How to install Clockworkmod on moonshine'd DNA? - HTC Droid DNA

Can I use ROM Manager to do so? If not, how do I do it?
Sent from my (sadley) stock HTC Droid DNA

I've heard success stories about rom manager working with twrp, so I'm sure it'd work fine with cwm as well.

Thank you for the response. Will the fact that I'm s-off'd by moonshine change anything like flashing recoveries?
Sorry for the noob question

I just installed CWM Touch via Rom Manager, worked fine.

if you download a recovery.img file you can boot into fastboot "FASTBOOT USB" then do a "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and it will flash the recovery that you downloaded or use CWM or GOOmanager to have it auto install them

download goomanager go to settings and click install openrecovery script. This install TWRP which is much better and easier to use than CWM

Having a hard time...
Hey guys. I did the moonshine bit successfully, installed ROM Manager, and TWRP recovery. I have a couple of ROMs saved to my phone, and am ready to test drive one.
I follow the steps to get to fastboot, and select recovery, then power button to enter.
After a few seconds, I get the "triage" screen - black background, red triangle with BANG in it, over a phone graphic.
Now what?

You need to load the recovery image through fastboot. Check out the bottom of this doc:

You can use ROM manager for cwm and goo for twrp as long as you're rooted and unlocked, may or may not need s-off for recovery flashing, I don't think so.

So since you have done moonshine, can you confirm that it doesn't clear the data?
Sent from my (sadley) stock HTC Droid DNA

Well, the image files I had saved in my download folder remained. I have experimented with a few ROMs since then, so the other folders I noticed empty (DCIM, ringtones, etc) may be due to the new ROMs.

Also if you shift between 4.1 (sense) and 4.2 they are made in differing areas, so it may look blank in 4.2 because its in a different location and it has nothing in it yet, previous contents are in the old location /data/media.

Please help

My cousin gave me his Thunderbolt.
I was able to operate the device fine. Then I did an OTA update. I wasn't able to complete the update cause I needed more battery. So I re booted and now I'm getting this screen.
When I re booted and hit menu it has an exclamation point symbol with an android on the screen in the back ground with Revolutinary CWM v4.0.1.4.
Now I'm stuck in this screen and can't get out.
If this phone is rooted why did you do an OTA? Turn the phone off and hold the power buton and power and volume down and see if you cant get in to recovery from the boot section. Most likely you might need to flash an RUU

I didn't know it was rooted or was attempted to be rooted. The OTA didn't go through I think because I was getting an error message saying I needed more battery.
I'll try that out.

The only options I'm given when I scroll is under Fastboot is...
Recovery
Factory Reset
Simlock
Hboot USB
Image CRC
Then select recovery and let me know what all options you have. If you can load roms. I would do a wipe and then install a new rom and see if that fixes your issue.
While in fastboot does it say s-off or s-on. If it says s-off you are rooted.

You can find roms in the Development section here at XDA, also at Rootzwiki, and my Rom is linked to my banner in my signature in every post.
There are quite a few options to choose from.
I suggest reading up on some of them and decide what may suit you best.
Assuming this is all very new to you, you may just want a rooted stock rom.

If you like sense rom sky raider is a great stable rom. It sounds like you are new to all this. Santod sense ICS is a good one to. Like said read up on the many different ROMs out there. Many are good ROMs.
Yeah WiFi tether is way better. Just ask how to set it up after you choose your rom. As the settings in that depends on you're rom. Main thing is your phone is fixable and not broken. Just don't do ota any more as its for stock unrooted phones.

[Q] TWRP Restoring problems

the other day i tried restoring a back up via TWRP but it didnt work until i fastboot flashed boot.img...Alright so i updated my TWRP via goomanager app to the latest version (whatever is on there via goomanager) as in the TWRP forum discussions it was stated that previous versions were not working properly wihen restoring. So today i flashed a new ROM (NOS ROM) but that didnt work so i decided what better time than now to try restoring again, no dice didnt work and i had to fastboot flash the boot img for the restore file to take and boot up just fine again...ok peeps what am doing wrong??? again im fairly new at this flashing ROMS scene but i thought witht he TWRP update i would be good to go. Am i missing some settings ticks/options/checks? i saw a check box that said "recovery" i think in the restore or back up process dont remember which process. i tried going onto the TWRP discussion but it is locked down and states that there will no longer be any support for it...should i just switch to CWM?? thanks in advance to whom ever replies

What did you have checked while making the backup? data? recovery? cache? system? and did you rename the back up?
System, data and boot are checked...I didn't mess with the options just hit restore and let it do it's thing...should I change something or check the other 2 boxes (one of them being "recovery" forgot what the other option was)?

That's exactly what I was trying when all this happened...I flashed it via flash gui app like I've been doing but for some reason it didn't work...when I went to unlock screen it would pull up HTC splash screen and just stay stuck there... Let me rephrase that...it boots up, screen comes on silver background from butterfly then I go pull ring to unlock and it pulls up the HTC splash screen once I unlock and will not move from there...so that's when I reset and went back to viper...???

I may have misread but did you wipe everything before loading nos? I saw what was checked for backup but not about wiping. You should wipe everything-system, then cache, then delvik cache-not exactly in that order (make SURE there IS a backup just in case). Load the rom AND flash the correct image file with adb. Also, many roms when FIRST loading up sit a long time before they start up, not sure if nos does this or not-I have been jumpy about the time sitting with a few roms when waiting was all I needed to do. I have had different Viper versions on a few times and moving to another rom was quirky each time I did so, not sure why.
NOS did that to me too. Just wait....it will load into the setup wizard. I think being s-on, which I still am...twrp isn't able to back up and restore your roms boot.img. just a guess but I to failed to restore a backup when an install went awry. Makes sense to be being that you can't install a kernel from recovery either.

I looked at the install instructions for nos, if you are s-on you need to do one extra step. You have to extract the rom into a folder somewhere to get the image file, copy the image file from it. Flash that image file using adb on your pc and THEN install the rom from your phone with goomanager. Without the image file loaded, I don't think it would work. If you are s-off this step is not needed.

I believe it will, if it had the image from the get go. I believe that the back up has everything it needs. At least my back ups have never needed an image file. I've flashed super charged hatka 320 (used that for a couple weeks) then switched over to viper...both using Flash GUI I tried using NOS but yes no dice loaded up but when I pull the unlock ring for whatever reason the splash screen comes up and it won't budge from there....and as for my original question haha TWRP did not work for me when restoring it tripped out like if it was missing the boot image (done that before so I'm familiar with that behavior haha)

[S-Off] Recovery Flashable Recovery Installer

Flash any Recovery .img File From Recovery
Snuzzo has asked me to post this recovery flashing tool. It will let you insert any recovery that you use (must me the .img file) into the zip with 7 zip and then have a flashable recovery installer.
This eliminates the need to fastboot flash recovery and makes changing back and fourth between them really easy.
THIS IS DEVICE SPECIFIC, ONLY USE ON DNA
NOTE: Make sure to name the file recovery.img
Instructions:
1.) Place the recovery.img of your choice into the folder named "recovery" (Hint: It Says "put.recovery.img.here" in the folder where it goes)
2.) Place the zip onto your sdcard
3.) Boot to recovery and flash the zip file
4.) Device will reboot, reboot manually if using TWRP and auto reboot doesn't work
This is snuzzos work not my own, I'm only posting it for him.

Nice work, but man I hate to see scripts written with dd of= hardcoded to an emmc partition. And to top it off there no assert to check device model.
So...if someone runs this on the wrong device...it will permabrick them.

Most definitely for a rooted Droid DNA with a custom recovery
Thanks for this guys - I have included both of the latest recoveries already in the zips for the lazy people
Here is a flashable zip I created with Zarboz Unofficial TWRP 2.5 Beastmode 5.1 Recovery
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22897186102575215
MD5: 352b654194cc2b442f7b9f995e99ea90
Flashed and when in recorery it still indicates 2.4.4 at the top of the screen, should it be 2.5.0?
Hello, anybody home?
Yeah I need to make a zip with the update zarboz did that changes the version number. I'll do it shortly.

Possible softbrick

I had some issues with various roms for unknown reasons, so I kept trying out new roms. Well the problem persisted, and as I was attempting to flash a new Rom, recovery just kind of failed. Whenever I attempt to enter recovery, a titled triangle with and exclamation mark and a droid figure pop up and I have to do a battery wipe. My phone still starts and runs, but I'm currently stuck on a problematic rom with no way of getting to recovery. I'm fairly new to all of this so I have no idea what's happening and I'm ultimately scared of attempting anything and messing up more. So any and all suggestions are beyond welcome.

My phone still starts and runs, but I'm currently stuck on a problematic rom with no way of getting to recovery. I'm fairly new to all of this so I have no idea what's happening and I'm ultimately scared of attempting anything and messing up more. So any and all suggestions are beyond welcome.

Complication in my situation : I don't have a computer. I can get to one with the needed programs on it, but are you sure this will fix it?

So just install cwm multiple times..? Like install it, turn phone on, then install again if problem persists or isn't fixed immediately?
You're looking for some magical recipe that will 100% surely fix your phone. There isn't one. You will just have to play and be creative. You can report back here for more advice if needed.

Like what ravilov mentioned, its more of a trial and error process and not a 100% quick fix. Not having a computer will make things much more difficult.
I'm not looking for a magic easy route, (though it'd be nice if there was one), I'm just asking for literally any advice on the situation.
Use the android sdk 'fastboot' command to push recovery to the device via USB. This should solve your issue with a borked recovery partition.

Should I do Clockwork Mod Touch, or just cwm recovery?

No need for touch. If you ever damage your screen, touch recovery will make it impossible to use. Once you've flashed it with rom manager, you can download th3bill's recovery for Atrix and install over the top of it.

Switch from TWRP to CWM

Hello,
Can anyone help me figure out how to recover in CWM instead of TWRP. I like TWRP the problem I'm having is I'm not getting a download file in recovery right now. If it's something easy that I'm missing then I'll stay with it. The picture shows all that I get when I'm in recovery. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.

The same way you flashed TWRP via fastboot, just download COM and put it in your fastboot folder and do the same process.

Do you know why it's bot showing a download folder though? I'm sure it's something I'm over looking.

I tried to use the toolkit file but when I click on "flash Clockworkmod" it gives me two pop ups. I close the first one like it says and wait on the second pop up to do something but all it says it "waiting on device"

Not a pro a this by any means; so if wrong, please correct me. I won't get butthurt.
I recently got a htc one of Craigslist that was pre-rooted and having twrp installed. Being used to cwm and wanting it back on, I simply installed rom manager from play store and was able to flash cwm straight from there with no problems. Hope you got it done either way

Seriously takes less than two minutes.
Download whatever recovery you want.
Boot into boot loader and select fastboot.
Connect to pc
Put recovery IMG inside the folder where fastboot.exe is
Type
Fastboot flash recovery recovereyfilename.IMG
DONE
HTC One - Unlocked, ARHD 12, Bulletproof Kernel, Several mods.
Nexus 7 - Cyanogenmod
Tab 2 7 - Cyanogenmod
Think the issue you were initially having was finding the emulated sdcard storage. Need to look in the data/media/ directory to find your "sdcard" storage.

Yep..if you dirty flashed from a rom that was a 4.1.2 base to a 4.2, the file structure is different
