[Q] Going back to stock (S-ON)(Energy Rom) - HTC Amaze 4G

Hello, I desperately would like to see how to put my HTC Amaze back to stock. A couple of months ago I tried putting it back to stock because the energy rom kept rebooting on me and draining my battery life randomly. Anyways I was not successful and so I just kept the rom and the rebooting problems stopped anyways. Now, its happening again and I would really love for some one to help me get it back to stock so I can see if it improves and maybe get the thing S-OFF later. I am with Wind mobile.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
A frustrated amaze user.

Hey thanks for the response. So I locked the bootloader and then got the wind RUU renamed it as PH85img.zip or w/e its supposed to be. And now when in the boot screen it cannot find my file I then tried another RUU but this time is used the exe wind one but that one failed as well and came up as an error saying the hboot version is older then what im flashing or something?
So I am stuck at this point. Do you know how to get around this?

Make sure the ruu is on the root of the sd card

Yeah it was connected via usb. I got somewhere, now but im am hoping you can tell me what i need to do now. I followed the second post here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167596 and now I have GB rom on my phone running unlocked. What do I need to do from here so I can S-off and super CID? PS I tried doing an OTA update from the phone and it wont work.

Looking into the S-off guide it says i must be on a stock RUU. is the one i got install a stock RUU. Also my hboot version is 1.93.0002 (Mar 15 2012) which is ice cream sandwich according to the Unlimited.IO site, but the RUU im on is definitely gingerbread. What can I do about this?

What is your android version in settings?? Cuz what your telling is kinda weird
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium

Adroid Version: 2.3.4
HTC Sense version: 3.0

am I completely screwed now? Cause it seems i wont be able to get S-off or CID off while not on this unsigned rom (t-mobile), i am with Wind. The OTA does not work while on the phone (settings > software update). Would locking my bootloader and then loading the latest OTA zip from wind on the SD card work? I am very stuck!

well choice is yours your android version says GB hboot says ICS :/ i say try the GB s-off tool but do at your own risk...

well S-Off worked so thats good haha. Now i am trying to super CID. However, when uploading the proper hboot for doing so it wont let me because of the CID.

Ignore that last post. I figured it out so all is good. Now here is another question, should i flash CM10.1 or your rom that viper one? How would I go about flashing a rom. I remembered before you would just go into recovery and then format all execpt sd card and then install from zip. I tried that with the CM10.1 rom and when I rebooted it did not work.

went ahead and tried installing the Viper rom and after i reboot (when it said all was good) it show a black screen with green arrows. And its stuck on that. I do not know what to do now. Because I should have everything open. Was I supposed to flash something after doing the S-OFF?

This is what I am getting stuck on. I tried another rom too, same thing. I can boot into 4ext. But cant get past this on boot up.

Now your s off BUT you have gb firmware so you have to flash a ruu 1st then flash a recovery then supersu or just flash any rom you want if you decide to stay with the ruu stock rom to gain root permission flash supersu

[Q] Serious problems switching ROMs

I've got an Amaze 4G on Wind Mobile. My brother and I recently tried upgrading it to ICS. We followed numerous sets of instructions, flashing a recovery, a new version of hboot, s-offing the phone, changing the SuperCID and flashing an ICS ROM. We originally tried Android Revolution HD, but the phone always got stuck at the HTC logo and wouldn't boot up.
After a few hours of searching the forums and trying various things, we finally got the Energy ROM version 5/1 installed, after changing the SuperCID back to the Wind default (globa001 I think). We figured it was an issue with the Revolution ROM, but when I tried upgrading to Energy 5/6, I ran into the same issue.
I have searched the forums and found numerous people with the same problem, but I have not found a solution. I spent all night flashing ROMs and trying various things and I finally got it to go to the Energy boot animation, but it would just sit there and do nothing (I left it a good half hour). The next morning I tried installing Speed Rom with the SuperCID 11111111 and it worked. However, I had tried the same thing the night before, so I'm not sure what changed.
I'm not happy with Speed and would like to go back to Energy, but I'm worried it will brick my phone again.
I am currently using the TWRP recovery, but I used 4ext before with the same result. My firmware versions are as follows:
RUBY PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.93.0002
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0202
eMMC-boot
Any help would be very much appreciated.

ok, well if your on wind mobile you want to use super cid.
but heres what i think the problem is, you didnt mention anything about wiping. try flashing the superwipe.zip before flashing roms. and always have a nandroid of a working rom. or else you may get stuck....
if you need anymore help, i will be watching this thread
Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I used superwipe and tried the various wipe options in the recovery, with the same result.
I'll definitely look into nandroid before I try installing another rom ;-)
I'd advise switching back to 4EXT recovery, makes flashing easier, trust me. Now update your phone to stock ICS, install 4EXT recovery then format all partitions except sd then install the ROM of your choice.
Before installing ICS you'll need to flash GB stock from WIND, then update to ICS via either OTA or directly on the phone via OTA. Then do what I said above, let us know what happens.
yeah like dark said above me, use 4ext. it makes flashing easier.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'm a little confused about how to proceed though. I downloaded the stock Wind ruu.exe file from the forums, but I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm running Linux, so I can't execute the file. Is there any way to flash it without a Windows machine?
Also, do I need to relock my bootloader and go through the whole s-off procedure again, or can I simply downgrade to GB and upgrade back to ICS again without going through all those steps?

Once you're s-off once, you'll always be s-off unless you s-on again, to use the windows file your best option would be to use WINE. Which I figure you should be know how to use.

Thanks again for your help. I followed your instructions: Downgraded to GB, flashed the Wind ICS OTA, install 4ext recover, ran superwipe and formatted everything except the SD card, and then flashed Energy 6/6. It got past the HTC screen, but got stuck on the Energy boot animation.
Do you have any other suggestions?

I'm trying to get the latest EnergyRom. I was using the GB EnergyRom before and finally made it to the T-Mobile Stock ICS rom using fastboot instructions from here: androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/535820-how-easier-way-flash-ph98img-files.html using the this ruu. Right now I don't se any S-On instructions for Energy rom, though I do see one for Android Revolution HD. I need to get CWM re-installed as that was lost. Do I need S-Off to get Energy Rom?
How do I get the latest Energry rom installed?

HELP! Rezound refuses to pull ICS update (or any update)

I recently re-locked my bootloader (never had s-off) and flashed the appropriate RUU to restore my device back to complete stock, however now it won't pull the ICS update and I'm having a hard time figuring out what issue is. Is there any chance that someone can help me get this working? When I check the status of the upgrade server it's completely blank except for the source: Verizon Wireless and code: 0 any idea?
Flash the GB RUU and it will update to ICS after the install. If you flashed the ICS leaks then you need to S off so that you can get back to GB. Getting S off is very easy. I would recommend it so you can flash all the new roms.

Hello, I have a stock Rooted Rezound runniong 2.3.4 android. I got prompted to install ICS, and i delayed it, and it installed anyway and my phone would not get past the HTC screen. I have cwm installed, and i reverted back to the day i rooted.
How do i get the phone back to "stock" so i can get the OTA properly. is there a thread i can follow? i am s-on i think. (how do i tell, i thought i was s-off, see below for the bootloader screen)
when o go to the boot loader it says

HBOOT-2.11.0000

You are S-On.
Download the GB RUU.
Relock the bootloader.
Run the GB RUU.
Let the OTA install.

so which one do i flash theres 3 different roms.
how do i figure out which one i am on
1.00.605.3
1.02.605.6
2.01.605.11
also is there another link for the fastboot tool? so i can lock it again? Will these replace cwm on my device?
You have boot 2.11 so you need to get the 2.01 ruu. And yes it will return it too 100 percent stock including the recovery. You want to keep kt that way until after you update with the ota.

What happens when you check for a new update? Does it sit there for a couple seconds and then just disappear and not say anything? Or does it at least tell you that "there is no update available"? I had this same issue on the GB update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469246
basically what I had to do what activate my SIM on another rezound and then put it back into my original and it started pulling the updates.

I was able to lock the device. Push the RUU 2.01 (like recommended) I then pulled down two OTA updates. One "prepared for ICS" the second installed ICS

Need some help with new Rezound

I received a replacement Rezound today and have messed it up beyond my repair. When I powered the new phone on it was on the old GB software. I manually searched for an update which was finally found. I downloaded the update and went through the process of installing it. About half way through the update, a red triangle with an exclamation point appeard. I tried this process twice and then decided to run the RUU that I had installed on my sd card from my prior phone. The RUU was the most recent ICS.
At this point I was not S-off or rooted, but completly stock. The RUU did not fully run but it did update my HBOOT and Radio's. When I boot the phone, it is still on GB software. I have some how changed my bootloader to show Tampered as well.
I was able to flash a zip file of AmonRa 3.15 and was able to flash ViperRom 1.03. I thought this would correct the problems and allow me to S-Off but it did not.
I thought that if I could S-off I could maybe get this all straight. But I am not sure.
At this point, I have a phone that reboots after a few short minutes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If it tanked doing the OTA ICS update right out of the box, I'd call VZW for another phone...
Thank you for the reply, but my hboot now says tampered and relocked. I do not think I could send the phone back in this condition and get a new one.

I wasted a lot of life thinking it was the greatest....... Lies! Lies! Do you have any idea how lucky android users are to have on device recovery? So just grab any ruu and just do the rom again.
will that work since i have S-on still or since its unlocked.
Well, you have the 2.11.605.9 radios.
You'll need the 2.11.605.9 RUU, which I can't find it after numerous searches.
Try flashing this.
This is the full RUU for 2.11.605.19
http://goo.im/devs/trter10/PG05IMG.zip
***Credit to Trter10 for this full RUU***
You may have to root again and get s-off, flash the 2.11.605.19 radios, and then try flashing this RUU.
The 2.11.605.19 radios can be found here:

I'm not sure if you'll have to do the instructions above or if flashing this RUU will put the radios on there. I'm 99.9% sure this RUU contains the radios as well.

how do I get the s-off again with only recovery and clockworkmod
I was able to get back into the 4.0.3 leaked Rom
but a lot of errors come up and not able to enable the USB
i got the Debug working and now the software number says 7.00.605.2 710RD
should i try to re-root now or is there a way to get the stock rom onto the phone
anything will help guys
When you flashed it, you should have then tried to unroot.
Right after it was flashed, it should have put you on 2.11.605.19

The errors you are getting are because it is trying to format the file system in ext4 and the kernel can only run ext3.

when i try to unroot i get the error from the all in one that the caralina is not there and it exits
so i cant root that way
is there is a way to root from the recovery/clockworkmod or from the 4.0.3 leaked ICS
how would i kick this back to the Ext3 from the ext 4
thanks for the all the replys
man i feel like a newbie when i ask these questions
I'm on this forum all the time and read other issues.and waiting for the newest rom to hit and when your rooted you feel great knowing this is your phone and not Verizon's.
but know that i broke the screen, i got the new phone and its all rooted and got my rom on it and everything
just the phone i have to return is just jacked and i dont want to get hit with the 150$ non-return fee because its S-on and unlocked and not even a stock rom

Try flashing a stock ruu and an older radio if you're using the leaked radios. The tool can't unroot the ics leak with the leaked radios. I would just download the stock ruu and fast boot flash it. Then try unrooting.

That's what I was saying, but he's on the 2.11.605.9 radios... and I couldn't find the 2.11.605.9 RUU anywhere.
Would he have to s-off and install the 605.19 radios and then flash the 605.19 RUU?
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
He would have to be s off to flash the other radio. Upgrading to a higher version should work s on. You can't downgrade without s off.

I know i looked for the RUU for about 2 hours last night. every link i tried was down.
is there only one RUU i can use? with the radio im stuck on.
not sure what the fast boot will do for me if the Rom or RUUs are not sticking to the phone after i try to update them
if that makes any sense....im not even sure i understand lol
So what files should i flash to in order to go up to a level that matches to a ROM
This way i can re-root, or do i need to just keep onlooking till i find a .9 RUU to match my radio
so i'm not rooted now because i have S-on. right?
but how do i have clockworkMod installed and can get load a leaked 4.0.3 to load?
All i really want to do is stock this and S-on so can return it lol

Use the all in one tool again to root and obtain s-off, and then go back 13 posts to where I posted the RUU for 2.11.605.19 and the link to the 2.11.605.19 radios.
Once you are s-off after using the all in one rooting tool, flash the radios. Once you flash the radios, flash the RUU and run the tool again to unroot.

any other ways to root
i tried to reinstall SU and got it to say installed

If you're running an ICS ROM, you'll need to drop down to another ROM based off of the 2.11.605.19 software.

I have tried a few different roms all 2.3.2 or 2.3.5 and the ROM completes but when i restart the phone for the new rom to load
it just drops me back to the clockwork-mod screen. the only one that gets past that screen is ICS
not sure what I'm doing that messing it up. i have loaded about 15 roms in the past and all have loaded......damn the S-on lol
Its like it remembers that i had that on the phone so its ok to have ICS but when i go to any other its like it just does not work

[Q] Trying to RUU to update my firmware not working.

So I'm currently on Flyhalf's CM10.1 (S-ON), and I checked the recommended firmware/radios for the ROM and realized I'm outdated. It calls for Hboot 2.26 and radio 2.23.10.0123r, 2.23.10.0124r. but I'm on 2.25 and 1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424r. I just updated to the latest version of the rom and I keep getting random bootlooping as well as the rom being way more unstable than the previous build I was on for about 4 months.
So, I'm trying to use Wildhorse's guide to updating firmware through RUU in hopes that it will solve my problems and it just plain isn't working. I've put the RUU in my external SD as PH98IMG, waited for my battery to charge to 90%, shut off the phone, pulled the battery, then gone into Hboot to flash it but I keep getting "No Image or Wrong Image" and it just goes back to the main Hboot screen every single time. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening even though I'm following everybody's directions exactly? I've been searching through the forums for about 2 hours now and I can't get an answer.
I'm still kind of new to HTC devices and how they work, so if anyone could help me figure this out I'd be very thankful.

You are on a leaked firmware, the currently available RUUs are all older than that, and you can't go back when you are S-ON. You need to S-OFF then you can RUU back to 3.14.605.12 and then OTA back up to the current 4.5.605.14

Okay, I was really hoping that wasn't the case. I hate to ask for more help, but I don't really understand how I'm supposed to get S-Off when I need to be on the stock RUU to do it, and I can't get on the stock RUU because I need to be S-Off to do so...
I hope I'm not stuck this way. Technically I'm on all the same software as I was yesterday, but now I'm getting random reboots all the time as well as bootloops that either go on for ten minutes or never end. I was on a build of CM10.1 from may with Amon Ra recovery, then tried to flash the newest TWRP that requires the new firmware (didn't realize I was on older firmware) and it bricked my phone. So I put on an older CWM recovery, tried to backup and it froze in the middle of every backup it tried to make. Put on an old TWRP, backups worked, so I flashed the newest version of CM10.1 (again not knowing I didn't have newest firmware) and that's when the bootlooping/rebooting started. I recovered to the old version of CM10.1 and the issue didn't go away, so now I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to get my phone in a usable state again.

Hey, wait a sec...
My bad, I just double checked, and with that Hboot/radio combination you are on stock ICS firmware already! Just RUU version 3.14.605.12, that should work without issues if done correctly and you should be back to pure ICS and can then allow the OTA to upgrade you in a few steps to 4.5.605.14

Oh, thank god. Hahah. I didn't remember ever flashing any leaked firmware before, so I was kind of confused there. I figured I may have done it somewhere in the unlocking/rooting process and just couldnt remember. Okay, thanks again for the help. RUU's have always confused me with the way they work. I should be stable in no time hopefully.
And now I'm having more issues... I can't use the Rom Updater because somethings wrong with my usb connection. I can plug it in and transfer files and such, but trying to use any ADB commands results in "Device not found" and the Rom Updater says it can't connect to my device either. My HTC Drivers are up to date, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Is there any way I can just get the PH98IMG.zip for 3.14.605.12 instead of having to use the RUU?
Not really sure what you are trying to run, I didn't think there was a 3.14.605.12 executable RUU, but use this page and instructions and grab the file: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/
Remember you will need to RELOCK the bootloader if I am not mistaken it is possible to hard brick if you don't!
Then copy to external SD card, name the file PH98IMG.zip (beware of the Windows "double zip" issue), verify MD5 on the SDcard, then reboot into hboot and go. Do it twice!!! Let it boot up and sit for about 10 minutes to calm down, then remove the PH98IMG.zip file from the SD card. Everything should be smooth sailing from there...
You should then be S-ON, completely stock. You will need to unlock again to do anything more

Strange, re-locking the bootloader was all I needed to get the RUU to update in my bootloader. No one else said to do that in any of the instructions, but I did it and immediately it started updating with the PH98IMG that I was originally trying to flash (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38527788&postcount=745&nocache=1&z=1965375486761331).
I'm back to stock now, but firmware is 4.03.605.2, not 4.03.605.14. Is that going to be an issue or can I go right ahead with re-unlocking the bootloader and flashing recovery/roms?

Well, I have some good news and bad news...
Bad news is you are now on a leaked firmware and will have to S-OFF to go up or down in versions unless a full RUU is released for the current OTA of 4.5.605.14...
Good news is you are the global leak, and you can use the JuopunutBear S-OFF exploit from http://unlimited.io/index.htm just as if you were on the original ICS release. Also, you can S-OFF and use most ROMs and recoveries as you are now on a global mode firmware.

Lol, all right, I would have tried to get the right firmware on there but my phone got so buggy that it wouldn't even boot into the rom anymore. So I couldn't get it on the SD card and I had to make do with what I had on there. At this point, I'm just glad the phone is usable again and I might leave it stock for a while. Thank you so much for all your help, I couldn't have figured this out without you!

Cool, glad you got it working.
That firmware is actually pretty decent and rock solid stable, you shouldn't have any more software related issues... Plus you can root/ROM like normal from that version, the radios may be slightler lower than most recommended versions, but they should work fine. If you do decide to go the ROM route again, I would suggest going S-OFF before starting, it will just make it easier in the long run.
Hey, just wanted to ask some questions as a follow-up since this seems to be the most relevant (and active) thread to my issue:
Long story short, got a new (to me) Rezound. It was running CM10, from the forthnightly thread. New SIM card from Verizon and I was getting data, but the no mobile network found error. After reading the threads I could find on the error, went with the suggestion of a wipe and so I did. A few too many beers while reading thru the forums, and I did the wipe a bit too thoroughly. Now I have a no OS found, and instead of thinking I know what I'm doing I'd like to ask to make sure I understand this correctly.
Currently, the phone is S-OFF, with TWRP 2.5.0.0. It's saying I'm not rooted, but then again no OS to be rooted. The dump from my bootloader is as follows:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** LOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.28.0000
RADIO-2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.0124r

After checking this thread and this one here it looks like the following applies:
* I can just run the regular RUU (executable) to load a stock image without having to revert back to S-ON first.
* I will have to re-unlock the bootloader thru htcdev after RUUing
* I'll need to reinstall TWRP
Is this right? Am I missing anything?

Okay, that's good to know. For now though, if I just wanted to get my phone working, make sure there's not a SIM issue and such I could go back to a stock image without worrying? I just would rather do a lot more reading and make sure I understand what I'm doing before I try to put a rom on and screw things up further.

No doubt its good to be cautious when you are s-off. If you are just wanting plain jane stock then you could just flash a ruu from boot loader.

S-off is S-off... installing a RUU wont change that, it may set you back to 'Locked", but you are S-off so it doesn't matter, you can stay locked&s-off and its no different than unlocked/S-off.
If you are going back to stock and are S-off I would use the Global Mode Leak (4.3.605.2) available on AndroidPolice and flash in Hboot... rename file to PH98IMG.zip and place in root of SD card (how it gets there is a irrelevant) then reboot into Hboot, confirm and wait.
