[Q] Verizon after Page Plus - Data, but no Phone - HTC Rezound

Have a Rezound. Was flashed to Page Plus with it, but was sick of 1x speed, so I decided to go over to Verizon. Upgraded to a new phone (not the Rezound), but then decided I didn't like it enough to commit for 2 years. I would like my Rezound to work on Verizon, but so far, it isn't.
I did an RUU restore because one page said that would undo everything that flashing had done. I used the 4.03.605.2 710RD one.
Then I tried to activate. I got 4g to work, but I can't make any phone calls or send any texts. I took it to a local Verizon store where the guy spent about an hour on the phone with his tech support, replaced the SIM card, and tried a bunch of stuff before telling me the problem was the software version. He said the problem was the software number: 4.03.605.2 710RD. He said that isn't supported and that the guy on the phone had never heard of it. I'm currently downloading a different RUU, but I have serious doubts as to whether or not that will resolve anything.
Any ideas? I'd just like to get this phone Verizon compatible again.
Thanks. And I will be grateful and post if something is or isn't successful.

If you've run the latest RUU and it's updated HBOOT and radios...boot the phone into bootloader and perform a factory reset via HBOOT menu. It doesn't make sense but it seems to solve some radio issues.

THANK YOU!

I don't know what to say. It worked. Phone is working fully with Verizon again. That was so stupid-easy. I am truly shocked. THANK YOU! I really, really, really appreciate your help.
Really, thank you again.

[Q] HTC EVO 3D Hboot 1.50 (can we downgrade)

I just got the HTC EVO 3D, and like a tard I updated everything not really paying attention to updating system updates. Well I updated to Hboot 1.5...
Is there a way to flash back or RSD back to stock firmware and software? Or am I screwed until they come up with a way to root at hboot 1.50
Thanks for the info in advance.

Unfortunately no, there isn't a way to downgrade. HTC makes it so you can't downgrade the bootloader (unless you were S-off). The RUU would error out at the bootloader, and tell you 'main version older' or something like that. You could use the HTC 'unlock' method and flash a recovery, but you'd still be S-on, and won't be able to flash kernels. If I were in your situation, I'd probably just hang tight for a little while and wait and see if revolutionary gets updated (because it's said that they're in the process of working on the 1.5hboot).
Yeah I just ran thru the HTC Dev unlock already. Back everything up, and flashed the recovery. I think I will try out the cleanrom for now and see if anything happens. I been up too long and I am delirious lol. Thank you for your reply. Hopefully I didn't screw anything else up hah.

RSD is a Motorola term. Just putting it out there. For HTC, it's called an RUU.

Just an Update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224781
Here is an update on unlocked bootloader for 1.50 Hboot.
Confirmed it says unlocked, but seems to be some issues with s-on s-off. I was able to get recovery flashed. Now I am trying to flash cleanrom atm. As we speak booting to cleanrom. Booted...no issues thus far. Running great. Now I will try a different kernel and see if that works.
I am having a hard time with getting my voicemails sent to my evo3d as a notification for a new message.. this has been a prob for sometime now and I've always just thought that I never had ne voicemails or perhaps I haven't set up my voicemail account right or at all just yet when come to find out yesterday I had 33 msgs exceeding my inbox n lost em all.. never once had I got the notifications or alerts for any of em though. Can any one assist me in fixing this issue please? I've alrdy tried calling CricKet and having them reset my voicemail services n that didn't seem to werk either. So far that's as far as I got. Also, I can't seem to get the thumbnail photos of my contacts to show in the messaging app or whatever, not even as i am in the current conversation with sumone.. it just shows the blank pic. And they show in my contacts book/app just fine. How do I go about fixing this as well? Thanks in advance.. oh yea lemme give yu detail on my phones details to further help with the assistance. I am currently running "joeykrim's original 1.2.0 Odex" ROM which I had gottn off ROM Manager and flashed over using TWRP's 1.3 Recovery .. I might also add that i am with CricKet's slow ass service running on PRL #45512 in Colorado. And yes this ROM is the latest updated version of 2.3.4... If need more info or even a descent screenshot of my settings or info on device and image of the problems I'm having I can also provide upon request..
Sorry if this ain't the place for this question but I have searched evrywhere n did my part in th research n read rule alrdy n have found nuthn what so ever related to my concerns so please don't gimme the ol look around speech please... Thanks much in advance .. KaeDee. Please email me @ [email protected] or contact me private message with helpful or useful info thanks again..

Nah we were in this situation for awhile with the Incredible. Nand unlock or s-off lets you flash radios and hboot. . It also sticks through most updates for instance those who had s-off before the 1.5 update are able to go back if they want and are able to root without using htc unlock.
what you get with the htc unlock is a permanent root that allows custom recovery and roms. not sure about kernels as I have read conflicting posts. as always your best bet is to read up in the forums before accepting any updates from htc.
any updates fellow members security -off for the new hboot version ?

I unlocked through the HTC unlock . Its correct that it doesnt allow you to get S-Off , but from my expierence flashing on the 3D is as follows . If you enter fastboot through CMD screen and fire up recovery through CMD it flashes everything . I have flashed several different roms in the past week . Boot animations change , Kernels change everything changes . Now I have not tried to flash radios and so forth . That may still be locked out I am not sure from personal expierence . I only went the HTC unlock way , mainly due to getting a new job and now getting a discount through verizon . I may (Keyword MAY) jump ship to Verizon only due to coverage issues and the Droid Prime . For the time being the coverage issues I can deal with . Also most of my family is on verizon . But back to the main point . Most of the functions that I had with S-Off I am still able to do as long as I start up recovery through CMD prompt . I have a feeling HTC did this intentionally . My theories on it is , by forcing users to go through the command promt . It "kinda" weeds out the users that know what they are doing from the ones that don't. Yes its easy to get around it and now isnt so much a problem to flash through cmd and most anyone will eventually find the way to do so . But that is how the internet works , information is passed even faster than before and like all information . The ones who really shouldnt mess with it will get access to it and others who know what they are doing have it . When I mean by users that shouldnt have access I mean the ones who have no clue what a Kernel is and just flash things to flash things and end up with a nice paperweight . Im by no means a hardcore hacker or power user , but I do spend several nights reading as much as I can and asking the correct questions before I proceed with anything on my phone since its my only form of communication (no home phone).
I unfortunately dropped my phone this last weekend and shattered the screen. I still have it (probably for only another day) and it still works. Is there any way to use this rooted, s-off, busted phone to get s-off on my new phone that came installed with 1.5?

All that's required is that you have access to torq drivers, and have careful hands to handle ribbon cables, and youre good to go! But being 3D when u replace the screen it's not just the glass digitizer, its a whole unit and I think its even easier to replace
What is this?

It's yousefAK....duh....
I will call balderdash on this, as he only made a video of the GUI, which could easily be cobbled together in about 20 min. The video was uploaded over a month ago (Oct 1), and is "in development". I'm thinking the exploit referred in the description either:
A. Never existed
B. Didn't work like the vid owner anticipated
Even the yousefAK offers this response, from 3 weeks ago (around Oct 21):
"Use HTC's unlock and flash TWRP 1.1. Then flash the SU files and you have permanent root. The only thing is that you will have to flash kernels through fastboot"

Evo3D OTA and Cricket

I flashed my Sprint 3D to Cricket and received an HTC notification to OTA to ICS.
For some reason the HTC unlock method will not work me, I am stuck on GB stock, and although I know I can Hboot downgrade and Revolutionary or RUU to GB stock again, I am not feeling adventurous enough to "brick" my phone today or want to deal with a RUU.
I have a QPST profile saved in case the radio update affects my CDMA settings, and would have no problems just rewriting the info to phone, but I'd like to see if anyone has accepted an OTA from HTC in this way on a flashed HTC phone and what the outcome was. There is not much about this online!

[Q] Can't Get S-OFF with Wire Trick!

Hi everyone,
I'm really hoping someone can help me with getting my E3D S-off with the wire trick. Even though I've been a member on this site for a couple years, I never really did much on here because I haven't done much with my phone until now. So, I'm hoping that being a newbie, someone can help me...
Long story short, I've been waiting patiently until the official ICS update from Sprint to be able to root my phone and finally install a custom ROM without all the Sprint bloatware and finally have a clean, stock ICS ROM on my phone. For the past two days I've been trying to do the wire trick by following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813818
It's just that my phone will NOT let me do it! I've successfully unlocked the bootloader on hboot 1.58 and rooted the phone with superuser. When I go to do the wire trick, after running JuopunutBear's Wire Trick, all I get is to the point where it says "Seconday Backup FAILED at Beginning!!" and just exits the program.
I've literally done everything. I read that it's caused by a custom ROM or having HTC Sync installed on my PC. The ROM I have is the stock Sprint ICS 4.0 ROM that was installed by the RUU. I've wiped my SD card and even used two other cards, and it STILL won't work. I have no idea what to do anymore. After two days of having a blank phone, I've just about given up. I know there's gotta be a way to do it, but I just can't figure it out. I can't find anything regarding this problem from anyone else on this site or anywhere on Google. People say they had the problem and it fixed itself, but I can't get past it. Can someone please help? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You should try flashing a stock GINGERBREAD ROM. The thing with JuopunutBear is that you need crucial files from GB. Unless they updated it, I may be wrong.
Instead of flashing an RUU, look for a full stock ROM for your phone.
Then it should work perfectly.
I did it on my GSM EVO 3D, but there was a better guide on here for it, however, it's gone now.
I wish you luck, comment back if it doesn't work.
I actually restored the original RUU which didn't work, and then flashed the PG86IMG.zip file for the ICS ROM and that didn't work either. I've gone through all the steps of unlocking and rooting multiple times, and it still gives me that backup message. I have no idea what else to do.
Also, the phone is new - Sprint replaced it under warranty for me because the bezel of my old one was coming loose which they said is a common problem, so they swapped it out with a fresh one for me. The only thing I can think of is maybe that daemon message I get when I start the fastboot? It says something like "Daemon not started. Starting on port 5037." Does the port have anything to do with it?
I'm gonna try flashing a stock Gingerbread ROM now. I'm downloading the 2.17.651.5 release - I think that's the official Gingerbread update from Sprint. I'll post back soon - thanks for your help.

Make sure you watch the screen on the phone until the prompts for superuser have appeared and been approved. Also, have you read through the JuopunutBear thread in the stickies of the development forum? There's a lot of information in there and a link to a good video by zedomax, and if that isn't enough to get you through it you can get some live help by logging into the IRC channel from the support page on the unlimited.io website.

I appreciate the help so far. I tried returning to a stock Gingerbread ROM to do the S-off trick since they thought maybe it had something to do with files from Gingerbread that weren't in the ICS ROM, but the phone won't let me do it. Running the official RUU fails and says it can't update the software, and trying to flash the PG86IMG.zip from the bootloader just ignores it - I boot the phone, it spends five minutes loading and checking, then just goes back to the menu. I read you can't flash an older firmware update over a newer one unless you have S-off, but since that's what I'm trying to get at, that obviously won't work.
So, I gave up and flashed the official RUU for ICS and it flashed fine and put me back at the stock Sprint software. Unlocked bootloader, rooted and tried the S-off again, and got the same problem. I'm giving up on it for the night but I'll research the stickies tomorrow at work and see what I can find and if anyone else might have had this problem. I don't feel like accepting the fact that there's no way to get S-off on this phone. Seems everyone else had no problems.
Thanks again for all your help so far!

JuopunutBear will work fine with the Sprint ICS 2.89 build installed, but make sure you use the version designed for that build.

Okay cool, just let me know. Thanks.
So I figured I would update on this but I'm sure no one really cares.
I FINALLY got S-off using the wire trick by installing a quick custom ROM and trying the process again. For some reason the guide I used said to use the stock untouched ROM but it didn't work for me, even though everyone else seems to have had luck.
So, after flashing a ROM quick through ext4 worked for me, and I flashed CoolROM with Sense 4.1. Looks good, but there's no 4G. I get full 4G coverage where I live, so I'm gonna kind of miss that. I was originally looking for a clean stock ICS ROM without Sense, but when I said this with Sense 4.1 I figured I'd give it a shot. Does anyone know of a stable ROM with working 4G and everything else? The whole reason I decided to root and get S-off was to finally remove all the Sprint bloatware, so I want a clean ROM. If anyone knows of a good ROM, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

[Q] Can someone help me with rooted phone not getting service please?

Hello,
I purchased a used Evo 3D for my wife and while I am familiar with rooting and modding on the Galaxy S3 (my phone) I am not familiar with the Evo 3D. My wife has not been able to get data services on her phone without being on WiFi since buying the phone. She took it to Sprint to get looked at and apparently they said the guy that owned it prior flashed it and flashed something wrong on the device so the radio is messed up. What is the best process to take this phone back to stock modem, firmware, etc.? Or is there a radio I can flash on her phone to make it work? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That depends on what he flashed. Do you get a Virgin Mobile logo when you boot the phone?
You can try my root and S-OFF guide and stop after Step1 if you don't care about root and S-OFF, but if the Virgin Mobile firmware was flashed by the previous owner you will need to go through a separate process to clean that up before the phone will be back to Sprint stock.

No there isn't a virgin mobile sign when powered on. It looks and acts stock and being someone that roots and flashes roms on my phone, I never even thought that this could be the issue.

If you can flash the RUU to get it back to 100% stock and data still doesn't work, then call Sprint and have them do manual provisioning of the data services. Based on what you've said so far, it sounds like voice calls are working OK?

Yea her voice calls and text messages work. Just apps (and the internet itself) that require data will not work. Is there a certain requirement for going back to stock? From what I am reading, hBoot comes into play and what not. I don't have to deal with hBoot on my phone so I am not familiar with it.

Is the phone rooted now? If so you will need to relock the bootloader, otherwise you can just flash the RUU.exe from Windows. You can check the current status by holding the VolumeDown+Power buttons until the bootloader appears.
It might be worth a call to Sprint to see if they have provisioned the data services properly before doing that. You could even go to the "Settings/System updates" from the main menu and try updating profile and prl from there before calling. The reason I recommended flashing the RUU is because Sprint told you the prior owner had flashed incorrect firmware, but that could be bad information.

I am flashing the RUU now. Will this put the radio/firmware/etc back to how the phone came? She was never able to update PRL or Profile and that is where the problem originated. We purchased the phone, activated it, and in order to provision it Sprint had us attempt the profile and PRL updates which would both fail. Sprint tech (that physically looked at it) said it had been flashed with a bad radio and that is why the phone would not accept the profile and PRL updates. I am hoping this RUU file will fix everything. I did check and the phone was not rooted (via root checker app) and when I went into the bootloader, it said the phone was s-on.
I just finished flashing the RUU. The kernel, baseband, and build all stayed the same and it still gives me an error when attempting to update the profile or PRL saying that the phone cannot access data services. Do I need to try flashing another radio at this point?
I am completely at a loss here because I found a list of all radios for this phone and she has the only one that has been released for ICS. The baseband on her phone matches the listing for the ICS radio. So I don't see how she has a bad radio. Would the kernel affect it any? Just trying to get this phone working.

If you flashed the current RUU she has the correct radio and other firmware, and Sprint can verify that. As I said in my previous post, they may have given you incorrect information, but now that you flashed the RUU and are 100% stock you can all Sprint (*2) and ask them to make sure your data services are provisioned correctly.

She doesn't even have a standard recovery for me to try a radio fix I saw in another post. When I go into recovery there is an error on the bottom of the screen (relating to some sort of file) and it won't let me click on anything. And I can't try to flash the PG86IMG.zip because from what I understand you have to be s-off. When I boot up into the bootloader it is looking for the PG86IMG.zip but says it isn't present. does that matter? How can I get the recovery back if she isn't rooted and she is s-on?
EDIT: The error is "E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command"

If you flashed the RUU.exe you should have the stock recovery installed and not get errors when you boot into recovery. I honestly can't remember what the stock recovery looks like when you boot into it, but I think it has a triangle or some other graphic in the midde of the screen.
Also, if the RUU.exe completed successfully you should have the correct radio and firmware so there would be no need to flash anything else. Firmware, including radio, can only be updated by flashing an RUU if you are S-ON, since updating it from the bootloader requires S-OFF.
It sounds like your RUU flash may not have been complete if you are getting errors booting into recovery. Can you take a picture using your other phone of the bootloader screen and what you get when you try to boot recovery and post it here as attachments?

Go to "manage attachments" under additional options below the post icons. Click on that and it will allow you to attach the picture you took on your other phone if you hook it to your computer as "USB storage".

Ok. I will look into that today. I gave up last night. It got late and I was getting frustrated. Thank you for your help so far.

Come to find out it is a lot easier on my phone app. Here is a pic. Hope it is big enough. I chose the smaller option for the pic.

Yup, that's the stock recovery. Not sure why you are getting that error, though.
Your best bet might be to go to the htcdev.com website and get the unlock token and flash it, then flash a custom recovery and see if you can boot from the bootloader into that. That's all included in step 2 of my guide. You don't need to flash SuperSU if you don't want root, but at least you can see if 4EXT recovery will boot without errors.
Here's a thread in the Android Q&A section where someone had the same error on another HTC phone and solved it by flashing a custom recovery. It sounds to me like there might be something wrong with the physical partitions on your phone.
Can you boot into the stock ICS ROM successfully? If so, it might still be worth a call to Sprint to see if they can activate your wife's data services manually.

We have called many times prior to taking her phone to the Sprint store for someone to look at.

[Q] Evo 3d flashing issue with 2.95/activation not working

Hi guys,
2.95, hboot 1.58
I have a Sprint device that I moved to Ting and I can't get it activated. My Evo3d was a launch day phone and I have owned it the whole time without issues until now.
The problem is that the PRL/Profile simply will not update even when I manually enter the MDN and MSID. I'm trying to flash a stock rom to my phone as Ting suggested but I am having quite a bit of trouble. I have gone through the HTC dev tools and I have S-On (unlocked). However, I simply cannot manage to get any ruu to flash over as it always fails with error code 155 or 140. I'm getting really quite frustrated and due to the nature of Ting being a MVNO they don't exactly have anywhere I can stop in and get help at. I must be doing something wrong but I can't figure out what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: I have also tried putting a PG86IMG.zip directly onto the sd card and updating that way without success.

Okay, I successfully got Negalite blu-rom on the phone but I still cannot update PRL/profile or activate.
edit: Now I appear to have overwritten my stock backup. I could really use help here if anyone can point out how I can get back to a stock configuration. I obviously suck at this.
You can find the stock 2.89 rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420206&highlight=stock
This is rooted obviously.
If you want to ruu, you need to flash this first in recovery:http://db.tt/hiENKUvK
Then lock the bootloader and run the latest available ruu for 2.89.

Brian,
Thanks for the reply. I actually figured out my issue. I sent Ting the correct ESN when porting my phone and numbers over and somehow when Sprint ported my information they supplied the wrong ESN to Ting. I even called Sprint when I could not activate and they told me the correct ESN over the phone but when I checked with Ting on a whim it was different by only 3 digits with the last digit being identical...talk about easy to miss. Once this was corrected I was able to activate. I am super happy with the Nagalite rom I am running and I like it much better than stock so I am fine with sticking with it right now
Awesome! Glad you got it figured out thanks for letting us know what the problem was!
