that one

I found a way, just go to Apllication manager,Select All,then disable Samsung TTS. That should work perfectly(it did for me).

It's to do with Apps that go through the Accessibility library. Sony's SmartWatch App does the same thing for me: randomly activating the "folder are open..." bug. I did some searching online and it seems to be an issue with Google's OS (I was more concerned with a solution than technically understanding the problem).
I have just disabled Samsung's TTS in the hope that it does indeed kill this problem off for me (thanks for the suggestion!). However, my short-term fix that has had a 100% success rate so far has been to clear the cache of the Google TTS engine (not the Samsung one). That eliminates the problem, but it doesn't stop it from coming back. I am reluctant to deactivate the google TTS because of Navigation App use. I am hoping disabling the Samsung TTS will stop it coming back without disabling too much TTS features on the phone.
A common trigger for this is also the use of the LiteFlow App. In spite of some comments you may read, I don't think it's a bug in the App, I think it just triggers the issue in the OS, giving you the "folders are open" problem.
I personally would love a simple App that routinely clears the cache for any/all TTS Engines as soon as they become a non-zero state. For my specific issues, that might eliminate the problem without me disabling any Engines (which I figure are there for a reason). If anyone finds such an App, please post notice here.
Happy 2013 to all

2 Small Issues

I'm experiencing two small issues with my HTC One. I'll say up front that it is stock and running the latest OTA from T-Mobile. I'm holding off on rooting as long as possible.I can say that after owning so many phones I haven't ran into issues this simple that I haven't been able to fix.
Issue #1: Homescreen
Whenever I download an app from the Play Store, it automatically adds an icon to the homescreen. Whether I'm using the stock launcher, Nova or Action Launcher. Of course I've already unchecked the box in the Play Store settings, that usually stops the icons from showing up. Unfortunately that doesn't work. I've cleared the cache and app settings for the play store and unchecked the auto add widgets box again, and still I'm getting icons.
This isn't a big issue, just a minor annoyance.
Issue #2: Gmail notifications
After updating to the newest gmail from the app store, my gmail notifications have stopped. I've tried unchecking then checking the notifications box and nothing changes. I've tried clearing app data and cache and nothing. I've tried uninstalling and using the old version and my notifications work again. But once I update to the new one again, they stop. Has anyone experienced this?

For number one there is a setting in the Play store. Deselect Auto-add widgets from the play store settings.

Thanks Steve, but I've done that. That's what has me confused. I've Deselected that box, but it still puts them on my homescreens.

Hmm, I don't have them on my home screens after install. I'll have to think about it. I recall that this setting is what stopped it for me.
Shot in the dark, but if you're using Nova Launcher it also has the same setting that can be toggled. Threw me off for a bit.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
Issue 1: If you're running nova launcher their is a new option in settings that installs apps on homepage. Just toggle that off.
Issue 2 : Go ..settings> accounts & sync > Google.... And make sure gmail is checkered. Also make sure you have background data enabled. Also make sure you are not in power saver mode.

Mate 10 Pro - Bluetooth Audio Stops when screen switched off

Hi,
Mate 10 Pro user here.
When I play audio via Bluetooth to my car or headphones, after the screen switches off the audio stops.
When I switch the screen back on the audio starts back up.
Any ideas? Seems like some power optimisation, but I can't find anywhere to fix it.
Tia
Which player are you using? It sounds like the 'phone is killing your (presumably non-stock) music player.

None of these are by default allowed to run in the background (thank Huawei's rather vicious power management system), which would explain why they're being killed as soon as the system thinks you're no longer using them.
Go to Settings -> Battery -> Launch and switch whichever player you want to use to "manage manually," and leave all three manual settings set to "on" (or in the very least, leave the "run in background" option enabled).
This should then allow your preferred media player to continue running in the background after the screen locks.

To tell you the truth, I was getting ready to try to sell my Mate 10 when it was three days old, because the power saving features are so intrusive.
As time has progressed though, I've learnt to embrace its idiosyncrasies and am now very happy with it all 'round.
Just one more point which I'm sure you'll encounter sooner rather than later - if you need an app to consistently run in the background (for example, Tasker or an e-mail client), you'll want to tell the Mate 10 to allow it to do so;
Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Apps -> Settings (the cog at the bottom of the screen) -> Special Access -> Battery Optimisation
... then set your critical apps to "Don't Optimise."
Until I did this for K9 Mail and Tasker, I was only getting notification updates when I unlocked the 'phone, which more often than not was a couple of hours after I was sent an urgent e-mail.

First, what is app trash? Never heard of it. On Google Play, I see some silly app uninstaller called Trash for Apps. Is that what you are talking about? This is nothing that comes with LG phones.
Second, if you uninstall any app, it's gone. What is it you want to see after you uninstall an app? I don't understand. Do you NOT really want to uninstall it? Then don't uninstall it. If you uninstall it, it's gone. If you want it back, then reinstall it.
Third, in Nova launcher app drawer, I just long press an app and choose uninstall. It's gone. Or I can go into the Apps section and uninstall there.
Fourth, in Nova launcher, if I just want to remove an icon from desktop (but not uninstall the app), I just long press and click remove. That doesn't uninstall the app, it just removes the icon from the home screen. IF I want to put it back or move it elsewhere, I put another shortcut to desktop from app drawer. I assume most launchers work in similar fashion. If THIS functionality is what you are talking about, that's NOT deleting (uninstalling) an app. You are merely wanting to remove a SHORTCUT of the app from the desktop.
You need to explain more, because I really have no idea what you are talking about. And you use lots of exclamation points like we should totally understand.
that's what i'm talking about, it's specific to LG phones and yes, sometimes i need to uninstall for some reasons

Interesting. I have never seen that or used it. Yeah, it's only in Management folder on one of my US998 because I haven't yet installed Nova launcher on that phone. I hate LG stock skin and usually change it as fast as possible to Nova launcher with my own app drawer organization and icon packs.
Well, it says "apps will be permanently deleted after being in the trash for 24 hours." Maybe it means 24 seconds.
Since I only uninstall apps I really want to uninstall, I don't know what to tell you.
Are you trying to temporarily uninstall something but then want it back?
consider it like 'hiding' apps lol, my phone is shared and i keep installing/uninstalling... it's very useful for me I hope I can find a fix or I will have to revert back to Nougat

You can always root your phone and install private spaces no one can see. I hear teens in school have hidden apps and stuff that way.

how does it supposed to work? You drag the app you are deleting over the trash icon or something?

Deleted one and nothing in that folder. Never tried to use it before this, so I don't know.
In Nova launcher if u long press an app in the app drawer you can hide it. (Long press until menu shows up > edit > untick the box that says apps)
