TWRP - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does TWRP recovery work for our tablet? If so can we simply install using Goo manager?

Do you see a flashable zip or the tablet listed under supported devices? Where do you see anything about it? A better question might be whether it exists.

eh....if i saw that then I would know it does...
but i dont even know where the list of supported devices is? do you have a link?
because normally, on my other devices, i just use goo manager, and hit install from there
I have goo manager on my tablet now, but was just wondering before i try it and it bricks it or something
searched this forum and no talk of TWRP so was checking if it exists

Any way at all to get adb push/pull/remount working?

I just realized that I can't run adb push/pull/root/remount on my rooted Vibrant.
adb shell and su works fine. After Googling, I found that it's not sufficient to root the phone, but the boot image or recovery image has to be changed as well.
I use adb because it's much faster to type on the desktop and it's faster than using something like root explorer to move files around. I could do it in multiple steps of copying files to sdcard and then pull/push from there. But it's a real pain.
I didn't try it, but I expect it will work if I go into recovery. But that's even slower and completely defeats the purpose of using adb in the first place.
Anyone find a way around this? G1 with Amon Ra's recovery and cyanogen mod have really spoilt me.
Thanks

Have you installed a custom recovery like Koush's recovery that can be done from Rom Manager?
Oh hai.

By that I presume that I'll have to boot into recovery and then be able to get root access with adb. Right? If so, no, I haven't done that. As I said, the reason I like adb is that it's so much easier and faster to to do it from the computer. If I have to reboot the phone into recovery to push and pull files, I might as well just do it over the phone or indirectly via the sdcard. In which case, I have lost the reason to use adb in the first place.
I can push/pull just fine here...
If you have not installed Clockwork Recovery that might be it. I would recommend checking in development section. Maybe you did not install the SDK and Drivers properly. It's all covered in Development.

I do have Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.4. And I think my SDK and drivers are up to date. I can pull/push into the emulator and my G1 (running Cyanogen Mod). Just not into the Vibrant.
When you say that you can pull/push just fine, do you mean when the phone is running normally or when you boot into recovery mode. I haven't tested whether I can do the latter since it's no point rebooting to transfer files. Also, are you running the stock rooted ROM? I don't want to install a custom ROM yet on the Vibrant. I haven't yet seen the need for doing so.
I had posted this in development section, but looks like the mods moved it to Q&A. I think it was right for the dev forum.

What's next?

Hello there;
First of all I rooted my phone using Doomslayers rooting kit, I did get a superuser icon however...
I can't find the 'busybox' any idea where this is?
Also how do I get free games/apps/etc?
You should state you device, or even better, post you question in the device specific subforum - then everybody knows what you are talking about
Congrats on rooting your phone. its an adventure, next part of your magical journey of using your phone to the fullest is to download clockwork mod and eventually a custom rom. Most custom roms will install busybox for you. Most roms will also come with cool apps that are usually not available on out of the box phones e.g. free tethering! Enjoy!
For games/apps you will be looking for APK, simply put them in your devices then using any File Manager click on it then install it. Thats it.
And congrats

Help flashing Xoom

Hi all,
Hopefully this is something fairly simple to answer, but my dilemma is that I want to flash a different ROM onto my wifi Xoom. I understand the basic process (I flashed the ROM on my old HTC Hero several times), but have been running into trouble on the Xoom and I think it boils down to the fact that Recovery Mode can't mount my SD card. I assume by SD card it means internal storage, but it can't read that or an actual SD card so I'm not sure it matters.
Anyway, after a couple of hours of research, I discovered that the best way to fix this is apparently to re-flash my recovery to version 3.2.0.0 of CWM instead of the 5.8.3.1 the current version of ROM Manager installed. After digging around, I found what I believe is 3.2.0.0, but I can't figure out where to put it so ROM Manager can find it and flash it over the current Recovery image. Also, if anyone has a link to download 3.2.0.0 that they know works, please let me know because I couldn't find a working download link anywhere.
I've also looked into doing it through Fastboot, but can't exactly figure out how to do that, either. I downloaded the fastboot.exe application and installed the Android SDK, but it tells me that it can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing. Being a non-developer type, I have no idea where this is supposed to come from, how I should install it, and if there's any other steps I'm missing.
So if anybody can help me out with either of these (preferably using the older version of CMW), that'd be great, but if anyone has an even easier way to do it, please share by all means. I know what I'm doing once I get to the point of installing the new ROM and Gapps, I just need my Xoom to be able to find them first.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out!

[Q] CWM Recovery for Allwinner A33?

I was just wondering if there was any available (or TWRP) or a substitute for a generic tablet
Maybe it's too early but I'm interested too, even for a cyanogenmod rom

My issue are 2 things the constant ads that pop up (minor issue) and second is the space, very low space.... I have an 32gb sd card and I'd like to use that as the primary storage, but since the tablet is kit Kat switching the storage around isn't done the same as its done in jelly bean and from what I read it can only be done by flashing in CMW recovery because ads to sd doesn't always work
I have exactly the same your problems! I can't understand why they partition the main memory when they could use the whole space to install apps... And I want to remove that damn ads popups too!
My model is recognized as softwinner "V11", I'd like to know if CM designed for other similiar tablets works...

Yup im certain that we have the same tablet because mines is also softwinner V11 lol
Hi guys. I've got an a33 quad core tablet badged ciprotec but I know it's allwinner based (obviously). Have you guys managed to get yours rooted? Mine runs 4.4.2 kvt49l. It's OK for messing around on but I need to practice my developing skills!! Cheers!
That tab is should already rooted I have one too but I found the preinstalled root doesn't work properly. Cant remember quite how i got it working but i think i used supersu to delete and reinstall the root script or I might have had to hook it up to the pc with a bit of software for flashing allwinners that I found. When you do have it rooted get gl2sd if your running kitkat so you can use the external sd for some of the bigger app installs rather than the rather small internal sd, but before that make sure the write permissions are enabled to sd there are a few Apps on the market that can do this. Has anybody heard anything on cwm or twrp yet?
Managed to get it done using vroot! Yay!! It's mine at last!
Hi all,
I've rooted my device and accidentally removed the systemui.apk so now my status bar etc is missing.
So far I've been trying to restore it from several Roms and other user posts, however, it looks like as if the model etc has to match my environment. So here I go, could someone post their systemui.apk???
Cheers!
Bump
Anyone??

Its a root app.. It'll come up as malware.... Use kingoroot.. Works fine.
I have this tablet as well, I have it rooted but still have not found a way to get around the ads that popup. Has anyone been able to mod this or delete the script that is causing the ads.
"edit"
found a link for AllWinner Demo Lock (trojan) Removal Tool cannot post the link because I have not posted 10 posts, but if you google it is easy enough to find.

did not fix problem with ads

Windows ADB driver??
I have a new A33 tablet, which I cannot get it rooted, because I cannot find a working Windows ADB driver for it - either for Windows 8.1 x64 or Windows 7 x64.
The MTP driver works (I can transfer files), but I cannot find the "Android" driver for the ADB connection.
I tried the Rockchip "RK driver assistant" - no luck.
If you have a working ADB connection to an Allwinner A33 tablet, could you perhaps share the Windows ADB drivers here?
TIA

Try this
A33 Twrp
I made a TWRP for A33, A23,A20 and A31s models over on TechKnow . Some of them are posted but I think I have yet
to post all of them on the Public Downloads... I will make an effort to get them all posted soon. Offhand I do not
recall the specs I used though I am thinking all used gslx Touchscreens.. I will post here again the specs of the Tabs
they are for and a link to where they are posted once I am sure they are up ... The delay in posting them has
been the installer, I was working with another person since I have no A33 on making an installer that will
work on all of the tab models from ADB, also I am working pretty heavily on A31s Dev at present and have
allowed my other projects to fall behind even though some are essentially finished as in this case.
Thanks

Custom recovery for Asus Tinkerboard

Hi,
I've been trying to find a custom recovery for the new Asus Tinkerboard, which is based on a RK3288 chipset, running Android 6.0.1, so I can install zip files from sdcard etc.
The generic CWM 6.0.5.1 by @Oma7144 *almost* works, but it usually hangs after saying can't open /dev/block/...../misc (no such file or directory).
The one time it got past this it gave me the menu option for reboot/install zip etc, but I couldn't move up and down the menu with my USB-attached keyboard.
Does anyone know if there's a later build, or a tinkerboard-specific one anywhere?
Thanks,
Iain

Hey lain,
Did you solved your problem till now?
i think the big problem is that the Tinker board is not so popolar at the moment and you see this specialy on xda that there are not much to find about it.
I have the TB too and i am actually very active at the Tinker board community Forum but also there are not much solutions for some things i need or want for example bluetooth functions to use it as a headset.
But try your luck there and ask your question.

They already compiled a working I'm going of TWRP and it can be downloaded thru the site or app. Heads up thou, I have a TB S with 7.1.2 and it would not work, just bootlooped or wouldn't return to recovery at all. Let me know if that works for you, the img number is 630 I believe, just follow the instructions, I already rooted and installed play on mine before doing this

had same issue, not sure if mine is s or not, i think it's just the regular TB.
the port poorly ported or it's just intentional anti-leech. if you look in the fstab files, you'll see it...
honestly, the best way would be to port it by yourself. i'm gonna try doing that sometime this month, no guarantees though
