[Q] SGP312 can root or not? - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my friend is going to get the 32g wifi version SGP312, his concern is if it can root or not.
I am confused as someone said it can root but someone said it can't
e.g http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41984460&postcount=2953 <----someone fail to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2289978 <----- the guy can root
Anyone can confirm if SGP312 can ? How about SGP311? Thanks.
btw, firmware 353 can root without unlock BL?

@BADBOY1412, thanks for your reply. Your SGP312 is Japanese version(SGP312JP) or US or other version?

I didn't think you could downgrade with a locked bootloader? I cannot unlock my bootloader either.

but it does not matter, you can flash firmware with a ftf extension that you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 with flash tool

Yep you can root with the method in this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792 and then you flash to 4.0.2.A.62 firmware again with flash tool or over the air (OTA) on your phone

There's also a pre-rooted .62 packed inside a flashable .zip somewhere among the hundreds of tutorials floating around, just make sure you look hard enough, I don't have the link handy at the moment.
Unlock your bootloader and get pre-rooted kernels to avoid this kind of problems.
BTW why not just go with ICS? mine's been running fine with it.
It says no proper root access.
Rooted on .58 successfully, updated to .62 but now it is no longer rooted.

Just posting in order to confirm this. It worked flawlessly on my XMP.
Please note that your phone will be LAGGING LIKE HELL until you run the second script. This is normal, so don't panic

Stock 4.0.3r5a is not rootable. Anticipating your next questions: Your tablet must already be rooted to install pre-rooted 4.0.3r5a. You cannot install or downgrade to an earlier rootable release.

I can't help thinking there's got to be an opening somewhere. After all, how else can Sony's engineers reflash a damaged or corrupted system?
I guess it requires a level of access not available to ordinary users, though. What a PITA....
They can sign the zip offically so a reflash for repairs shouldn't be an issue for them I would think

I have a Sony tab s SGPT111, and unfortunately like most, stuck on the ICS 4.0.3 release 5a, no root, such tab with no root, will it finally be a solution as soon as possible, and if possible I would like to know technically what this release 5a locks in this tab, the recovery? but how? and is it reversible, or if we lose any hope ...
plzzzzz, solution, solution, solution ....

[Q] Root Sony Xperia Z Tablet - Android 4.3

Hi all,
I have Sony Xperia Z Tablet which I want to gain root access for.
Device details:
Model number: SGP311
16GB
Android 4.3
Build Number: 10.4.B.0.577
Not sure if relevant, but the tablet was bought in USA.
I'm pretty much a newbe here, so I would like, if possible, to get a link for a simple tutorial how to root my device.
10'x!
If only there was a search button...

Hi Felimenta97,
Thanks for your reply.
I have seen the post you've linked here before I've posted my question (I definitely know how to use the search option ) but its seemed somewhat complicated/Indirect way compare to the simple ways of rooting I'm used to from my 2 other devices (SGS3, Nexus 4)
Is there any simpler/straightforward way?
Thanks in advance!

Nope. There is no current exploit in 4.3 Sony firmware. So, you either unlock your bootloader, or do that process.
Wait till 4.4!
If I was you, I'd wait till KitKat upgrade comes out! after that I'd root my tablet

You think it might do the work?

Isn't that almost always the case with updates?
Anyway, has anyone tried to root this tablet on 4.3 with Kingo App or VROOT?
10'x all for your help!

I tried with VROOT, but seems like there's no update yet. Was researching about 4.3 root methods, there a few, most of them you have to go back to 4.2 and then upgrade, but a direct root, no, I haven't found one yet :good:

Can I get stock Marshmallow on Moto E UK?

As title really, can't really find a definitive answer.
It was a UK Tesco handset but unlocked to all, and still running the standard Moto stock firmware.
Any help would be appreciated.
