[KERNEL][GB]oxydo-zcf-03[2.6.29.6][11TH JUNE, 2013] - XPERIA X8 Android Development

Okay. Some of you may know from the ZCF threads that I had been working on a GB kernel for the ROM. So here it is. This is a collaboration between the ZCF ROM and my team.
If you're wondering why a new GB kernel with features from 2.6.32.6, here's my answer:
2.6.32.6 isn't perfect yet on GB. Although nAa has said he's working on a fully working version, I feel it's better to have a taste of what it would be like to have 2.6.32.6 on GB. Plus his kernel would be directed mostly towards JB users, but mine is only for GB (although it can be adapted for JB). Plus I ran into some problems with my last thread here, regarding placement of the thread. This does not fit in either of the General, Q/A and Troubleshooting or the Themes and Apps section. This is not in the Original Android Development section because this is not really original if you don't consider backporting or porting original. So this is in the Android Development section.
Features:
- nAa-GB kernel built with Codesourcery toolchain (going back to the roots).
- AHB overclocking backported from 2.6.32.6 (may drain battery, but it will definitely be worth it; ultra-smooth performance and I am not kidding about this).
- SLQB.
- SmartassH3 and Deadline included and set as default because they provide best performance despite stupid benchmark scores.
- WiFi modules from nAa-JB 2.6.29.6. Needed them as a solution, because the GB modules weren't building.
- FPS uncap (hardware vSync is turned off; software vSync is still enabled though).
- Synaptics DT/NoDT switch to enable/disable DT on synaptics panels.
- Frandom built-in to ease random generation yet using less of the kernel's entropy pool.
- VDD interface for undervolting.
Not working as of now (11-6-13):
- You tell me.
Installation:
1) If you're coming from a JB kernel or 2.6.32.6 kernel
- Perform a Nandroid backup. And if you're going to restore to JB, make sure to format /system, /data and /cache again before restoring.
- First format /system, /data and /cache from CWM recovery.
- Flash the kernel in Flashtool as you would normally.
2) If you're coming from a GB kernel
- Perform a Nandroid backup in CWM
- Flash the kernel in Flashtool as you would normally.

Bug-hunting and fixing
1. 806MHz is repeated in the frequency list. This is not really a bug at all, just a slight glitch. The first and second frequency differ in some clock rates. I recommend the second one although both will work.
2. WiFi doesn't work on some ROMs because they use a different modules path. Easy fix is to copy the modules over to these directories and insmod them. Or for a permanent fix, help me create a list of ROMs that have such paths and their respective paths.
SDE - /system/modules
All ROMs based on SDE - /system/modules
I need something all these ROMs have in common that cannot be found on any other ROM. That will be a check for module-copying at boot. Need your help, guys.
3. Doesn't work on @tiestobunio's ROMs. I haven't tested any of his/her ROMs. And someone mentioned it didn't work for him. I honestly don't see why. Haven't tweaked anything in the ramdisk that may possibly cause this.
Changelog:
9-6-13
- Initial release
- AHB OC from 2.6.32.6
- SLQB slab allocator used instead of SLAB
- FPS-Uncap (hw vSync = OFF)
- Several other minor changes.
10-6-13
- Added the Synaptics DT/NoDT switch
- Frandom built-in.
- Undervolt module added. This fixes undervolting for now. But I'd still like to have the VDD interface. Apparently that didn't work out. But read on.
11-6-13
- Fixed the VDD interface. Tick Undervolting and use this interface.
- Removed Undervolting module because VDD interface is functional now.
Wishlist
- Integrate TWRP.
- Include BFS scheduler.
- You tell me!

And Finally perfect kernel. Rock on !!!

I have 2 questions..
1. Only for zcf or can be used on other gb roms too?
2. TWRP just like oxydo JB or CWM?
thanks.
Sent from my E15i using Tapatalk 2

Haven't included TWRP yet. Last time I tried it broke sdcard But I plan to include TWRP soon.
This should be usable with all GB ROMs. After all, a GB ramdisk has been used. So no worries.

nice kernel you got there meow and pisculshi

will this kernel be available also for x10 mini pro?

Thanks @feherneoh
Major derp there! We all need a "correct-it" guy some times.
@MassStarvation @feherneoh @Gogeta
The VDD level interface is supposed to be similar to nAa's .32. Can you guys check and see if it works, please?

@isko95
Not yet is what I can say for now. Simply because I don't have the device. And testing over the internet can be quite a pain. But I'll try my best.

if you share a link in the x10 mini pro, i think there will be a lot of testers, since it is a new kernel...

@Sgt.meow, I'll test it right after I arrive at home, I'm at the city now shopping some stuffs

@isko95
I'll keep that in mind. But last time I tried doing it for X10 mini/mini pro, the testing ended up being crap! Mostly because of slow uploads and connection breakdowns.

Okay. VDD levels needs some work. It doesn't work for now.

everythings working fine, thanks sgt. meow
but kernel is unstable i guess.
it did hang my phone twice.i had to remove battery. i am using primeHD. no overclocking.

@mayurcools
Haven't had any such thing on my phone. Running it OC'ed to 787MHz for about 3-4 hours. Perhaps if it reboots again (I hope it doesn't) you can send me the last_kmsg and the dmesg.

did you performed the steps in the OP? if so, maybe the kernel is really unstable, please wait further because this kernel is new and fresh and expect many bugs from it and sgt.meow is doing what he can to provide us the kernel we want :good:

However I am NOT responsible if you damage your phone! please use it at your own risk!
How to Use it:
make backup of your original wlan modules
Put the downloaded wlan module (xxxxx_wlan_v3.zip) in your sdcard
Power off the phone
Connect the phone to the PC while pressing up volume to enter fastboot mode (the led is turning blue)
Use Flashtool to flash the boot.img or using fastboot --> fastboot flash boot boot.img or if it doesn't do anything fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
Reboot the device
Press continuously the volume down button to get in the recovery
Choose install zip from sdcard; install xxxxx_wlan_v3.zip
In CWM go to advance menu and do a dalvik cache wipe... (fist boot will take a minutes to 3 minutes longer because it will create a new dalvik cache)
Reboot the phone
Zram is enabled in default setting., to disable it delete this file --> /system/etc/init.d/00zraminstall
to enable it again delete this file --> /system/zraminstall (v3) or /system/zraminstall2 (v4)

Works great on my Xperia Mini!
As the above post, do not locate the files zram.
One thing I noticed is that using the kernel KRsH Rage or I get the warning for the latest update FW62 (I am in FW62), and using your do not have this problem, for this would be the last version?
Thank you!

Creates RAM based block devices: /dev/zramX (X = 0, 1, ...). Pages written to these disks are compressed and stored in memory itself. These disks allow very fast I/O and compression provides good amounts of memory savings.

This kernel definitely looks promising.
Just flashed it and it is working good so far without any glitches.
Will give a feedback after I see how the battery life is doing.
Thanks for your contribution in the Xperia Lineup.
Best regards
Btw I am using a Xperia Mini Pro
Flashed my mini this moment,
no problems so far
keep up the good work
Flashed it and works great!
battery life is good i think. 2 hours in stand by and 1% drop.
5 hours display and wifi on and 30% yet remaining
but i have some problem with VPN which every time i try to connect via L2TP if display goes off, the phone will reset. but if i force screen been on (toching) it won't and connects successfully. don't know it's Kernel problem or not. but last kernel i used (KRsH) didn't have this problem.
Thanks in advance
I downloaded your kernel sources, /sbin/installzram.sh script just doesn't exist in ramdisk.

It could be a kernel problem, there is a some compiling warning using gcc 4.6.3 one of them is a tunneling protocol, I've patched it so it doesn't gives warning (not as much as before) I'll going to take another look than at the script

yeah, but i don't mean it.
when wifi signal is weak and i want to connect VPN using L2TP phone resets. without VPN in any signal strenght it's really good though.
I check it on Xperia Active - works faster than stock kernel.
But hangs from time to time when booting (50%/50%) on "SONY ERICSSON" appears.
May be it is because of new CPU frequency driver.
UPD: After few minutes of hour (don't know) the magnetic and orientation sensors are goes off until next reboot. It happend twice today.

3.Boot the ROM and make customizations. Don’t forget to reflash SiyahKernel if the ROM flashes another kernel.
4.Use CWM Touch Recovery to clone your rom as secondary rom.
5.Restore nandroid backup
6.To boot from the secondary ROM, either press the HOME key or the VOLUME DOWN key when prompted.
Some notes about dualbooting:
■If you do not make any cloning you won’t be prompted to boot the second ROM.
■you may need to reflash this kernel after a nandroid restore if your nandroid backup is created with another kernel.
■you won’t be able to use mass storage mode for /sdcard in second rom because we have our data and cache partitions on /sdcard. only external sdcard will be mounted if you are using mass_storage mode. mtp should work fine for sdcard.
■once again, you won’t be able to flash any CWM flashable zip to second ROM.
More good information on dual-boot

That is what it is designed to do. It works with my MIUI from miuiandroid and Criskelo. That is all I have tested so far
Just installed on AOKP, everything seems to be working as usual....... with OC/UC/UV options
I'll continue to test throughout the day to make sure there aren't any ill effects, but it looks like this is gonna be awesome!

Works great on UCPLC5!
So the microphones are correct for stock AT&T ROM it appears? Or are they reversed like in the Entropy512 kernel? Sorry I can't make a call to see for myself for some time
Seems to be running just fine on cm9 nightlie 4/09.

Got you up in the OP. Give it a good run thru sence this is a fairly new kernel as it just came out of RC.
I am up for risks!
Touch recovery is rather nice, never used it till now.
Just installed it with AOKP.
Running really nicely so far, and it's actually greatly improved my scrolling, which was kind of so-so before.

[ROM] ICZaraki | V01 | CM9 | nAa-ics-04 | 24-9-2012

Many people have pestered me to do something other than Gingerbread. So here it is . Like GingerZaraki, ICZaraki is my own ROM built from clean CM9 sources plus nAa's MiniCM9 sources to make it more compatible with our tiny X8's. I'm still trying to get used to ICS/CM9 compared to GB/CM7 so please be patient . As always, the goal of this ROM is to have an extremely lightweight, fully functional, performance driven ROM running the latest CM9 sources with some special features . I know many of you will be thinking why ICS over JB, right ? Well JB is still a train wreck to be used as a daily IMO plus ICS still has a lot of hidden potential

Requirements :
1. An X8 (LOL)
2. Unlocked Bootloader
3. nAa-ics-04 kernel
4. Baseband xxxxx015
5. Basic knowledge in how to save yourself from any problems that may occur
DOWNLOAD ICZARAKI V01
Please DO NOT MIRROR ! PM me if you want a Mirror and I will make one !
Instructions :
1. Download the ROM
2. Place in in your SD Card
3. Flash nAa-04-ics
4. Reboot into CWM, full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats
5. Flash the ROM
6. Reboot and enjoy
NOTE :
1. This ROM will only work with nAa's ICS kernel. Do not pester me if you decide to pull some smartass stunt and use another kernel.
2. You do not need to flash any Google Apps. It's already included in the ROM.
3. During an update, there's no need to full wipe. Each update will preserve your data.
Battery Drain : So far, I have not experianced any battery drain and I usually get 1 day + of battery life with really heavy use. If you are having battery drain, try this
Charge your phone up to 100%
Go to CWM Recovery with the charger still plugged in and wipe battery stats and dalvik cahce
Reboot and you will notice the 100% battery has dropped to about 96%. Let it charge till 100% again
When it displays 'Charged', pull out the charger and lave the phone alone for about 5 minutes.
Use the phone like normal and make sure you drain it to 0% before charging in the future (let the phone die out by itself when it's 0%)
Charge it to 100% again and repeat step 4 again.
Hopefully that would have fixed your battery drain.
NOTE : It is advised to follow those steps especially if you're coming from another ROM
Sources :
I'll upload the sources when I feel development for this ROM has reached it's end (or nearing it's end). Then you guys can build your own ROMS from my sources

Notes and Notices :
1.You are not allowed to soft-mod this ROM. Why ? Read this. Since I personally optimized parts of the ROM, I know each and every component of it, which means I'll know if someone has illegally based their ROM on mine. Already caught a few.
2. No, we will not give permits to use this ROM as a base ROM for Ligux, Lewa, MIUI, Zolox or whatever port you want to do.
3. Report any bugs you face, we'll do our best to fix it.
4. Suggest what you would like to see in future updates. We will discuss to see if it's worth adding. Please note that we're not obliged to add mods and fixes just because you want them.
5. If you don't like this ROM, please save your energy and time by looking through the other ROMS the X8 forum has to offer instead of spamming this thread.
6. If you have any questions regarding the ROM or anything at all, please feel free to PM me don't worry, I won't bite
7. I'm still getting used to ICS from GB. So please be patient especially when it comes to bug fixing and new features.
8. Please respect all the members of TeamZaraki as you would respect me. They are just as important. Any evidence of disrespect towards any of them will be reported.
9. STOP PM-ING ME ON HOW TO BUILD A DAMNED ROM ! Eagleeyetom has made a guide. Follow it. I'm not tech support.

Tips for Better/Faster Performance
1. Overclock, as always my values, which I think should be ok for most is Min CPU = 245mhz, Max CPU = 729mhz/748mhz
2. Enable zRam (either 18% or 26%).
3. Enable KSM.
4. Disable CPU Rendering (may decrease Antutu Scores and bla bla bla)
5. Delete system apps that you don't use or think you could substitute with something better from the Play Store
6. Don't bloat your system with useless apps.
7. Create and use a Swap Partition if you have a fast SD Card (IMO, class 6 and above)
8. Use any tweaks, mods, apps that you think may help. P.S. If something goes wrong or some bug is created via these tweaks and etc, please don't report them here.
9. Use This MOD by CnC ROCK. It should provide some free memory for those of you obsessed with free momory on ICS ROMS
Note : These are my and others personal recommendations for a better experience on ICZaraki. The fun part about Android is you can conduct multiple trial and errors to venture out and discover a totally new performance tweak. That's why I urge many to try and report if they make a breakthrough. I'll gladly add it to this post. However, they must be proven to work (at least 2-3 people who agree they work) and they mustn't f*ck up the ROM
And again

Well, I guess that's all for now. Seriously tired out of my wits screenshots will have to wait. Don't think it'll matter. As you know, i try and keep my work as "stock looking" as possible so if you've seen an ICS/CM9 ROM before, you won't be missing out.

(ie, 6.1.1.B.1.10 or 6.1.1.B.1.54 ) Depending on the base firmware, you might encounter bugs as such and not directly related to the rom

Mods will work fine but due to the large no. of tweaks I added, some Performance scripts might clash with them, reducing performance or even causing system instability.. So I suggest asking me first if a script might clash before installing it
Installation Instructions
1. (Skip if you have Stock ICS with NO Mods installed). Users with stock ICS having any mods installed or running a Custom Rom, please flash Stock FTF first.
2. Root & install CWM.
3. Install ROM via CWM
4. Wipe Cache
5. If you have an unlocked bootloader AND wish to use a Custom Kernel (which has governors), flash CustomKernelSupport.zip as well through CWM
Addons Package
The Addons Package contains the following mods which I recommend you do install. However, I want this ROM to be fast and simple, while allowing customization options for the end-user. For this reason, I have included these mods as an Additional zip which is an optional Install.
Just flash via CWM and Reboot! You can flash directly after installing the rom or later after booting it up

Hints For Better Performance/Battery
There isnt much to post here since I already included most of them in the rom itself But here goes!
1) Go to Settings>Development Options and Change Animation and Transition Speed to 0.5x
2) Download NoFrills CPU Control and change Governor to Lulzactiveq and Scheduler to SIO. Tick the 'Set On Boot' Option
Hi! It's really nice to see more developers supporting our device!
I have not experienced any problem except for one random reboot today morning, could be unrelated... anyway will report if anything significant comes up...
I did Antutu benchmark with lulzactiveq + sio configuration, got 2821 score.
The ROM is overall smooth and light :highfive:
Glad you like it mate
And dude, 2821 ? Do you mean Quadrant score ? Antutu should be 7k something
Ps : Quadrant scores wont work correctly because some edits interfere with Quadrant's tests so the score wont be accurate..

Well it was Antutu score but I think my phone must have been sleepy (see screenshot) !! Because my scores now are :-
6962 - performance+vr
7128 - ondemandAX+cfq
7053 - lulzactiveq+sio
I would have expected performance governor to be higher, but I have a feeling the governors I set on SetCPU are changing after I exit the app... Also, these scores are on ROM without addons...
Regarding today's usage, I had 1 hour of voice calls, 2 hours of screen time, 1 hour use of wifi (mostly reddit), 15-20 min of data use (mostly email). By the end of the day I had around 50% battery remaining.
But I faced problems in the morning with one random reboot and quite a few freezes when waking phone from deep sleep. I changed the governer+io scheduler from lulzactiveq+sio to ondemandAX+cfq and all problems ceased :good: (see screenshot on battery time, the region before 80% was lost due to reboots) I think the problem is with lulzactiveq governor delaying the scaling up of frequency from deep sleep or not switching on the second cpu on time...
To be fair, The governors were originally built for Xperia U so it might be an issue with that. Other users reported it worked with P so I added them ;P I guess i should have had them benchmarked first lol
Just compared it with stock Antutu scores and a few from Sliding Kernel OC'd and gotta say the score is quite awesome if I say so myself

Hi!
Yesterday I experienced a lot of Xperia Home app random crashes. Has anyone else got that?
Also, I went to bed with 54% battery remaining, usually there is a drop of 2 or 3 percentages, but when I woke up today the phone was dead!!
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
Thats a sudden spike in battery and FCs also ? Did you install any new mod or try another governor ? That might be the issue
Using it since the release date with Sliding Kernel v6 final without any issues, not a fan of benchmark tools, but battery life and speed are perfect for me.

Actually no, I haven't added anything else, not even a new app! From the time we spoke last till yesterday I did not have any FC or crashes... Since yesterday morning Xperia Home has been acting up and sapping battery... Anyway, I'll try the new launcher tonight and see how it goes

Jesus... Stop jumping from thread to thread to get information about every ROM. When it will be ready you will know that(subscribe thread). You're looking like a spammer. You start spamming in CM9 thread and bam! Few minutes you are in other thread. Moderator should interest you, and this what are you doing in every thread. One simply rule : Don't ask ETA! It comes when it will be ready. And Second simply rule: Just stop posting messages like this: "Finally!", "Great work" etc. Thanks for attention.

PD: Sorry my bad english...
Hi TeamMex,
How come your github is well ... so obfuscated? I fail to see what you kernel contributes in there.
Could you show me e.g. the 'boost performance' fixes or the 'If u retire SD Rom not reboot' ones?
Thanks.

I'm uploading the sources since I have a bad connection is slow in climb is why even not complete the climb.
And that is why you can not find it as of the boost.
to boos I use
information from seeder.
There is a (theoretical) security risk, in that seeding /dev/random with /dev/urandom decreases the quality of the random data
check..
and adding some parts in ramdisk scripts.
if u like I send to u these scripts
Sorry my bad english, and sorry if my explanation is not very well understood.
@TeamMex,
Don't you even think it's a bad idea to incorporate something like seeder?
It is much easier for a user to install seeder, and if it isn't good, uninstall it.
What switches do we send the kernel to control it?
All these "kernels" now here are basically just the same with edited ramdisks.. What is the point?

first this not seeder really, are some function similar
and
What's the point of yours? It's obvious that all kernels are similar because they are based on the kernel sources Eclair .....
cheers...
PD: first read this kernel are for XPerience project...
@TeamMex
Do you have a plan to add Off-line charging in kernel ? Because I'm one who charges the battery when turning off the phone.
By the way I'm using XPERIENCE™ SEMC Debrand Engine MOD V3.1 running on this new kernel. Everything works fine.
Thanks
