How do I calibrate the number keypad? I know how to do the qwerty or maybe it's same - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

This is probably a dumb question. My number 4 phone button is suddenly not working. I ran the calibration in HTC sense keypad, but that's the one that has you type a sentence. Is there one to calibrate phone pad?

I don't think that there is a specific process to calibrate the number pad. Does that area of the screen work for other things, like pressing a link?
Also, for future questions, please post them in the Q&A section.

You are now in the Q&A. Here you may receive a better/ more through response :good:

Ok I'll post over there. I think it's the screen itself and not so much the calibration of it. It was that whole section of the screen that was acting funky. When I went to an empty home page and dragged an icon it would force drop it at that point as if I we lifting my finger up. And now this morning it's fine. Maybe knocking it around over night helped

[Q] anyone else notice!!??

has anyone else noticed that when you answer a phone call the screen turns off ...I hate it ...I have to hit the power button to wake the phone up and end the call .. does anyone have a fix for this ? thanks in advance
thats how all phones have been
is this your first smart phone bro?
if u dont cover the sensor it wont shut off
The screen should only turn off when you put it to your face . Once you pull away the phone the screen should wake . Check your settings you shouldn't have to use the power to wake it .

yea I know right lol ....I looked into the settings and haven't seen any controls for that feature
Yea I noticed the same thing. During a call pulled phone away from my face and screen stayed off. I thought something was wrong but if the call is active screen will come back on, if person hangs up and ur not quick to uncover sensor the screen stays off.
do you guys have screen protectors on your phones??? zaggs perhaps??
If anything is "blocking" your sensor, then it assumes that your face is up to the phone. The phone would then only wake up when the call is ended or the power button is pressed.
You must not have ANYTHING covering the sensor
I would say that this is most likely the case
Mine doesnt do that unless I put the phone up to my ear. Normally I just answer the phone and click it to speaker. When I do that the screen stays on....unless my hand/finger happens to be covering the light sensor.
I have Invisible Shield HD. And there's a cutout for the prox. sensor. Have the same problem. Hopefully HTC will fix it on the next firmware update

I'm not so sure about that. My OG Evo has a standard screen protector that "covers" the sensors, and they still work just fine. Maybe those crappy Zagg orange peels will interfere, but I still don't see that being too likely, as they're not really blocking any light.
I have this issue as well and after reading all over for the past two days it appears some units have this issue and some don't. Further complicating the issue is the fact some have screen protectors and some don't. Some have made cutouts on their screen protector and then it works as it should. Very weird.
As soon as I make a call the phone screen goes black while laying on my desk. When the call is over sometimes I can hit the power button to disconnect the call...sometimes I have to hold the power button down 10 seconds to soft reset the phone or I cannot get back to any screen and the call stays connected. Very weird. I got my phone at BB so I am going to stop back and see if they have had any returns and what their thoughts are.

i got my zagg lastnight and it happened
so i reapplied it, not covering the sensor on the top left
and it fixed the issue

Yeah I wish that was my issue....I don't have a screen protector on my phone and it doesn't work as designed.

I bought a Zagg and had the issue. They left a hole for a sensor but I think that's the light sensor with the proximity sensor being just to the left and covered. It's a small red light that turns on when making a call. So I made the hole bigger by making it a rectangle uncovering the proximity sensor. Now my phone goes on and off like it should when putting it to my ear. Maybe that'll help some of you? Though I have read some people having the issue without screen protectors.

Not sure if this will help or not, but in settings/accessibility settings there is an option to end calls using the power button. Might help.
OK, this is a bit OT so I apologize. But I can't figure it out and really dont feel it warrants a new thread. I hope you dont mind me dropping this in here.
Yesterday, at some point, this icon came into my notification bar and i CANNOT, for the life of me figure out what it is.
It looks kinda like a hearing aid or Bluetooth headset icon. But I use neither. I've looked all thru settings trying to figure it out. Checked thru accessibility . Just stumping me, and making me feel REALLY stupid.
Much thanks to anyone who knows.

I experienced the same issue with the screen turning off as soon as I placed a call. I pulled the Zagg HD off and the issue was resolved. I'm going to best buy today to exchange the Zagg for a new one and I will cut a little notch into it to see if it works.
After the screen goes off you have to press the power button but that little red dot next to the proximity sensor stays on unless you flash a bright light on it. I think regardless the proximity sensor is really sensitive and the Zagg HD just makes it that much more finicky.
Being in a dimly lit area makes it worse too.
**Update**
I went to bestbuy and exchanged my Zagg HD for a new one. I got home notched the cutout for the sensor a little more. Installed it and now I don't have any issues with the screen turning off.

screen calibration

Is there a way to "re-calibrate" the screen or change the sensitivity?
I have found that when I need to press a button near the corner of the screen, (like on a friendstream widget to refresh), I usually have to press it several times or use my pinky.
I'm thinking either the "alignment" is off or the sensitivity needs to be tweaked (maybe my fingers are too big)
When I first started typing on the Inc 4G, I noticed that sometimes it seemed like it was missing letters I was typing. As I started using it more, I realized that my hand was barely touching the corner of the screen next to the recent apps button, since I was used to using a small phone, the original Incredible. However, once I realized I was doing that, I stopped doing it. I have to consciously make the decision to stop every time I notice myself doing it. I've only been using it for a couple days, but I'm doing it less now, so hopefully I'll stop completely soon. I don't understand why it thinks the corner of the screen should be touch sensitive, because it's almost a full centimeter away from the recent apps button.

interesting, I'll have to keep an eye on that.
but I'm trying to hit a small button on the top right corner of the screen.
I have the issue I mentioned before when I'm holding the phone in landscape mode with the capacitive buttons on the right, the base of my index finger where it meets my hand barely touches the screen about a centimeter above the recent apps button. I don't use the FriendStream widget, as I don't use social networks at all, but if the button is too small, it may be that your fingers are too big, but more likely you are touching the screen somewhere else. I only figured it out when I took my right hand away from the screen and was still typing with my left and the keys were working much easier for me.
Try taking the hand you're not using to press the button and put it on the bottom of the phone to hold it steady, then, using your other hand, only touch the screen where the refresh button is with your largest finger and see if it works. It may seem like really basic troubleshooting, but sometimes that's the way to go.
Failing that, try to go to Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Advanced settings -> Calibration tool
It only lets you type in portrait mode, which is kinda dumb since most typing is done in landscape mode, at least for me. It would be nice to at least have an option to do it in landscape.
Anyway, I hope one of these solutions helps.

no this isn't true.
you don't have to press hard, you have to press in the correct spot...
this phone's display is tough to get used to.
prime example, trying to exit out of a single app in the stock task manager, is very tough, and always opens the app instead of hitting the x, it's annoying, but it's worth it, IMO
but here is a vid showing that I have zero difficulties going through the set-up.
that and a little teaser of the ROM Nitsuj17 and I are working on

Well, I was having difficulties using it. I don't have fat sausage fingers, and I even tried using my pinky finger and pressing directly on it and everything after the first dot just didn't work unless I pressed very hard on it. Now that I've used it once and calibrated it, it works much easier doing it again. Perhaps it was just that the factory default calibration for my phone is just that off.

Scrolling Contacts

Is there a secret (or setting) to being able to scroll your list of phone contacts with out accidentally selecting a name just by touching the screen the wrong way?
The screen is so sensitive to the slightest touch that it is almost (for me) impossible to find a location on the screen that won't launch an unwanted name.
Sorry I posted this in the wrong forum.
You must have heavy hands, I mean I have big ol' hands and I can scroll all the way up and down numerous times and never accidentally click on anyone maybe try using a flicking motion LOL
From my DROID DNA
practice slowly at first, you want to press your finger down then keep the pressure and move it down the screen. It took me a little practice the first touchscreen i got

L key or the delete key dosent work every time

Has anyone notice the L button doesn't work every time you press it? I called verizon they said it's a known issue. my white n2 worked perfect. Now the grey one has that problem.. Press on the L key real fast and u will see what I mean . it doesn't register every time. I don't have to do it real fast for it not to work on mine.

So this is a wierd situation for me. My old Thunderbolt had this exact same problem, certain keys would not register most of the time, and I'm pretty darn sure L was one of them. When I downloaded this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.batterypoweredgames.mtvistest&hl=en and tried pressing on the screen where my L key generally is, I could see what was going on. Something was wrong with the digitizer or how the software was interpreting the input.
Now this is where I got scared. You are not the first person to talk about this problem with the Note 2, and when I tried it after reading the first post a few weeks ago, I too was having the problem. It was about in the same spot as the L key. And sure enough when I opened up the touch visible app and checked that spot there was something wrong. There was like a dead spot in the shape of a circle in that area. Now I don't know what happened to it, but that was on stock unrooted. Once I unlocked and installed Jelly'Beans' the problem went away and I haven't had it since... knock on wood.
If it's software then whatever, software can be fixed easily. Hardware though.... ugh I do not want to replace this thing.
Hmmm I hope I dont have this problem, that exact thing happened on my thunderbolt also and drove me nuts it just started one day always had to use in landscape thats why I got the note 2...hopefully its just some sorta software issue

I noticed the same thing with my Thunderbolt. If I put the phone in landscape those dead spots worked just fine using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.batterypoweredgames.mtvistest&hl=en to see if the screen was registering. This lead me to believe it was a software issue, and it unfortunately was never resolved.
Thankfully though I am not on the Note 2 and am not experiencing and screen dead spots, yet (knock on wood)

Just out of curiosity...are any of you using the Otterbox Defender? I have the dysfunctional 'L' key, and I think it's because the screen protector built into the case is raised at the edge of the screen. When I take it out of the case, I never get the 'L' key problem. Oh, and also the backspace key as you've noted. LOL I'm just glad I'm not alone.

Double tap to wake

anyone having trouble with turning the screen on? its like 1-5 doesnt work. im deliberate with my tapping. off works no problem. but turning the screen on does not work every time. please let me know if this is just me.
Seems to happen most often after the screen has been sleeping for little time (like over 2 mins).
I have had this issue several times. Sometimes I'll sit there and try it 3-4 times in a row, then it will magically work. I usually try and explain it away, thinking perhaps I just double tapped too quickly in a hurry.

Yess exactly. I keep thinking maybe I messed it up. Maybe a part of my hand was pressed against the side bezel and screen or something. To the point I'll lat it in my flat hand and trouble tap it like a science experiment lol. Thanks for the reply. Anyone else??
Mine occasionally does that but I have one of them Zagg Glass screen protectors on and I think that's all it is. I played with it for a few prior to putting it on and it wasn't like that.

I'd say I agree with this. So is this a problem or do you have to double tap at a certain speed or in the same spot twice?

Generally it comes on if I tap once, wait a beat, and then tap again. It will sometimes come on if I grab the phone and the side of my hand happens to touch the screen twice. And sometimes it will come on if I tap it twice really fast, so there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.
Also make sure u don't have a finger even close to the proximity sensor. That will keep it from coming on. On my g2 if I had my finger even at the top of the phone next to the sensor it would not work.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I've had some issues with it mostly assuming it was a little lag or whatever not a real problem to worry about, but I have noticed that it likes the taps to be close together on screen. So tapping in the same place more or less twice works best. So. Two taps being an inch apart it doesn't like. This may be some of your issues, sloppy tapping not close enough together may cause issues. I'd say it really doesn't like anything more than a half inch apart.
