[Q] Is there a minimum Rom free memory...? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've done some research, but haven't found what I'm looking for. To cope with the memory limitation of my phone, I move some apps to Rom with titanium explorer. Does the rom use the rom partition free space for something? Writting cache, and so on? I have a Xperia J and a X10 mini pro, and they both have around 20 Mb of free space on the ROM. Is it ok? Is there a "safe threshold"?
Thanks

ROM is actually installed on /system partition, and by default its mounted as R/O (Read-Only). So cache won't be written inside /system partition and it will be stored in phone's internal memory. The ROM free space remains free like that which is unused space.

Not sure what did you mean by it, but if its about RAM then its completely different.

Thanks for you answers. Coolsandie actually answered what I really wanted to know: as system partition is a read-only partition, it doesnt write anything to it, so i can add apps to it as long as there's free space. Thanks

Free up space on CM7

Hi, I'm trying to free up some space on CM7 by deleting system apps, but that doesn't seem to free up any space at all. I'm guessing that that's a different partition, so is there a way I could expand the internal storage partition? I want to avoid using a sd-ext since I don't have much space on my sd card
I really like the app s2e which lets you move just the Dalvik cache to the SD card without any noticeable performance hit. It isn't much space ~90MB but that makes a big difference for the internal storage.

Oh I didn't know that app could do that! That's exactly what I need, thanks!
use munjeni's hboot editor and change values of system, cache and user data to increase free space

The way I do it is to delete most of the ringtones, wallpapers and live wallpapers from the zip before I flash the rom.

Internal memory shortage!!

Although we can move apps to sd with rooted device but it still comsumes some memory form mobile. Is it not possible to move apps to sd without any consumstion of internal memory?

I dont think so...
Partition your SD and use link2SD if you're on stock rom or a2SD / s2e if you're on custom rom. Still, all apps use a small amount of internal storage. Also check if your cache isn't too big, I've recovered up to 40 MB by clearing cache every few months.
You can use "S2E" from market and tick all option including the data one but you will get a decrease in performace. For data you must enter in definitions and tick advanced for accessing it.
I am using Miracale v4 by itasoulas and using link2sd to move apps to sd but if i download heavy size app or games it takes much more internal memory so, i'm running out of internal memory.
If i do partition of my sd card to install app separately will it also consume internal phone memory?

I have made partition of sd yet. Im thinking of making it if I get any solution.
I used Link2SD and now have over 100mb free internal space. I partitioned the sd card to ext3, 1024mb.... works like a charm, no performance issues.. widgets are recognized as well.

lol why should I? who cares anyway.
get titanium backup and use the "Convert to system app" option...this moves the app to free ROM memory...this should give you at least 25-45 MB user memory

Forum ma search kar bo topic 6 enu upar
i choose manual to move app to sdcard from settings(no use any app for this),20 hd games+17 casual games + 35 apps i still have 70mb free memory, maybe s2e gives more free space but it isn't stable, sometimes when i unplug my battery because of lags, then my apps are gone,link2sd is rubbish, they just give me 40 mb space and unstable like s2e.
sorry for my english

Absolutely true, the only thing good is that it still keeps the app fast (+ widgets) and no hassle on connecting USB
Useful for just those 4-5 apps one wants
Even in link2sd no hassle in USB class 10 sdcard so its super fast :-D

You need a rooted Ace for this? And custom ROM?
Guys,
Sorry to ask a noob question:
I know how to partition the SD card to EXT, but does these apps mentioned, Link2SD etc, working with stock rom? And uprooted phone?
Thanks.
Yes.
But you need follow the tutorials that are posted in the forum (hit search).
In stock roms u need (i guess) another kernel that support inid.d scripts.
The only reason i love cyanogen is because of s2e, after move dalvin on ed-ext i have 160 mb and with all my apps (20-+) i have 140mb.
I don't know if on stock u can do what s2e does but there are another tricks. (Link2sd) for exemple.

Delete Vodafone Apps

Hi
I used titanium backup to delete all those apps that vodafone install on your phone and you can't simple remove them. However, after I delete them my free space didn't increase... I still have 20mb free as i had before i delete the apps...
So....
What do you want now
More space
Use link2sd or cronmod

Deleting those apps will release free space on system partition, not the internal memory.

Yes, a partition in sd. It doesn't care if it is ext2/3/4. I hope you know how to make a partition.

[Q] Xperia U memory full message although like 500MB free on telephone memory...

My internal memory has only 2 - 10 MB free but STILL my "telephone" memory is free by 500 MB or so, still when trying to install/update a new app this stpd message comes... ?
Tried moving the smallest apps from internal to telephone memory, but NOT working due to small memory??? Wtf? Xperia U trying to fool me... -.- :crying:
Pls help!
/data partition is not same as /sdcard partition.
Okay, and how exactly shall knowing that help me?
/Data is where apps are installed. /Sdcard is media partition.
So if youre trying to install apps it doesn't matter how much internal memory you have

Problems with Link2SD and "system/user partition"

Bye at all
With Link2SD i moved a lot of applicaton to the system partition, but i had problems with shazam and opera classic. They doesn't work and if i try to re-pass them to the user partition, Link2SD give me the error: write: No space left on device. (but i've a lot of space!!). This happens also with the others applications.
How can i solve? I've wiped cache by recovery but the problem remains.. any suggestions?
EDIT: it's the dalvik cache.. I've two directory /cache/dalvik-cache and /data/dalvik-cache. If i clean the first the space problem disappear and i can do anything perfectly.. but when i reboot, the dalvik is recreated and the space is full again (cache).
This is the question: the apps i've moved to the rom memory (system memory) create a too large dalvik-cache (i think). I would like to move the dalvik-cache of this applications to the user memory (not to the sd card). Integrate /cache/dalvik-cache in /data/dalvik-cache. Is possible?
How can i do?

Hmmm...dalvik-cache from system apps can't be move into ext partition using link2sd...link2sd keep it at cache/dalvik-cache so your phone can boot faster and can open system apps quicker...
but if you want to really move those dalvik-cache you have to use other apps than link2sd... This Apps can do the job but remember you need to restore all files that have been link using link2sd first...both app can't work together so you need to uninstalled link2sd before you can use it....also remember this app might not work on certain phone and rom...make Nandriod backup before you attempt to try this apps...

Hmmmm...so far as i tested, there no problem with it....there a big different between Mounts2SD and Link2SD...Link2SD only link the apps/lib/dalvik-cache on install apps but not on system apps while Mounts2SD is moving apps/data/lib/dalvik-cache and even system cache to your ext partitions...the setup also quite easy using Mounts2SD but the big disadvantage about Mounts2SD is you can't uninstall apps using it...you have to use default way in settings/apps to uninstalled it or use and app uninstaller...the big advantage about Mounts2SD is you will have more free space (around 95%) in internal memory cause after moving all apps/data/lib/dalvik-cache....

After those problems i restored a nandroid backup and only integrated the updates of six apps in the rom with Titanium Backup, this is a problem for Mount2SD now? (you said i must to restore link done with Link2SD etc. before).
Can you explain me the steps i must do? I want to move some applications to the system memory (with Mount2SD you said) and leave their dalvik-cache to /data/dalvik-cache (not necessarily that of all the default system apps)

yes i have experience using this app...those 6 app that use have mention before, are there system app update? if the are system app update then you can push it into system without any problem either using titanium backup or manually push it using file explorer with root excess...just make sure in Mounts2SD you tick don't move system app 2 ext...just let it be but tick...
1.move app to ext
2.move data to ext
3.move dalvik-cache to ext
