I'm glad someone is, I get paid tomorrow I'm trying to decide if I'm going to wait any longer or just go buy a Galaxy S4...
If I knew when Moonshine was coming or had an idea it would make things easier lol

I'd JTAG it before going to an S4. But it depends on if you bought the DNA because you like it a lot, or somehow you got stuck with something you didn't really want.

I have both and i just can't get over how much better the DNA's screen is. I made many screen color adjustments via kernel and the S4's screen just ddoesn't look right compared to the dna, plus there's this coating on the glass that seems to dull he brightness. I remember seeing it on the S3 too. As far as build quality, the S4 is nice but the dna seems premium.
I'm running Carbon rom and custom kernels on both phones. I can only tell the difference between the two by looking at he screen and the locations of the back and menu buttons (they're the opposite on each phone).
If I was faced with a choice today I would get the DNA.

After comparing the two in store I didn't feel that the DNA screen was any better. However I like the AMOLED screens. The s4 seemed snappier but not much. However the storage on the DNA bothers me and I prefer a removable battery.
I'll probably wait another 2 weeks and then decide. I may hold off on the s4 for the Note 3 or the upcoming HTC phablet. I would like a bigger screen. If the HTC One was 5" I would have probably already bought it.

Yeah just saw that!!!! Should tide me over for a while haha.

Sorry to awaken an old thread, I'm still on 1.15.605.4 stock rooted rom, htcdev unlocked. In order to s off and check out some of the sense 5 ROMs do I need to upgrade then use moonshine? Just use face palm from where I am now? Is one better then the other? Do I need to be on new firmware to try new ROMs? Sorry I used to be all over this with my Incredible and Rezound but loved the DNA out of the box and never tweaked.
Thanks in advance.

What does this mean for the DNA scene? Does it increase our chances at finding a post-OTA unlock method, or is it more useful for ROM/custom feature development purposes?

From what I gather it's possible, though not likely there is an exploit for post OTA unlock in the source. It will help development in that 2.04 ROMS such as Viper1.2 will soon have compatible custom kernels whenever the developers of their respective kernels update them.
I suppose there can be other possible benefits but I have not heard anyone mention them.

I guess she is used to stellar battery life, not having all the bloat, being over clocked and fast as all get out on Viper rom.
The area she works gets better signal with old radio's while I get better with new radio's??
No wife tether
Missing a few root only apps, missing data since she can't restore.
Look don't take offense. This phone is great, but when you get used to certain things is hard to go back.

So im coming from a nexus. Its a good phone and all but I figure I'd try HTC for once. I got it for $99 on Amazon. Abby way what's the statue on root or a boot loader unlock. Also what's the difference in the a nexus is vs the dna. Also is there anything I should know or do when I receive my new device. Thanks for the help

The DNA is an awesome phone; however, if your phone comes with the newest update from HTC on it, be aware, there is currently software-based (free) method to unlock bootloader or modify the phone at all. Users with updated phones that were not previously unlocked have had to resort to JTAG service (something like $45 plus shipping) to have the phone S-OFF'ed (Radio S-OFF - Means you can flash whatever you please (even more so with the engineering bootloader flashed)).
If the phone prompts you for an update, DON'T DO IT! If the phone is already updated, you either wait and hope for someone to find a vulnerability, pay for JTAG service, or use the phone stock (still a good phone, but no root).
Good luck!

Root/Bootloader status:
firmware 1.x - fully blown open
firmware 2.x - locked tighter that a dolphin's butthole.
It will probably come with the 2.x software. I would recommend using the JTAG service provided here:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/htc-droid-dna-dlx-jtag-s-off-modification-service/
Difference between a nexus and the dna... A world.
The gnex was made to open from the beginning. Running one fastboot command opened the entire floodgate, plus odin is an awesome tool for samsung devices. HTC devices have more parts that need to be cracked to have the same openess as the nexus. Right now 2.x firmware means you are running stock only (no root or anything). I'm coming from the gnex and was willing to pay for the jtag service because although I love the dev's work on this phone, I don't want to rely on them for everything.
Hope this helps.
Alright now what about things like supercid or HTC dev. Also if we can unlock the boot loader then why is s-off important. Or can we not unlock the boot loader on 2.xx

No HTCdev, no unlock of bootloader of any kind currently.
Oh okay so I read that wrong. So we can't even downgrade to a previous version or that requires root and an unlocked bootloader. Also if my device is on 2.x no root goodness for me huh?

haha no comments on the women stuff i think you understand why hahaha
Like other post, i would say know that you will not have root for a bit and cm 10.1 is not done yet...but will be soon. You can go for JTAG or stick with stock or use nova launcher temporarily. The battery life is pretty decent but nothing crazy 4 hours of screen time-ish on stock. i usually get enough battery for 1 day and a few hours. Oh, fastboot will prevent a full restart of your phone so might want to disable that...and yea just look around settings. there are ways to increase battery and stuff. for example, there is a settings in wifi that allows it to auto turn off and use data unless you start using your phone. I think its a great device even through its a bit big for my taste, and i don't like stock much. Hope you enjoy your phone! I can't wait to get root and cm 10.1 on my phone. ^_^

I don't know what it is with me but I'm honestly tired of using CM and AOSP for awhile. I've been enjoying Viper so that I can still get a breath of fresh air from Sense... even though most don't appreciate Sense. Honestly wish I could put a Sense variant on my N7 too just to change it up.

Same here. I love CM and AOSP/AOKP, but I tire of them pretty quick. I honestly don't understand the HTC Sense hate some people have. If it was that bad then everyone wouldn't be trying to find widgets that looked like the sense widgets on CM/AOSP. Sense is a really nice looking UI and their widgets are second to none.
I'm pretty much decided on sending out my DNA to be JTAG'd. How long can I expect to be without a phone? I think i'll be stuck using my rezound with just google voice.

Supercid will likely come at the sametime s-off comes which defeats the purpose anyway. Cid partition now has the same power-on wp that the security flag partition has always had. Needless to say, the old HTC exploits are closed and we are starting from the ground up.

I remember then certain it needed certain hboots n radio's. For certain roms. especially when it came to aosp. With Samsung and LG all you have to do is unlock the bootloader and have a recovery.

Yeah, I'm very familiar with Samsung. Just read through the guides and do a little googling. This is also my first HTC device. It's not too difficult to figure out.

No it's not. Like I said I'm already rooted, bootloader unlocked and s-off. I had some people recommend supercid so I'm currently looking into that. Idk if anything else Is required for pa 3.99. I'm hoping I have some time this weekend to start on a kernel. Allot of the changes I made to the kernel for the lgog are universal for the s4 snapdragon cpu. I can't wait to see how the m7 reacts to this changes

If you're going to be keeping it stock then that's the latest version.

Thanks for prompt response. I will use stock for 1 or 2 weeks, then I will goback to my flashing spree..

If I were you I'd wait until the 4.3 ota hits. Based on all the near final leaks recently, I'd say it very well could be only 1 or 2 weeks away.
That's what I'm doing anyway, that way ill have updated firmware without needing to s-off, but then again s-off might not be possible for a while on the new hboot.
So maybe don't wait if you want s-off right away haha.
beamed from space.
Glad to see you here, ME. I loved your kernel, and stock based rom, over on the LGOG. Can't wait to see your work on the HTC One!

Verizon HTC One Max finally available

If any devs need files pulled from the device I am buying one (or more) first thing this morning so just post instructions and I will have at it.

I am also going to order one. I've been anxiously waiting the release of this device since I first read about it on Android central. I've been running the VZW Gs4 for a while now and need a change. I'm really really hoping that it will have root bootloader and s-off just like the one (especially since they share the same chipset). I really hope there is developer interest in this device.
I was just at the store checking one out. The build quality feels amazing! And, despite the size, fits and feels just fine in the pocket of my jeans.
I did not walk out with it, but will probably end up talking myself into the purchase within the next couple of hours.

It really is! I was shocked by how well built it felt. Having used Samsung phones and tablets for the past few years I guess I didn't even realize the build differences till I held the One Max.

Has anyone heard any word of a root exploit coming for it at all? I know it's early yet but I got my fingers crossed. Really need root at least to keep this device.
This is a developer looking for someone with the device to test

i said the exact same thing..i compared it next to the Note 3... the note 3 really felt cheap
i checked out the back cover, and the finish FELT and looked FLUSH from every angle. There were some reports of back cover not fitting snug in early production models?
the only thing that bothered me was the internals, all they needed was a SD800, and i would of completely been satisfied plunking down $600 + tax for one
I also got to see a White LG G2. There was a LG Rep that said, there could be a sale similar to last G2 deal, 450$ outright.. so i might just wait for that, and get the HTC M8 whenever that comes out

Yeah. I pinged him this morning because I needed his help to get temp root to pull kernel for beaups to use for bootloader unlock and s-off. Got stuck at work so didn't pick it up until about an hour ago. For now it's charging. Then I'm going to contact him and hopefully take care of business.

It should be quite easy, you just need a custom recovery and then you are rooted. please visit this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498749 and request for verizon support, the dev has been really good, kind enough and been quick to get the recovery for sprint & international models working!

Unfortunately as beaups has described to me it's a chicken/egg thing. They have to have the kernel before they can create *valid* recovery (other device recovery may work) and root but you have to be rooted to pull the kernel.

i see, i did not know that. i also don't see anyways we can backup stock recovery. i seriously wonder how dev's were able to get the initial stock kenel/recovery. i guess that's only via temp root that you are looking for with jcase
Got mine also!

I Got mine yesterday on EDGE
Got back into booloader by removing drivers that installed and installing HTC Sync Manager. Works for now so not removing sync manager itself until I have to.
No go on htcdev unlock. It let me get all the way to putting my device info and then came back with a code 160 MID not allowed message. Verizon likely shut that down early.
Now I have to try to connect with jcase (if available) to temp root...
anyone dump the system yet? and can someone do adb pull /proc/config.gz
Is anyone getting this phone coming from a note 2? Do you think it is an worthy upgrade?
