Hey I'm all for it if it helps catch "bad guys" and junk. If you're not doing anything illegal who cares. Do what ya gotta do to catch the jerks. I for one am sick and tired of people getting away with junk, it's ultimately costing all of us.

It's worth noting that there's nothing in the article that indicates that they don't have similar orders in place for other carriers. The Verizon order is the one that leaked, but it would seem that given the breadth of the order, it's probably not VZW specific. The others just haven't been leaked at this point.
I don't personally lose a lot of sleep over this, but I can understand the concern on this. I do think that an order this broad is excessive.

I'm sure it's not just Verizon
I love the "if you're not doing anything, nothing to worry about" argument. No, I'm not doing anything. And it's because of that fact that no one should be building a database on who I call and for how long and where. People just don't get it... How far will it go? When does it stop? Should every person walking the streets be subject to search at any given time because "we might get a bad guy"
Sorry, but I don't do anything wrong. I'm a simple family man who enjoys sports and tech. And I am bothered by my government spying on me and my fellow citizen for no reason at all.
The article states, the conversations weren't recorded, but that's next. And how would you feel if some computer somewhere is recording you talking dirty to your wife? Or whatever, insert whatever you want there.
This isn't right. And it's scary.

So you are ok with say, at any random time, your door being kicked in and your house searched without a warrant? By your logic, someone somewhere is in a house doing bad things, so we should just search every house whenever we want.

Apparently there is a rumor of a class action lawsuit against Verizon for compensation as well as contact cancellations Etf free..
Of course it will probably go no where because of the federal wire tap law hu ha bull****.
This Country that we are growing up in and supporting with our taxes cares not about us but soley about is control of the country.
Oddly enough Verizon most likely never put up a fight to this. Verizon license their air waves from the federal government.. as with their lte service and upcoming aws service they are leasing it from the govt. Makes since if you think about it..
Govt. Says if you want the best airwaves from us to Make you the number one provider we expect from you in return to allow us to collect millions of users call data ..

All airwaves are "leased" from the FCC. I deal with radio communications. Fire and law enforcement were pushed onto the 800MHz spectrum about 10 years ago. Now the FCC wants them to move to the 700MHz spectrum so they can lease the 800MHz to cell phone carriers. Tax payers pay for the equipment needed to make this change which isn't cheap.
All the complaints I heard about google snooping on your WiFi are nothing compared to our own government snooping on every spectrum out there. No communication is sacred unless it is face to face.
The extreme would be to go back to basics of a land line so your location couldn't be tracked. And not using any social media sites or forums. How far are you willing to go?

What I find more disturbing is how ok a lot of people are with our constitutional rights being blatantly violated by the government under the guise of they might catch a boogeyman. The point isn't "if I'm not doing anything wrong, I have nothing to worry about, so I don't care". The point is the lower level implications that the government is wiretapping us without a warrant for us individually without just cause. They cannot do that according to the constitution, and there should be impeachment implications over it AFAIC. Same goes for the second amendment. You might not like it, but it is our right - constitutionally - to be able to own firearms. Like I said, I'm troubled by how many people are just ok with our rights be stripped of us. Rights that make us American, that made us the free people we were.
I wonder how much more intrusion, how much more erosion of our rights it is going to take before the American people revolt and tell them to back the eff off. I don't think we are those kinds of people any more sadly. We are not the people with the spine to stand up to big brother to defend our freedoms from an overreaching government. Myself included - I know I don't have that in me.

While true, the Patriot Act was extended by congress and signed by the president that is sitting in office right now. They had a chance to let it die, and didn't. Now it is all on them for what we have today from that Patriot Act POS when they should have let it die out.

The government likes to use the argument that "they (we) are still looking for terrorists." This argument is now void. Seriously, we stopped trying to end terrorism years ago. We cannot possibly still think that our government is still trying to do this. They are constantly getting into our private lives like it is nothing.
Look, I am a soldier in the United States Army, and I do not see myself ever going into some senators house and going through his documents because I can. That is exactly what they are doing to me! I have nothing to hide. Just do not go through my personal life. I guarantee that they would not like it if I went through their personal lives. LEAVE MY VERIZON RECORDS ALONE!

So this lawsuit will proceed, palms will get greased, the merger will eventually go through. Then there is the facade of due process. If they just let it pass there would be a lot of noise. But quickly going at it in court, for show, will appease most people. "Hey, they went to court and the court found blah blah blah, it must be better than I thought." World keeps on turnin'.

Also: check att's leaked documents regarding the merger. Shows how what you are looking for won't happen as they dont actually intend on doing it.... Quite the opposite.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Actually thought it said they intend on doing it. I the point of the leaked doc was that so far at has said they can't do it without tmobile. But in the doc it showed the cost for att to do the buildout and it was extremely less than the price they are paying for tmobile. This creates a problem and shows they are doing the merger for other reasons than the main one stated which is a big no no.
If the deal still goes through rest assured that there will be some big restrictions or stipulations surrounding it now.

The interesting thing this time is that they are actually claiming that Android itself infringes on their patent, and they have already previously won against HTC in court. HTC was able to "work around" the issue to avoid the infringement, but they still technically lost in court and were originally found to be infringing on Apple's patents.
My point is, if they are able to seal a victory against HTC in court again, this time they can use the ruling against other Android manufacturers.. This case could turn out to be a very in important one for Android to win.
They're crying because of the IDC report that is putting Windows Phones ahead of them in worldwide market share by 2016. It's like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum when they get bad news. Might as well go after HTC since they made the modifications last time.

Anytime someone tries to tell you that free-market capitalism leads to monopolies, use Apple as an example against that.
Apple is becoming a monopoly because governments and their courts are allowing them to. These cases should be thrown out of court, but I'm guessing Apple has influential connections and allies.

I agree. I bet the judges have iPhones and ipads and macs. They probably pay them off with free products for life if they find in their favor. Apple could find a way to win as a lot of htc devices still infringe patents such as our rezounds, EVO 3d, shift, just to name a few

Maybe a great marketing idea?

Yes this may never work, but currently at the end of my shift at work, and I started thinking what would really show people what's going on behind the scenes with Apple suing HTC and Samsung. And this is the idea that I came up with, with the idea that it probably would never work, but hey its just a thought lol.
We've seen HTC comparing itself to Samsungs GSIII, just trying to compare itself. What if HTC and Samsung did it together with Google as the head supporter of Android, with a headline of something around, "Apple's run scared, attempting to ban these phones from you." Or "Meet the phones that Apple is terrified off..." Something in that sense to stir up curiousity and interest in. And on my mind, YMMV, I picture the OG EVO commercials with the Andrioids flying around the phone and showing it off with quotes from reviews.
But in the end, a for more info go to here, to show the potential customer what is going on since none of Apple's lawsuits are very big in the news unfortunately.
Obviously HTC and Sammy fans don't get along too well, but the Android OEMS seriously need to stick together for some time if they're ever going to have a chance if Apple keeps chipping away at them with court.
Reminder, this is just my personal opinion, but please share what you think of it. Or what you would add / change because I'm curious of this would ever be a true way to really give Apple some SERIOUSLY BAD PR, or if I'm just some nut case, who needs to get a job with daytime hours lol.

You know the iPhone's use of google maps generates 40% of Google's income? And now that Apple is deciding to make its own map app to replace Google maps as the default in iPhone it seems like an all out break in the companies.
Apple isn't innovating anymore, all they're doing is filing stupid patents and suing. They'll probably win because they are on top and have the $ to pay lawyers where other companies don't.

I don't know what the percentage is but I bet it's a good amount, much more than 2% but no where near 40%.
"Mobile ads associated with maps and location data account for about a quarter of all mobile ad revenue. That's money Apple wants and Google doesn't want to lose out on."
http://www.businessinsider.com/wsj-apple-will-ditch-google-maps-on-ios-later-this-year-2012-6
It would be a much bigger blow if Apple were to get rid of Google search all together but I do feel the maps thing will put a bit of a dent in Google's bottom line.

I agree, I'm just saying it's going to sting a bit at Google. Hopefully it might help them get on the manufacturers and carriers a bit more to make sure they're selling quality products, I love Android but some of the stuff that gets put out there is absolute crap.
I know this thread has gotten off topic so I say to the OP, that might help if Google were to advertize. They make almost all their money off of ads but don't advertize themselves. The carriers do advertize phones a bit but they're more interested in selling you on their network than a specific phone. Not to mention the fact 3 of the 4 national carriers sell the iPhone so they wouldn't put down one of their own products.
Yeah, just came up with 40% off the top of my head because I was smoking crack.

Lol at least someone understands where I'm coming from. I doubt this will ever work but it was just an idea at the time.
But overall, I feel Google needs to help the OEMs stick together, for some amount of time, just to make it harder for Apple to try to make its dream of shutting Android down. Yes it would be hard, but on their current path, they may get their chance.
I laughed at some of the comments, but I guess the question I was trying to get around to ask,
Do you think google and the OEMs should make commercials with Google as the headliner to tell the world what Apple is suing about? I think if the overall general public knew, besides us tech enthusiasts , maybe people would see Apple for who they really are...
Just my two cents, and go!

I agree, that's why I never suggested the carrier's to make the commercial because they don't want to have conflicts I suspect, and they only care to sell, regardless the product.

This is actually what I've been hoping would happen for quite a while. It's much easier to pick them off one by one than to attack a united front. Unfortunately the all-mighty (dollar, euro, whatever) always wins out. If the manufacturers and Google could put aside their differences and come together and attack Apple, I think Apple would be forced to back down. For the first time in 4 years Android's world-wide usage dropped last quarter. It only dropped about 0.6% (from, I think, 51% to 50.4%) but a drop none the less. Symbian had over 50% of the market 4yrs ago, now it's dead. "Those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it" -Winston Churchill

This is what I was aiming for. Google needs to make serious friends, not just wayside acquaintances, to make Android that much stronger.

Google looking to block Shipments of iPhone and iPad

http://www.bgr.com/2012/06/25/google-tries-to-block-u-s-shipments-of-apples-iphone-over-3g-patents/
About time Google plays Apple's game, give them a taste of their own medicine. Official decision coming August 24th.

Wall of text, TL;DR.
And so it begins, an even more pointless back and forth between two incredibly successful companies. It's never going to end.
I don't get bgr and their apple fanaticism. I like android but I'm not making up crap in support of it like I hear almost everyday about apple.
Just makes me laugh how stupid it is. Hope google gives then a swift kick in the nuts. Bc chocolate chip ice cream sandwich offers virtual reality synch and the new google maps will navigate ur car so u don't have to drive. Will also support Brainwave V3.2x that plugs in your skull so u will never have to talk to anyone ever again. You talk w ur brain!
Gonna be so awesome! Suck it ios 6!

This is BGR twisting headlines around. Google hasn't even filed and injunction.

I like how the dolt updates it with "Well it's not really google doing it" but leaves the headline intact.
I really need to not click on those links. I don't want that idiot's site to get credit for a single page view from me.
Apples at it again.
They just got a judge to block sales of galaxy nexus. Even before trial. Appl has to post a bond before court will enforce the injunction.

I can't even muster up all the HATE apple deserves. I mean, doing this to GNex is essentially trying to stop the android experience altogether.

Is this not reason enough for Google to destroy them? Damn, Google pull the trigger already

I can't stand Apple and I hope this causes them delays and headaches, just the way it did with us getting our EVO 4G LTE's.

If you guys really think that by having "an all out war" benefits the consumer, you've lost your minds.
You know all that talk about how Apple doesn't innovate because they are busy suing? Well, if Google joined in, who would innovate?
Think before you get all childish revenge rage syndrome. All this will work out.
Am I glad this is happening? No. I'm not, but I wouldn't be happy if Google blocked the iPhone either. Competition is good, and stiffling it, NO MATTER WHO DOES IT, is bad.

There is such a thing as defending your business. If Google, htc, Motorola and Samsung do nothing that would be incredibly stupid. Apple will not cease there endless litigation unless companies make it just as difficult for them. Sorry but you don't sound very informed on the subject.

I understand defending your business, and I'm not against litigation by any stretch, but the calls for Google to "destroy" Apple is what I was talking about.
But apply that to Apple as well. Don't you see them as defending their business? So how is what they are doing "evil"? I just don't understand the Apple hatred. This is business as usual, it's just getting press this time.

Class action

Just a heads up...as some of you might know I've stated before that I don't like when companies mess with me etc. My sister and her husband are both Harvard law graduates with connections to some big lawyers that love this stuff. We might have some stuff in the works...I'll keep you all in the loop. What they've been doing is fraud. You know the old saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me more than 7x...here's my lawyer."

Out of curiosity, what is the specific action that you are accusing as fraudulent?
What are we taking about here? Another law suit about what?
