[Q] How to change bootscreen in JB - HTC Desire X

Well, I'm now on JellyBean with last HBoot, so I flashed the Deodexed JB rom, and I want to change the bootscreen from another rom (one of the ShadowDX rom, for example).
Is there any way to flash another bootscreen by aroma or another file manager? (I suppose that JB rom users can't do this vĂa root explorer, because of HTC system protection)
Thanks in advance

In the folder /system/customize/resource there are two zip files, one named hTC_bootup.zip (for the animation shown when you start the phone) and one named htc_downanimation.zip (for the animation shown when you shut down your phone). Just replace them with your desired ones using a file manager of your choice. If you are doing it from inside android, make sure to remount system partition as writable.

Are you rooted? There are a couple of ways. If you have RootExplorer (or any other file explorer app) go into /system/media and replace the bootanimation.zip. The new file MUST have the same exact name as the one you are replacing. Best bet is to rename the old one (i.e. bootanimation.zip.old) and place the new one. Change the permissions to match the other files in there (rw_r__r__). Reboot and enjoy.
Second method would require you to have the root and CWM installed. You can find and download flashable bootanimations and use CWM recovery to flash.
I prefer the first method though..
Mine doesn't seem to have a bootanimation.zip. There's a bootsamsung.qmg and a bootsamsungloop.qmg but those are the only things that seem to be related to boot animation.
Try replacing sanim.zip using the same instructions as above.

I think stock Samsung Froyo and GB roms have these files.
I have two Players and one of them is still on stock Samsung GB (rooted). And as you mentioned, files are not in zip format. So... I am not sure what to tell you here. I had my other one with a custom GB Rom which had the .zip format boot animation and it was piece of cake to replace. So... you can try a custom rom or just leave the booranimation as it is, I guess...
Maybe someone else has a better suggestion for you.
Flash with CWM Recovery
I'm not too sure whether you can change the boot animation on a stock rom, but on the custom rom i'm using, there isn't a bootanimation.zip file. I simply flashed the bootanimation.zip file through CWM recovery.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I have found this Boot Animation on the Iconia forum and I was wondering if it was possible to have it converted to work on the Evo 3D?
thanks
Decided to toss it in the proper folder with root explorer and not change anything in the. Txt file and worked just fine not being set to the 540 x 960 setting. Nandroid just in case but it went smooth for me.

Not sure what ROM your running but the name and location of the zip may be need to be changed and also this is not set up to be flashed through recovery. How did you need it to be set up? I could help or make depending on what it is.....

I could make it a flashable for you but it wouldn't be guaranteed to work w/ any ROM you flash as some of the boot animations could be stored in
/system/media/bootanimation
/local/data/bootanimation ... etc and especially if you run a sense ROM it could be in different folders as well and also be renamed sprint_bootanimation or even SPC_bootanimation.
There is just too much variations that it could be..
But I looked up your rom and yours is located in /system/media.
If I were you I would use your file explorer that you normally would use and
make sure you have root permission and that your system folder can be written/read etc
copy that bootanimation then go to / of your system with the file explorer and goto /system/media and change
the name of the bootanimation you already have there to bootanimation.zip.bak and then
paste the copy and make sure you fix permissions. rw r- r-
than you should be all good.
I have done this personally w/ my ROM running jb 4.1.2 cm10 but I have cdma and can not test the same setup
that you have.
Just before all this make sure you nandroid just incase bc if it does not work your phone will not boot properly. So if that happens then you will have to pull battery and boot in to your hboot and choose recovery and restore the nandroid you just made.

bootanimation zip

Using root explorer I cannot find bootanimation zip, as I want to change it.
I've looked in the usual place:
/system/media
no file exsist, I do have a bootsamsung.qmg file and bootsamsungloop.qmg file,.but no bootanimation.zip.
also I used the search function in root explorer and found:
/system/bin/bootanimation (but its a file type) not a .zip type.
in /sbin I found bootanimation.sch and bootanimation (both look like copies of what I found in /system/bin/
I played about and renamed the files in /system/media by adding .bak to the files this gave me a black screen during boot and the hutchison '3' was gone, I could still hear the boot.
Can anyone advise me? All I want to be able to do is disable (properly) the boot or change it.
I've read a lot about doing such (so I'm not asking ad-hoc) but all use bootanimation.zip, by changing the original. My dilemma is I seem to either have deleted it in the past (even though I still have the '3' logo [have never been without it]) or it's something to do with the bootsamsung.qmg file.
I figure if I can get the original bootanimation.zip place it where I need to and start to change things from there?
Please advise )

you can find it in data/local/
if you want new boot animation install rom toolbox pro and u will find a lot of cool boot animations
I do not have a /data/local directory
I flashed a new kernel from Philz and used Mobile Odin, I completed a nandroid backup before messing with the phone.
I have Rom toolbox pro installed, though messed about with that app before a nandroid backup. Maybe this is how I lost bootanimation.zip, however the /data/local directory should still be there, right?
Any suggestions on fixing it or best to just continue as I am?
I found the bootanimation.zip online that I wanted to instal and placed it in the /system/media directory, rebooted and I have what I wanted, though is it best to start again and do all formally (the right way) or just stick to what I have given I have been lucky that eventually I changed the bootanimation, though can't find the original bootanimation.zip nor do I have /data/local directory.
My thoughts are if I mess about more flashing etc and there's a need for the directory /data/local or even the original bootanimation.zip
Any advice or suggetions?

wiping data/cache/dalvik will not erase ur internal sdcard ma8
So doing a full wipe, and installing a proper rom, my internal SD will be safe
By full wipe I assume wiping data/cache/devlik..
Ok, thanks for the insight ))

How to change boot animation?

I tried installing the zip file through recovery and also replacing bootanimation in system\media using fileroot but still no luck.
This is the boot animation
http://www.mediafire.com/?3a6s1dsoeh4e88a
Is there a specific way of doing it on a one x+? I keep getting the stock HTC boot animation when both starting and shutting down.
I am using One x+ ATT unlocked with Elegancia w/o theme
Are you sure that this zip wasn't made for for a ROM which symlinks the bootanimation to /system/media? On the international X+ the bootanimation is located in /system/customize/resource and is sometimes also named hTC_bootup_ one.zip. But I don't know whether it is the same on AT&T phones.
If it didn`t work by copying the zip with root explorer then perhaps it is a flashable?
i got att i had to rename any bootanimation, zip to ATT_bootanimation.zip to get it to work overwhrite att ****..i just reunlocked my boot loader and rooted my one x+ on AT&T took ur file extracted it renamed bootanimation.zip or added ATT_bootanimation.zip USED ROOT EXPLORER copy it to system/customize/resource copy over ATT_bootanimation.zip BS. set permissions rebooted cool a.s.s. boot up..worked fine for me..nice bootanimation..

Change AT&T Bootanimation on Stock based Touchwiz roms.

This is a guide that I do not remember being posted anywhere, but if it has been, mods feel free to remove
This is for Stock based touchwiz roms ONLY where the dev hasn't added a custom bootanimation, and instead the stock ATT globe animation (which is a .qmg file instead of a zip ) is present. CM, PA, or AOKP roms do not need this, as you can just replace the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media for them.
First off special credit goes to Androidmechanic for pointing me in the direction of the thread to do so located HERE
The thread has some pretty clear instructions, but apparently some people still had problems with getting it to work, so here's what I did:
1.) Download Busybox from the playstore, open up the app and follow the instructions to install it. Even if you already have busybox from a previous time, a clean install of a fresh one will make this process work.
2.) Download the Bootanimation4u.zip AND Bootanimationzip4u.Samsungani.Only.zip from the thread linked above.
3.) Reboot into recovery and flash the Bootanimation4u.Samsungani.Only.zip FIRST, then flash Bootanimation4u.zip (I'm not sure if it is needed to flash both, but this is what I did to get it working.
4.) Reboot. Then paste any existing Bootanimation.zip files that you may have into /system/media through use of a root browser (ES File explorer, Root Browser, etc)
OR
if you don't have any bootanimation.zip files handy
you can download Boot Animation from the playstore and download and install from a PLETHORA of bootanimations. If you choose to do this follow these instructions, courtesy of XDA user ReelFiles
- install Boot Animations Root from the Play Store.
- Go into the app's preferences and change install location to /system/media/ and leave the default filename (bootanimation.zip) and go back to the main screen.
-. Select any bootanimation from the Server tab and hit Install. (Tablet ones at the bottom of the list look best.)
- Select the installed bootanimation again and hit Resize. Set it to 800x1280 30FPS.
-Tap the options key and select "Preview current" Make sure you like it and reboot.
You don't have to delete the .qmg files that Samsung uses for their bootanimation for this to work, but if for some reason this doesn't work for you, try deleting them and see what happens
Once done your bootanimation should be set! Happy Flashing!

Shutdown animation is located system/media/video/shutdown. There is a shutdown.qmg file. I replaced mine with the stock intl' Samsung shutdown qmg file. Looks much better.
I have a request to make.I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 running Lollipop 5.0.1 and i tried and flashed the file but nothing happened, but the reason is probably becouse i tried this method first ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ection-how-t1897969/post31833122#post31833122 ) and made a mess of things. Now i see only the Samsung GS4 inscription and the blank screen until the device boots up.I want to switch back to the default boot animation but i can't seem to get it back no matter what i try and i no longer have my system/bin folder bckp.If you can point me to where i can download one or you have it and can shre it with me i'll be immensely grateful.
I've a Samsung S3 I9300 with Android 4.4.4: this method works with my device?
And is there a collection of bootanimation here on XDA?
Thanks
anyone know how to go back to using qmg files?
